I'm here, only quick because I am . That's sick not jealous. Can't keep anything down. Don't worry. Maybe I ate something strange after all. DH has gone to the pharmacy to beg for something.

((((((((((((Pebble)))))))))))))))) I'm very close to my brother too so can understand how you feel. I have to echo though when we lived 300 miles apart we actually saw each other more- you make more plans because you know you have to. He's 20 miles away now and I see him not as often as I would like!

Must go, LG&T great about the date and you sound upbeat, LWatkins, don't tear your hair out it's not long now, MKG great news about scan- sex and nipple stim all the way, cameroonmama I AM NOT IN LABOUR so no need for LulaDoula!

Hi everybody else, hope you went out Scoot!

BefnalBub · 19/04/2007 20:14

Evening! I have been busy but not as busy as you lot! My news is that my BP is up again so am being closely monitored and my (newly) treasured plan for a home birth is a bit wibbly as a result. The irony is that the doctor has told me to take it easy - can't really see how I can do much less - even when I'm working I just sit on the couch with my computer on my lap.

Good thing is that bub is the right way up with its head on my pelvic rim...so one less task of crawling around per day - was getting quite sick of it (ok, ok, I did it once or twice!).

I've started the raspberry leaf tea this week - 2 cups - is anyone else taking tablets too - where do you get them and are they necessary on top of the tea?

MKG · 19/04/2007 20:17

I have to add that I watched "Children of Men" last night and that Clive Owen is the Uk's #1 export

Mrsjaffabiffa · 19/04/2007 20:31

SOH, glad you are still around, sorry you are sick, although that can be a sign too.

BB, great news on your bub pointing in the right direction.

MKG, your scan sounds so fab, not long to go and fab weight already. Ouchhhhhhh. lol

oh sorry forgot.

LW, I can't believe they are being so unreasonable about your exams. Glad you feel better for your strawberries. Yummm I agree....

I did not go out.I went home, got changed to go out, sat down and fell asleep, at about 6.30!Have just now woken up and found my Mum who is still here and DH eating fish and chips downstairs and wheres mine?!
Blighters!

Good news largegandt I think-at least you can plan it all out now!

Relax properly now then Befnal, with your BP..

I know what you mean about the 10lb delivery not being appealing MKG..ive no idea what this baby is measuring as midwife didnt seem to be very aware of much really-Im hoping no bigger than DD anyway, 7.7lbs was plenty for me!

What a bunch of numptys at the uni lwatkins, I mean really...I only had 8 hours a week when I was at uni and it cost me similar--I found that galling but they are treating you appallingly!Tossers..lots of hugs to you anyway-its really the last thing you want to worry about right now..

Elective induction Mrs JB?How do they start if off then?Ive always been intrigued to know..is it drugs they give you then?

Mathilda still on board SOH, good O!My friend is off sick today as well with vomiting-might be doing the rounds?Although, (whispers) I still think its Mathilda related..

Thanks to everyone for their best wishes on the mat leave-it is a relief to not have to think about commute and day to day work things..but what on earth will I do with DD all day?We have two bumps and babes meetings planned in next week, (my original group from DD and the 07 edition I am organising for DD2) and a toddler group, but thats it..I just dont want her to be bored bless her as she has been used to being entertained at cm's..

o sorry about your bro Pebble too, what a rough day you have had..sending you a big cuddle..

My ankles have swelled up hugely today too, Abbylou-had ankle strap shoes on and they nearly cut my feet off..

scootermum · 19/04/2007 20:54

Now i know this has been explained probably ad infinitum, but what does the raspberry tea do?And the Arnica?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 19/04/2007 21:33

Scoot, the rasberry leaf tea is supposed to help get your uterous ready for labour, strengthen the muscles etc.... to make the contractions more efficient when they start. It is not an induction of labour apparently. Arnica is great for bruising, so really heps the healing of your nether regions after birth or your tummy after surgery I suppose. Very brief sorry, I don't know all the medical science bits that would be a TYg speciality. I do take Arnica after birth as I found it really good but I don't do the tea, Ewwwwwwwww, would do the tablets though if I knew how to get them here.

The elective iduction is no different to a normal necessasary late induction, the elective bit just means that they'll book me in for it from 39 weeks if I wan't to. However: my cervix must be showing the right signs of softening and ripening before they will consider it. H was 10 days late and M was induced 11 days late so apparently that is enough for my MW to say I could cut the waiting and book a day. It is drugs, the French are very much into cut the crap and get on with it. M's induction was 2.5hrs start to baby in arms. Personally it was great for me, but not for all. I have no views on it to be honest, whether it's right or wrong? childbirth is such an individual thing. I like to be organised and I don't DO pain and I'm very impatient so it suits me well.

OP posts:
Mrsjaffabiffa · 19/04/2007 22:12

I've just been nosing on the due April thread. Ohhhhhhhhh it's far too nail bitting and exciting for me. It has given me sweaty palms and made me feel very impatient. Geee I'm going to have to go AWOL once things start kicking off for us. I just won't be able to take the excitement.

toomanyprojects · 19/04/2007 22:16

hi to everyone - I introduced myself a couple of months back but life has been so hectic I never manage to keep up with you all. I'm due on 4th may but have today been given an induction date of 28th April as the consultant is worried the baby might be too big and get her shoulders struck (this happened with DD1 who was 8lb 10oz but not DS1 who was 9 lbs and just popped out! They were both very overdue and I was induced with syntocinon both times but was lucky enough to be able to feel to push. Funnily enough I think I might actually go into labour before then - hugely painful pressure down below and increasing contractions (which have stopped at the moment). Just want to get LO into next week as I'm co-ordinating an NCT sale 100 miles away on Saturday (family is driving down and hospital bag is coming too just in case!). Desperate to go as I'm addicted to them and anyway need loads of stuff as I sold everything we had before.

Good luck to everyone else playing the waiting game!

jellybellybump · 19/04/2007 22:20

Hello again everybody,
haven't had time to read the posts for the last couple of weeks, but will try later.

I've been on my mat leave for a week now and I must say that not working is something i can get used to. Just spending the day lazing around in the sun, bit of shopping, having afternoon sleeps. We all know that's going to change soon, but it's nice to make the most of it.

I'll have a look on the other link for the lunch on the 30th. I think i'll be able to join you all, but my mum's over for a week, so i might have to put her in a museum for a couple of hours.

Off to bed now, but probably will be back somewhere in the middle of night once insomnia kicks back in.

MKG · 20/04/2007 00:08

I thought Raspberry leaf tea softened the cervix. will research and get back to you.

Lwatkins · 20/04/2007 00:10

Oh dear fell asleep after dinner watching Only Fools and Horses and have just woken up! Bol**cks to it all! Am now wide awake lol.

Right feeling chirpier as have made plans for a girly day out tommorrow with a good friend of my course. Bless her she's coming all the way to get me and she'll bring me back on Saturday too. It's been a while since I did the whole 'girly sleepover' thing! Am very excited. It'll be a nice change of scenery as well. My campus is in the middle of nowhere and there's never anything to do so I'm stuck in - a lot!

Good news on my dad too, Doctors said his lung seems to have repaired itself (i.e. it's uncollapsed itself!) and he's allowed to go back to work. They put a camera thing down his throat the other day to check it all out, bless he was really scared about having it done. So he's been told he's ok to go back to work now which he is very happy about, but to take it easy. I do worry about him though, think he'll be better for going back though as he was getting bored at home on his own - bless.

Mrsjb - exciting isn't it. Am finding it hard to believe that this time next month I'll be almost ready to pop and become a mummy! Makes me feel good, but I honestly don't think I could do pregnancy again. Really don't enjoy it!

SOH hang on in there! Mathilda stay put!

MKG · 20/04/2007 00:15

apparently it does everything

LupinsBigLump · 20/04/2007 07:54

ShowOfHands · 20/04/2007 09:18

Morning all. My last day at work. I'd do a Mexican wave but I can't be arsed.

Can't wait for next week. Going to lie on the sofa, mainline Gaviscon and watch Pride and Prejudice.

Contractions eased off at about 4am this morning. Pressure's still there and had a small show this morning. I'm resigned to the fact that this is going to run and run. Haven't eaten for two days, so going to rectify that now with lots of fruit and litres of water.

Tired today but happier. I feel a bit fluey which might be lack of sleep and food. I'm glad I'm finishing today and not on May 4th as originally planned. I would not have made it.

Made the mistake of looking at birthdiaries.com last night. Interesting money shots of women pushing enormous babies out of them. Won't be looking again.

dejags · 20/04/2007 09:23

Sorry all, I havent had time to catch up as it is also MY LAST DAY!!!!!!

SOH - glad you are feeling better and LOL at mainlining gaviscon .

I too had plans to stay at work until the last but I just couldn't hold out another minute longer than the end of today. I have HUGE respect for women who can go on until the last day.

Baby still breech. So CS is looming, but I have come to terms with it. I now have the choice of when to have the CS - I could have it as early as 10th May at 38 weeks or leave until as late as 23rd May (day before my EDD). I am inclined to giver her as much time as possible to turn by herself.

For the moment, I am just looking forward to next week .

Bensonbluebird · 20/04/2007 09:50

Congratulations to all those who have finished or are finishing work. I'm so jealous.

Thanks for the advice on buggy boards Mrs JB and Westendwoman. Now I really don't know what to do. I think I'll get shopping on ebay and see what bargins I can find.

LG&T - it must have been nice to see a reasonable consultant and now you have a date to look forward to. My due date is the 11th and DS was punctual so there may be three babies arriving that day!

Lwatkins - I know exactly how you feel about not being able to muster the enthusiasm to complain, but it might be worth approaching your University's rector (if there is one?)A friend of mine is rector of Edinburgh University at the moment and lobbying on behalf of individual students is one of the things that he gets involved in.

MKG - I have seen advice not to take raspberry leaf early in pregnancy because it can be an abortificant. I have heard it is good for: iron levels, cramp (because of the manganese), as a uterine tonic and for reducing bleeding.

Better get my head down now if I ever want to finish work.

westendwoman · 20/04/2007 10:09

Dejags Have you thought of having moxibustion to turn yr breech baby. I had it at about 34 weeks with dd and she turned round within the week. It has to be done by an acupuncurist but doesn't involve any needles. Sorry to butt in with suggestions, may not be your thing but worth a try and probably better than a CS.

ShowOfHands · 20/04/2007 10:23

Aah lovely colleague just dropped into my office a playmat, baby swing, moses basket and stand and a bouncy chair. She's knitted too and we have some lovely little jackets and some summer dresses she 'couldn't resist'.

How lovely is she?

Mathilda's so lucky. If it weren't for very kind people- especially Lupins- she'd be at least naked and without a bed.

Pinkjenny · 20/04/2007 10:54

Been for my 35 week consultant appointment this morning. And lo and behold, we have finally established that this baby is breech. And has been since 26 weeks. I have to go back next week, and if she is still breech, they are going to try and manually turn her (which freaks me out a lot). If she still won't move, they'll book me in for a section at 39 weeks.

Does anyone have any tips on turning a lazy baby? She's definitely her mother's daughter.

Trying hard not to be cross about the fact that I called dh to tell him at 9.52am, and he still hasn't returned my call. He'll have to get his a**e into gear.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 20/04/2007 11:34

hello all.

Glad you are still with us and feeling a little brighter SOH and yey for finishing work today, how lovely. Nice lady with gifts.

Pink jenny and djags, sorry to hear your bubs are still persistent on seeing the world the "right" (wrong) way round.. They are fairly sensible really, babies are a bit silly sitting on their heads if you ask me. There is still a little time. Fingers crossed for you both. Pink jenny, if you do a search under find messages I'm sure there will be loads of threads on turning baby tips, I ran one about 6 weeks ago and had a huge response.

So pleased Arlen is doing well Lupins. He sounds like a real star.
