Oh, and I had an emergency C-section in the end with DS, with full spinal. But I was never a Jersey Cow type, I must admit (though I also must have had enough, I guess, as DS grew just fine)

AngeG · 25/03/2007 20:38

Sorry got waylaid part way through that post. Mine was emergency section last time and was a Spinal...I think. Like I said, my milk still came in on day 3ish, although I was hooked up to one of those lovely daisy cow machines four hourly from the afternoon after Jake was born.

mammyjo · 25/03/2007 20:38

I had an epidural and ventouse delivery last time and my milk was plentiful! Did stop BF at 5 weeks due to short supply and very demanding ds but that was due to my total lack of appetite and not looking after myself at all well. Dont think it was down to epidural or assisted delivery. Wasnt too great post ds and lost 3.5 stones in 3 weeks after having him which was not good at all. Sounds great I know, but not for milk and general well being! What is the BF book you were talking about?

babysopiniontakesover · 25/03/2007 20:38

I agree with you bugmum on the "confusion2 part. Mine, for the short time that I breastfed seemed to be happy to got to bottle and then back to BF, it was milk flow that was the problem, and he never ever seemed to be "full".

WestCountryLass · 25/03/2007 20:39

Evening ladies! Sorry for keeping you on tenterhooks but with DS and DD to entertain, and now new DB , I only usually log-on of an evening. Thanks for all the lovely messages happy tears Anyway, without further ado, the story thus far...

As you know I lost my mucus plug a week ago last Wednesday and had two bouts of false labour this week. On Friday night I had regular contractions but they stopped dead at 4am. I spent yesterday hobbling around in some discomfort what with the polish induced groin strain and frequent tightenings.

Once the kids were in bed I timed the contractions and they went from 6 mins to 4.5 mins apart and lasting longer and stronger in a couple of hours. Ellie fortunately twisted my arm about calling the midwife and she came out to see me at 11.15pm and I was only 3cms dilated but everything else was favourable.

At 2pm I was 6cms and I decided to call my friend as DD woke up, knew something was going on and would not settle. So my friend arrives and I am not sure if that was my cue to get on with the task in hand as an hour later, at 4.05 (clocks went forward), DB boy made his appearance.

One minute I was walking around, the next I was on the sofa sucking on the gas and air like a pro and the next I dramatically threw myself off the sofa on to all fours and 3 minutes later DS arrived

The 2nd midwife didn't even make it until the placenta had been delivered We did have a hairy moment as my waters did not break until he was being born and there was meconium present but the midwife examined me and said there was no point calling an ambulance as they wouldn't get there in time.

DB was given to DH as I was shaking and DD came in as soon as the placenta was delivered (no stitches or anything!) and then DH made me a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich as I was starving! My friend gave me a bath and by 6am the midwives had gone and we were tucked up in bed. All very civilised

I woke up a couple of hours later and could hear DS chattering away so I took DB in to meet him and said "look, the baby is here, it's a boy" and he said "I know, I went in your room and saw him, he is lovely", bless his heart. The kids have been as good as gold all day, love them.

DB has not got a name yet though, dilemmas, dilemmas. I really want to call him Gabriel James but DH is unconvinced for all the obvious reasons so I am going to have to work on him...

So that is where we are at, oh happy days So who is next I wonder?

CaptainDippy · 25/03/2007 20:41

Don't let that happen again Mammyjo >

babysopiniontakesover · 25/03/2007 20:41

Mammyjo my god 3.5 stone in 3 weeks I could do with some of that. I know what you mean aswell about not looking after yourself, cos that was me all over. I was like, is the baby fed/clean/happy and sod all else mattered which is stupid really. I never slept/eat/drank/hardly washed come to think of it I don't think??????? (I don't usually smell BTW!!!!)

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 25/03/2007 20:43

Hiya loves. Hope everyone is ok.

Glad to report that Becky was like a different person at the party this afternoon, so didn't spend the whole time thinking why the f* have I brought you here!

Also, when I came home, was delighted to find dh had not only hoovered the whole house (which I had requested) but emptied the dishwasher and hung out the washing, and has now put a new duvet cover etc on our bed. A trillion brownie points methinks! I wonder what he is after?? He did have time out this am to compete in a 10k run and he has also entered one mid April, although has said that if the baby is here by then, he won't do it!

The subject of feeding - my favourite! I am with opinions in that go with the flow (pardon the pun) and don't beat yourself up about it if bf fails. I lasted 1 week, and that was a week too long. It had a dreadful effect on me bonding with Becky and I used to dread it when it was time for feeding. So, I gave up and never looked back. I did feel awkward though at antenatal meetings - almost ashamed - as everyone else was bf, but this time around, I am hitting the bottle straight away and will hold my head up high!

Rant over. Well, it isn't, but I shan't go on!

AngeG · 25/03/2007 20:44

Fantastic birth story WCL thanks for posting. I am now typing with tears rolling down my face. Congratulations again. I really love the name Gabriel James.

mammyjo · 25/03/2007 20:44

Lovely to hear from you WCL, really pleased you had a controlled and relaxed home birth. Reading about your ds saying the baby was lovely has made me fill up again! Look after yourselves and once again Congratulations!!!

CaptainDippy · 25/03/2007 20:45

Oh - it all sounds sooooo wonderful - Lots of grateful thanks here from a v.scared mummy who is expecting her third!! Gabriel James is lovely; but I hope you and DH can come to an agreement - take your time hon! Wow - your birth just sounds so fabulous - WELL DONE YOU!! Thank you soooo much for coming to fill us in on the details .... so pleased your DC's are being so delightful too - Long may it cont ..... [[hugs] and happy tears from Dipsville ....

babysopiniontakesover · 25/03/2007 20:45

WOW what a story - and what a quick birth!!!!!!!CONGRATUALTIONS - NOW GET SOME SLEEP!!!!

Bugmum · 25/03/2007 20:45

WCL - Oh, how lovely to hear all the details! What a fantastic birth it sounds!

Gabriel is actually what we are going to call our baby, as well . We ummed and ahhed (for all the obvious reasons) but in the end figured that by the time this one is in secondary school, 'gay boy' might well not be a voguish insult anyway. Hope you don't think I'm pinching your idea!

So nice to hear that your other DS have been lovely today, as well

CaptainDippy · 25/03/2007 20:46

Great news that B was much better this pm, SOSPL - was thinking ofy ou!!

babysopiniontakesover · 25/03/2007 20:48

SOSPL - Good for you thats the right attitude girl.

Bugmum · 25/03/2007 20:50

SOSPL - Quite right, you need to do what is best for you and your family. I am very, very pro-bf but that is for me (and primarily, if am honest, because I am the world's laziest woman ) but I certainly wouldn't feel ashamed if it didn't work this time. Hugely disappointed, yes, because I loved it last time, but ashamed absolutely not.

mammyjo · 25/03/2007 20:50

CD, you can be scary sometimes!! I never realised the tide of emotion that I would encounter post delivery, not helped by the fact that ds was poorly and in SCBU for 11 days. I think I had big bonding issues as he was taken from me at only 4 hours old (obviously for his own sake but not good for the two of us). Culminated in PND for me which was something I knew very little about last time but at least now my eyes are wide open to the possibility. I basically didnt eat for weeks and still expected to be able to BF - never going to happen really was it!

SOSPL, glad the party was more of a success today!

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 25/03/2007 20:50

WCL, what a wonderful birth story. Sounds fairytale and extremely civilised!! So very pleased for you and all your family.

Hope it all continues to go well for you.

Bring on the next one!!

AngeG · 25/03/2007 20:51

3.5 stone in 3wks Mammyjo. You must look after yourself better this time Although I was very similar, I didn't eat well for a long time after I had Jake although I put it down to the stress.

Breast feeding book is by Clare byam-cook and called what to expect when you're breastfeeding... and what if you can't? It gave lots of hints and tips as well as practical advice. I definitely feel more prepared than I did last ime.

Glad Becky was better at the party today SOSPL. What formula will you be using this time? I agree you should hold you head high with whatever feeding method you decide to use

WestCountryLass · 25/03/2007 20:52

Oh, and one handy hint, I completely forgot to get pain killers in for afterpains. Not a good move! Deffo stock up on paracetamols and ibuprofen especially if this is 2nd or more baby as they do indeed get worse

Bugmum · 25/03/2007 20:53

I ate far too well after the birth of DS (the downside of constant BFing, I think) and for a few months actually looked fatter than I had when I was pregnant, except in the bump area !

AngeG · 25/03/2007 20:54

Sorry Mammyjo x posts there, sounds like your eating was very much stress related in a similar way to mine. Hope things are better for both of us this time.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 25/03/2007 20:55

I used SMA Gold with Becky and that was fab. Never experienced any yukky poos with her. Also gave her cooled boiled water if ever there was a hint of constipation, but it worked well for us which was grand.

WCL, I bought some Nurofen just the other day for my hospital bag, as someone so kindly informed me in my leaving card from work that the afterpains can be quite painful!

Bugmum · 25/03/2007 20:55

My friend is married to an Indian, and his family recommends fennel tea for breastmilk and appetite
