Welcome to a new space!
I felt the baby move last night....had been getting sharp shooting pains just below my ribs on one side - I couldn't stand so laid down for an hour or so, and then I was entertained. V special isn't it to feel it again?!

lilymum - not in Oxford but not that far away

nimme - 'didn't miss much' - I assuming your dh just miss the start rather than you were disappointed with the scan? Didn't baby do sumersaults & wave to you!

Rbaby - we have been having probs all round - 1st phone and BT being cr@p sorting it out, a £600 gas bill done on readings (was a mistake!), car probs (again), breaks in the electricity supply. But life is great really, we will have (hopefully) a healthy little bundle of joy (and sleepless nights) by the end of the year

dh has big meeting next weds - big one, can't get out of type, so was getting a bit upset as want a scan but want dh to be there more.

After a few phone calls this morning I have now got the scan, but not at the local hospital (2mins down the road) but got to fight the rush hr traffic to Reading on Monday morning. So lot happier now

lilymum · 29/07/2004 14:03

Nimme - hurrah! One thing I do love about being pg is that I get so much more aggressive (dh finds it scary, he's just a wimp). Lets hear it for preggers and angry!!

Complete change of subject - I'm due to have my legs waxed tomorrow for first time ever. Am I crazy?? Hope baby doesn't sense I'm in pain and get upset!

hana · 29/07/2004 19:04

I'm here too!! And I'm still on for a Christmas baby.....hoping it comes after the 25th though....I've even started Christmas shopping shhhhh
can't believe i HAVEN'T oopss posted for such a long time, have been reading though.....it's great to be finally feeling good (dare I say blooming or is that something that other people say about you?!) but still have a nap when dd does every other day or so. I'm 19 weeks now and am so pleased to still be here Have scan at 22 weeks at my local hospital but am waiting for a referral to Kings. Won't find out sex after all, dp not keen. Would love another girl though.
We've been thinking of names too - top for girl is Mabel (does anyone like that name? haven't come across anyone yet!) and Finn. anyone else?!?

Ronniebaby · 29/07/2004 21:24

Nimme - only if its a really cat fight by the tree at DAWN????? On yer bike, how about 10.30am, I'll have just surfaced

DH always complains as I'm more aggressive when pg, and he worries, in case it goes too far,IYKWIM, worried for my safety & Bumps. But I love it, altho I've always been aggressive, I dont take crap from ANYONE

Scuba - oh sweetie, luv & hugs, you are having a bad ole time. At least you got your scan and DH sorted.

Lilymum - You really are CRAZY, waxing when not preg is bad enough, but when pg, you nutter, are you sadistic

Hana - hello again, not heard too much of Mabel, except for Auntie Mabel & Pippin from Come Outside (Cbeebies),, oooohhhh I watch too much TV. My cousin's little one is Finlay (Fin for short), which is lovely. Pleased you still with us. And I want words, xmas shopping already, you showing the rest of us up, lady.

See Nimme, more waffle and boring the pants (tee hee)

hana · 29/07/2004 22:04

oh yes Lilysmum...waxing. ouch.....have never done my legs, just shave them, but do bikini and eyebrows. First time I had bikini done was just before my wedding - I needed a friend to hold my hand - literally!!

OP posts:
lilymum · 30/07/2004 14:33

hana - must have been a VERY good friend to let them be present when having bikini line done! Have just returned from torture, and actually thought it was quite bearable, but that is I suppose weighed against giving birth 3 times, so lets face it, it was bound to be. Might even be brave and do bikini next time (after stiff drink). Had to have dd1, dd2 and dd3 with me, as no one to leave them with, and was so distracted by what they were up to that I hardly noticed what the beautician was doing. (dd1 very interested and kept staring and asking where all the hair was gone...)

I think Mabel is lovely, old-fashioned, but that's why I like it. Refreshing change to all the Shannons, Megans and Chloes, no offence meant to all those who adore those names, just nice to hear something different.

Oh, and I've started Christmas shopping too, ordered a load of stuff from a couple of toy catalogues at the end of May. dh astounded - I think he thinks I'm crazy.

fortnight · 30/07/2004 23:13

Yes I am still here too! I've been feeling quite tired the past few weeks, probably as I've gone back to work after a few weeks off.
Potpourri-I know what you mean about the appetite -I Can't seem to get enough to eat some days.I am trying to make the healthy choice, but sometimes nothing but a crisp sandwich will do! And then after a couple of eating all around me days, I am noticably bigger.
Nimme and JimJams-I also feel huge, but I think in my case it is definitely my poor abdominal muscles having given up,as I haven't put on that much weight(or maybe I have and I'm in denial,so I can keep on eating...).I think I'll be needing that personal trainer too.
And I'm feeling lots of movement now,and dh even managed to feel one too .

I have my Outlaws coming over, Mother OL is chief cook & bottle washer and Father OL is DS & DH entertainer, me, I'm looking after baby and sleeping

hana · 02/08/2004 08:23

my parents are also planning to come over - this will be the first Christmas away from home for them and also the first one where my brother and sisters have to fend for themselves! DH and I have been alternating between our families for the past 8 years, it will be sooooo nice for someone to come to us instead! We've never had a Christmas in our own house, really really excited about it.
gg - I've started shopping, maybe one you have moved and unpacked a few boxes (or delegated the unpacking you can make a start? Also plan to do some online. Any my parents will take back with them presents for everyone in Canada.
Hope you're all well. I'm nearly nearly 20 weeks now, looking forward to my scan next week.

Ronniebaby - if we're going to have this cat fight it must be whilst I'm pg as my nails are growing phenomenally at the moment What is wrong with dawn (okay 7 am)?? DD wakes up that time every single morning and will of course train baby to wake at the same time very early (ha ha ha......).

Hana - I think Mabel is a lovely name but then I like old fashioned names. We have decided on Josephine - even if MIL doesn't like!) And there is old fashioned and old fashioned - I mean you wouldn't go so far as Gertrud would you?? Also quite fancy Albert which is perhaps a bit ott.

Lilymum - perhaps we're gearing up the pain in preparation for the big one I have booked my first bikini wax for this Friday. Feels slightly insane but would be "nice" as bump is increasingly getting in the way. I have also discovered delux pedicures and maternity massage.

Fortnight - good to hear you're still here (even if you haven't put on a lot of weight). Movements are getting much bigger (or I notice more). She seesm to jig about a lot after meals and early evening - and can actually see some prodding from outside (of course not when DH or DD around , yet).

ggglimpopo - roping sister in to help with cooking and DD entertaining this year. Have you moved?? We have the builders coming in for a 12 week project this week. We must be mad but they assure us they'll be out in time (and we believe them - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...........)

Scubamum - yes he only missed the beginning. If baby did somersault and waving she didn't keep screen still long enough for us to see. I am so glad we had the private scan earlier. Did you have you scan today?

Time for an ice cream on the patio.

scubamum2b · 02/08/2004 16:00

had the scan today

baby was waving arm around when not sucking on thumb. It was amazing - surprised at the amount of detail you can see on the screen as the photos you see never show that amount. All looks healthy (no obvious hole in heart as I have a small one) and we declined to find out the sex.

no ice cream, but I got a jaffa cake that is crying out to be eaten

hana · 02/08/2004 21:26

that's great news Scuba.....it's all getting much closer now, isn't it??

A pregnancy insomnia night for me.... anyone getting that yet? Not helped by ds2 waking up x4times for no apparant reason. Well, at least dh has a day off today. I've got a pilates class to look forward to this morning and a session at the hairdressers this afternoon. Maybe I could drop off while they put in the foils!!
Was inspired by SIL winning Isabella Oliver mat wear so put in an order for myself, so have finally conceeded to some maternity wear on the top half, but still managing to squeeze into my usual clothes on the bottom half with the assistance of those expandable button thingies.
Looking forward to my day off from the kiddies, it will be the first time out for 10days as we've been housebound with chicken pox.
I've also indulged myself with my first bit of pink and girlie stuff for dd as feel less superstitious about it since the scan. Some v cute things in the Petit Bateau sale. Altho' must get myself back under control.....

Glad everyone else's scans are going well, have a good day y'all!

hana · 03/08/2004 10:01

honeybunny - up so early!! I've always been jealous of women who can wear reg clothes with the button expander thingy at the waist - I seem to put weight , no not seem, I DO put weight on on my thighs and nothing fits from before...boo hoo. Please tell me I'm not alone!!!!!!!
Love the things in Petite Bateau - a friend (who is expecting in Jan) and I are planning a day trip to France where it's sold in the big supermarkets. Any truth to that?? Of course can't stock up on wine, maybe champagne to wet the baby's head perhaps....

nimme nimme nimmee!!Jimjams will be getting a torrent of curious e-mails now!!

Hi Ladies - I'm back!!!

Had fabulous wedding (17th July) and great Honeymoon. I managed to get into my dress, and it got the reception I was hoping for as it was a little different (ivory with black beading).

Went to the Red Sea, Egypt. (We had cancelled coz of the pregnancy, but re-booked a week before and definitely benenfited from the rest). The Egyptians working in the hotel were superb and looked after us so well. They were always asking how the babies were! And the airline were great too, they gave us the only spare seat between us to give me more room to move (to help protect against DVT, also I had to take aspirin)

It was 47 degrees the day we left - Wouch!

Then spent a few days in a goregeous country hotel in Somerset... I ate so much for 2 weeks that my tummy was huge after every meal!

Missed the kids by the end, but how lucky were we to have a 2 week break!

Now I'm 18 weeks, and my belly is huge, my tummy button is sticking right out, I'm getting out of breath, and my SPD is really bad already.

But I'm happy to be a married woman at last (I'm 31), I finally found the one!!

Nimme · 03/08/2004 16:26

Hana - I have grovelled to Jimjams

honeybunny · 03/08/2004 17:33

smellymelly-you lucky girl. Sounds like you had a fab time.
hana-we've got a holiday in France to look forward to at the end of August and I plan to search out every baby retail outlet in the area, as well as the supermarkets for more girlie petit bateau stuff! And there was me saying that I wasnt going to go berserk with the pink stuff.

Nimme · 03/08/2004 18:28

Smellymelly - welcome back, good to hear you had great time. Belated congratulations

Can I just have a quick whinge here. Am I the only who finds the elastic/button thing in maternity trousers itchy and irritating!!!

hana · 03/08/2004 18:45

nimme - do you mean the button thing on the sides that you tighten up? I have raw sores from them!!

Hoping that someone will tell me that I've got it all wring...I weighed myself at a friends place this aft and I've just worked out that I've gained about 25 pounds....and I've read that between 10 - 12 is the average for 20 weeks. Oh my god!! I did gain a lot of weight with dd, but didn't think I had already gained this much. With half of the pregnancy left, I'm a bit worried.....was hard enough shifting that weight...
any one else already gained this amount?

Thanks for your message Hana, hanging in there and hoping for news in the next few days!!
Congrats btw Smellymelly!!!!!!!!!

honeybunny · 03/08/2004 20:11

wow hana!! I'm 22/40 and have only put on 5lbs! Put on 16lbs by this time during ds1 pg and did try hard to cut back on some of the sweet things I craved at the time. Maybe the scales were inaccurate at your friend's house! Oddly couldnt eat anything sweet at the beginning of this pg, choccy made me puke!!

hana · 03/08/2004 21:01

the scales must have been wrong...am really worried now

OP posts:
PotPourri · 03/08/2004 23:06

Congrats Smelly melly!!

I've not tried those button things. I don't fit into ANY fo my trousers except a pair of mumsy ones I got when I found out I was pregnant, with an elastic waist. I live in joggy bottoms so feel like a bit of a tramp all the time. I have put on about 10 pounds, but my bump is huge. Luckily the rest of me is not bigger, but I am drinking loads of water so that should help with water retention - which may be the prob hana!!

The heat is a nightmare - mind you we had a mad storm today - there were hailstones and all - and the hailstones were huge bits of ice that I thought were going to break the window they were being chucked from the sky so hard! I got given a seat on the tube yesterday when I went into London, so all in all am feeling quite good about the human race (can't believe how down it makes me feel when people don't give up their seat...)

Hope you're all well girls.
