Welcome to a new space!
I felt the baby move last night....had been getting sharp shooting pains just below my ribs on one side - I couldn't stand so laid down for an hour or so, and then I was entertained. V special isn't it to feel it again?!

Hi all,

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one at least thinking & prehaps ocassionally panicking that I won't get everything done before the baby is born. I think maybe it's worse when it's you're first as there is the additional thoughts that life will never be quite the same again, and I won't just be able to sit & read the paper, lay in bed until 10ish on a Saturday etc. But I'm so looking forward to our baby, it took such a long time. DH is slowly decorating the nursery, I'm desperate to do it myself but he's left with the celling, floor & gloss now so I'm not sure I fancy being up a ladder, or crawling around on the floor! I have 2.5 weeks of work & I can't wait, to stop. I'm 31 weeks tomorrow! So I should have loads of time to go shopping before the baby is born. Oh I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one awake at 3-4 in the morning! Take care everyone

Portly · 29/09/2004 10:59

Hi, I just wondered if anyone has an over-enthusiatic mother-in-law like mine? I know she only means well and is just excited, this will be the first grandchild, etc, but she has gone completely bezirk buying things for the baby, infact I now have 2 massive cardboard boxes and a suitcase of stuff in the loft, worst of all it's not stuff I like or would have chosen myself! There's no telling her, she doesn't listen and I find myself wondering who is actually having this baby, me or her?? Perhaps I'm just an ungrateful witch, but I there seems to be nothing left to get almost! What can I do to stop her, any ideas??
thanks

scubamum2b · 29/09/2004 16:08

portly - we have/are going to state that we don't want presents for Xmas for the baby before he/she is born. A friend is looking after his daughters stuff as she does not want anything in her house, especially as she had probs in the early stages. That could be one tact, but maybe a bit late as you already have loads of stuff.

Another tact being is to be direct - get your husband to reflect your feelings (which he probably shares) to his mum. It got to that stage when MIL was asking when we were having a baby, I should give up my career, was I taking contraception etc even after only a couple of yrs together - only making her wait over 10yrs

You are not a witch and even if she only has 'good' intention, this is your baby and you want to make your own choices as it will be you looking after your baby (most of the time) and using the baby things in doing so - better stop the ball rolling before she starts telling you how to look after/bring up baby after the birth. - good luck

hana · 29/09/2004 18:20

hey portly - tricky one, esp if it's the first grandchild. Scuba's right - get your hubby to say something, he'll be tactful if it's his mum (?) My mum sends my dd loads of things that she never actually wears or uses - she doesn't know the difference though 'cause she's in Canada, but I do feel guilty when I'm giving them away or come across them.....I know she means well.
ginger - you'll have buggy envy once you've bought your buggy and you're going 'round the shops!! I have it 3 years later. I would def go for something small, I think some Mcclarens are suitable from birth and there are quite good deals on sites like kiddecare at the moment. We bought a big 2-in-1 pram for dd and it is really really big, the one thing we bought that we did regret. IT's a great pram, but takes up a lot of room. We eventually bought a stroller type when she was old enough.
NImme- you know you'e going to have a boy now that the room is tinted pink!!

Hi all, and a big welcome to the new girls. I am getting a bit fed up and impatient now (31 weeks today) - I just can't get a decent sleep at night.

Did a STUPID, STUPID thing on Monday night. I was away with work for a meeting and had lemon meringue pie (hello , raw eggs!!). Was then up all night on the toilet. For once my heartburn was not there as everything, and I mean everything was going south at that point. Strange thing was that I didn't even click that it was the pie until the middle of the night - how dim is that. Was absolutely cream crackered yesterday at my all day meeting . And to top it, I had to starve myself since midnight for my bloomin glucose test thing this morning. Good news is the baby is still VERY active, so no harm done, and the heartburn is back (despite still having a jippy stomach) which strangely enough I am seeing as a good sign. And have had a lovely evening with DH tonight, so all is looking rosy in the potpourri house at this minute in time.

Ronniebaby, glad your little one is back on track.

Can't wait til we get our little baby. I am starting to get to grips with the whole labour thing. Still terrified, but there was a good thread on here today about coping strategies, and I pretty much have decided to be flexible and open minded.

Sounds like we all have our bad days now. It must be a last trimester thing! Finish work in 6 weeks, so it is all in sight now at least. I am trying not to panic about being ready. We're going to give cloth nappies a shot, and I am organised for that, and my sister gave me all the main things (cot, pram, moses basket, clothes, bottles, bouncer, baby sling - she's had 4 so really built up a collection!). Anyone thought about their hospital bag yet? DH's mate at work keeps telling me it won't be long (meaning days rather than weeks) as his wife was really early, like 32- 25 weeks, all 3 times. It's freaking me out a bit, but also making me think I wouldn't mind the baby coming a couple of weeks early - fully healthy of course.

Am I sad I've been thinking of getting my xmas cards down to start writing, I tend to buy mine in the xmas/jan sales ready for the next xmas.

Hope all are ok.

Really need to think about xmas pressies,

BambiBE · 01/10/2004 11:07

I also keep thinking of getting things done for xmas, but have decided to hold off until on maternity leave (beginning november) as I am also suffering the tiredness and 4am waking bouts, so concentrating on energy for work at the moment (boring). Have also booked NHS antenatal classes there are only 3, so I too wonder if they might be a bit basic? a friend of mine is going to nct classes so I will pick her brains and probably you guys aswell! I have my heart set on a pram, but as you say it only seems to be a 2 in 1 (huge) or buy an extra carrycot (expensive), so I think it will be a case of going for one of those and getting a lightweight buggy later, does the joy of shopping never stop! shame we don't have an unlimited budget.

Nimme · 01/10/2004 13:33

Haven't bought the x-mas cards yet but all the various children's pressies have arrived (catalogues). Sitting in hall waiting to be wrapped. Problem is that the builders are still creating an enormous amount of dust and nowhere to really store. Will concentrate on buying and do the wrapping later.

Another NCT class today. Actually getting more out of them than I thought I would. Fancy hiring teacher as my doula.

I think I might splash out and buy moses basket for having downstairs in the first few months. I need to check out e-bay (and how it works!).

I have about 9 weeks to go - doesn't seem possible. On the other hand I so much to do I'd better get on with it and stop blabbering here

hana · 01/10/2004 18:38

Nimme - I think I said something on your other thread about the moses basket. We hadn't bought one but ended up getting one when dd was just a few days old. If you can borrow one do that or check out nearly new places and charity shops. YOu can buy a new mattress for not much. And also about the buggy - the smaller the better unless you have lots of room to store it when not using it.
I also bought some pink things from Gap the other day but for a friend who is expecting a girl a few weeks after me.

hana · 01/10/2004 18:41

oh - and I never did the NCT classes with dd - didn't know about them then, but am signed up for a refresher course that starts in Nov. Also going to the NHS ones but I think it's only a couple of hours this time around. Hope you're enjoying the classes!

...now must dig out the cards that I bought last year in the sales......!

just getting through the worse 24hrs of pregnancy so far. Rib flare was hurting bad -but was told today baby is at max hight around 31wks, which I will be later this wk, and the pain should subside, which is a lot better than the thought that it was going to continue for the next 10wks.

Added to this there was/is bad pain on my other side (looks like another UTI), high temprature, headaches and loss of appetite, which also meant little sleep.

Now on antibiotics, paracetomol, lots of fluid (which I am sweating out - nice!), caught up on sleep and even managed a bowl of soup. You can tell I am not well as the chocolate pud DH got for my birthday is still sitting in the fridge!

fortnight · 05/10/2004 11:28

I've also been buying some very cute baby clothes, some boys' and girls' stuff, as we don't know what we're having.I've told dh that they are presents for other people having babies-I hope my next step isn't hiding my purchases from him! Ds is adamant he wants a brother-he actually gets quite upset at the sugestion that it may be another sister.Hopefully he will be ok whatever.I am feeling a bit perkier this week-I've started staying up till midnight and it seems to have more or less stopped the 4am waking sessions.

Nimme · 06/10/2004 10:55

fortnight - you'll be sneaking shopping bags upstairs and throwing them into cupboards soon

Nice idea about staying up later - perhaps I'll try it. I am knackered byt he end of the day though - mainly I think because I sleep so badly. Wake up when having to turn, wake up with stuffy nose, wake when needing loo, wake up 4-5'ish, wake up when DH snores (b......) Natures way of preparing me for a screamer?? Or as DH says natures way of giving me a bit of a hard time as baby will be sleep angel but it can't be too easy.....

Ronniebaby - just to prove I am still the babbling queen

Ronniebaby · 06/10/2004 12:05

Nimme, - cheeky

I've just been told, my 16 year old niece is due to give birth next March.

OMG I'll be a great Aunt, and a new mother to my 2nd.

Screaming babies everywhere.

Nimme waffle, waffle, waffle

Nimme · 06/10/2004 12:26

Ronnie - oh well as long as it's great aunt and not granny

Ronniebaby · 06/10/2004 15:31

Nimme - Leave it out, gal

My son is only 4, so we have a long way yet hopefully before great granny

Nimme · 06/10/2004 18:41

Okay okay

hana · 07/10/2004 17:13

hope you're feeling better scuba...

and fortnight - lol about you and your shopping! I'm sure your hubby will catch on sooner or later.......?
I bought something today for the baby - big bag of cotton balls!!
Saw midwife today for glucose thing and she said I'm measuring at 30.5 weeks and that the baby might be early? As long as it's not the 25th!!

anyone want to do a who's due when? Who IS going to be first? Someone MUST have their hospital bag packed????????

OP posts:
Ronniebaby · 07/10/2004 21:11

Well I went for my 2 weekly AN today and if you read my previous posting about the bl**dy doctor, this time the midwife measured me her way then the tape measure way and said well I make it you are 30 weeks, and yep she's bang on.

We did discuss a few things and she has put my mind at rest, thankfully.

Funny when she was listening to the Heart, or should I say trying to listen, (Roo) wasnt having any of it, and kept moving, in the end the MW put her hand on my tum and (Roo) constantly kicked her as if to say, "GET OFF ME".

MW said well there' no doubt you have a feisty one in there, and very active toooo , thats my boy/girl???

Hope all are ok.

Nimme - Waffle again

Ronniebaby · 07/10/2004 21:13

Hana - I havent got my bag packed yet, but I have a few things ready to go in a bag, when I get my little suitcase thingy out the loft.

So close enough

Due December 17th

ginger29 · 08/10/2004 09:06

Hi all,
Saw doctor last week for AN check up. She said she wants to refer me for another scan as she though I might be a bit small. She also said that it was her first maternity clinic and when she was measuring it felt v different to when midwife does it. How can all women measure the same cm's at same weeks anyway? Have not yet got date for scan but feel more annoyed than worried as I think all is ok. Baby is Vvvvv active and heartbeat was fine.
Started hospital classes last week which were v crowded but okay. Nice midwife running them. We have deceided to go for a home birth. Anyone else doing this?
How's this for insensitive childless friend - talking about buggies and saying maybe I can order now and get deliverd later. She said 'Yes, they let you do that with baby things in case anything goes wrong' !!!!! How nice.
Am feeling v lazy reading about everyone's xmas shopping. Will have to wait till I stop work - 6 weeks. Already finding it very tiring and must keep reminding self not to run around so much. Hope everyone is well and rested. Think I am becoming a contender for chief waffler - have gone on a lot! Sorry

hi - haven't posted on here for ages as just having too rubbish a time sorting out work/redundancy and various other traumas. All seems to be better now though.
I'm also looking for some advice from anyone - am now 32+2 weeks, went to doctors for checkup yesterday and she said the baby is 4/5 engaged already (this is my first). she warned me that I might not make the full 40 weeks....is this pretty early to be 4/5 engaged? I know they can hang around there for ages but should I be preparing myself for an earlier arrival?
Re Christmas - have done nothing except purchase some charidee cards from a friend and warned everyone they'll be getting very cheap presents....

PotPourri · 08/10/2004 16:58

Hi all. Glad to hear the NCT is going well Nimme. Mine starts quite soon, so am looking forward to that. Sorry to hear about yoru traumas Georginars.

I have started packing my hospital bag (there's a good thread on here just now). I think I am going to need a porter to cart it around by the time I pack everything that people are suggesting you take...!

Have had my mum visiting this week and we have been doing lots of baby things. I am really organised now. I have even written my christmas card list so that I can be ready when the time comes. ONly 5 more weeks at work left.

I'm due 1 Dec. KNowing my luck I will be really late. don;t know how I can hold on another 7 weeks, never mind 9!! Am soooo tired as I just don't sleep and feel like an uncomfortable whale.

Georginars, the doctor told me this week that my bqaby's head is engaged too. I think this can happen quite early from what others have said. It makes a nearby toilet ESSENTIAL I have found, but actually helps the heartburn.

Ginger, the things people say amazes me!! I must admit the pearls of wisdom about how I will feel, what I will do and how I will find things is really starting to get on my tired and frayed nerves!! Grrr.
