Welcome to a new space!
I felt the baby move last night....had been getting sharp shooting pains just below my ribs on one side - I couldn't stand so laid down for an hour or so, and then I was entertained. V special isn't it to feel it again?!

Nimme -

My local NCT is fully booked for Ante Natal, but I can go to the post natal one after I've had Roo, like I'm gonna get time. Oh the lovely lady said it's on a weekend, so should be easy, yeh like f*ck it will be I have a 4 yr old DS and a DH, not to mention I'll have Roo too.

I went to parent craft with DS, which was a waste of time anyway, DH said well we've been thru labour once, we should be ok, I said I didnt wanna go to AN to learn anything I wanted to go and make friends "men huh"

Hope all is ok with Everyone.

Welcome to Mummumof2, FionaJT & Portly. This is the dreaded December thread .

Nimme - my waffle over, your turn "xx"

cloudberry · 22/10/2004 13:05

Can I add myself to the list? - due 24th December. It's so nice dipping in here and reading how everyone's getting on. Makes me realise that whatever I'm feeling is pretty normal!! It usually starts getting uncomfortable in the afternoon - a lot of leaning up against right hand side of ribs. No matter how hard I try and push it down, it won't budge! Seems very stubborn.

I'm starting NCT classes next week and have also got NHS classes booked. Which are generally considered to be better? I'm wondering whether 2 lots might be overkill as well. But my sister-in-law suggested NCT more to meet people than for info. I haven't met anyone who is actually having a baby at the same time as me, just have loads of friends and family with small children giving advice. Part of me cringes at the thought of getting involved with classes etc, I've never been a baby sort of person but I know nothing beats being around people going through the same experiences. So I guess here's to having an open mind...!

redshoes · 22/10/2004 17:06

cloudberry I thought the nct classes were fantastic for meeting people - I made some really close friends from my first two pregnancies and I am sad that I didn't have the time/excuse to attend for my third and fourth!

BambiBE · 22/10/2004 17:09

Hi, have added myself to updated list. I am so glad to only have 2 more weeks at work left as I am getting vv tired, getting up 5/6 times a night is not usual for me, I know it's said that it prepares you for getting up with a baby but surely a well rested mum to be would have been a better idea for mother nature!

You forgot me georginars 31/12.....

Just about caught up with everyone. Still haven't got round to joining the NCT. Was thinking of doing bumps and babies when both boys are at school/nursery, but perhaps I'll try and take ds2 to something. Had a vile meeting at ds1's school yesterday (statement reveiw). Hasn't helped with getting back to sleep when getting up in the night.

PotPourri · 25/10/2004 16:06

Hi chicks,

Had my Antenatal appointment (34 weeks +5) and it was useless. I had a student midwife - not a problem in itself, but she was so lacking in confidence that it was all 'I think ...' 'I;ve heard that happens in pregnancy...'. I.e. I felt I wasn't talking to someone who knew more than me. Oh well. Will talk about my birth plan at the next appointment in 3 weeks. I got my anti D again (ouch - what a massive needle, and I have a huge bump on my arm now - what a wuss!).

How is everyone else doing? We have a nice big group now! Can't wait til we get closer to the birth and we all start talking about the head being engaged etc. Not too long now...

Who's got the baby name sorted then? We are getting no where on that. We just can't decide. I have got names I would like, but DH is still deciding. I reckon we will just wait until we meet him/her and then decide.

georginars · 25/10/2004 17:42

Sorry jimjams - didn't forget you, you just weren't on Nimme's list which is what I amended with my dates plus the others who'd just posted. glad to see you on there now anyway.
I am feeling really grumpy today as inlaws stayed at the weekend and got on my nerves, also wasn't feeling that well. Winge, winge. Refuse to believe there's 5 weeks left of this, I'm trying to talk the baby into coming early.
We start NCT this Wednesday, only 4 classes so it'll all be over in 8 days! hope we make some friends - I've really got the fear about it now. The hospital classes don't start until Nov 8th and there are only 3. I don't know which are better cloudberry, will let you know, but think a lot of it is down to luck unfortunately. I've also been to one of a 4 week course with a health visitor, it was pretty good but I have to miss next week.
Pot Pourri, was the student midwife just on her own then? I've had them sit in, but not do the whole appointment on their own - how annoying. I had a growth scan at 30 wks and the scanner was being examined - so there were 2 women in there questioning everything he did and then reassuring me when he said he thought he'd found something wrong (there wasn't anything wrong at all). It was grim and took over an hour by which point I was a bit of a cripple from lying down - don't think I'd say yes to that again.
And yes, we have names chosen but we're keeping them secret. I can't help hoping we have a girl as the girl name is much more interesting than the boy one! How shallow....

Nimme · 25/10/2004 18:09

Now now georginars and jimjams - you were supposed to add yourselves to the list (so I didn't have to trawl back)

"Accidently" ventured into Petit Bateau today - oops (and GAP but at least they had a sale on!) Now only need a sleepsuit or two - and some socks and a hat, I think. I have absolutely forgotten what I need/used.

Got a little stroppy with builders today - not sure that it'll help things along (probably quite reverse) but I'm getting impatient. I want to get into that nursery and start arranging furniture and clean and fold clothes and put the nappies in a nice pile and and and... Definitely nesting overload

Don't start me on in-laws georginars. My MIL is planning big party next year - she is already fretting over everything and I have no patience to deal with all right now. Have got myself roped in to do the invites and volunteered to house SIL (whom I really don't like). Major GROAN.

Janos · 26/10/2004 17:45

Ooh, haven't posted here for ages but now I'm on ML I'll be able to check in more often. It's really great to hear how everyone is getting on. December seems so close doesn't it? even more for me as my due date is the 1st!

At my last antenatal appointment (34 weeks) I was apparently measuring 38 cms. Yikes. I'm really, really hoping that I don't go overdue as g*d knows what size I'll be by then.

Roll on December!

Ronniebaby · 26/10/2004 22:43

Janos - when you due, copy the list and add yourself

PotPourri · 27/10/2004 11:25

Am on for a whinge. We went to the hospital antenatal class last night. It was the first one, the room wasn't even set up, and no midwife turned up for 45 minutes. And she was from another team (we are team A apparently) and had been dragged out of theatre. She talked through all sorts, in a really unstructured way, telling us how painful it will be and how they don't really want to hear from us unless we are in established labour. Oh and new mums apparently have 12 hour labours - 8 hours is really quick, and over 50% tear. Great eh? Thank goodness I signed up to NCT as I had already covered all of this at that class, AND at NCT we got to introduce ourselves and start making friends. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I won't be going back to the hospital ones. Was really freaked out (having been getting quite scared about labour you see).

Georginars - yes, the student midwife did the whole appointment by herself, it is apparently her last placement before qualifying - but she was so surprised with everything that I told her (nose bleeds, kicking in the ribs) that I just decided I'm a lucky girl to have such a 'normal' pregnancy and got myself out of there as quick as I could. She wasn't even sure what way the baby was lying (thought that was something they were trained on). Would hate to think what it would be like if I needed special support. (Boo hiss to West Mid)

Have updated the list with Janos. Ooooooh, that means there are 5 of us due in the first week in Dec. Wonder who will go first!

Getting closer girls. I can't wait til we get to November and our babies will be due 'next month'!

georginars · 27/10/2004 11:58

Yuk PotPourri, the West Mid classes sound rubbish, ours don't start til Nov 8th, sounds like we'd better not expect too much out of them!
And OVER 50% TEAR??? that sounds like loads to me.
NCT classes start tonight so hope they will be OK and I won't spread my tonsillitis to everyone and make myself really unpopular....
Supremely awful day yesterday culminating in the dreaded inlaws ringing up and ranting at DH for an hour because he was not affectionate enough over the weekend/didn't have any biscuits in bla bla bla - no idea what they were on about and am so furious had to be restrained from ringing them up and telling them not to come down for the birth on the grounds of being both mad and spiteful. Still fuming now. I am going to have to say something this time...dreading it but they have really upset DH and he would never say anything back - which is what they're trading on.
Rant over. Bagsy me first for giving birth!

Janos · 27/10/2004 14:22

Potpourri that sounds awful!! Not wahat you wantto hear when you are anxious about labour, must admit I am feeling very nervous about the prosepct of tearing/stitching etc almost more so than the actual giving birth! I suppose for me it's the thought of not being the 'same' afterwards.

I'm glad the NCT classes are going better though, I'm enjoying mine although all the mums and dads seem to be a lot older than me - and I'm 30.

BT Georginars bagsy me first. I am HUGE like you wouldn't believe! You have my sympathy with the in-laws. They sound like a right PITA. No biscuits? Go out and buy your own f'in biscuits -for goodness sake!

hana · 27/10/2004 14:27

pp - that's awful. I had dd there and will have this one there too.....I would certainly say something either phoning up or writing a letter, they certainly shouldn't be saying those sorts of things to first time (or 2nd or 3rd...) mums. I didn't do any NCT classes first time, but am doing a 'refresher' class that starts next week. Eek!
quite exciting to see all the names and dates, really not long to go. I'm right at the tail end.....don't really want at 2005 baby!
Welcome to all the newbies and hope the next few weeks are wonderful ones....

OP posts:
redshoes · 27/10/2004 16:38

potpourri there are 'grades' of tears - I've had a small (1st degree) tear with all three of mine yet it never needed stitching and seemed to heal immediately...so if the 50% includes those it's not too bad! What an awful intro tho' - I think the main use of ante-natal classes is to make friends for yourself and your db...sounds like you didn't get much of a chance of that there! The NCT will be v. different I'm sure x

Brightrider · 27/10/2004 17:19

At the risk of being repetitive I have just found this thread and I am also due in December. Christmas day in fact.
So I have added myself to the list with Hana and FionaJT, do you two really think that the babies will come on Christmas day?
Just beginning to hit me that it is really going to happen....... first time Mum at 38 !!!!

hi brightrider, welcome to mumsnet, that's 3 of us on Xmas Day now! My first was 2 days late, but labour started on her due date.....who knows? we've invited people over for dinner that day with the understanding that I do nothing!! And they can take turns to look after dd as well
was thinking about what the midwife said potpourri - I also tore, but didn't need stitches, it was quite minor. Sore for a bit, but no stitches. That midwife is making me angry!

OP posts:
FionaJT · 27/10/2004 17:31

Hi, mine's my first so I'm banking on it being a little late. Plus I'm sure of the date of conception and working from that it would be due on the 30th. So I'm hoping to get my Christmas dinner in!

Nimme · 27/10/2004 20:03

PP - I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with midwife. FWIW I tore a little with DD (in and out) but didn't really feel it. Had epidural so didn't feel stitching. Was sore afterwards but reckon you cannot squeeze a baby out that way without some soreness!
I was also quite worried about the visual side of things and got DH to check it it looked "normal" a bit later on. I weed in shower the first few days as I was terrified the stiches would hurt (I am a BIG wuz).

A friend of mine gave birth recently with only cosmetic stitching. According to midwife all down to her listening (and doing) what midwife said. Hopefully you'll have a nice one who you will feel will be on your side.

Just finished refresher course with NCT - very good. Much better than I thought. Now as for the health visitor run one....argh!!!!

Nimme · 27/10/2004 20:04

Sorry PP - realise some of my last post was really aimed at Janos, well I am pregnant

Ronniebaby · 27/10/2004 23:20

Hiya Ladies - I was cut instead of tearing, and after I was advised that when I went to the loo instead of wiping myself with loo roll etc, use a shower or a cup of water and wash myself then pat dry, this really did help. Also bath with Lavender oil in the bath, helps soothe stitches etc.

At my first parentcraft with DS we were told soo much that wasnt relevant, I just prepared myself with everything I could, but what you were told was terrible.

Nimme - wow you preggo, I'd never have guessed just thought you hijacked this thread

Jimjams · 28/10/2004 16:04

Aha it's started! Platelets are dropping and drs getting over-excited. This happened in ds1's pregnancy. Platelets also dropped in ds2's pregnancy- but because I was at the same hospital my consultant was very relaxed about it that time. Different hospital this time so back to the heamatologist- even though I've told them all pregnancy they'll drop - they always do- but I've never bled very much.

The annoying thing is I was hoping to persuade them to do the section after xmas (at just under 40 weeks) but this coupled with them curretly being sued for a lot of money for a ruptured uterus means I'm sure they'll want to section me before Xmas. Damn!

Mind you if ds1 carries on as he is, and the school continue to give us lots of stress I'm sure I'll go into early labour anyway!

vimptohead · 29/10/2004 09:45

Hey all,

Sorry to hi-jack, im sure you wont mind, but i'm another xmas dater!! i've added myself to the list but im not sure when it'll get here - when it does i suppose.

Anybody know what they're having or are we all waiting for a nice suprise?

Apparently, the sonographer was 90% sure mine's a girl, but the umbilical cord was in the way so wouldn't guaruantee!
