@mmai I find all the normal maternity leggings go really see through, which is why I wanted workout ones as hoped they would be thicker. They are so expensive though!!

@Aspenn17 I'm also hoping that NCT will be a good way to make friends as well, with people who are going to have similar aged children.

My next app is next week, when I will be 25 weeks and a few days. I was under the impression that everyone had a 25 week app (from friends and family) but I know a lot of different areas do things differently.
I think mine is blood tests, urine tests, measuring my bump and listening to heartbeat.
Maybe ring the Midwife and double check though!!

mmai · 02/01/2018 12:00

bought the cropped leggings from mam Bebe- they are quite thick (have bought the H&M ones and they actually torn whilst I was getting in and out of a chair when I was on a flight!)

mmai · 02/01/2018 12:03

Just wondered what kind of exercises do people do at this stage?
I was very active pre preg but now finding it very difficult to not as being as active although try to jog (very slowly) for 20 mins for about 2x per week

Testar0ssa · 02/01/2018 12:28

I've not had my bump measured yet, which I consider to be a good thing.

I'm bigger anyway and so my bump always measured on the larger end of the scale last time. I then had a growth scan at 30-something week, was told baby was very small and "there are significant risks with a baby that small". No explanation nothing, and then same midwife querying why I was very upset and angry and I should just go away and think about it. Cue me going off the deep end. I then found a Dr to talk to who explained all the measurements taken in the scan, said everything was in proportion, told me bump measurements were notoriously unreliable and that the midwife should never have spoken to me like that, he recognised who I was talking about, indicates that it wasn't the first time that such a thing had happened and encouraged me to make a complaint.

Baby turned up 7 lbs 12.

The only thing I really struggle with in pregnancy is that you need to trust your professionals-and most of them are brilliant, compassionate, empathetic and knowledgeable. There is the odd one however who do a good job in RUINING all the others' good work!

If you want to listen to heartbeat, ask for it. I've heard mine at last midwife appointment and at my 25 week appointment (which was with my GP in our area).

Testar0ssa · 02/01/2018 12:32

Exercise? What's that?! Running around after toddler, and getting down on the floor to play with them right??

I try to get a walk in when I can, but having to leave promptly from work usually means I feel obliged to stay at my desk during lunch in order to get everything done, and once Baby is to bed, I'm shattered and weekends are for chores.

Re NCT, I didn't do them (I reckon I got everything I needed to know from friends and a book), and have friends and family to call upon to keep me company during the day so didn't feel isolated. If I didn't have that network though of people to see during the day in the week I would have DEFINITELY done NCT

olicat · 02/01/2018 13:07

GTT people - my next appointment won5 be til 26+5 and despite my dad having diabetes I haven't been offered one. Am I supposed to be having one?! I feel a bit worried as bump has grown quite a lot which could just be Christmas/a growth spurt but just want to make sure it's not unchecked GD. They're already checking my blood sugar at each appointment but there's quite a gap between 20 and 26 weeks.

Exercise wise I'm swimming and doing pregnancy yoga when I can. Classes wise I've booked hypnobirthing which I'm super excited about!

olicat · 02/01/2018 13:10

Ps I literally don't think I'd be able to cope with not eating for 14 hours 😂

harrietm87 · 02/01/2018 13:32

My next appointment is 8 Jan when I'll be 27 weeks - it would have been earlier (26 weeks) but I've been away over Christmas.

I booked NCT back in October and it was already booked up for my due date, so I went for a slightly later one (mid April- Mid May due dates though I'm due 8 April). They start in Feb. I'm mainly going hoping to meet people in the area as we've just moved and don't know anyone.

My bump has also grown massively over Christmas - wasn't really showing before and no mistaking it now!!

boatrace30 · 02/01/2018 13:46

@rosegarden45 . I'd say NCT isn't necessary for knowledge - you can get that from free NHS classes/books/websites etc.
But fantastic for meeting friends who'll have babies at the same time as you. I did NCT nearly three years ago for DD and some of the people I met have become extremely close friends

boatrace30 · 02/01/2018 13:47

And DD (2 and a half) is great friends with all the NCT toddlers. More so than nursery. It's a great network!

Testar0ssa · 02/01/2018 13:48

Harriet, call and ask the question and chat it through. The worst thing is when the query goes round and round your head.

Aspenn17 · 02/01/2018 14:11

Thanks everyone, It's my first baby, so sounds like I should be having one sooner than 29 weeks.... I'll give them a call I think! Anyone ever had carpal tunnel when pregnant?

In terms of exercise I do yoga and swimming. I agreed to go on a long New Year's Eve walk with friends and I didn't quite anticipate how long and hilly and muddy it would be and DH had to walk back alone and get the car because I was struggling so much 🙈 I was so embarrassed but I do need to remember to relax a bit more!!

LivLemler · 02/01/2018 14:53

Happy new year all! And welcome and congratulations to the newbies.

I've been feeling much better over Christmas for the rest - so much sleep and my back and hips aren't sore any more. Not looking forward to returning to work tomorrow and starting it all again. On the other hand, I have a rotten cold that is threatening to turn into a cough, which is really bad timing workwise. Just hoping the rest over Christmas will stop it getting too bad and I don't lose my voice.

Exercise wise, all I do is walk (4 miles as standard as part of my commute, more if I go into town after work) but I was wrecked before Christmas.

27 weeks tomorrow, which seems a bit mad.

MrsDishavingaB · 02/01/2018 16:01

Aww @LivLemler we're due date buds! I'm 27 weeks tomorrow too - it's mad that we're this far already.

@Aspenn17 my 25 week was supposed to be with GP and my midwife told me to book that at my 16 week appt but I never got an appt in time, earliest date I got was today and my next midwife appt is next week so I didn't bother.

@olicat you would've been booked for a GTT by now if they were concerned about you love, if they're monitoring your sugars and they've been happy so far you're more than likely ok. GD can happen to anyone, you're not necessarily more likely due to your dad. I've had a test due to my BMI and PCOS, cos obviously fatty just sits here eating sweets and chocolate all day 🙄

Jeds55 · 02/01/2018 16:46

Hi, another one who has to do a GTT next week. Just been to my 28 week appt (Am actually 27+2)and baby measuring big. M/wife didn't seem too concerned as my partner is over 6 foot 4 so said it could be genes! She gave me the drink already so won't have to wait in hospital for 2 hours inbetween. Fingers crossed baby is taking after her dad!

Jeds55 · 02/01/2018 16:49

I've booked NCT classes (first one Thursday) so will feedback 're usefulness, although have heard it's hit and miss and down to the trainer and luck of the draw with the group. I booked them as moved here last year and know no one other than partners family.

mmai · 02/01/2018 19:01

Hi everyone
Just to vent really
Is anyone getting Fed up and cheesed off with the amount of opinions from friends and family about birth and parenting? When did all these ppl become experts all the sudden?!
They probably mean well but I'm fed up with people saying 'good luck' (sniggering), 'get used to the lack of sleep' etc etc

MrsDishavingaB · 02/01/2018 19:56

@mmai my husband is sick to death of these comments - he always takes it as a personal insult. His reaction to me (quietly afterward mind you) is to ask if people are legitimately trying to scare him off and fear having a child.
I tend to take it on the chin and let it be just one of those things you have to hear 1,000 times over before baby comes, people think they're being funny whilst subtly reminding you that parenthood is no easy task but I just think...my baby was planned, do you not think I don't know all of this already?

Aspenn17 · 02/01/2018 21:49

MrsD you were right 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was meant to book it myself with the GP not the midwife! I will call them tomorrow and explain and try and get one this week!

Also YES mmai! Haven't had too much on the 'parenting' side of things but seeing friends with babies over Christmas some of them are super positive and others just constantly patronise 'you don't even know the meaning of tired' 'say goodbye to relaxing holidays' etc etc 🙄 I know our lives will be very different but we fully accepted that when we decided we wanted a baby!!

DaisyLand · 02/01/2018 22:11

I glf the holidays thing the other day from my nearly 60y cousin that has never travelled and whose son has never travelled and therefore hasn’t stopped now that has for a ds. He said forget about holidays in 18years. I smiled and thought “whatever , my ds will be like his mum , an addicted to traveling “ I decided to bring a child to this world to enjoy from this world , and the world is too big !

Been today with my 3 friends that have been mum this year , aw dear tell me children have got a switch off button !

FourForYouGlenCoco · 02/01/2018 23:38

Belated happy new year everyone!
Re people’s daft comments - ignore, ignore, ignore. The first year with the first baby is one of the most full-on, exhausting, intense things you’ll ever do, but it’s bloody amazing and totally worth it - if it wasn’t, no one would ever go on to have a second child! Yes it limits your options, but only temporarily - my eldest is 5 now and if she was an only, we’d have a very easy life by now - relaxing holidays/exotic travel etc would be totally feasible and within reach. You might have to put things on hold for a little bit, but you don’t have to give up everything you ever enjoyed just because you had a kid. People just like to be miserable!

No NCT classes here, we didn’t do the NHS antenatal ones either. Neither of us knew a damn thing about how to look after a baby, but here we are on the third kid and we’ve managed somehow Grin they seem to be turning out pretty well so far. When I had DC1 I didn’t know anyone else who had a baby, but we went to lots of baby groups and I made friends through there - I’m still super close with one of them 5 years later, despite living 100+ miles away now. I also felt like I was the wrong demographic for NCT, and didn’t like some of the anecdotes I heard about them favouring certain choices around birth, feeding etc - seemed like there might be a bit of ‘right way/wrong way’, which isn’t for me. But equally I know some people who have loved them, made amazing friends, and been given really comprehensive, balanced information about all possible birth choices and outcomes - so I guess, like every single other aspect of parenting, it’s down to individual choice Wink

ClaireBear1986 · 03/01/2018 09:08

@mmai, in terms of exercise not much. I am going to start trying to go swimming once a week if I can (I get bad eczema which seems to get worse thanks to the chlorine so will have to see how I get on) I am starting pregnancy yoga this month which I am really looking forward to and I have an exercise DVD for pregnancy that I do at home, on the few occasions I have the energy.
Going to start going for more walks too, as I really enjoy walking. (As long as it isn't raining)

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling fed up of all the daft and sometimes nasty comments.
My partner's family had me close to tears over New Year with some of their inconsiderate comments.

I agree with everyone else and just ignore as best we can.

MissYeti · 03/01/2018 11:22

So mumsnet decided I didnt need to follow this thread Anymore so I need to catch up! Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and new year! Imma mooch through and see what I've missed

MissYeti · 03/01/2018 11:42

Okay so RE 25 week appointment ive got mine on the 9th (25+1) originally I thought it was because ive been put on the pink (I think) pathway for bmi but nhs says it's a normal appt for 1st time pregnancies which is nice. Was booked by my midwife at my 16 week appt.

RE birthing classes I haven't even though about them. Definitely wont be anything available before D-Day now! Gonna wing it, half expecting to have a c-section if teddy stays breech (he seems to be at the moment, kicks are still very low) otherwise will be asking for a water birth. From what ive seen from one born (very sciency I know) the midwives talk you through it anyways!

RE exercise...I'm a lazy toad xD I haven't done anything yet but am in the process of convincing OH to come swimming with me (he's a bit tubby so could do with the exercise too) but we walk our pup twice daily so that helps!

Teddy has really popped out in the last couple weeks! He seems to really want to make his appearance known now that he's technically viable! (As of Monday woo woo!) Congrats to those in the third trimester already! Its amazing how fast this is going, we're going to have baby announcements before we know it!

Thelostsock · 03/01/2018 13:34

Happy New Year everyone!

Just got back from my 28 week apt. Baby is head down already! The midwife also realised that no bloods were taken at 16 weeks so now I'm worried about what could have been missed. Can anyone remember?

Exciting times now though, the countdown begins!
