Harriet my midwife is MILITANT about this and she says crossing your legs can cause/exacerbate varicose veins which was enough to put me off. Really hard to break the habit through! I'm basically only really comfy lying sideways with a pillow under my bump but this is sadly not compatible with office work 😂

MissYeti · 09/01/2018 14:41

So midwife said hes head down which means he's doing the acrobat thing 😂 I was amused to say the least!
She also forgot as soon as we discussed when I was free to do my blood test what day she told me to get it done on (22nd, thought it was 29th) so didn't want my next midwife appointment to be before my blood test. Took me ages to convince her we agreed the 22nd. I have uni the following week and I cant afford any more time off 😌

harrietm87 · 09/01/2018 17:18

See missyeti - little ones are amazingly flexible!

My midwife phoned with my blood results today - excellent iron and glucose apparently, and my thyroid is also at the right level so good news all round.

I've really been struggling not to cross my legs now!!!

idontknowhowtofeelaboutthis · 09/01/2018 17:35

If you have a child already..

What point do you time the length of labour?

My labour with my first was just over 5hr. My waters broke on their own so I timed it from then.

My labour with my second was 36hr. I've timed that from when I started feeling contractions. I was 4cm for ages. It wasn't until they broke my waters that I progressed to 4cm-10cm, in 80 minutes!

So would you go from contractions starting or waters breaking?

PinkAvocado · 09/01/2018 20:45

It doesn’t go from waters breaking as some people’s can break early. I think they counted mine from contractions. Or maybe dilating. Actually no idea!

MrsDishavingaB · 09/01/2018 22:52

It's counted from when you enter established labour which is when you are around 4cms dilated. The second stage of labour doesn't start until you are fully dilated.

So your labours probably weren't as long as you think they were 🙂

TrigsToo · 10/01/2018 08:40

Urgh, woke up feeling terrible. Currently sat at work hoping it's just a cold and not this ridiculous flu that's been going around.

boatrace30 · 10/01/2018 08:43

For everyone worried about baby position it is rarely fixed until 36/37 weeks.
And the typical breech position is bum down feet and head up. Baby literally folded in half. My daughter would automatically put her feet by her head for weeks after she was born.
So you actually get kicks high with a breech baby! My kicks are all lower this time so I'm inclined to think it's in the right position! Though last baby was in right position at 28 weeks and had turned by 32 weeks and never went back!

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 10/01/2018 09:22

Hope you feel better trigs!

I’ve came in to work today with someone quite happy telling everyone that they have been digisnosed with Aussie flu!!!
Why the hell are you in work there is 4 pregnant ladies on my floor and I’m right behind this woman

Hey guys, since I'm back home and feeling sorry for myself, I thought I'd do something good and look into antenatal classes (which I hadn't done so far and reading through this thread realised that I might not be able to get on one!).

I guess there's not many pregnant people in MK, because it look like there are spots on both the Daisy and NCT classes. Any ideas which is the best one to go to?Daisy one currently appealing because of the cost and because it's on better days for us, but then I wonder why it's less than half the price of the NCT and think you probably get less from it.

MrsDishavingaB · 10/01/2018 16:39

@TrigsToo I hadn't thought of Daisy classes, just checked mine and there's spaces left woop!

Apparently a lot of people that go absolutely love it because it's a combined class - movement, education and hypnobirthing techniques. However they are mums only so dads aren't allowed to come. That's the only downside in my opinion.

Other than the fact my local NCT classes are fully booked I think even if they weren't they'd be too expensive for me.

Either way everyone that does classes say these are both FAR better than the NHS ones on offer.

Also side note, @Whymustyoubringinthebirds how inconsiderate of the person with the flu!! It's so contagious how rude of them to think it's ok to return to work 😱😱

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 10/01/2018 17:06

@MrsD my manager got a pretty moany email from me!

I’m doing daisy birthing - more beneficial for me I think - and while its only been the first week we have covered things to help during pregnancy also which has been good and while my DH can’t attend I will give him a run down of what we done and how he can help

Will do the NHS ones with DH (so he has some knowledge) if I make it that far as I couldn’t get space until 28th March and would end 2 days before my due date

Officially on the less-than-10-weeks countdown til mat leave... 9 weeks and 6 days! 🎉

Birds completely ridiculous that someone would come in with flu! My DP's boss has been known to come in with novovirus before to show everyone how great he is for not taking time off sick 😐😐

MommaLamb · 11/01/2018 10:08

Hello ladies, I'm new here and would love to join your convo. Due April 18 and finally feeling like this is actually happening! Grin
Expecting 1st baby and all going well so far - passed the GTT this week though a bit worried about low lying placenta seen at 22 week scan...fingers crossed it all fixes itself! Otherwise DH and I have started baby shopping and getting super excited!

What have others prioritised buying? We have started on buggy, crib and clothes! Smile
Has anyone been to any antenatal classes yet - I am booked on the hospital one as well as the NCT Signature classes...

FairfaxAikman · 11/01/2018 10:15

Hi @MommaLamb, were due date buddies.

First big thing we bought was the pram, then cot. We are lucky and have been loaned loads, particularly from DHs brother and his wife.

idontknowhowtofeelaboutthis · 11/01/2018 10:28

I sent DH a video just now of how baby is kicking, as it's strong and uncomfortable. It feels like he is flicking or kicking my ribs!

His response was "Jesus, is he trying to claw his way out"

This baby has been a total pain in the bum so far! I'm nearly 28 weeks now! I'm on antisickness tablets, but was still sick yesterday.

This is going to be the final baby for us.. I suppose he wants to make this pregnancy as memorable as possible!

Aspenn17 · 11/01/2018 11:18

Hi MommaLamb! I'm due the day before you! We've booked NCT Signature and a local hypnobirthing class but they don't start until end of Feb/early March.

We've got the pram and cot and a few other bits. Going to get the car seat and isofix soon I think. I saw that Tesco has a 'Baby Event' on for the next few days online.

Bit of a random rant/update- Our tiny flat is still on the market, feeling very stressed about the whole thing, have told the Estate Agents to call DH not me, I need to try and stop thinking about it. I wanted to be in our lovely new house by the time she is here but 14 weeks to go and still no sale on our flat it's looking very unlikely 🙁 Sorted my Mat leave, working until 37 weeks, but can work from home for a week or two before that if I need. Got a growth scan on Tuesday so looking forward to that! Hope everyone is doing ok xx

LivLemler · 11/01/2018 11:42

Morning all. I'm home sick with a stomach bug and feeling very sorry for myself. After nothing worse than mild nausea in the first trimester, I puked in a restaurant bathroom and on the street last night. Good times. Although I'm feeling a bit brighter today - it came on so quick I thought it might be the flu so I'm very happy not to be feeling that way today.

We've ordered the pram and car seat, and have the cot and other furniture. Also got a bouncer, monitor and a few random bits in the sales. Not bad timing to be expecting!

Jeds55 · 11/01/2018 12:12

Welcome Mommalamb we haven't bought anything big yet - going to start with the pram/travel system this weekend. Find it so confusing- so much to learn!
Started my NCT classes last week, enjoying them so far - lots of emphasis on group work so getting to know the other couples. Useful info on birth so far but teacher does seem to lean towards the natural birth route but then horses for courses eh. Learned about the injection you can have to help placenta come out and about the benefits of not having the cord cut straight away (allowing baby to get the last bits of blood from the cord) all useful info as I don't have a clue!

Jeds55 · 11/01/2018 12:13

Hope you continue to feel better through the day Liv glad it's not flu

TrigsToo · 11/01/2018 18:06

Welcome @MommaLamb! Aside from two little onesies (we were at Harry Potter Studios and they were too cute to pass up), we haven't bought anything yet. We've been gifted some more clothes and a few bits and bobs, but I don't think we'll start getting the bigger bits for a few weeks yet.

In other news, had 25 week midwife check this morning. Now officially have PGP and a physio referral. Eddie was pretty naughty during the heartbeat check - kept trying to wriggle away from the machine or fight against it. Midwife called him 'feisty'. Think I might have my hands full come April!

harrietm87 · 12/01/2018 00:02

trigs my baby did the same during heartbeat check! Maybe they can feel the Doppler somehow and don't like it?

I've bought pram and bouncer and PILs have bought a bedside cot for us and that's it so far. Waiting a few weeks before buying anything else as still mid building project!

Thelostsock · 12/01/2018 10:25

Mine is the opposite, sits completely quietly for the midwife and then the second we're out the door I've got a rave going on in my tummy! The midwife asked if I recognised the babies routine yet for monitoring reasons etc and I said there isn't really one as baby just doesn't stop!

Oh and the 16 week blood tests that I ended up having at 28 weeks were just iron levels and babies blood type as I'm rhesus negative.

I've got a physio appointment next week for my SPD, so hopeful that they can advise me on something to help the pain and maybe even get me walking around again

LittleEngland · 12/01/2018 12:40

Hello All, I am new to the chat and just want to comment on the baby position. Had my 25 weeks midwife appointment yesterday, our little man is in oblique position. The midwife said the baby could be in all kind of positions at this stage and nothing to worry about (position wise) until the last few weeks.

The little one is so active and constantly moving, especially when we are watching TV after dinner. Few times he waked me up in the middle of night with some serious kicks. Anyhow, at least I know he is active and OK, fingers crossed he stays this way and be a healthy baby.

Good luck to all the mum-to-be xx

boatrace30 · 12/01/2018 12:56

Welcome @LittleEngland . Mine was transverse at 24 weeks and has now moved to breech (28weeks) you're right about looking a of time to move. My friends baby was breech right up to 36weeks then moved.

As my first baby remains stubbornly breech though I won't be surprised if this one follows suit
