God, you don't want to get on a controversial topic on here do you (another thread - that was a mistake. Now I remember why I don't usually have an opinion on ANYTHING).
Am not feeling better. Shall go back to bed ASAP (and hopefully JC will visit my dreams to make me better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Will have to visit parents though so they don't think something bad happened.

doggus · 29/03/2007 18:15

Hi all, can't believe I have been offline ill and missed all the drama! I am loving the new thread title, and integrating twunt into my life slowly...

I went to a local baby shop with dh today and we were completely overwhelmed with what bloody pissing pushchair/pram thing to buy. I thought I wanted a Stokke but it is really quite heavy. Can I ask you experienced mums - do I really need a carrycot system? Or can I get away with a sit up type pushchair from birth? They are so much lighter and dh has volunteered to have a Baby Bjorn thing a lot of the time. I know this is really dull compared with Rampant Rabbits so I offer you my favourite sex toy site instead - here . Be aware that if you sign up to their email news you gets lots of mail shouting 'THREE FOR TWO on Butt Plugs' so don't use your work address!

The site is down at the moment, sorry, bookmark it instead!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 18:20

Lol mummyjx! For future reference do not get involved in threads about bfing (unless you feed your child for 3 years), weaning (esp if, like me, you weaned your child at 4 months) or p&t parking (I guess you just found that out!!). It's hilarious! People get so up themselves about other people's decisions! There was a thread last night about whether a worried mother should take her poorly baby to a&e. That ended in an arguement. The poor woman, I felt really sorry for her!

mummyjx · 29/03/2007 18:25

I did indeed. Have to keep watching though to see what other rude comments I generate!
There's no wonder I lust after JC - I am just "one of those people". Life was so much easier when I was only on diet threads (no doubt I'll be back there soon...)
Maybe I need to investigate these "life enhancing devices" and then there'll be a focal point in my life!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 18:26

Hi doggus, hope you are feeling better! Good site, I'll remember not to put my email in, I don't think I really need 3 butt plugs!

I would go for a carrycot myself. I never had one with my dd and I really wish I did. It is so nice to have the baby lying flat and facing you, even if it only for a few months. You can get quite lightweight buggies with a removeable carrycot, like the Quinny Buzz or Micralite. Then you've got a great buggy to use for a good few years. However, if you are planning on having another quite soon then get a p&t! It is such a minefield, I'm so glad I've got mine already!

mummyjx · 29/03/2007 18:35

Just as a matter of interest, how were all such controversial subjects (those you mentioned and all the others) approached before mumsnet? Or did everyone just not bother?

foxybrown · 29/03/2007 18:37

oh, Holly, I have to disagree with you here! If you get one of the travel systems you have to have somewhere to keep the carrycot/carseat whatever. I had a travel system at first but found it cumbersome and heavy - luckily I borrowed it so could give it back. I agree its lovely to have the baby facing you, but that's only for the first few months then they want to see whats going on!

Personally I'd go for something like a Maclaren buggy (simple, from birth). Especially as its the summer, so less need for them to be snuggled up. It will last you for years and is an umbrella fold, light and so easy to cart around. And easy to get serviced too.

Whatever you get, make sure it fits in the boot of your car. And make sure you don't have to piss around taking wheels off as you do with some 3 wheelers.

But having said all that, I've been buggering around with various double buggies for years so a simple single really appeals to me!

foxybrown · 29/03/2007 18:39

all controversial bitching and sniping was contained in the cliquey playground groups before Mumsnet!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 18:40

Shall we argue foxy...let's have a fight!!

Only joking!

doggus · 29/03/2007 18:41

Dear Holly and Foxy - thank you very much for the feedback, what I need to check though is that there is no inherent HARM in not lying the child on its back, is there? I mean, before the neck muscles are developed?

PS dh has looked over my shoulder and said 'You know people called Holly and Foxy? I think I've seen a film with them in....'. Just have to hope he doesn't scroll down while I am in the loo....

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 18:46

You will need a pushchair that reclines fully for the first few months as you can harm their neck muscles when they are upright. Most small strollers recline fully, so that's not a problem.

I got an offer to be in one of "those films" once! I turned it down! Apparently I had the right look (not now though )! I didn't know whether to be flattered or offended!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 18:49

Foxy, do you use disposable nappies? I use disposables with my dd, but I am thinking that I may use cloth with new lo. Just want to know how much hassle they are. I am quite a lazy person and don't know if I can be arsed!

foxybrown · 29/03/2007 18:52

PMSL Doggus!! Oh lord! I'd be mortified if my TP knew about our conversations! (Obviously its OK for the rest of the world!)

You can buy all sorts of accessories such as head rests and whatnot to support newborns. Buggies and pushchairs tend not to be flat like carrycots, or those old big prams (I love those, but massively impractical). Silver thingys. With big wheels.

Oooh, Holly! You dark horse you! I KNEW you were glam!

Whats Mummyjx been up to then? Causing trouble on parking threads?

Daisybump · 29/03/2007 18:55

Gone are the days when MN was full of lonely confused mums looking for someone to talk to and get a bit of advice from.....it's now all teeth and nails and everyone having a pop at each other ....I think I might start a new thread..."Am I being unreasonable to hate threads that start "Am I being Unreasonable?...."
Lets all on here be touchy, feely and huggy and ignore all those silly people who have nothing better to do than attack someone for daring to express an opinion.....or think up a witty title for their thread . Ooh is that too opinionated?
Don't let them get to you mummyjx...they'll be hardhatting someone else soon enough.

foxybrown · 29/03/2007 18:56

I always wanted to, and wished I had right at the beginning - told myself I'd use disposables for the first few weeks and then move to reusables, but there is no going back. I didn't have the money at the time for the initial outlay.

Anyway, now I'm onto number 4 my conscience pricks occasionally and I wish I had. But I didn't. So yes, am using disposables and yes, I am entirely responsible for a huge amount of landfill. Am not proud of it.

My friend uses a nappy service, she leaves the pooey nappies in a bin by the door and once a week they pick them up and leave clean ones. If I were to do it, that's the way I'd go!

But I'm not going to.

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 18:58

I'm not glam, trust me! I think it was the job I was doing at the time and what I used to wear doing it! Now I'm lucky if I manage to put mascara on and a clean top!

foxybrown · 29/03/2007 19:01

tell us holly! tell us!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 19:01

No I don't think I will either! The nappy collection thing is a great idea, but I think it's quite expensive and I don't fancy the idea of having someone else's nappies! I have some Kushies which we use in nappy emergencies, but they are so bulky that poor dd can't walk properly in them and her trousers don't fit over them!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 19:01

It wasn't bad or anything! Have you ever been to a Jumpin Jaks? Doggus, you must have, there's one in Bournemouth.

Daisybump · 29/03/2007 19:02

Just caught up with the last few posts....Holly I'm sure there's a market out there for pg women in those films...after all it takes all sorts. DH is always trying to persuade me to get my kit off for the camera...he's a keen amatuer photograpgher (usually landscapes) and thinks we can make a bit of money selling naked pg ladies on the wibbly wobbly (def. in my case) web...bless him (she says through gritted teeth)
Holly...Mystic Red Ranger says Hello....think you've got a bit of a fan here...!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 19:03

There may be a market for pg women, but not pg women with stretchmarks and saggy boobs!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 19:04

Hi Mystic Red Ranger!!

tribpot · 29/03/2007 19:06

Ladies - a 2005 Junie here. We accidentally caused a major controversy on one of our antenatal threads and it was really horrible for a few days but after that things returned to normal and we focused our attentions on who could sample the most chocolate eggs in the run-up to Easter.

Best of luck to you all - can't believe our little Junie babies are nearly 2!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 29/03/2007 19:18

Hi tribpot! What was your thread title? Some people have nothing better to do than get on their high horses about nothing in particular! My little baby is a May 2005 girl! I can't believe she's nearly 2 either!

mummyjx · 29/03/2007 19:51

Tell you what, the debate of disposable v cloth sounds like it might be "one of those subjects"! (for those who are daft enough to voice their opinion). I like the idea of virtual hugs and general niceness, so I'll be sticking with you for now (I really thought thats what mumsnet was about, not question time without Paxman - don't fancy him!). I use disposable and have since the attempt of the HCA on the maternity ward when I had DS1 and she couldn't make a cloth one stay on either!
Must wash dirty children...
