aw pheebe, poor you, take a deep breath, and deal with it tommorrow.

Gem not got a cold, but nose bleeds are getting worse.

greedy i've had an ongoing headache for 6 weeks now, had a break of about a week, then they came back with a vengance, doctor keeps giving my co-codomol which i try not to take too often, and they don't really work anyway!

everybody, just had a meeting with some ladies from surestart, and i think i may be getting a doula, woohoo!!!

gemmamc · 19/04/2007 15:16

pheebe - I am sorry you feel like that, but you should try to put it into perspective.

She gave you a pager and mobile number....for a start...

I haven't been given that - just a general hospital number to call, where I assume many different midwives work. I am not even sure I will see the same mw at every appointment - that was certainly not made clear to me. And I have to book all scan, hospital appointments myself, etc.

It looks like the service you get may not be as bad as you think. You may also be feeling a bit down because of the hormones. They can do that.

Take care of yourself. I hope you'll feel better soon.

(((((((((Big Hugs))))))

greedy can sympathise with the ehadaches,im still getting them.been taking paracetamol, but they dont do anything,so back to suffering!!

gem,im nit sure if ive got a cold or what!my nose is bunged up one minute, running the next.alo constantly sneezing, and am really snotty all day!(sorry if tmi!!)i thought it might be hayfever, but not sure if its too early for that just yet (get itchy runny eyes aswell)

j20,snap with the nose bleeds!had one at teh garage the other day when i went with dh to take car for the mot.nose just started pouring,ad horrified mechanic didnt knwo what to do!i ended up saying "its ok im pregnant" like taht explains everything!!felt a right idiot!!

ejt1764 · 19/04/2007 17:39

pheebe -sorry to hear your mw has resigned - it's difficult when you've built up any sort of a bond with someone. FWIW they have to give you the name of your new named mw.

I've been getting icky headaches - thankfully the acupuncturist was able to sort them out for me yesterday - I can't take anything for them as I'm throwing up paracetemol the minute it hits my stomach ... nice! I've run out of nux vom too - another trip to the chemist methinks!

As for the weight - I went and weighed myself just for you this morning - I've put on 14lbs so far (am 17 weeks tomorrow) - but I'm not that bothered - I've been that sick that I've just had to eat what I fancied, when I fancied it! I've lost my baby weight once, so I can do it again ... as long as the powers that be don't start niggling over my weight, then I'm not really that bothered. I'm really enjoying not having to hold my stomach in for once!!

Going into work tomorrow for a hand over - and to suss out whether the lady who's been covering for me would be interested in covering my maternity leave! It's really bizarre, one of the teachers in the department is retiring, so I have to interview for her job - and I have to find my replacement for next year (not physically, but I'll be interviewing them, which is a bizarre thought!)

Have a lovely Thursday night - I'm going to yoga tonight - my teacher doesn't allow me to do yoga until 14 weeks, and this is the 1st week back after the holidays - I'm really looking forward to it!

hey pheebe, my mw has left too! where do you live? i was gutted cos she was a superstar and i loved her and could talk to her about ANYTHING! (orgasms mainly at my last visit, as i said on another thread!) i had a really nice relationship with her and its such a shame she has gone. i will probably have an old dragon instead!

Pheebe · 19/04/2007 18:13

Hi greedy, I live in tean near stoke on trent. Feeling better now as we've had a lovely afternoon. Scans booked, what will be will be. I have a mw and numbers to call so I guess I am lucky in that respsect, its just all so different from last time when I had the best mw in the world and she looked after me so well.

MrsFish · 19/04/2007 18:23

When I had ds my initial mw left the job and I was gutted as she was lovely, it then followed that each time I saw someone they were different, not great, but not bad either. Things seem to have settled down now though and I have the one midwife which is much better

mandler · 19/04/2007 19:20

I had a terrible booking in appointment with a community midwife at my GPs. She wanted me out so quickly that she refused to answer any questions - just wanted to get the forms done in half an hour! So I am incredibly jealous of phone numbers and pagers - at 14 weeks I still feel pretty much on my own....

ejt1764 · 19/04/2007 19:40

Mandler - that's dreadful! Well, we'll try to answer your questions if you have any ...

mandler · 19/04/2007 19:51

I don't know how I would have got through the first trimester without Mumsnet! My DH is trying to convince me to complain to the GP but I am paranoid that a midwife mafia will make the rest of the pg hell!

asur · 19/04/2007 20:19

Hi ladies. I have no idea how much weight I've put on - never weigh myself, ever! Last time I was weighed was at my booking in appointment with DS (which I found a bit stupid, it was to work out my BMI but being that I was 18weeks, didn't seem worthwhile..) I do look like I've put on quite a bit although I don't think I have - I'm pushing my belly out quite a bit, fed up holding it in but if I don't push it out, I just look fat and not pregnant! does that make sense?!

I'm so glad some of you have been speaking about headaches - I've had a nasty headache on and off for the past week, never occured to me that it could be pg related. Nice to know that others are suffering too though (IFYKWIM )

I took DS swimming today - was so nice to float in the pool for a while... Think I might look into aquanatal classes in the area.

gemmamc · 19/04/2007 20:29

madler - yes you can say that out loud. Mumsnet is saving the NHS a lot of money! Otherwise we would be going to the GP a lot more often I think!!

But I really do think that pregnant women in the first trimester should not be made to feel so much left to themselves. I also wonder what people without internet access do about finding out what not to eat, etc...I spend so much time looking things up on the web!

gemmamc · 19/04/2007 20:29

sorry about the spelling mistake - mandler!

marieg76 · 20/04/2007 12:30

AFternoon all. I've put on 5lbs and am 15+3 - I was a little podgy before getting pregnant (damn you Christmas!) - a size 14 but not very toned and sometimes only just size 14!

I've been having bad headaches too and - TMI ALERT! - always have really dark wee. I drink about 2 litres of water a day too so I don't get it. I've upped to 3 litres today to see if that gets rid of my headaches figuring I might be dehydrated.

HAve a lovely weekend all.

betsycoe · 20/04/2007 12:34

Hi Mandler,
you are not alone. My booking appointment was supposed to last 1.5 hours. As soon as I walked through the door the midwife (bearing in mind this is the first time I'd seen her) said she only had 30 minutes to spare! That was over 3 weeks ago. I've left a number of messages for her to contact me as I'm not sure when I'm supposed to see her again (now almost 17 weeks).

I had an appointment with a lovely independant midwife last night as I want a home birth. I'm just trying to work out if it is worth the expense to hire one. The thought of having someone I know do all my check ups at home, be there for the birth and look after me for 8 weeks after is a major selling point!

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/04/2007 14:06

hi betsycoe - i didnt realise you were on this thread, although i thought your name was familiar! you responded to one of my moans about pain down the legs on another thread! thanks! glad the osteopath is helping you and making you feel better

PolarMummy · 20/04/2007 15:56

Hi Everyone and welcome to anyone who is new You lot have been a chatty lot recently! I go away from Mumsnet for a couple of days and it has just taken me ages to read through everything, I think the moral of this story is to never go away from Mumsnet again

As for the weight gain thing I have actually lost about 8lbs since becoming pregnant, mind you I am a complete hefer and could do with loosing a lot of weight!

Hope everyone is felling Ok, especially as it is the weekend, fingers crossed the sun will keep shining for the next couple of days at least.

LackingNicknameInspiration · 20/04/2007 19:06

Can I join in please??

ejt suggested I come and join you - took me a while to track down these threads, clearly not spending nearly enough time here! And think will take even longer to go through the thread, so thought I'd jump on and then go through! Look forward to doing so.

I feel a slight imposter, as my DD is officially 29 Sept but am CONVINCED that is 6 Oct (I've never had a 28 day cycle...). So that's what I'm going for.

It's my first one, I'm currently 16 weeks and have next scan on 23 May - I'm based near Epping and am currently pencilled in for PA in Harlow - pencilled in merely because my experiences of it to date have been uniformly awful. Although have no idea what they're like for maternity so if anyone has any experience, please shout out - or if you know anything about Whipps Cross that would also be helpful, as I want to stay NHS and think they're my only realistic options.

Hope it's going well for you all!

MrsFish · 20/04/2007 19:24

Welcome

honeyapple · 20/04/2007 20:19

Evening all.

I looked into an independant MW because I really want a homebirth- but i was by the cost... like thousands of pounds... fortunately I think my NHS MW is pro-homebirth. So far I have only seen one of her colleagues from another practice and she was very positive about homebirth. So fingers crossed. Have my proper booking in appointment on 25th April- they only schedule it for 30 mins.

LackingNameInspiration- (maybe we can help with a name!!) have you had a scan yet? This would help with dating. I think a lot of us are convinced of different EDD than those given by GP/MW.

I too have got really yellow pee at the moment! Also have been getting quite hairy... found some growing up my tummy...YIKES! Quickly plucked those cheeky devils.... definitely need some attention downstairs.

J20BABY · 20/04/2007 20:20

hi everyone hope your all well, hi newbie

had my scan date changed to 15 may, haven't got time to update properly, will do when i get chance, just thought i'd let you know

glad its 2 days earlier and not later, i'm far too impatient

MrsFish · 20/04/2007 20:41

Same as me are you going to find out the sex?

maisym · 20/04/2007 22:24

buffy - I'm on 100 units to start & I'll have a check in 2 weeks. They say I'll have a blood test every 4 weeks from & even whilst bf afterwards. Then once I'm not bf I'll have to have a scan to see if I'll need to keep taking the thyroxine but the docor thought it likely.

I've not dared weight myself!! I'll wait for my appointment to be surprised. I gain loads whilst preg but that's the way it is for me & bf uses it up afterwards.

greedygreedyguzzler · 21/04/2007 10:32

lackingnicknameinspiration (you HAVE to get a shorter name!) i am going to PAH hospital too! and so is kezza who is on this thread! its all a bit spooky actually cos my edd has been changed to 30th sept and i am convinced it is 5th oct, and kezzas edd has been changed too and i think she was originally 4th oct! (there you go! spooky or what!)

i have had both my previous kids at PAH and have never had any problems with giving birth there. the antenatal care beforehand seemed a bit disorganised and there was a definate lack of communication between the community midwives and the hospital based ones. but i found the actual hospital fine! apart from all the 14 year old girls standing around outside smoking inbetween contractions! (you're not one of them are you???)

whereabouts near epping are you? i am in sawbridgeworth!

greedygreedyguzzler · 21/04/2007 10:34

lacking - my next scan is the same day as yours! is yours at PAH? mine is at 3pm!
