We're pretty early but thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone else is here already.

I'm 4+1, apparently due around 2 May. Would be great to have some company :). Already obsessing over every little thing. The next 8 weeks are going to drag!

Hey everyone,

Can I join? Just got my bfp today!!

CaptainsCat · 12/09/2017 14:44

I had a doula last time, she was amazing! I'd wanted as 'natural' a labour and birth as possible, but I ended up being induced with constant monitoring, and she really helped me keep things as close as possible to my wishes. The midwives I had were also very good with this!

I would definitely recommend hiring a doula if you have any anxiety about giving birth. I was terrified before I had my first baby, now it doesn't phase me, and I'm sure it's thanks to my doula! To save money you can choose a doula who is still in training - they have to attend a certain number of births before they can qualify I think.

PhoenixDown · 12/09/2017 16:04

Hello ladies, room for another one? Faintest of faint squinters today, rushed to Boots for FRER and got a faint but definite line.

EDD currently 20th May, but I think I ovulated late so will likely be later.

I'm in utter shock. I have been pregnant twice (1 MC and my 5yo daughter). Both times took 6-8 cycles. This time I had my coil taken out on 21st August. Shock Thought with being 5 years older It's probably take longer!

I've NO symptoms at all which is worrying me a bit, but still very early days I guess.

(Disclosure - I'm a midwife, I hope a nice one Blush and it really saddens me to read these stories. You should always be treated with respect and care and be listened to. I hope your experiences are better this time).

Whatamuddleduck · 12/09/2017 16:40

I had my 7 week scan this afternoon. There's actually a little blob with a heart beat in there! Such a relief to see it's the right size and amazing little heart beat. I was so anxious as I'm 7 weeks today and haven't really had much in the way of symptoms, but so far so good!

Welcome new NGOs!
Back to knicker watch!

MammaBear18 · 12/09/2017 16:52

Aww MuddleDuck how lovely to see a heartbeat!

sophherts · 12/09/2017 17:04

Has anyone had any spotting?

I'm now 4+4 and had a bit of pink spotting earlier and then some more red streaked discharge (sorry if TMI) an hour later. My back and belly feel a bit crampy. I called NHS 111 and she said to go to an urgent care walk in centre and to take any pads that I'd filled but it isn't that bad to need a pad.

Freaking out as it's my first pregnancy!

Kirstipops · 12/09/2017 17:18

Hi all, I got my bfp on Thursday, due May 18th :) I have a nearly-3 yo daughter already and although this little bean was planned it took me and my hub aback a little as we thought it'd take a little longer at the grand old age of 36 and 37 Blush. I suppose there is the fear of the unknown too, at how our lives will change and how pregnancy will evolve etc.
No symptoms so far other than tender boobs and exhaustion, as I remember the nausea didn't kick in til I was about 8-9ish weeks.
(I was no never actually sick, I just ate and the feeling went away!!)

Sophherts I had a couple of bleeds with my daughter, it's worth going to get checked out just for your own piece of mind. With me I had an irritated cervix, unexplained but

Kirstipops · 12/09/2017 17:29

Oops - to be continued - unexplained but seemingly quite common?

JuniUmiZoomi · 12/09/2017 17:36

I've had some bleeding today - had some today which upset me a bit. The Dr at the EPU said it's quite common and can be something to do with cervical inside cells being on the outside. She offered to take a look but after dildocam I'd had enough rummaging up there for one day.

Re birth, I'll be going for an elective c-section this time. Hopefully with a doula too. My DD's birth was not great and ended in emergency section and then all sorts of complications for both of us. So aiming to avoid at least some of those issues this time!

AndBabyMakes5 · 12/09/2017 18:25

I had a rubbish birth experience with DD1 (looonnng, failed epidural and I ended up badly tearing and being stitched in theatre). DD2 was completely different, my labour was only 1 hour 46 minutes and I had no pain relief at all. Was an amazing experience, hoping for another of those please!! Hoping for a water birth if I can, as I didn't get that last time and I really wanted one.

Gyoza · 12/09/2017 18:49

Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy book? I'm a bit scared of buying one so early incase anything goes wrong but would like to atart reading things away from my laptop/phone screen

HerSymphonyAndSong · 12/09/2017 19:24

I have borrowed the rough guide to pregnancy from the library and it seems good, though I have nothing to judge it against!

MammaBear18 · 12/09/2017 19:28

Gyoza I read the classic What to Expect When You're Expecting and found it very informative.

I'm also reading Expecting Better, which is like a myth-busting version of the above with a bit more number-filled approach.

MegsMog · 12/09/2017 19:35

Another vote for Expecting Better - it's such a sensible, evidence-based look at all the do's and dont's surrounding pregnancy.

I also huuuuugely recommend The Positive Birth Book (good for all types of birth, including c-section and inductions, it's not just pushing natural birth). I cannot speak too highly of it - I think it should be prescribed on the NHS! If you buy one book I would personally buy that one.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 12/09/2017 19:38

Ooh yes I also have expecting better on my kindle, it is v good

Wiggleyfingers · 12/09/2017 19:58

Hi everyone! I'm a bit late to the party...got a bit confused with the other antenatal/Facebook group but I think here suits me better!
I'm 4+4 today, due date 18th May.
Found out at 3+3 so it feels like it's been forever! Taking each day as it comes as I'm very anxious too.

Chipsahoy · 12/09/2017 20:30

Hi all.
I'm 6 weeks tomorrow and feeling pretty awful. All day nausea, tho not sick yet, boobs sore and gone up a size and a lots of cramps. Similar to previous pregnancies so taking as a good sign.

I had an awful birth with my first, hospital just left me to it as I was low risk. He was back to back and they gave me no pain relief. Labour was almost 12hrs.
Dc2 was born within an hr from first contraction..on my bed with a paramedic and ambulance crew on attendance. So all a bit scary.

This time around I want a home birth. Quite excited at the proper. Managed two births with no pain relief at all, may as well stay home and do it my way.

Congrats to newbies.

Anyone else feeling nauseous yet?

Hairgician · 12/09/2017 21:09

Feeling rubbish this week myself. Sickness really kicking in . Seems to get worse in evening's. Proper retchy puking too. Last time round I burst capillaries in my face and my eye from being sick so much. I foresee a repeat of that. Really hormonal today too. Ds starts preschool tomorrow which isn't helping. Spent most of today in tears. Too sick to face chocolate.

Jaronior · 12/09/2017 21:13

Not gonna lie, you're all worrying me a bit. I'm 5w 5d and I've only had waves of nausea. Yesterday was the worst, today has been (worryingly) better- but still there. I have a history of early mc so I analyse everything. I'm pretty sure with my successful pregnancies that I was far more nauseous by now 😰

RedPanda25 · 12/09/2017 21:24

Hello newbies! So exciting to have more lovely ladies to add to our group.

My all day nausea has kicked in now, started on Sunday when I was just about 6 weeks. I was way sicker with my miscarriage than this pregnancy and with my DS so please try not to worry @Jaronior, although I can hardly talk with my obsessive knicker watching!

MooChops89 · 12/09/2017 21:25

Hi @PhoenixDown - fellow midwife!

piglet81 · 12/09/2017 21:30

@Jaronior, I had no sickness at all with my son, so it's not necessarily a bad sign.

piglet81 · 12/09/2017 21:31

How handy having two midwives on this thread! Will try not to bombard you with annoying questions! Wink

PhoenixDown · 12/09/2017 21:44

Oh cool @MooChops89! Grin hello there! I wasn't a midwife when I had DD, had a much easier job then so I'm not looking forward to the exhaustion when on nights etc but will manage somehow..... I hope Confused

Re nausea, I'm still quite early (5 weeks by LMP but probably more like 4 from ovulation), just having mild nausea now and again but very mild. Last time I felt sick up until 14 weeks but was never actually sick.
