So, I'm in hospital and have been since Saturday!
TL;DR:
- In hospital with necrotic myoma, on strong arse opiats and here until myoma has fully necrotised and pain over.
- Baby fine but likely to be preterm at around 35-37 weeks so plans to be made as such.
Full version:
- Pain started Friday, nasty nasty by Saturday morning
- Midwife came Saturday morning and ruled out pre term labour and said baby fine, go to emergency clinic to test for bladder infection
- Nearest clinic is my local hospital. After 6 hours of benign passed from pillar to post I was sent to the labour ward with an arguement ongoing between suspected appendicitis and necrosis of the myoma
- Once in labour ward real care begun, these ladies are fantastic
- Had abdominal ultrasound Saturday evening followed by CT scan at midnight. All clear on appendicitis but my temperature was rising and my blood was showing signs of infection
- After a couple of days of experimenting with different pain meds (opiats), many blood tests and another ultrasound yesterday morning with appendicitis on the cards again it was decided I definitely have necrosis of the myoma. No treatment can be given, only pain management.
- After the pain breaking through the opiats yesterday I'm on some really strong ones that I cannot remember the proper name of but it sounds like Dippy Delores, a drag queen. Given how stoned the make me this seems about right!
- I now have to stay in hospital and sit it out until it finishes necrotising. Pain management has to be done here due to strength of drugs.
Baby is fine and doing really well. However, they think that at some time between 35-37 weeks my uterus will say 'okay, I'm big enough, time to come out' so we will have to prep for pre term labour. There are also many decisions to be made on treatment after the birth which is affected by desire for more kids, but we've agreed to leave that until after the birth!
So, really not an easy pregnancy so far and these last few days have been exceptionally emotional and difficult for DH and I. Having the pain under control helps a lot so now it's a case of sitting it out and agreeing a new care and prep plan. The nurses and docs on the expectant/new mothers ward are bloody angels. I have never had such excellent care and will be writing into the hospital to tell them so, as well as baking them a big batch of brownies when I get home!
