ejt1764 · 21/04/2007 17:19

Happy Saturday everybody!

lackingnicknameinspiration (I'll call you lnni from now) - welcome!! lovely to see you on this thread too! you need to get one of buffy's children to come up with a nickname for you - it'll make you giggle if nothing else. By the way, my scan date gave 28th September, but by my dates (and I know when I ovulated) it's 2nd October, so that's the date I'm using!!

honeyapple - me too - I'm having the bright (and I mean bright!) yellow pee - I drink loads, so I don't thin it's that - most bizarre. Also me too on the hairiness front but mine is on my ..... nipples AAAAAAAGGGGHH! (very attractive as you can imagine!)

greedy, kezza & lnni - you can all have a meet-up - there's nobody near me [boo hoo]

j20 - I haven't bought any clothes yet, but I have bought wool to make this one a blanket - the main colour is a peacock variegated green and blue (lovely - don't like pastels much anyway!)

Apologies for cross posting (those on the pg after mc thread, skip this bit), but this really upset me ...

Well, I went into school this afternoon to do the handover - it was lovely to be in and I'm looking forward to being back in work next week. I went in to see the 'lovely' deputy head (she of making me feel guilty because the supply teacher covering for me had had a family emergency and wasn't there ...) Conversation went as follows:

me: Hi _
dephead: hi. Have you got your note?
me: yes it's in my diary in the staff room - do you need it, or should I give it to AB? (admin lady)
dephead: I need it. So, how are you?
me: ok - still puking first thing, so it's wise not to ask me anything first thing, as I'm not at my best.
dephead: it's not going to have an effect on your attendance, is it?
me: no, I hope not.
dephead: good. and the blood pressure?
me: still dropping like a stone unexpectedly. there's nothing I can do about it.
dephead: and what effect will that have on your attendance?
me: hopefully none.
dephead: well. I have to tell you that there's bad feeling amongst the staff because you went to Dubai during the Easter break, while you were on sick leave. Did you know?
me: no, I had no idea. Can you tell me who feels like that?
dephead: I can't do that, but I have to tell you that most of the staff feel aggrieved.
me (getting a bit upset): well, I booked it last August - my travel insurance wouldn't let me cancel as the docsaid I was ok to travel.
dephead: well it waasn't a terribly good idea to go, was it?
me: speechless.
dephead: well, if that's all, I have to see someone else now - make sure you're in first thing Monday morning.
me: ok. bye

now, I didn't expect her to jump over the desk and give me a hug or anything, but what you can't get from that was her tone of voice... it was so nasty!

I went and spoke to a couple of my (closest) colleagues - and they've heard no rumblings at all - they think that someone has gone in and done a bit of bitching. I was really upset - it makes me wonder why I'm bothering to go back in.

I'm going to write my official letter now to hand in on Monday morning informing them of my pregnancy - and requesting an urgent H&S risk assessment ... I feel like I need to cover my back!

Why on earth am I going back when I'm still being very sick? Because my students have got exams coming up and I feel a sense of responsibility to them ....

Sorry, just needed to offload.

Hi, honeyapple not sure about the 16 weeks but they always change my dates, still don't see how with DS2 or this one !

Unfort I have got bad sciatica again. Had it when preg with DS2 and after he was born. Been up last 3 nights in agony that I couldn't lay down or sit. Doc has given me morphine as Co-odemol isn't working this time. Only taken at night and trying to manage on paracetamol during the day (with difficulty).

Seeing consultant on 17/5 re what is going to happen this time!!!!!!

I have put half a stone on so far!!

maisym · 21/04/2007 23:14

gosh ejt - would say hold your head high. Check on harassment issues here as you're preg and it sounds like you're being picked on for this.

honeyapple · 22/04/2007 10:03

Hiya,

ejt- that doesnt sound good, poor you. I would have burst into tears in my hormonal state. Good to hear that your nice colleagues are behind you though.

DP won't even consider discussing names until we have had the 20 wk scan. He really wants to know the sex... I think he has forgotten that they couldnt tell with DD cos she had her legs crossed. I want to talk about baby stuff but he just doesnt seem very interested yet. Have to get my fix from my MIL as she is the only one to be baby crazy at the moment. I feel a bit like I am boring everyone else!

ejt- was it you who said you were doing yoga? I have never done any, but am quite keen to join a pre-natal class. Any thoughts? Anyone else planning on doing any pre-natal activities?

Apricott · 22/04/2007 13:27

Hi!

Can I join in too?? DH discovered MN while researching buggies etc (bless him!) and I thought I'd have a look too.

ejt - I'm in South Wales too, so you're no longer alone, though I gather from browsing that you're further east than I am. Sorry to hear about return to work - try to take no notice, I'd say.

Baby due mid October. I'm still being sick, I'm sure it wasn't like this last time though that was so long ago I can barely remember the details ('cept the giving birth bit, that tends to stick in the mind!). DD now 12, going on 17. It's going to be strange having a wee one around again.

Re yoga - I bought a book I really like - Francoise Barbira Freedman, Yoga for Pregnancy Birth and Beyond, DK. I'm going to join a local class too, in hope of meeting other expecting mums, as well as getting toned and supple (well maybe).

ejt1764 · 22/04/2007 19:45

Hi all, happy Sunday,

Thank you so much for your supportive comments - I had stewed on this, and was quite worried - didn't know whether this was my pg brain talking and getting me quite upset, or whether I was right to be upset. The problem is that I find this woman quite intimidating at the best of times - she has a reputation at work for being somewhat insensitive! Think of me tomorrow!

jersey - you poor thing with the sciatica! I suffer from coccyx pain, and am starting to get the first twinges of spd again this pg, and it's so uncomfortable - is there any chance of you being referred for obstetric physio?

honeyapple - yes, I am doing yoga - I've gone back to my old class (my teacher doesn't like you to go in first trimester). I'm also going to suss out antenatal yoga classes - the problem is that they're going to be a drive away - and I'm dreadful at getting myself out of the house in the evening - once I'm home, that's it! I'm amazed that I've kept going to my Welsh lessons through the winter ... mind you, they're an early evening thing: 6.30 - 8.30, so I can eat dinner, and go straight out. I only manage to get to yoga bacause it's a 2-minute walk from my house! No excuses!
I'm also going to go to aquanatal classes this time - they'll help with the spd! I found this site gave a lot of info about classes - my nearest is in Barry - I'll go later on this summer, when school isn't quite so intense!

Apricott - Welcome! It's good to see a fellow South Wales person! Are you as far West as Swansea?

Right, am going to do as much prep as possible for tomorrow tonight - will sort my lunch out, have a shower, and put my clothes out .... must not let dephead get to me!

love to all!

Hi all

just had a really quick scan of latest posts as I have been away this weekend.

ejt, that woman sounds awful. she obviously has no experience of what you are going through at all. As for going on holiday while signed off sick....well I agree its not a good idea to be seen to be out partying while signed off, but having a relaxing holiday can actually be beneficial, and with the symptoms you had teaching was just impossible but why should you not be able to get away and relax. People who gossip like that at work really annoy me, it just shows they have nothing better to do than judge other people.

Inni, Im in Epping too. How weird, it always makes me a bit nervous when I hear people live that locally to me on here as I wonder if I have already met them and we didnt get on but didnt know (does that make sense).

My exeprience of PAH was fine. I was in 3 days with a section but all the MWs were good and I found the support afterwards really good. Are you going to St Margarets for any scans or appointments? LOL about the teenagers greedy, I had to fight my way past hoards of waiting oiks wearing burberry caps while having contractions. Why do people feel the need to bring their entire extended family to wait outside while they are in labour?

Nose bleeds and snoring still ongoing, hairiness no thanks goodness, weight gain about a stone (she says eating a toblerone!) anyone else get weird skin tags and moles? I did last time and have just got some now. Isnt pregnancy flattering.

hope everyone with headaches starts to feel better soon and welcome to everyone new to the thread.

greedy and Inni, are we brave enough for a meet up????

maisym · 22/04/2007 23:05

is there a stats thread with due dates & if we have other kids?

maisym · 22/04/2007 23:06

just found it!!!

maisym · 22/04/2007 23:06

just found it!!!

Tallis · 23/04/2007 08:24

Hi all, haven't had a chance to post in recent days as four friends have been staying with us in Rome - and just when I was about to come over all smug about having no headaches (despite my sister suffering throughout her three pgs), well, WALLOP! A humdinger left me flat out the whole of Sat pm and night, plus Sun morning. Perhaps it was trying on unflattering maternitywear in Benetton (incl Greenham Common-style dungarees "for a laugh") that did it. DH had to cook dinner for 8 while I lay moaning in the bedroom with wet cottonwool over my eyes. Someone suggested arnica: is that safe when I'm only 14+4? And would it work anyway?

Am trying to find midwives etc in Rome. You'd think, given the Italian-love-of-babies thing, there'd be loads. But not who speak English, sadly. And my Italian's all about pizzas and ice-cream, not ultrasounds and fluorescent wee (yes). As for weight gain, see earlier ref to pizza and ice-cream...

MrsFish · 23/04/2007 08:47

Kezza - I have been getting extra skin tags and moles too, did with ds too. Oh the joys...

buffythenappyslayer21 · 23/04/2007 10:01

morning all!!you lot have been busy!just had a quick catch up through all the posts!!

ive been getting really bad back ache and am worried sick that its the start of spd again (had it bad last time round).got a support belt but mw told me not to wear it just yet as i will get to reliant on it.

got a doppler doodah off ebay, its fab!!me and dh have been listening in on our lo!most of the time all you find is placenta noise (swooshing) and when you do find the babys heartbeat,he (or she) moves away!!little monkey!!!

still having nosebleeds, headaches and ms every now and again.knew it was tempting fate by bragging how well i felt!!

have a great monday everyone!!

Tallis · 23/04/2007 10:44

Buffy, I thought you couldn't use them until 20 weeks? i'd love to get one but am only 14 and a half weeks. I keep panicking that nothing's happening down there because the morning sickness has gone and although my tummy is swelling I feel it could easily be my eating that's doing it! Would love to hear a heartbeat. How many weeks gone are you?

Mumpbump · 23/04/2007 11:37

Morning all and welcome (and congratulations!) to Lacking and Apricott! Sorry to be cr*p, but don't have time to catch up on all the goings on. All is well with me - baby is quite quiet at the moment after a couple of really active days last week, so I am hoping that this is an indication of the laid-back character of our little one! Ds was active both in utero and post-partum!! Wishful thinking on my part, but you never know... Feeling much more energetic nowadays, but getting tired if I overdo it. I spent Saturday morning weeding our front garden and had to go to bed for a snooze in the afternoon! Dh is being lovely and taking ds off my hands a bit though, so can't complain too much...

Hope everyone is well and will try to get back up to speed with what everyone is doing!!

J20BABY · 23/04/2007 17:10

hi everyone, hope all is well with you all, feeling crap today, had a bad headache (still) and pains in my stomach and back, i think its wind.

poor you ejt, how inconsiderate!! don't let it get you down

think i may be moving soon, i had a visit on fri from a woman at the council with regards to being moved due to the harrasment issues from my ex, and she said it was quite a serious threat, and i rung her today, and she said she's got a 3 bedroomed house for me in the next few weeks
am really happy, but not allowed to tell anybody in rl apart from people i trust, that'll be 1 person then! but i can tell all you

Pheebe · 23/04/2007 17:55

Tallis
I've been using our doppler since 7 weeks. Its tough to find babys hb that early but entirely possible with alot of patience and time (something mws don't usually have which is why there's a general misconception that you can't hear the hb that early). You have to remember that not finding it doesn't necessarily mean anything but finding it is the best feeling ever. It was a godsend in my first pregnancy as I'd had loads of mc before then and was utterly paranoid.

LackingNicknameInspiration · 23/04/2007 19:36

That's the last time I go away for a weekend, am never going to get through all those threads!!

Just thought I'd hop on quickly to say hello as still stuck at work (I cannot believe the difficulties I am having pinning someone down to tell them I'm pg - once it's done I'm off at 5.30 every night though )- and thanks for the feedback Greedy and Kezza on Harlow (and sadly, I'm a long way from 14 years old....). All sounded quite encouraging. I live in Theydon Bois, so am having my antenatal checks at St Margaret's in Epping(well, one so far) and then my scan is at Harlow. I think I also have to see a consultant at Harlow at some point (was heading nicely for the low-risk category until my mum's obstetric history intervened!). but nothing for a few weeks, so I almost keep forgetting about it until I go home!

I'd definitely be on for a meet-up although might not manage it for a few weeks - seem to have a few weekends away and weeknights a bit tricky due one-hour commute - but some time soon if we can manage would be good!

Ah well, off to shuffle some more paper in a meaningful fashion....

betsycoe · 23/04/2007 21:28

Hi Greedy,
I was away all weekend so just seen the posts. Yes, osteopathy has been a god send. My doctor just told me to take paracetamol, keep my legs together when getting out of bed and walk everywhere slowly (something I can't do). Luckily, I've been going to my osteopath for a while and he knows I struggle to stay inactive. He's worked his magic and I'm still able to do most things without too much pain.

I hope your pain is getting better. Even if you don't find a reason at least it should clear up once your little one arrives!

Hi to all the new people on the thread!

BloomingBennett · 23/04/2007 22:18

hi all Can I join your group too? Im due the 9th october with my first. The same date as you j20 hope you are feeling better by the way.

hope all is well with you all

buffythenappyslayer21 · 24/04/2007 09:43

tallis, the one ive got is off ebay, and says you can hear baby from 12 weeks.heres the number 170103709928

sorry no good at doing links!!!

Tallis · 24/04/2007 10:01

Buffy, that's really kind many thanks. I can't do links either. I was just about to say I'd seen one on the Blooming Marvellous site for 29.99 called something like Listen To Your Baby, but that's 21-weeks recommended. this eBay one looks much better. By the way, my doc told me that Tom Cruise apparently bought a full-on ultrasound machine so they could monitor Katie Holmes's baby when she was pregnant! Have now found English-speaking babydoc in Rome and seeing him Thurs morning so that's a relief.
