Ladies,

Welcome to thread 2 for babies due in May 2018.

Looking forward to early scans, seeing the first flutters and progressing further into the first trimester.

8 week appointment was lots of questions and forms last time (still waiting for mine this time round!). I was then given the number to call and book my 12 week scan myself. DH came to both scans and one of the GP appointments. Not worth him coming to the others, although I did record the heartbeat when they listened for it.

Jaronior · 19/09/2017 21:12

Thank you @MotherOfBoy Smile

willisurvive2under2 · 19/09/2017 22:33

The midwife phoned me back today, bless her. She remembered me from last year and was so thoughtful, asked me which days were best for me for appointments, I'm so glad I get her again! I remember last time (not knowing anything about the system as I grew up abroad) that I was disappointed when I learnt she wouldn't be at the birth, but I would just get whoever is on shift at the hospital. She was so nice I wanted to cry. She said the only way to almost guarantee her presence would be to book her for a home birth, but the thought of that terrifies me - I ended up needing intervention, I was so glad to be in the MLU (which where I live is part of the hospital, so when we needed the doctors they just wheeled me over).

Booking appointment is on 13 October when I'll be 9 weeks all going well.

timeisnotaline · 20/09/2017 00:37

Great news jaronia. I'm also Australian treehouse, had my first baby in London 2 and a bit years ago though. Would love to have a baby in australia, but it won't be this one!

InRainbows · 20/09/2017 06:02

Do they listen to the heartbeat at your booking appointment? I have to take DH as blood tests make me faint!

scoutcat · 20/09/2017 06:22

@InRainbows I'm the same, definitely taking my partner to my booking in appointment! I cannot stand blood tests and act really ridiculous when I need one. 😂

InRainbows · 20/09/2017 06:26

Blerghh even talking about it creeps me out 🙉

smu06set · 20/09/2017 06:52

The nurses at our doctors surgery can't ever get blood out of me, I end up with large bruises and having to go to the hospital. Had forgotten that fun!

tiramisualwaystiramisu · 20/09/2017 07:09

I got to hear the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment, but could see it at the 12 week scan InRainbows - think baby is too small for the stethoscope at the 8 week. It's all about you for that one - height, weight, blood, wee and sooo many questions

LadyPug · 20/09/2017 07:44

Another one here who passes out at blood. Although last time DH didn't come but I walked in and said "right take the blood first!!!" So she did that then I lay on the couch answering her questions to make sure I didn't faint! Haha

LadyPug · 20/09/2017 08:04

Ps I had my first major freak out last night. Couldn't sleep so was lying in bed at 1am just thinking omg I can't believe I'm pregnant, how am I going to handle two? I can't go through a traumatic birth again, what if I melt down throughout the entire pregnancy? What if I lose my mind and get sectioned? (Very extreme fear I realise!) Feeling better this morning so probably the sleep deprivation didn't help but I totally wasn't handling life last night!

mrscordy · 20/09/2017 08:32

Wow just catching up on the past 2 days on the thread! Nice there's so many other ladies willing to go through this together Smile.

@redpanda25 I'm petrified it could be twins, my stomach is so big already and I think I'm only 8 weeks... Maybe 9 at most, still not sure of my dates!

@tiramisu did they sort your booking appointment? Sounds terrible.

I have my booking appointment in half an hour. Quite nervous as I have a lot of things I'd like to cover and don't want to be dismissed, it's all new to me and I really want to have a good relationship with my midwife.

Re: tiredness, I'm napping for 1-2 hours a day and have a 6 hour exam in 6 days not sure how I'm going to cope! Confused

Dorotha · 20/09/2017 09:17

@mummykezza yay!! Finally someone else from London!! I also have a son who's 3.

Here midwives don't take blood - you need to attend hospital for that and they have a factory style conveyer belt of blood takers. I hate it but had to do it so many times last time that I'm thinking I'm getting better although my veins were totally f-ed in the end (they had to do take it from my hands in the end).

Dorotha · 20/09/2017 09:19

@LadyPug I would strongly suggest going for a brief and perhaps some sort of counselling. PTSD is serious stuff and you need to work on it before your next labour because fear makes it worse.

Have you considered hypnobirthing?

treehousemama · 20/09/2017 09:34

I'm 6 +6 today and started freaking out that I wasn't nauseous this morning and that I was going to have another miscarriage (only other pregnancy was a mmc at 7+5, found out at 12 week scan) so rang the EPAU at Burnley and asked about the possibility of an earlier scan, and she booked me in for Friday morning! It was too easy and I feel a bit better now (but am still willing myself to get the chucks!!!).

LadyPug · 20/09/2017 09:36

Thanks Dorotha yes, I'm tocophobic so I saw a therapist last time and I'm seeing one this time (Sessions don't start for 2 weeks!) and I did hypnobirthing last time and will do again this time. I really didn't want a c section last time and it was under awful scary circumstances so I know at least this time it would be elective but still terrified :-(

MotherOfBoy · 20/09/2017 10:24

lady I too go through panic phases of how will I cope with two. How will I look after a toddler when I've had no sleep etc.

Feeling awfully nauseous this morning. Thinks it's cos I'm tired. Barely slept last night. We have discovered our new house has fleas, presumably from previous owners dog. We don't have any pets! They are everywhere had a complete freak out finding one in my bed this morning. Off to vets to get some super duper spray today then going to fumigate at the weekend. Seriously, pregnant woman does not need this stress! Couldn't sleep last night for thinking of the blasted things! And am covered in bites. Yuk. Sure that's not helpin my nausea either!

Xjo1992x · 20/09/2017 10:35

Omg there is so much going on on this thread I can't keep up Confused
Gonna be a bit more attentive from now haha

Doublechocolatetiffin · 20/09/2017 11:49

Just checking in briefly to the new thread so I don't lose you all. I need to catch up on everything!

LadyPug · 20/09/2017 11:56

So glad it's not just me mother I had such a bad day with my DD yesterday that I'm thinking how do people cope with two?!

Whatamuddleduck · 20/09/2017 14:24

I had my booking in appointment today. Was really positive and on the birth unit as that's where the community team is based. They were really positive, encouraged me to call if needed and showed me the post natal rooms. They encourage mums to stay in for a few days for support if needed or to pop in if unsure of anything. So far I'm really glad I choose that team- hope it carries on that way!

Chipsahoy · 20/09/2017 14:54

Not heard anything from midwives yet. 7 weeks today and feel less sick today. Managed to eat lunch and clean for first time in a week.

You'll be fine with two. Going from 0 to 1 is far harder than 1 to 2. Baby just slots into your routine with your toddler.

LadyPug · 20/09/2017 15:01

That's good to know chips and that sounds good duck I haven't had booking in confirmed yet but still such early days. When are the earliest on this thread having 12 week scans? Good to find out who's up first?

MotherOfBoy · 20/09/2017 15:08

That's reassuring chips!

I have felt sick as a dog and exhausted all day today. Pretty much no let up from the nausea. First day when it has been constant. Can't focus on work just want to go and curl up in a ball...

Saw the GP today bit of a waste of appointment time. All she did was my blood pressure and weight, gave me a leaflet and said to call the midwives 😂 Phoned midwives and now waiting a call back with date and time for booking and 12w scan. Will be 6 weeks tomorrow. Go away nausea!

Catndogmummy · 20/09/2017 15:16

@LadyPug I've got my 12 week scan on the Friday 13th Oct! Not sure Fri 13th is the best date for it but hey no!
