@CumbrianExile the cocktails had the added bonus of being tasty too :-)

E2017 · 19/12/2017 22:04

Hope you don't mind if I join. I'm 6w1d today.

amzq87 · 19/12/2017 22:12

Hello and welcome @E2017 x

SpriteGirl · 19/12/2017 22:53

@ZoeRoma geriatric first timer here too Grin

Have told my brother and parents today so exciting to be able to tell them, it’s their first grandchild. When I told my Mum I’d be classed as geriatric she laughed and said it was nonsense.

@E2017 congratulations and welcome x

CaffeineDragon · 20/12/2017 02:07

For those asking - a geriatric pregnancy is 35+ Wink

Babydreaming · 20/12/2017 06:11

@E2017 congratulations! We might be due date buddies as I’m around 6w-6w3d too!!

@BertieBotts I recognise you from conception boards, huge congratulations!! It’s a scary time but just take each day as it comes and try not to google too much! I’m also moving on 1st week of January...I’ll be about 9 weeks and will then have to quickly register with GP and declare the pregnancy...I’m hoping I can get a quick booking appt and scan after that! Will you tell your GP here first or wait til you move?

BertieBotts · 20/12/2017 06:41

Oh we aren't moving too far, I'll probably stay with my current gynecologist. DH wants me to phone them today at least, but I'm thinking I might try again to get in with the one I liked better.

ZoeRoma · 20/12/2017 06:47

Welcome to the new ladies!

@CumbrianExile @Sparklesdontshine @SpriteGirl - wow quite a few of us "geriatrics" Grin

I'll be 41 when I give birth, all being well. I'm fitter than the average bear, but of course that doesn't mean much when it comes to elevated risk levels. I'm refusing to class myself as a geriatric mum in my head, though. Doesn't change anything, and just adds to the worry!

E2017 · 20/12/2017 07:38

Thank you for the welcome ladies.

@Babydreaming sounds like we could well be.

What countries are you all from? I'm in the UK.

ZoeRoma · 20/12/2017 08:01

@E2017 I'm in Italy. I just moved here from Spain!

CumbrianExile · 20/12/2017 08:22

UK here too. Not t actually exiled that far from Cumbria! Still in the north west.

I am 37, will be 38 when I give birth so feel far from old! I'm just taking this pregnancy as it comes regardless of the geriatric title Grin

Lot of people have told family already? I think I'll tell my folks at the end of the month when we go up to visit! They'll guess with the. I drinking if I don't anyway. Everyone else can wait til we have had the scan.

Not sure when to tell DS though. He's only 3 so not sure how much he'll understand. Probably after we have had the scan? Those with older kids when are you telling yours?

Hana327 · 20/12/2017 08:29

Welcome @E2017 I wasn't 6w 1d yesterday 2!

Hana327 · 20/12/2017 08:30

Welcome @E2017 I WAS 6w 1d yesterday as well!

Gizzymum · 20/12/2017 08:31

@CumbrianExile @Sparklesdontshine @SpriteGirl @ZoeRoma

I think they changed "geriatric" Mum to over 40 (but used to be 35). I had DS at 38 (6mths ago) and wasn't classed as a geriatric Mum. I'll be 39 this time round if all goes to plan.

CumbrianExile · 20/12/2017 08:39

Ah gizzymum I thought it was 35. Thanks for the info. I do need to get booked in with the midwife but not had chance yet. So different to my first when i was booking doctors appts as soon as I got the bfp Grin

Gizzymum · 20/12/2017 08:59

@CumbrianExile I'm NW too.

We've told our parents and my sister (and work as I'm back to back mat leave if all goes as planned) but have booked in for NIPT and a scan at about 10.5weeks so will tell people after that. I'm meant to be out on a girls night out with my NCT mums when I'm 11weeks so wanted to be able to tell them then, rather than make excuses for the sake of a week.

ZoeRoma · 20/12/2017 09:02

Haha I'm geriatric even by the new 40+ standard

SpriteGirl · 20/12/2017 09:43

@Gizzymum well that changes things Grin thanks for the info. I turned 36 yesterday.

Regardless of geriatric status or not I feel young and pretty much at the right time in my life for this Smile

E2017 · 20/12/2017 10:22

I'm 29, will be 30 before due date if all goes to plan.

Husband and I conceived via ivf ICSI. Keep worrying all the time still. Just hoping all is ok! This is our first attempt at ivf. So this is my first pregnancy.

I've got a scan on 27th so should know more then. 🤞

BertieBotts · 20/12/2017 10:38

I'm from the UK but I live in Germany.

I have my appointment! 29th December. I'll be exactly 5+4 that day so might be a bit emotional as that's always the date I've miscarried before :( But in many ways actually it should be really good to have the check on that exact date. Going by previous experiences I'm quite likely to get a scan - fingers crossed!

I'm 29 too. When I had DS I was 19 when I got pregnant - which now feels very young but I think I did alright :)

How are you all feeling about Christmas preparations? I've just told DH to look up things he and DS can cook for Christmas dinner because I just don't know what I'll be up to! I'm feeling pretty dizzy and sick and keep falling asleep - totally different to any other time I've been pregnant (fourth pregnancy, which is mad! But will be DC2 if it all goes well.)

SpriteGirl · 20/12/2017 10:52

@BertieBotts I have my first midwife appointment on the 29th too Smile Will be exactly eight weeks on that day. Hoping everything goes well for you and you have a healthy pregnancy.

UK here too.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 20/12/2017 10:53

@BertieBotts is that your booking in appointment? I'll be 6 weeks on 30th December Grin not heard from MW unit yet. Nervous to do next CB digital, don't think I'll hold out till 6 weeks. Might do it on 26th.

BertieBotts · 20/12/2017 10:59

No, not really the same thing as booking in, more confirmation of pregnancy - they get you to do a urine test, take blood (repeat in 48 hours to check hCG is rising) and take note of any significant history but they don't do proper booking in until 8-10 weeks, like in the UK. Last time I had a scan as well but they couldn't see anything as I was only just 4 weeks so they repeated it again 2 days later and I had a tiny 3mm sac! I still have the picture from that one even though sadly it wasn't meant to be.

Here you have to find a midwife yourself and last time I phoned one I'd seen recommended at 4 weeks, she laughed (nicely!) and said to phone back in a few weeks' time. I'm a bit anxious though because apparently there is a shortage so you might end up without one! But the main medical care is done by the gynecologist, and the delivery will be with midwives who work in the hospital you choose, not the one you see for antenatal and postnatal care. So the midwife is really more for advice, emotional support and then they come and check on you once you're home for things like breastfeeding help and PND support. But I think that's nice because you can choose your own, not be stuck with a patronising HV you don't like!

milney25 · 20/12/2017 12:03

Hi everyone!

I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and I've had a few scans due to spotting, last one was yesterday and we had a strong heartbeat. I've had nausea for the last week, quite badly. But I feel OK today - is it normal?!
