I’ve started to gather bits together for my hospital bag - only have maternity pads really so far - I also got 2 nighties but I will use them between now and birth so I’ll just keep them handy to throw in

I hope to have everything sorted over the next 6 weeks for my bag as I’ll feel better knowing it’s done and then I can move on to batch cooking some dinners for the freezer

I’m starting my daisy birthing classes next week so I am looking forward to meeting some mummy friends hopefully!

As an alternative to Lanisoh can I recommend Moo Goo Mudder Udder balm. It doesn't need wiped off, has all natural ingredients.
I bought for my SIL and she raves about it.

flippityfloppity · 05/01/2018 20:24

Harriet- full previa and potentially accreta, neither of which are idea really! We knew it was a risk given my history but I didn't think it would actually happen 😐

olicat · 05/01/2018 21:42

Ah flippity that sounds tough - Are you having a lot of extra monitoring?

Fairfax what an amazing name for a nipple cream 😂

FairfaxAikman · 05/01/2018 21:56

@olicat I love their stuff but Mudder Udder definitely has the best name.
IIRC it was originally developed to prevent cracked udders in cows and was refined for human use - all the ingredients are edible so no need to wash it off between feeds.

I plan on getting some for the amazing smell of nothing else.

TMI TIME! After having the worst constipation since Christmas I've now gone the complete other way and my stomach is gurgling away really uncomfortably 😭 pregnancy is wreaking havoc on my digestive system!

In an unrelated (kinda) matter...what's everyone taking for heartburn? I live off rennies usually but ive been taking so many of them that it seems to be becoming less effective :( I can't stand the taste Of gaviscon so that wont be any good.

We bought baby socks and a couple of security blankies today so I think we're done for teddy (other than nappies and formula) until hes at least 3 months old! Its nice to think he's sorted now, means I can get my head back in the game with regards to finishing my degree!

FairfaxAikman · 06/01/2018 23:01

Strawberry Gaviscon tablets - can't stand the mint ones

MrsDishavingaB · 07/01/2018 11:43

I've not had too much heartburn yet, the very few times I've had it I've been in bed and a drink has settled it. Not looking forward to getting it properly 😕

@MissYeti my guts are the same - either completely constipated or urgently running to the toilet three times in one night. It was really bad in the first trimester and then it settled down a bit in the second and now I'm in the third it's come right back again.

Bigmango · 07/01/2018 20:12

Long time lurker, first time poster! 28 weeks nearly and due on the 4th April with a little girl. Loving being pregnant but dreading going back to work tomorrow after the Christmas break. I'm a primary teacher and coordinate both maths and science so am ridiculously busy most of the time. I am thankful for the long break but pretty exhausted after hosting xmas here and travelling to Scotland for a family NY. Anyhoo...I'm sure once I start back it will be fine. Just can't imagine it now!

@MissYeti re constipation. I have had issues with this even before being preggo. I have found the best solutions have been eating an orange a day (not clementines....actual oranges) and if it gets bad then a spoon of psyllium husks in water. These are the main ingredients in fibogel but much cheaper if you buy them as is. The tablets don't work as well. Hope that helps!

mmai · 07/01/2018 21:22

@bigmango totally sympathise with constipation. I find drinking loads of fluids helps but that means going peeing every 2 secs!

MissYeti · 08/01/2018 09:59

Thanks for the suggestions 😁

Ovia says that today teddy has found his sense of balance and should start turning to birthing position...I'll ask at my 4D scan at the beginning Of Feb if this is the case!

harrietm87 · 08/01/2018 10:26

Feeling quite lucky now as haven't had heartburn or constipation yet - I'm sure it's only a matter of time!

Had my 26 week appointment today (I'm 27+1) and went well - fundal height 28cm and heard the heartbeat loud and clear! They also did bloods again. I asked mw about my itchy face and she said to ask the GP as unlikely to be pregnancy-related, even though it blatantly is!! She said itching really only a worry if it's hands, feet and abdomen.

MrsDishavingaB · 08/01/2018 10:29

Oh god I don't think my little fella is head down yet, I'm still getting plenty of kicks near my bladder unless he's punching it?

Any office workers on here finding sitting at your desk chair almost unbearable? My chair is so uncomfy every time I get up my sciatica makes me walk funny and I can't take a step without a muscle twingeing. I've got a lumbar pillow and a cushion and it's not helped so I've got a maternity ball to try 😖 next 8 weeks is going to be hell if I can't get some relief!

harrietm87 · 08/01/2018 10:34

@MrsDishavingaB I read in my pregnancy book yesterday that at this stage the baby can still put its feet up to its head, so don't assume head and feet are at opposite ends!

Sorry you've been uncomfortable. Apparently bouncing on a ball helps baby get into the right position so if it's not head down you could kill 2 birds with one stone!

FairfaxAikman · 08/01/2018 10:56

@MrsDishavingaB I have been given a Ball chair. Makes a big difference

MrsDishavingaB · 08/01/2018 13:12

@FairfaxAikman you've been given a ball chair?! You lucky thing!

Actually to be honest I think if I complained to my H&S manager he'd probably purchase me one but too late as I've got my own now. Sitting on it now after disturbing the whole office whilst blowing it up 😂 and although it feels weird it's a lot more comfy!

TrigsToo · 08/01/2018 13:30

Hey guys, hope you don't mind another one joining in!

I'm 34, currently 24w4d with my first - apparently a boy but he's such a wiggle monster that's not 100%! He's due 26/04.

I'm glad someone else mentioned sciatica, because I've been in quite a lot of pain over the past week and a half or so. It was on and off before that, but been so bad recently that I've been limping most of the time. It's mostly sciatic but also sometimes low in my back and when I sleep it's in my hips. Should I be worried? Planning on mentioning it to my midwife at my next appointment, but there was a bit of confusion so I'm not sure when that is yet!

FairfaxAikman · 08/01/2018 13:49

@MrsDishavingaB big company. They have a couple anyway though had to buy me a new one as the available one was broken

MissYeti · 08/01/2018 13:58

@trigstoo hi and congratulations! My little boy (confirmed twice) is a right little wiggle monster too so don't rule it out completely :D are girls supposed to move more than boys then?

Can't comment on the sciatica as I dont have it but if it's concerning you definitely bring it up with the midwife or make an appointment to see your gp

MrsDishavingaB · 08/01/2018 13:59

Aw welcome @TrigsToo congrats on your pregnancy ☺️ my boy is a wriggler too, at our sexing scan he was standing on his head kicking my side 🤦🏼‍♀️

The sciatica is a real pain in the ass (pun intended) and the pain in your back is most likely that but the pain in your hips could be more towards SPD/round ligament pain..I'd mention it at your next appointment but my midwife wasn't concerned. If it's really debilitating they might put you through for some physio type stuff. Hopefully you get some relief!

harrietm87 · 08/01/2018 14:08

Has anyone been told they shouldn't cross their legs in pregnancy? My midwife told me today to uncross my legs in my appointment twice! I'm most comfy sitting with my legs crossed up on the chair (with both feet off the ground) - is this really bad?

TrigsToo · 08/01/2018 14:13

Hey @MissYeti, thanks. And O don't know about girls moving more or anything, just meant that the sonographer didn't sound to sure when she said it looked like a boy because he was moving so much during the scan Grin

TrigsToo · 08/01/2018 14:17

Thanks @MrsDishavingaB, I will mention it at my next appointment. Think I've just been worrying because I'm naturally very flexible (can still put my hands flat on the floor with my legs straight even with the bump in the way), and thought that relaxin on top of that could be causing issues.

Thelostsock · 08/01/2018 14:26

@TrigsToo welcome! And yes I mentioned my hip pain (woken up in the night and driven to tears twice from the pain) and I've been referred to physio. Really hoping they can do something as it's left me unable to do much of anything! Midwife diagnosed SPD

@harrietm87 yes I've been told that too, was told to start sitting like a man! It's to do with making sure your pelvis can relax into position properly I think (not that I now have that problem!)

MissYeti · 08/01/2018 17:18

trigs oooh I see! Well from what I've always been told if they tell you it's a boy then its generally cuz they see something. Girls are harder to determine cuz they can just be late blooming boys (or whatever I dont know xD)

Well if he's supposed to be starting to turn he definitely hasn't done it today! Hes just had a very active 10 minutes and every last one of them was down low. I'm intrigued by pp who said they can have their feet by their heads - baby is infinitely more flexible than I am if that's the case!
