Welcome to a new space!
I felt the baby move last night....had been getting sharp shooting pains just below my ribs on one side - I couldn't stand so laid down for an hour or so, and then I was entertained. V special isn't it to feel it again?!

Hana - welcome back, glad to hear you wore your "pants" on holiday. Bet you looked great!

ggglimpopo - good to hear from you again. As for whinging - that's all I seem to do and I have nothing to whinge about compared to you. How's the new house? Is DH okay?
I still have tons to do re x-mas and baby - like paint walls and sand floor in nursery. Did all the children's pressies today - all from Letterbox and GLTC. All pressies this year will be from catalogues or theatre tickets - thank god for the internet. Will be giving away any anonymity here but yes we have decided on a name. If it indeed is a she, she will be called Josephine.

Potpourri - I ate really badly with DD1 but got away with it. It's pot luck I think. As for sleeping - not good. I'm too hot and wake whenever I have to turn (frequently). Then of course I must just spend a penny as well. The worst however is the stuffy nose. Last night I popped a Sudafed in the middle of the night - I do not have a cold. Will ask question on other thread.

Janos - I am attending first NCT tomorrow - will report back on the knit-your-own-muesli. I am gunning for epidural so might be very popular. And I swear by Gina Ford (in moderate doses). Should be interesting

Janos · 23/09/2004 15:42

Nimmee - told my mum about having a big baby. She thought this might be the case as enormo-babies run in the family. She has advised me to have all pain relief going . Hope you enjoy your NCT class. My first one is next week.

Potpourri - you have described exactly how I feel, including the mad urge to clean, which is very unlike me! Had glucose tests/bloods this morning and will get results in a couple of days..

Ronniebaby · 23/09/2004 20:56

Hiya Ladies

Well I've just been for my ante natal today with the Doc, which I hate doing, I dont mind the MW, but the Doc always scares me.

As I am 28 weeks, she decides to tell me today that my baby isnt as big as it should be.

It should measure about 28cms, but it shouldnt matter 2 cms either way, so either 30 or 26, she only measured it at 22, asked the midwife to measure it and she said 24. Yet 4 weeks ago the midwife said I was bang on??????

I then told both of them that I was only a small baby, 6lb7oz, my sis was 6lb, older bro was 6lb5oz, and youngbro was 7lb. DH was only 7lb, and my DS was 6lb13oz and only 19 inches long when born, so we are bound to be small. My mom didnt look pregnant with any of her pregnancies, and I'm now 5'7", youngbro is nearly 6 foot.

They then preceeded to talk above me saying "ooo should we get a scan" the MW said no not yet, wont show much wait till 32 weeks then we'll get a scan. I then said excuse me I am here you know. The MW then explained that the scan could tell them exactly whether (Roo) was small etc or if there was a problem.

I then said well let me tell you, it aint that small, as it kicks etc like crazy and is CONSTANTLY moving all the time and I mean all the time.

Doc then said I need to lie down at least for 1 hour in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, yeh like that's possible, on my side not my back, I then said I only lie on my side as it's too uncomfortable on my back as (Roo) kicks and its VERY painful. I then asked why altho I already knew, she then said, lets try and get some blood pumping to that baby

So I then come out of the doc's feeling a little concerned, until I spoke to my mom, who said dont worry till 32 weeks, as long as I can still feel it move as much.

Doctors eh, I think all AN should be done by MW's

Well thats my winge out the way, Sorry Ladies

PotPourri · 24/09/2004 10:54

Ronniebaby, sounds like you don't really have anything to worry about. And if you feel fine (and sounds like the little footballer is doing ok) then try to put your mind at rest until 32 weeks.

Saw my doctor today and I had sugar in my urine, so looks like the glucose test wasn't wrong after all. I;m going in next week to get it tested and I guess I will get some advice on what to do. Also go my iron tablets (will need to buy plenty of prunes ), and some mega strength gaviscon advanced. The doctor is actually very nice. I think teh first time I saw her it must have been a bad day or something. Baby measures 30cm, which is fine apparently.

Thank crunchie it's Friday is all I can say. I can't wait until I stop work (7 weeks ). I;m sure the time will fly in, and my mum is down visiting the week after next so I will get a break then for a week.

Jimjams · 24/09/2004 12:54

ronniebaby when I was pregnant with ds1 I saw a m/w in the moring who said all was fine growth wise etc, but I had low platelets so was sent up to clinic. That afternoon I saw a registrar who told me that I was way too big for my dates and had an excess of amniotic fluid and needed a scan. eventually had scan and the sonographer said that there was no excess, and it was a big baby. At that stage I stopped believing almost anyone who looked at me (my community midwife was good as was my consultant- everyone else I ignored- including the registrar who told me not to be stupid of course my baby wasn't engaged - that didn't happen at 6 months -until I pointed out that I was 38 weeks!!!)

Ronniebaby · 24/09/2004 18:15

Thanks ladies,

I was more annoyed than worried, but have calmed down now, (Roo) has been moving today, not as much, but then it was prodded etc yesterday.

I just hate to feel like I'm stupid, my periods were as regular as clock work and so is my ovulation so to say I'm almost 3 weeks behind is ludicrious.

I'm not big framed altho I am 5'7 so I dont think I would ever carry very big anyway.

Hey life goes on.

PP - my urine has been cloudy from day one and every sample they have sent off and all have come back fine. The hospital said one sample had white cells in it, but again came back clear, so they finally told me I dont drink enough (water or fluid) and this is why it's cloudy. (Go figure????)

Nimme · 25/09/2004 09:28

NCT update!

Went to my first NCT class yesterday. Not as wholesome and brown rice as I feared (yet) but teacher advocating home birth a bit too much for my liking. Impartiality is good. All the other Mums seem very nice - only slightly concerned we don't actually live in walking distance which was one of my main points for doing this. That is if I hit it of with any of them - they may think me absolutely awful and too much of a blabber mouth!

I have started to worry about too many things. Waking up at 5 am panicking about everything still to do, the health of the baby, house prices, and lots of other things - many out of my control. Argh!!

Hope all of your are well.

PotPourri · 26/09/2004 09:50

Nimme, sounds not too bad then. I'm glad to hear it. Mine starts in a few weeks, and will be an intensive course. Apparently there are 3 other mums in Isleworth in mine, so hopefully they can't be too far away (if I get on with them), even if at the other side of Isleworth, it's not TOO bad to get to.

I am looking forward to all the bits about birth and what happens etc. I really am clueless. I keep reading up which is making me feel a bit more in control, but I am also starting to panic. To be honest, I am most scared about the pain. Even saying that has made me go all wobbly. Anyway, I just need to deal with it, knowledge is power etc etc. And whilst I think it's a lovely idea to have a home birth and no pain relief, I am gradually coming round to the idea that I am just going to have to be flexible and see how I feel at the time, with the pain.

Hope your little Roo is back to kicking lots Ronniebaby! And that everyone else is going ok (if a bit tired now that we are in the last trimester)

BeachedWhale · 26/09/2004 10:46

Hi Everyone,
I hope it's not too late to join you on this thread. I'm new to Mumsnet having discovered you via the Mumsnet book. I feel a bit rude gatecrashing at such a late stage! I'm expecting a DD on 30th Dec. I also have twin boys aged 3yrs 4mths. Have really enjoyed reading all your posts. I had a difficult pregnancy/birth etc with my boys so this time I've panicked about every little twinge and symptom. All is going well so far and according to the doc I'm having a "normal" pregnancy this time. It has been nice to read that all my moans and groans are pretty much par for the course!

BambiBE · 26/09/2004 13:09

Hi all, another new addition I'm afraid. I am expecting my 1st on 18th Dec and alterate from euphoria to neurosis, but am grateful to have found this site and others experiencing this roller coaster ride.

Jimjams · 26/09/2004 16:28

Well you've all organised me into contacting the local NCT. When I had ds2 I didn't want to see many Mum's with babies the same age as him (too many hideous memories of ds1 and the slow realisation he was autistic). Now that the autism is well and truly on board think I can handle it this time. I only know one family locally who Don't have SN children and think it would be nice for number 3 to have more exposure to normally developing kids than ds2 did. Also ds2 now loves playing with other children and would perhaps be good to widen his circle - so contacted the NCT. Now ds1 is in school full time its easier to go to groups etc anyway.

Otherwise thorouglhy fed up. DS1 is constantly climbing everything and has to be lifted down. He has no sense of danger at all- yesterday he was trying to climb on the stairs handrail at the top of the stairs (3 storey drop below). So by the end of the day am exhausted- he's a big 5 year old. He aslo keeps running away every time we go into the street- by the time I've wrestled him into the car and managed to get ds2 in as well I'm shattered. God knows how we'll manage number 3.

Portly · 26/09/2004 19:41

Hi
I am new here too, expecting first baby on 18th December. Everything ok so far, how did everyone manage to get on antenatal classes already? - mine don't start until I'm 36 weeks!!!
Anyone in Bromley/ Se London area and fancy meeting up?

Ronniebaby · 26/09/2004 20:36

Welcome Beachedwhale, BambiBE & Portly to the December thread, nice to have you on board.

Nimme - oh you organised, but I see you waffling too

PP - Thanks for wishing Roo kicking me loads, it blooming well never stops I know what you mean about the 3rd trimester stage, tired aint the word, altho trying to have a 20 min lie down with a mad 4 yr old aint easy.

Hope everyone else is doing fine.

Jimjams · 26/09/2004 21:05

Gave birth to my first 2 in Bromley Portly...

Moved away 2 years ago though and Farnborough has since been knocked down (needed to be ) Where are you doing your antenatal classes?

Portly · 27/09/2004 10:06

Jim-Jams
Hello, the classes are in Beckenham, though organised through Farnborough - all those there were full!

Jimjams · 27/09/2004 11:34

I went to the Beckenham classes as well (same reason- we lived on Bromley common so Farnborough would have been easier). if they're run by the same midwife (Gill??? can't remember her name!) then she's very nice....

hana · 28/09/2004 10:20

hey everyone, just a quickie...
beginning to feel tired again in afternoon, noooooooooo!! DD doesn't always have a nap so how am I going to recoup some energy? Just nearly 28 weeks, was hoping this wouldn't happen for another month or so!
off christmas shopping now for a couple of hours (with dd) may have to bribe her with some fast food.....!!

OP posts:
fortnight · 28/09/2004 11:13

Hello all,and welcome to the newcomers.I am also feeling very tired, and starting that waking at 4am for two hours, tossing and turning, and stressing out over things that don't even register with me the rest of the time.I am fairly organised,as I don't really need to buy anything this time around. And we've even started the christmas shopping! We are going to my parents' for lunch as they only live 5 minutes away, and there will be plenty of people to help with the kids. The name thing is a bit of a problem,as dh and I can't seem to agree at all this time.We were away at the weekend and came up with a(long) shortlist, and we'll wait until the baby is born to finally decide.I hope I get that moment after all the pain when he says "you've done all the work darling, you decide"....not very likely I think.

hana · 28/09/2004 17:12

fortnight - I really want to choose too! DH hates everything I come up with, but at that moment when they're handed the baby, how can they refuse us?!?!?!

so what did you get??

OP posts:
Nimme · 28/09/2004 17:47

Hi all - welcome Newbies!

ggglimpopo - very exciting actually buying something. My eyes have wandered into the baby dept. once or twice.

Well I painted nursery first coat of paint today with the help of sister. Had planned it to be rather neutral but it has turned out ever so slightly pinkish. Better be a girl now! Feel much better now I have actually started. Only another coat to do and then all the woodwork and then floor sanding and and and.....

Baby is lying on the right hand side and I feel terrible when I turn over at night - feel like I am squashing her (can't possibly lie on my left side all night even if it is recommended - also couldn't stay away from prawns).

Hana and fortnight - yes with being generally tired and bad nights storing up some energy for the big event and the many sleepless night to follow is becoming something of a fantasy.

scubamum2b · 28/09/2004 18:20

welcome to the new faces on here.

nursery decorated a bit ago - moved all the junk from that room to the other spare one, just need to get round to sorting that out so if we want we can have people to stay.

Most major purchase done, just got the cot to decide upon but won't purchase that until the new year at the earliest.

Wasn't going to buy any more maternity wear but the dress I made earlier in the year was too tight a couple of wks ago, so no chance for the wedding I'm going to in a month!

Baby is a lot more active the last 2wks, getting the kicks but it is the pushing and moving against the wall of my tummy that feels weird/slightly uncomfortable - told baby he/she can't get out that way!

still keeping in good health, only complaint is a sore back I keep getting, not at the base but RHS under my rib cage (which is not a UTI), that and more restless at night. Might soon chuck DH into the spare bed - oh forgot, got to clear that room up first!
Nimme - when I turn over at night, baby kicks me to let me know he/she is not comfortable, cue another 5mins rearranginging pillows

Nimme · 28/09/2004 19:44

scuba - now I'm really going to feel guilty and will be totally lopsided by the time this one is out. Think DH and I need to swap sides in the bed, luckily it is very big and so far haven't needed to boot him out (I tend to go when he snores )

He says I've been snoring lately too - feel great now he knows what it's b....like!

ginger29 · 28/09/2004 22:48

Hi ladies,
Hope all are doing well. Have had awful backache for last week and having frequent hot water bottles at home. Any other remedies? Swimming also good.
I am obsessed with buggies at the moment and staring at any I see in the street. Being a first timer at this has anyone had one they would def NOT/DO reccommend? Maclaren seems to be v popular choice near me. Will not be climbing mountains so don't think I need hi tec action mega tyres model.
Counting down the days at work - 38! We are starting hospital ante-natal classes on Monday. Not sure how they will be. Someone said may be a bit basic?
Feeling luckier than my friend who is moving house on Tuesday and is due with 2nd baby the week after! Have told her is bound to come on same day. What timimg.
Lots of restful, sleepy wishes to you all.
