Welcome to a new space!
I felt the baby move last night....had been getting sharp shooting pains just below my ribs on one side - I couldn't stand so laid down for an hour or so, and then I was entertained. V special isn't it to feel it again?!

Hi chicks. Well, I have started my NCT antenatal classes and am getting alot out of it. Mostly enjoying meeting people in the same boat as me, who live nearby. It's also good to talk through the labour and what happens when - have learnt loads. And although I am still a bit worried, I am no longer terrified. Anyone tried the Raspberry leaf tea? I got a little sachet in my antenatal goodie bag today. Apparently you can take from 30 weeks and it just strengthens your uterus (doesn't bring on labour, but when labour comes it makes it more effienct - and uterus shrinks quicker afterwards too.

I did not get a goodie bag at the first antenatal class last week . Now there is a 2 wk break as the hospital is being official opened (been in operaton for most of the yr) and the room is not available the other wk. So the last one will be 2.5wks before my due date, and so will the tour of the hospital (different one).
Hoping baby is not that early as need to get clearance for home or water birth from my consultant whom I don't get to see until 38wks.

hope other mums2b are feeling well and not getting too fed up

Wow - I post this morning and come back this evening and you've all gone MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Except Nimme who is anyway and likes to ramble (tee hee)

MiniB · 20/10/2004 08:24

Hi all, my due date is 2/12/4, & I have finished the NHS classes which were quite good. The girls on the course were really friendly. I've justed started the NCT, my first impression was really good Yesterday I had a scan at 33.5 weeks to check my placenta which is absolutely fine, infact everything is going well. The estimated baby weight is 6lb 10oz already and I still have 6 weeks to go! It's quite big the midwife said babies can have growth spurts so I'm told not to worry & the weight may even out by the birth. I hope so! Glad everyone else is doing OK.

Nimme · 20/10/2004 17:54

Ronnie, just wait until I come back from ante-natal class run by health visitor tomorrow - major waffle alert!

Ronniebaby · 20/10/2004 20:35

ooooooo Nimme, I quaking

redshoes · 21/10/2004 09:28

MiniB
FWIW, I have no faith in scans being able to gauge the baby's weight - I had a scan the day before my dd2 was born and was told she was 8lbs...she was 9lbs 11oz!

MiniB · 21/10/2004 09:56

Hi Redshoes, yes I have heard the scans aren't that accurate on weight estimation, nevermind I'm told babies sleep better if they're bigger - although I think that's an old wifes tale!!

9lbs 11oz, is a good weight did you have an OK labour? I'm worried that if the baby is big I will need loads of drugs!!

mummumof2 · 21/10/2004 10:31

Hi All,
Only just been told about this site - im a usual posted on Babycentre. My Name is Rachel im 20 yrs old and a single mum to Callum who is 16 months old and im also due my 2nd 16th Dec. Leaving my partner was the best thing i ever did and dont regreat a thing.

Would love to get to know some other ladies due in December.

Rachel, Callum and Bump

redshoes · 21/10/2004 10:48

MiniB I had completely drug-free 'easy' births with all my babies - the bigger the easier, honestly! The midwife said something to do with gravity - their weight helps them to travel faster?? Not sure, but straightforward births and no stitches - doesn't stop me worrying about the next one tho'

ginger29 · 21/10/2004 13:00

Hi all. My Due date is 10/12. Had my growth scan last week. All was well, as I thought. Smallish baby but well within normal range.
Scubamum2be - you are having home birth too? I have a midwife coming round to 'assess' the flat next week. NOt sure exactly what she is looking for but hope we pass!.
4 weeks to go at work! Has anyone stopped yet? I can't wait. Looking forward to lying down on sofa for last 3 weeks.
V bad rib ache and v wriggly baby!

Nimme · 21/10/2004 13:22

Okay, went to second ante-natal class run by health visitor (not mine thank god). Not as bad as last week but this week she spent the majority of the time reading out loud from this hospital leaflet on pain relief. What's wrong with a photo copy, read at home, questions next time ???? I am talking myself into doing something about it I know - but she really bugs me. They are all first timers and have so many questions I don't feel she answers very satisfactory.

Waffling rant over. Ronnie

FionaJT · 21/10/2004 13:44

Hi, you can add me to the list (I'm a regular lurker!) I'm due on 25th.

Portly · 21/10/2004 13:59

And me! I'm due on 18th Dec!
Sorry no interesting news or gossip - my ante-natal classes don't start for another month and I have never been weighed/measured etc, is this normal? Everyone else seems to be?

georginars · 21/10/2004 14:26

hello - can add me too.
In fact I've updated the list to save you the bother - I think it's accurate.
Portly, I've never been weighed - thank god! but I have been measured every time, however, you don't seem to see the midwives for ages and if you have shared care with GP your GP may not bother? (think it's very much down to the individual). seems we don't have that many appointments anyway unless there's a problem.
Had first antenatal class with the health visitor today and it was good - much better than I though. still have hospital classes and NCT course though - might be overload!

Thanks redshoes, that's good news, people only tell you horror stories so that's really encouraging. I have been told gravity helps & the baby's position.

scubamum2b · 21/10/2004 16:40

Ginger - MW is certain that baby is now head down (all the kicking & movements at 4am yesterday were worth it!). I think my preference would be 1st to have a water birth and if the pool is unavailable, then home birth. Nothing has been said about 'assessing' the house yet - maybe at the next visit in 2wks time.

But have to wait til 38wks to see the consultant to confirm water/home birth are still an option.
(Don't want the hassle, & lack of space for home water birth)

PotPourri · 21/10/2004 16:46

Hi all. My NCT antenatal classes are going well. I am really enjoying talking about the whole process etc. I'm feeling much more confident about what is important to me (and have started on my birth plan). Got the hospital ones starting next week - which will be good as I haven't done the hospital tour yet. Next week at my midwife appointment I will have a million questions ready - as I haven't seen the midwife for 4 weeks.

Finish work in 3 weeks - I can't wait. I am sooooo fed up trying to concentrate when I am shattered and just want to daydream all day about baby things. And to be honest, all the kicking and squirming going on in there is quite distracting! Oh well, not long now.

Nimme, you would be doing the right thing if you complained about that health visitor class - even if not to her face (personally am too much of a wimp for confrontation so I would chicken out of that). Those poor first timers will be terrified - which is bound to lead to more difficult birth experiences. If the woman can't be supportive and professsional, she shouldn't be doing it. (Just joining in your rant)
