I plan to take whatever nappies they recommend and then throw another pack in the boot! Always like to be overprepared!

Absolutely ROFL @ "Castrol Oil" and at poor runny being taken to the hospital in Nov to visit her mum and new baby in her wellies and shorts etc - Halrious!

Well, my hospital bag is still only as far as a list of stuff I wrote down the other day ..... DH & I are going to sit down tonight and sort out the photos on the computer - to make room for new bubbba's .... We're also going to mock up our Birth Announcements, so they can just be filled in with bubba's details and printed out when the time comes ...... Mmmmmmm ..... Need to buy card, write envelopes ...... Mmmmmmm..... Stamps ...... Mmmmmmm.... this is more complicated than I thought ..... Mmmmmmmmm ......

How DARE WCL find mroe important things to do than tell us the name of her wee man and share the gorey details!!!!!!

Best go - DH "bickering" with DD's. >

Evening all!

I am sooo uncomfy today - don;t know what to do with myself - think its my tummy rather than my bump but not sure! Ben to my relaxation class which wasn;t very relaxing as kept having BH and crampy pains. She even asked me if I was alright - I said not to worry - could go on for weeks!

Two things occured to me:

  1. WCL can lie on her tummy
  2. we will all be in tears now for atleast a month!

Off for bath and Top Gear - will catch up tomorrow

//[[Hugs]] uncomfy octo - enjoy Top Gear and get some good rest.

Girls in bed, phew - Going to sort out photos tonight so will be popping in intermitently .... Don't want to miss any more births ....

Katy - Don't fret about the cheque too much sweetie - I'll let you know when it arrives and is cleared and then your lovely Lambskin will be winging it's way to you!

nutty - Haven't forgotten about socks - boxes should be arriving Tues and going to sort out baby clothes Wed night; so they should materialise then and I'll pop them in the post Thurs. Does that sound ok??

How's everyone else?

Man I could do with a nice crisp glass of wine ..... (Makes me sick ..... )

Hi all

Now am hoping to bf but just wondered for those of you who were also intending to do this. Do you have any back up plan, like formula etc... bought and in the house just incase, and if so which one? Just concerned that I could buy one type and hospital could give them another. I am now fretting.

Very pleased that we have heard from 1B3 xx

I am planning to BF too like the last time, but have got SMA gold in just in case and its always good as a top anyway, even the occasional feed.

Evening all.

Sorry you've been uncomfortable octo. Enjoy Top Gear hope you sleep well.

Hi CD

Oooggs - I have got bottles/teats in preparation, but really don't know what to do about formula. Jake was given a specific premature cow & gate formula on prescription, so can't even go back to what I used then. My BF started using SMA Gold when she couldn't breastfeed, but changed very quickly to Cow and Gate Comfort which is supposed to be very good with prebiotics.I would really like some others views on this.

I am planning to BF and have bottles (from having to formula feed DD2 last time as she couldn't latch properly and lots of other problems....) so I can just send DH out to buy formula if required (I'm hoping not....) I would probably use Hipp Organic if needed as I am a bit of an old Lentil-Weaver at heart. Don't stress oooogs, just "go with the flow", esp with TWO to feed (I bow down to you in great awe .....) Just give it a go and don't bash yourself up if you find it hard - BF isn't always as "wonderful and straight-forward" as it made out to be. DD1 BF wonderfully and I was sooo blessed (never bought any bottles / formula with her at all.) - I was a right "BF snob" til I had DD2 and realised how tough and demoralising trying to feed a 'difficult' baby was. Make use of your local NCT BF counsellors (don't need to be a member to use thier services) or La Leche League - there's plenty of support out there if you look for it .... You are goig to be just fine!!

Meant to say I really want to breastfeed this time, but have got bottles just in case.

When in hospital with ds he was given Aptimil as a top up and we were very happy with this. DH can't believe I am so organised with everything else but haven't thought about milk as I struggled to bf ds and only managed 6 weeks with top ups so the twins could be even more difficult.

Report
AngeG · 25/03/2007 20:12

With Jake I managed really well whilst exclusivly expressing, in fact had absolutly loads of milk but once we were fully BF my supply dried up.

Am really hoping that not having a prem one with such a tiny mouth will mean it will be better this time.

Report
babysopiniontakesover · 25/03/2007 20:14

The thing is that they only tell you the upside about BF and not the downside ie

How it makes you ( well it did me anyway) tired to the point of feeling like a total and utter ZOMBIE as if you're being zapped of energy when you're knackered enough as it is.

You have to feed on demand every 2 hours or or so at first which means NO QUALITY SLEEP AT ALL at a time when you really need it.

Your milk flow can be so slow and minimal that it sometimes takes up to 2 hours just for one feed.

As for "expressing" I think the most I ever managed was a small trickle which hardly filled the bottom of the bottle.

I am sure this isn't how it is for everyone but it was for me.

Oha nd not forgetting the hard, ballooned boobs amd raw and cracked nipples. Nice.

I agree opinions. Have read the BF book that was recommended on here and feel much more prepared than I was first time around, when I didn't really look into it at all and just thought it would be ok. How wrong was I

Report
babysopiniontakesover · 25/03/2007 20:27

I didn't want to scare myself with the BF book looked a bit official! I heard that having an epidual can sometimes slow down milk flow/production, as well as loads of other things like asisted delivery, forceps etc, so I really want to try without this time...who knows??

As for BF I just think that it is each to their own for some it works for some it does't but it definitely makes a bond and brings you closer to your baby IMO. I just felf absolutely exhausted every day but at least baby last time got all the anitbodies etc I lasted about 4 weeks. The best thing about it was the hormonal high you got and as soon as you stopped those hormones came crashing down...thats enough reason in itself to really try to keep up!!!!!!!!!!

Nope - no epidural here with either of my births - Ange had a section last time, so guess she might have had a spinal ..... !!?

Report
AngeG · 25/03/2007 20:36

I've heard the same about c-sections delaying milk production because body has not been prepared for baby by labour, but TBH that wasn't the case for me last time. be interesting to see what happens with my elective section this time and BF!

Report
Bugmum · 25/03/2007 20:36

I'm not intending to buy any formula unless I need it; I BFed DS for a year, and my default position is that it ought to work again.

If it doesn't, I'll send DP out for formula etc (prob Hipp Organic, though have heard it can cause constipation and that Aptimal is better for not doing so), but I'm not going to think about it further than that at this stage. Not saying tra-la-la, it'll be terrific, but for me thinking positively is the way to go.

Mind you, if I were carrying twins I think I would have a much firmer back-up plan, and PS, I think that nipple confusion for most babies is a myth (else why would so many bfed babies, my DS included, switch so easily from breast to dummy and back again, and why would so many, like the DD of a good friend of mine, happily have a top-up bottle each night - right from hospital days - while being bfed for months?)
