@amzq87 I'm doing good! I'm dying to tell my mum. This is the first grandchild and the first baby on her side of the family (my parents are separated) in 10 years so I know she's going to be sooo excited. I'm weirdly enjoying spotting all the symptoms and luckily haven't actually been sick yet. How about you?

The sleep is what's getting me down too @Babydreaming I love sleep and have never had a problem with insomnia. I think most of my morning sickness happens between 5am-8am and then all over lunch time which is a horrible pattern!

peterpanwendy · 23/12/2017 07:55

Congrats!! @Herecomesanotheron2018

LadesC · 23/12/2017 07:57

Peterpan ive always been a huge sleep monster but ive been waking up about 230 for upto 2hrs at a time. And ive woken up feeling sicky this morning 😣

Herecomesanotheron2018 · 23/12/2017 07:57

Thanks @peterpanwendy
Apart from dh and my best friend we haven't told anyone yet as I'm absolutely terrified Blush We've been ttc for a year so I think I'm in a but of shock tbh!

milney25 · 23/12/2017 08:04

I keep waking needing the loo at 3.30am. This morning I had terrible nausea and struggling to lie back down for an hour or two. Now up and out to do the Christmas shop 🤢

amzq87 · 23/12/2017 08:13

Congrats @Herecomesanotheron2018 and welcome to the club!!

@peterpanwendy can't wait to tell my 'rents either. We're telling them Christmas Day as both sets will be together - although the promise that I would cook Christmas dinner doesn't match with my sickness at the mo haha!

E2017 · 23/12/2017 08:38

Anyone got any suggestions on how to hide sickness from work. Had comments all morning so far about 'oooh you must be pregnant', 'Got morning sickness have you etc'. What they don't seem to realise is just how right they are. 🙁😳🤢

babyH3O · 23/12/2017 08:46

@E2017 Try travel sickness bands, and eat little and often. Keep some crackers by your bed to try to eat as soon as you wake.

E2017 · 23/12/2017 08:48

Got the crackers always on hand anyway now. Will try sickness bands though. Thank you. Xx

YouCantBeSirius · 23/12/2017 09:00

I'm absolutely exhausted. I'm falling asleep during the day, then falling asleep watching TV in the evening. Then when I go to bed I'm wide awake tossing and turning for hours Hmm bloody typical

peterpanwendy · 23/12/2017 09:17

@LadesC I've been waking up feeling sicky too, how horrible is it! Hope it doesn't last too many weeks!

@Herecomesanotheron2018 me too! It feels like such a big secret. How many weeks are you? I'm 7 today so feel alright about telling my mum on Xmas day

@amzq87 so exciting! Not sure whether to tell the in laws on Xmas eve or Boxing Day, it'll be too busy on Xmas day when we go round there to tell them in private. I'm cooking too... we can do this! As long as our OH's help 😂

@YouCantBeSirius I'm the same 🙄🤢

BertieBotts · 23/12/2017 09:49

Hi Here! We have a very close due date and we're also trying for a long time.

I don't even want to tell family until at least 6 weeks because we've always miscarried just before that. My family don't really get our struggles and I can't handle too much positivity or thinking ahead. DH's family all have the same issue as us so they get it! But it's not fair just to tell one half. I want to see a heartbeat. But we have friends over for new year and we'll explain to them cos they'll notice anyway.

I have DS aged 9 and we might tell him at 6 weeks too, or 8 - 8 or 10 weeks also seem like useful milestones.

BertieBotts · 23/12/2017 09:51

DH bless him has utterly taken over Christmas dinner and his enthusiasm unnerves me. His cooking is either great or awful. So we'll see. Going to be a laugh anyway :) luckily it's just the three of us!

BertieBotts · 23/12/2017 09:53

I don't feel sick until I'm already up but I get the most horrendous dry mouth all night and want to brush my teeth twice.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 23/12/2017 10:05

Ahh bless you Bertie hope you have a lovely Christmas just you three 💗 we have done this a couple of times and it was bliss. This year we are driving around the houses as my dd is with her dad and we've not got a baby (had I not miscarried in May I would have a 2/3 week old now!). Our plan was to stay home with new baby but I'm hoping that will be next year now.

Still no symptoms and digital still says 2-3 but trying not to worry as I'm only just 5+0 today. Made it to 8 weeks last time before it started to go wrong so i don't think I'll be able to relax until after that.

Gizzymum · 23/12/2017 10:08

I remember complaining about the lack of sleep during my first pregnancy but am sat here inwardly chuckling to myself about how it gets even worse when the baby is here. I remember having less than 7hrs sleep in total in the first 4 days. 😳😂 Fortunately things do get better...

TheGrumpySquirrel · 23/12/2017 10:09

Oh meant to say that Boxing Day 2016 was when we started ttc and we had just started fertility investigations when I got this BFP. DH has very low count so I feel like this pregnancy is a proper miracle!

SpriteGirl · 23/12/2017 10:24

@E2017 yes sea bands have really helped me. Don’t take it away 100% but am able to function a lot better and feel happy!

@BertieBotts yes! I get such a dry mouth too!

@peterpanwendy I told my parents on Tuesday. First grandchild for them and first baby this side of the family too. My mum is so excited.

@Herecomesanotheron2018 congratulations!

BertieBotts · 23/12/2017 12:16

2-3 is perfect for being exactly 5 weeks. Remember those week things aren't hugely accurate and will also depend on things like how dilute your wee is. There used to be a really good breakdown on an amazon review but it got deleted ages ago, I think the top level sometimes doesn't trigger until hCG is 6,000 or higher which can be coming up for 6 weeks.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 23/12/2017 12:19

Thanks Bertie, these are the trigger levels. I'm hoping I was at the low end of 2-3 at 4+0 and at the high end today.

Sparklesdontshine · 23/12/2017 12:57

My sickness has kicked in properly now, plus the tiredness 😴😴. We are having a party today, I don’t know how I’m going to hide not drinking whilst trying not to fall asleep!

Hana327 · 23/12/2017 13:03

My mum keeps commenting on how tired I am all the time! Obviously not hiding it that well!
@E2017 if you find a way to hide it from work let me know. Not sure I'm going to hide this sickness when I go back after Christmas!

E2017 · 23/12/2017 13:32

I'm on shift the whole way through Christmas including Christmas Day. Nipped out to boots earlier to get some seabands. Thought they were working miracles as I managed to hold down a whole glass of water and an apple... lasted about 10 minutes. 🤞🤢😷

BertieBotts · 23/12/2017 13:57

Yes - but the review I'm talking about the guy found that they're actually not always that sensitive and they vary hugely.

I think I copied the text onto a thread ages ago but I have no idea where to start searching, sorry :(

BertieBotts · 23/12/2017 14:08

Found on wayback machine! :)

Here's the text of the review:

There seems to be some confusion about what the results of this test mean. I'll try to clear things up. The 3 levels do in fact measure 3 different levels of HCG, but there's a huge range of sensitivity for each level. If your blood level is 250 and the test only shows 1-2 weeks, it doesn't mean the test is defective. What it does mean its that Clearblue's instructions are not really as clear as they should be.

The manufacturer has to file its test results with the FDA and that's public information. Check out the chart on page 6: www.accessdata.fda.gov/cdrh_docs/reviews/K112870.pdf

The Pregnant 3+ weeks threshold is 2600 mIU/ml. However if you look at their data, only 21 of 90 tests they did with exactly 2513 mIU/ml of HCG tested positive. The other 69 were false negatives. You aren't guaranteed to get a "3+ weeks" result until after your level is at least 4000. Clinical guidelines at that gestation are 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml, however, so basically this test can't tell you anything other than "you're pregnant" at 3 weeks past conception.

Please realize that this means that many many 4-week conceptuses (when your doctor would say you are 6 weeks along) are going to test as "2-3 weeks", and that is absolutely not a reason to panic. If you get one negative test, that does not mean a negative result. You have to do several tests, possibly even from different boxes, to be sure.

In summary:

If you get "Not pregnant", you may still have an HCG level below 17. Try another test today, and then again in 2 days.

If you get 1-2 weeks, that means that your HCG level is almost definitely between 10 and 500. It is most likely to be between 10 and 180.
1-2 weeks can turn positive anywhere above 10 ml/IU, but it doesn't reach 99% accuracy until 17. Clinical guidelines are 5 - 50 mIU/ml

If you get 2-3 weeks, that means that your HCG level is almost definitely between 120 and 4000. It is most likely to be between 180 and 2900.
2-3 weeks can turn positive anywhere above 120, but it doesn't reach 99% accuracy until 500. Clinical guidelines are 5 - 426 mIU/ml

If you get 3+ weeks, that means that your HCG level is almost definitely above 2100. It is most likely to be above 2900.
3+ weeks can turn positive anywhere above 2100, but it doesn't reach 99% accuracy until 4000. Clinical guidelines are 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml

The error bars on this test are wide enough that I would consider the weeks results to be entertainment only. You should absolutely not use this test to try to determine what your HCG level is. If your specific HCG level is important, go get a blood test done.

All that said, this is the only test on the market right now that can give you any clue at all about how much HCG is in your sample, and it can provide you some useful information. To know whether a particular level is accurate for a single sample, you'd need to take something like 10 tests at once. But if you just want reassurance that your pregnancy is progressing, you can use one test each time, and even with the large error bars on this test, it will eventually show progress, because your HCG level is steadily increasing. You may not hit "3+" until your 6th week however and that would still be within clinical guidelines. I wouldn't make any decisions based on this test unless the decision is to see a doctor and get a blood test done.

Plus:
Another review said that the test only showed 1-2 for her, but she had a blood test later that day with a level of 283.
