Hi everyone, I'm almost 10 weeks gone with number 2 and I'm feeling down eight rotten. Toddler will be 3 in Feb, I'm exhausted, full on nausea / occasional sickness with a husband who is getting increasingly frustrated with my uselessness. He's not exactly overjoyed with the idea of another child and I forgot just how tiring / rubbish the 1st trimester is.
No other point to my post other than to rant at people who understand as well as saying hi!

Alice0906 · 13/11/2017 17:49

2.5 hours :o

Mine took about 45 minutes. I wasn't very impressed tbh. They got me to give them a urine sample when I arrived. They checked that, took my blood pressure, weight and height. Then we went in to see the midwife. She asked some questions and filled in lots of things on the computer. Then I got sent to a different room for blood to be taken. By the time that was done the midwife had finished on the computer, printed it all off and put it in my notes. I got given my notes and bounty pack and sent on my way.

She went through a few things with me, but skipped loads. I read the notes afterwards. There are ticklists of things we "discussed" that she didn't even mention. She gave me a load of leaflets along with my notes, I think if she gave me any written info on something she just ticked it off. What really bothers me is the stuff in my notes that is just plain wrong. My mobile number is wrong, dh's surname is spelled wrong, his date of birth is a day out. She put down that I don't drink (I do, just very little - I looked at the evidence and made an educated decision) and that I started taking folic acid when I found out I was pregnant (it was actually when we started ttc), I could continue... It's not that any one mistake is likely to cause problems, just that there are so many of them and she didn't take the time to do it properly. I was the first appointment of the day, it wasn't like she was running late and trying to catch up. I admit to being a bit of a perfectionist, so things like this drive me mad.

I also think it's pretty bad that her idea of taking consent is to turn to the right page of the notes and say "sign here". I hope that's not what she does with everyone, although I suspect it probably is. I understand what I'm signing, I have a medical background and read everything they send me, but not everyone will.

I've been given a consultant appointment, but I'm not entirely sure why. Does everyone get them here? Is it my age (35)? Or my history of depression? I think she did a perinatal mental health referal, but I'm not entirely sure.

The joys of Newham. :/ Just hoping the community midwife I see at 16 weeks is a bit more thorough!

AIBU to consider plastering my notes with post its with corrections on?!

timeisnotaline · 13/11/2017 18:07

Id call and complain I think Alice. She could miss something important with someone, it sounds like if there were anything important she'd miss it!
Nickla that sounds pretty miserable. Hope your dh comes on board- I'm pretty sure he contributed unless the condom broke so not sure how he gets away with being upset!

Hanz88 · 13/11/2017 19:05

@alice i'd complain too, you've attended the appointment and given theinformation..the least she could do is write it down correctly. I'd be tempted to post in note the form and ask for a corrected version for your notes. Did you go to your booking in apts alone or did DHS / partners go with you? Here's hoping it's not 2.5hrs...work will def ask questions! Grin

BubbleFrog · 13/11/2017 19:16

Eek @alice! Newham was the closest for me but have gone somewhere else because I know it pretty well and its awful :( I was hospitalised there for hypermesis last week and it was like a third world country!

On the plus side, people who have had straightforward births in the birth centre say it is nice !

Alice0906 · 13/11/2017 19:52

@hanz
Booking appts are scheduled to take 1.5 hrs here. If anything I'd imagine Newham leaves longer than average because English isn't the first language of a lot of people here and everything takes much longer with a translator. Hopefully they won't keep you too long and work will be fine!

DH came with me, so I know it's not just me! I was looking at the notes and saying "did she mention x?" And he remembers the same as me.

She crossed out entire pages of the notes and wrote "see EPR" and included a printout, so it should be fairly easy for someone else to correct, I just don't want to get people's backs up by marching in there with a ton of corrections.

To her credit, I think she was prioritising the more important things. She checked whether I smoked, whether dh and I were blood relations, told me to monitor baby movements once they start and go to the early pregnancy unit if they reduce. She told me to get form FW8 (I think that's what it was called) from my GP and sorted out my appointments.

The other details are there for a reason though, so it is worrying that at some point, for someone, something important might get missed.

I'm not very good at complaining - a long rant when I can hide behind my keyboard is more my style. I'll have to think about that one.
I might write some post-its though. :)

Alice0906 · 13/11/2017 20:07

Oh no @bubblefrog being hospitalised for hyperemesis sounds horrible, especially at Newham. :'(
We live in Stratford, so could probably have requested Whipps or Homerton, but I'm not sure if they're any better and Newham is closest, so we're there. Fingers crossed for a straightforward birth! The birthing centre looks ok in the pictures online, we haven't been for a tour yet. Still a bit scared of actually giving birth tbh.

Are you doing the Newham antenatal classes? Any idea whether they're any good? The midwife got me to sign the form to do them, but I have no information at all so far.

Betsy1988 · 13/11/2017 22:18

Does anyone have any experience of shoreditch maternity / Homerton hospital? Xxx

ArkadyRose · 14/11/2017 12:48

Mine was 2.5 hours because this is my 10th pregnancy so we had to go through the 6 m/cs and cover all of that, plus I'm 44 so we had to go more in-depth on certain things. It always seems to take ages at Whipps Cross though.

I had a follow-on scan this morning and I'm now at 7w3d (which makes the EDD 30th June rather than the 19th) and the heartbeat was clearly visible, which is a relief! Now, fingers crossed it continues OK.

ArkadyRose · 14/11/2017 14:53

DH and I just broke the news to DD3 that she's going to be a big sister, and as I'd suspected, she'd already guessed - she'd noticed how sick I've been and she couldn't think of any other reason why I'd be having a scan. She's taken it pretty well and she knows that there's a chance it might not work out, given how many m/cs I've had, but I think she's glad we finally told her. Smile

RockinRobinTweets · 14/11/2017 17:37

That’s lovely Arkady - I’m nervous to tell ds as it’ll be a big gap, he’s very used to being an only but I’ve tried to sew the seed.

I’m having a nervy day today. The scan at 8 weeks seems a distant memory and I’m feeling so much better the something must be wrong.

Roll on next Thursday and 12 week scan!

brogueish · 14/11/2017 19:27

Hello, just wanted to post and say hello. Congratulations to you all on your pregnancies Flowers

I think I'm 9+5 (based on early scan measurements), booking in appt is this Friday and NHS scan in a couple of weeks. I've had several mcs and fertility problems and we'd reconciled ourselves to not being able to have children, so it's taken a little while to get my head around actually being pg again! Still trying not to get my hopes up until at least the 12 week scan.

...BUT I am bloated, exhausted and have afternoon nausea so I can't pretend nothing's happening! The past few days my balance has been a bit off, is that normal? Will the bloating go away? How is everyone coping with work? I haven't told anyone except DH so it's lovely to be able to "speak" openly about it :)

brogueish · 14/11/2017 19:29

By the way, thanks so much for the hugely informative posts about the booking in appt - they've all been so helpful. Any qs I'd had about that have been answered Star

Youzanne · 14/11/2017 20:00

Hi ladies,

Is anyone else going to St George’s hosp in Tooting? X

Cookie1831 · 14/11/2017 20:09

Hi ladies am approx 8 weeks in the next couple of days and so bloated it's my 3rd and honestly think I need maternity clothes already nothing fits!!! I have gained only a couple of pounds but look like I have a balloon belly arggggghh

Lorz80 · 14/11/2017 20:43

@Youzanne we had the choice of St. George’s or Kingston and ended up going with Kingston. When I googled them both there were similar positive/negative stories about both and Kingston was closer and easier to get to. To make life even easier for us they run some maternity clinics at Raynes Park which is even easier.

Mummyloves09 · 15/11/2017 00:18

Hey ladies,
Welcome new comers.
I have experienced bloating so I order maternity workers.
I have also been experiencing abdomenal pains but bearing in mind I'm 11w + 1d maybe this is normal as the bean is suppose to be having a growth spurt these next 3 weeks.
Is anyone under king college?

ElizabethLemon · 15/11/2017 13:11

I've just ordered some maternity tights as there's not much chance of me fitting in my current ones!

Mummy I'm at KCH. Had my last dc there too and was under consultant care towards the end of my pregnancy and it was great. My consultant was lovely, I actually missed him a bit after my son was born!

Hanz88 · 15/11/2017 14:06

@mummy I'm 11+ 3 and have had a bit of discomfort/ pain this week too, I think it's pretty normal.

Had my booking in apt this morning, took 45mins. Those of you who said it's pretty underwhelming weren't wrong haha! 2 days to go to first scan. Hope you are all ok Smile

PisforPeter · 15/11/2017 14:33

I’ve just had my Harmony test this morning. Measuring 10 +
5 so edd 8th June. I’m so excited, this will be my 3rd and last. Feeling really sleepy today, probably because I had a big fry up to celebrate a little heart beat on the scan!

Newbietwo · 15/11/2017 14:47

Glad I’m not the only one at 11 weeks feeling a bit uncomfortable. Had no cramps etc really so far but they’ve been quite strong today. Was nearly panicking before I came on and read this. I hope it’s just my uterus starting to move up and out of pelvis (if that happens soon!!) and tummy muscles being stretched already.

My nausea has been back since the weekend - better when I eat otherwise constant and waves of wondering if I’ll be sick. I know this is nothing compared to lots though. Thinking of everyone who is still feeling rubbish with sickness/ tiredness.

I should be at Kings but booked in with St Thomas again. We moved mid pregnancy last time and kept care there as only just out of area.

Mintykins4 · 15/11/2017 17:31

@Alice0906 Sorry you’ve had a bit of a mare with your booking in. I’d definitely complain. Haven’t had mine yet but in my area they come to your house, so you have urine, bloods and weight with the 12 week scan. I got referred to the specialist mental health midwife last time due to history of depression, very fortunate to have this service, I think if they don’t in your area you get the consultant but it’s nothing to worry about. I actually really enjoyed my specialist appointments last time, she was so lovely and supportive.

Mumof3cheeky · 15/11/2017 18:02

@PisforPeter I have had the panorama test done a week ago and nervously waiting a txt so I can give them a call. Can I ask how you decided between panorama and harmony?

Bunnyears85 · 15/11/2017 22:54

11 weeks today and also having crampiness. But mainly just sick sick sick. Just horrid, trying to keep positive but very difficult when I feel so awful all of the time - There is absolutely no let up. I snapped at my toddler today and felt so so guilty for hours afterwards - He’d forgotten about it after 30 seconds! I hope you all sleep well tonight x
