I didn't have bloods taken at 16 weeks :o I thought 16 week tests were only if you missed the combined screening?

MissYeti · 03/01/2018 13:45

That was not the emoji I was expecting...

Thelostsock · 03/01/2018 14:16

Thanks @MissYeti, how strange as I definitely had that! Oh well, off to have them done on Friday now, who knows what for Grin

Jeds55 · 03/01/2018 15:21

Not sure Theloststock but had more taken yesterday (at 27 weeks) and midwife said they were to check iron levels and antibodies in the blood? Maybe the 16 week ones are for similar... in fact thinking about it not sure I had 16 week ones but earlier ones at 12 week scan? Don't quote me on that though, brain seems to have gone a bit recently!

MrsDishavingaB · 03/01/2018 15:57

Oh god I didn't haven't any at 16 weeks either, I had them at my booking appointment and at 12 week scan and then nothing since. I even asked at my 16 week appt if I was supposed to be having more taken and she said "nope!"
Everyone gave me the impression that I was going to become a human pin cushion with the amount of bloods taken...I can only guess it gets more frequent in the latter stages?

MangoLove · 03/01/2018 16:51

If I remember correctly: I had bloods done:

  • At my booking appointment ( at around 8 weeks)
  • With my 12 week scan - as part of screening
  • And i'm due to have another at 28 weeks.
Nothing at 16 weeks.
MrsDishavingaB · 03/01/2018 21:06

Am I a bit weird to find watching One Born Every Minute oddly therapeutic? I find it's calming my nerves 🤔

Thelostsock · 03/01/2018 21:10

Yes I'm the same, every time I see anyone I expect to be giving blood! I shall let you know what it's for on Friday Smile

harrietm87 · 03/01/2018 22:45

I don't think they take bloods routinely at 16 weeks, only if you have an existing issue or if your earlier bloods showed a problem.

This link sets out what they do and when:
www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/antenatal-appointment-schedule.aspx

I see there that they do appointments at 25 and 28 weeks for first babies. I'm having my 25 week one 2 weeks late (at 27 weeks) as I was away over Christmas - wonder if I'll have them 2 weeks in a row/I'll miss one out/my 28 week one will also be pushed back?! Will have to wait and see.

Also, has anyone else had an itchy face??? I've googled and could be anything from dry skin to obstetric cholestasis - trying not to worry!

MissYeti · 03/01/2018 22:50

mrsD I watch one born religiously for exactly that reason! I feel much more relaxed when I know as much as I can about various things that can happen during pregnancy and childbirth. Didn't know shoulder dystosia was a thing until I saw it on one born

MrsDishavingaB · 04/01/2018 09:44

@harrietm87 I've had really itchy skin around my eyes which has made my eyes water, I started using my face cream a bit more religiously and it has helped heaps. It might just be dry skin, have you tried using a mild moisturiser for sensitive skin to see if that helps?

@MissYeti I find it really calms me and is taking away many fears! DH on the other hand walks out of the room whenever it's on as it's panicking the crap out of him 😂

Thelostsock · 04/01/2018 09:57

@harrietm87 yes itchy skin, my eczema has gotten very bad. It's just from dry skin, I've been using moisturiser every day and have found the Aveeno in shower oil is wonderful, I even use it on my face! Someone in here recommended it

DaisyLand · 04/01/2018 10:05

I used to have dermatitis in one hand and now with pregnancy i've got in both! Joys of pregnancy!

If you are a ftm like me, maybe this thread is helpful for you ... I've opeend it this morning and got really good advise about what to put in the changing bags , i had to open a note in my icloud account not to miss anything!

MissYeti · 04/01/2018 11:57

@mrsDishavingaB my partner is exactly the same 😂 especially when it comes to the Csections - he doesn't realise that if it came to it, he'd be on the other side of the screen same as me

olicat · 04/01/2018 13:16

I used to love watching one born but now birth is a reality I can't bring myself to 🙈

Thelostsock · 04/01/2018 14:31

Me too @olicat!!!

MrsDishavingaB · 04/01/2018 20:11

You ladies that don't like watching it now will probably fare far better in labour than I will 😂 I want to be all confident and say I was fine but have a feeling I may be one of the people that turns into an incomprehensible looney that screams the ward down

As it's been 2 days and no phone call...can I safely say I doubt I have gestational diabetes? 😬

MrsDishavingaB · 04/01/2018 20:14

Ooh @DaisyLand that's a very good thread you've started! Some things you really don't think about being in there.

Have people got their nappy bags yet? My lovely sisters got me the Cath Kidston Mickey nappy bag for Christmas and I love it! I daren't tell them that I actually purchased one of those LAND backpack style ones that you see all over the Facebook/instagram/Pinterest at the moment. That can be my back up nappy bag 🙈

flippityfloppity · 04/01/2018 23:17

Sorry, I feel like I'm intruding - I've not had five minutes it feels like since the two lines came up way back then! I haven't posted since very early on. I find it really hard to keep up on mumsnet these days.

To just jump in - is anyone else having placenta issues?

Thelostsock · 05/01/2018 08:58

Also found that thread brilliantly useful, thank you @DaisyLand

harrietm87 · 05/01/2018 14:24

Yes thanks daisyland!

I've started making a list of stuff for my hospital bag - has anyone else started to prepare theirs yet?

Also ordered the pram yesterday - bugaboo bee - so starting to feel a bit more real now!

Re the itchy face, I have been moisturising but will maybe try some heavier stuff like Nivea and see if that helps.

flippity no placenta issues afaik- what's up with yours?

FairfaxAikman · 05/01/2018 14:36

@harrietm87 Aveeno is the dog's dangly bits - I have skin issues due to a facial scald as a teen and discovering Aveeno has been a game changer.

DaisyLand · 05/01/2018 15:04

Harriet we’ve got the same pushchair! Which colours have you gone for ? I’ve for ruby red + grey melange

MrsDishavingaB · 05/01/2018 15:42

@harrietm87 I've started to buy some bits for my hospital bag...for breast pads, maternity pads and a cheap black nightie from Primark that I don't mind getting ruined. Got a stock pile of nappies and wipes. All I need to get is Lanisoh, a giant microfibre towel (for folding purposes!) and small toiletries then I'll be good to pack it all in a bag. Maybe feel a little silly packing it away right now but as long as I've grouped them together I know I can easily grab them if needs be!

harrietm87 · 05/01/2018 15:58

@DaisyLand very similar! Grey melange seat and red melange canopy! I got it in John Lewis but they don't do the red melange canopy (it's like burgundy on the outside and the lining is ruby red) so got that separately on baby planet online. I know it's a bit shallow but I love how it looks!

@MrsDishavingaB that sounds sensible - I'm definitely getting nightie and massive pants in primark! Boots sent me a double points coupon for my birthday so going to get the pads, breast pads, lansinoh etc there with that. I know it's early but I like to be prepared!
