Welcome to a new space!
I felt the baby move last night....had been getting sharp shooting pains just below my ribs on one side - I couldn't stand so laid down for an hour or so, and then I was entertained. V special isn't it to feel it again?!

Hi Everyone
Just back from a couple of weeks away - Centreparcs and a week at my Mum's house. Got loads of help with the twins so really had a good rest. Mum was trying to feed me up so she'd spent ages cooking and freezing meals for me but unfortunetely most of the meals featured red meat in large quantities. Spent a week with the most horrendous heartburn dispite ranitidene tablets and buckets of Gaviscon. Didn't have the heart to complain!
Have missed your news over the last couple of weeks. Everyone seems to have been busy shopping/decorating etc.
I'm not at all organised for the birth or Xmas. I go to the shops and just stand and stare at things I know I've got to get for my hospital bag and baby but I can't bring myself to buy them yet. I'm being silly and superstitious but the twins were born at 33 weeks and I don't want to tempt fate. Stupid I know. Last time I didn't even get around to packing a hospital bag. DH was despatched post birth to buy giant sanitary pads and to bring some clothes. He returned with panty liners and an old T-shirt of his with an advert for Immodium on the back so maybe the hideous memory will spur me on to go and do some shopping this weekend.

georginars · 11/10/2004 11:46

Have been looking around and yes, it seems that the baby could be sat there enagaged and on my bladder happily for ages - NO! I am also due December 1st and really, really couldn't face a potential 9 more weeks. Am also still attempting to play the clarinet although it's becoming nearly impossible, have a concert this weekend and am not entirely sure how I'll get through it without having to run off the stage to go to the loo...Probably also putting the baby off music for life. The heartburn is a bit better now though.
Finally went and looked round the hospital (West Mid) and was pleasantly suprise how nice it was, which made me feel better.
BeachedWhale, you made me laugh! I live in fear of relying on DH to bring in the correct stuff but can't quite bring myself to pack the bags - I hate packing.
I think the fundal height CM measurement is quite random myself - I know from extra scans that my baby is pretty damn big, but the measurement is still normal, 32cms at 32 weeks, and has never come up as big. It must depend on the amount of fluid, your height and weight, etc. etc. - it just seems like a guide, not a definite useful measurement.
And I still have 4 weeks left at work - I can't believe it! I expected to be finishing next week and instead, thanks to the extreme tight fistedness, here I am still - at least I can surf mumsnet and the web for free here

lilymum · 11/10/2004 17:05

Yes you're right, georginars, dd2 and dd3 both engaged several weeks early with me, and caused big pelvic pain problem, especially with dd2 where walking was agony. She was born a week early. It's funny really, because a lot of pregnancy books say second and subsequent babies tend to engage just before labour starts, and this doesn't seem particularly typical of other women's experiences.

hana · 12/10/2004 14:12

hi everyone!
was helping out at a bfing clininc this am and met a lady who was 6 weeks early....that has started me thinking.....ARRGH!!!! I'm not ready!(But are you ever?)
About the fundal height thing - midwife last week said I was measuring at 30.5 but was only 29. I don't think it's that exact really.
gggggg - did you get a different buggy? Those ones look great (but ouch! ££) we still have dd's 2 in 1 pram, but I'd really like a 3 wheeler.
ginger - insensitive friend eh?
georginars and potpourri - looks like you two will kick of the month!

Hi all

I'm off to yet another ante-natal class on Thursday. Really like the NCT one but nobody lives in walking distance so trying this other one. I'll know it all and still manage to do it all wrong

Actually started to think about not having an epidural (should mention that I had quite a good experience with it last time) until this afternoon. Had this unmistakable jabbing pain down the pelvis - I'm not going to be a hero, no sire!

Hana, I realised yesterday I have probably a max of 6 weeks to go. I don't feel remotely ready - and I'm not. The builders are still here and the baby room still needs the floor sanded (in 2-3 weeks I think). I have started shopping for clothes as I didn't keep anything. A shame in a way - nice in another.

Will be exciting to see who gets to go first.

redshoes · 14/10/2004 10:36

Hello all
I'm new to this mumsnet malarkey and really glad I've discovered it - now I know others are not sleeping and obsessed with buggies I feel slightly more normal! I am due 21st December by the way, with my fourth...I am really worried at the moment about how I will get any rest when the baby comes - I've started wanting a pm nap already...but my 4 and 2 yr olds don't agree! How will others with older siblings manage?

BeachedWhale · 14/10/2004 11:03

Hi and welcome, Redshoes.
I too am worrying how I will cope with my 3rd baby. Just had horrendous time trying to get twins up and dressed and to school in torrential downpour this morning. They have a knack of being most un-cooperative when things difficult! Don't drive so had to use double buggy which is sooo heavy to push at the moment. They got to school nice and dry though - I got drenched. How will I cope with a new baby as well! Just going to push it all to the back of my mind until I have to think about it I suppose.

Ronniebaby · 14/10/2004 11:47

Welcome Redshoes.

I havent even thought about it, I'll no doubt go with the flow to begin with then pull my hair out after

hana · 14/10/2004 11:58

Welcome Redshoes! Good luck!
haven't thought too much about that yet - have one 3 year old and 3 days she goes to nursery - I'm already late most days so what it will be like in January I don't know!! I already miss our laid back relaxed start to the day!
Nimme - had an epridural first time around although by the pushing stage they wouldn't top it up. Very much looking forward to one again!! DH said I was v v funny. I don't remember much to be honest....

Anyone going to do cloth nappies? Would be interested in how you decided which one to go for, etc etc it's v confusing to me

Nimme · 14/10/2004 13:33

Hello and welcome Redshoes.

I just have to have a whinge. I apologise in advance if anyone on this thread was at the same ante-natal class I attended this morning: it was awful! It was run by a health visitor who didn't really know her stuff and, in my opinion, managed to confirm all the horror stories. All but me were first timers and encouragement and motivation seemed alien concepts to her. I was worried about the NCT class but it was a hundred times better than this. I ended up feeling quite sorry for them all and hope they have good books, friends etc.

Sorry - end of rant.

Have been feeling like an afternoon nap for ages but doesn't work with DD. End up going to bed very early instead. When baby here will have quiet time and make good use of TV (bad mother that I am).

Bought moses basket yesterday so feel a bit more organised. And x-mas wrapping paper. I am knocking them down one by one - now if only I could get to finish the nursery......

Ronnie - I'm bla bla bla'ing on my own now

PotPourri · 14/10/2004 16:02

Welcome Redshoes. Wow - your fourth!

Nimme, that sounds awful. Like you, I hope those other girls have good friends, or use Mumsnet!

Hana, I'm planning to use cloth nappies. I've been collecting as many as I can of different brands/types over the last couple of months (muslins, terry squares, prefolds, flannel birth to potty several makes, shaped terries several sizes, couple of totsbots, few disana tie nappies, few imses, a couple of all in ones, and 2-4 wraps in each size - various brands). Mostly all second hand. I now have enough for all my needs to potty, but as I only bought bargains if one system doesn't work, I will just sell them on again. Apparently high street shop terries are no use, better to buy from specialist nappy suppliers online. Email me off post if you would like web links - have become a bit of an expert! Have also got disposables for hospital/Christmas period so that I don't get put off the whole thing completely!

Anyone finished work yet? I've still got 4 weeks, but can see an end in sight now. Am holding off washing EVERYTHING until my maternity leave, as I know I would just do it again otherwise (given my cleaning obsession).

Arranged Christening this week. We just want something really small so are combining with my sister visiting (godmother) just before Christmas.

Ronniebaby · 14/10/2004 16:28

I have all the other peoples kids pressies done, ie nieces/nephews, friends etc, now I just have to finnish off my DS's, get something for DH, and parents.

I have made it easy for DH, I said after (roo) is born I want a perm on my hair and maybe highlites or colour, as I've not done it whilst being preg, maybe it'll give me a lift after. So he only has to really buy me something small for on the day and something from DS.

Nimme, shame about classes, but cant have been that bad if you can still waffle

As I am self employed I will prob work upto end of Nov, and have December off, as (roo) is due 17th gives me just over 2 weeks to settle unless its early.

Nimme - waffling, waffling

redshoes · 14/10/2004 18:23

potpourri, I used motherease cloth nappies and wraps for my second and they were very good, they are adjustable from birth to toddler but you need different size wraps. I stopped using them when we moved house twice in 6 months! And to my shame haven't gone back to them...but might use them for the next. I didn't mind washing them at all, the major negative for me was that they are so bulky they made dd look a funny shape in some clothes and wouldn't fit under others. Also, if you areout for the whole day you can't really carry pooey nappies around...so you would still use disposables on occasion. But I thought the design overall was good. I waited until she was a few months old to start as well - went straight into medium wraps which lasted well. HTH.

redshoes · 14/10/2004 18:27

sorry hana that was to you too! I chose them on the recommendation of a friend who was a seasoned cloth nappy-user and had tried several types. The adjusting mechanism can be either poppers or velcro. I chose velcro so they were just like disposables to put on. I couldn't face all the folding you have to do with some brands, though those who use them claim you quickly get the hang of it!

redshoes · 14/10/2004 18:31

nimme cbeebies comes into it's own at times like this! But leaving my baby-mad dd2 (who will be 25 months) even slightly unattended with a real live 'dolly' will be asking for disaster!!

lilymum · 15/10/2004 10:48

redshoes, I currently doze on the sofa and let dd2 who is 3 potter about quietly in the room having put out a few books and toys for her. She's pretty good because she knows she has to be quiet. I'm lucky in that dd3, currently 18 months, will be over 20 months when this one is born, still has an afternoon nap, so I don't have to contend with her too. I'm hoping that after this baby is born, I will just be able to either sleep it next to me in its moses basket while I sleep on the sofa, or send dd2 off to rest/play in her room while I sleep properly in my bed. It's not ideal anyway, because usually I'm just dozing off and have to get up to go and collect dd1 from school. Will just have to see how it works out, but it's definitely worth encouraging them now to get used to a quiet time in the afternoon perhaps in their bedroom, when they know they are to entertain themselves and not disturb you until told otherwise. This is what I had to do when I had dd3, because at time dd1 who was 3 and a half had outgrown her nap and I was desparate for sleep.

Ronniebaby · 18/10/2004 23:21

Hey what's happened we havent all given birth early yet have we

Sometimes I would like to think I am closer than I am, (roo - bump) is moving like CRAZY and its beginning to really hurt and become annoying, I know I shouldnt say that, but mine never gives up, I dont think I get an hours peace, I know it sleeps but like DS it wriggles sooo much in its sleep, it feels like it never sleeps.

Now I'm getting tired and uncomfortable just sitting or lying down.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Nimme

Nimme · 19/10/2004 10:31

Poor you Ronnie - find it bad enough to sleep without the baby having a jig too.

I am also getting very tired and my legs/feet are full of water now. Also had some veins pop on my leg. I am in half-denial as I'll otherwise go mental and start fretting about long term damage. Worried enough about losing the weight again.....

My friend has just had her baby 4 weeks early. That would be great in a way - but the b.... builders are still here so maybe not. I am not complaining though ggglimpopo!

I have lost track of when everyone is due?
Perhaps everyone could post dates again and we could make new list?

pp and redshoes - the motherease ones are made in Canada, so I would be supporting my home and native land in a small way! think I will use disposables in the first few weeks and then change onto cloth. Am going to try and get some second hand as well, and will order some for mum to bring over with her in Jan.
nimme and ronnie - know about the kicking - it almost hurts now, I can def feel the ankles and knees! Saw my GP yesterday - I have been put on iron and folic acid pills and need my bloods repeated in 2 more weeks....was told that if I loose a lot of blood they don't like to give transfusions now, so need to increase iron now. I hate taking pills

I sent off my first Christmas parcel yesterday, 3 more to go! DH off work today so hoping to do some shopping minus our dd. Much easier that way!

Hi All

I am new to mumsnet having discovered it by accident, while looking up raspberry leaf tabs. (still not sure they work!)
I am 38 wks and all my friends have given birth early so utterly cheesed off that I am, as everyone keeps pointing out 'still here'
I'm having my 3rd baby due 3rd Nov (2 DS 10yrs & 7yrs) and I was wondering if any of you on youre 3rd or more had experienced strong Braxton H's.
I was awake for over an hour last night with pretty strong pains that were 10mins apart. I was convinced that this was 'it' and just as I reached for my bag the damn things just stopped. I have been told that 3rd timers can be difficult, is this going to carry on until the end?! Has anyone had anything like this?

redshoes · 19/10/2004 13:46

due 21st December
my third was 2 weeks late - sorry! But I had no false alarms, in fact I thought she would never be born!
