With my first 2 pregnancies the nuchal measurement couldn't be taken to position baby was in and wriggling etc.
I declined the quad as the results weren't through until 20wks... I cried a lot over it with my first as no way could I terminate at 20wks when I could feel a baby moving inside me.
They should offer the harmony test on NHS or something else if the nuchal can't be done xx

Skisunsnow · 06/05/2017 09:46

I hadn't realised it was such a thing, but clearly there's a lot of ladies affected, with them not offering second scans in the first trimester any more, when the first isn't successful to get the NT measurements. Hope you all get sorted and get your results ASAP.

Foggymist · 06/05/2017 15:26

Lydia I've been going for 30-90 minute walks every day for the last week, to make up for eating and laziness in the last 8 weeks! A bit of swimming too and must start yoga again too. I've only put on 1kg despite eating all around me, but I'm determined to stay fit this time. I didn't exercise last time because it was so uncomfortable and I was sick on and off, but it didn't make me feel any better really to sit around getting unfit.

Mummyagainmaybe · 08/05/2017 22:00

First scan today. Appears healthy :)

Sadly I'm out ladies. Good luck to all of you with your pregnancies Flowers

I went for second dating scan today after high NT measurement on the first but too early for a referral. Today there was no heartbeat so I've had an mmc in the last day or so.

MsBranwen · 09/05/2017 20:56

Oh @MaryThorne, I'm so so sorry to hear that, such sad news. Hope that you've got good people around you and that you are able do do whatever you need to nurture yourself right now. Sending you all my warmest wishes and hugs xx

HoneyWheeler · 10/05/2017 18:20

Hi everyone, I've been a bit of a lurker here but thought I'd post today. I had my 12 week scan yesterday and everything was perfect and it was utterly delightful to see our baby move! Just wonderful.

Today I've had a phone call saying that the risk of the baby having Edwards/Patau syndrome has shot up, based on low hormone levels in my blood. From 1/1000 to 1/55. They've offered me the harmony test and the CVS test tomorrow (!) I know the harmony test is way more accurate but the CVS is diagnostic and takes less time. Any advice? I'm tempted to go for the CVS even though it carries a risk of miscarriage. Statistically I'm more likely to get run over and that hasn't happened yet.

I don't know what to do! I was on cloud nine, by its back to earth with a thud for me...

PingusMistress · 10/05/2017 20:46

So sorry to hear that @MaryThorne

And sorry to hear that you have had mixed news @HoneyWheeler . Might they let you have both tests? So Harmony test first without the MC risk, then if that is still coming out on the high side then CVS?

Mummyagainmaybe · 10/05/2017 21:05

So sorry Mary, I can't imagine how that feels having a time frame round it as well as the horrible news. Really hope you get some good care and time to recover. Big hugs x

Honey that's really tricky. I don't know what the chances of miscarriage through cvs are exactly but if I knew I'd act based on the results I'd be more likely to take the chance to get through it quicker. I know 1/55 isn't comfortable odds when you've dropped from 1/1000 but there's still a good amount of wiggle there. Really hoping for you that everything is okay and if you go through with the cvs the procedure goes really smoothly. Actually, I looked up the risk of miscarriage and it's between 0.5 and 1%. That isn't really a huge amount different than your risk for a chromosomal condition (okay, it's double or four times less likely but these aren't really huge margins given the figures). If the harmony is accurate enough and you're being offered it I'd be tempted to say to wait. You still have a good chance of having a healthy baby x

Rufus200 · 10/05/2017 21:41

So sorry Mary

Honey I had the SAFE test which is the NHS version of harmony, it took 6days to get the results. Had the test on a Tuesday was called on the Monday. There is a lady that has just had CVS if you want to ask her about it, a few posts up. My test was 99.9% accurate.

Hello, can I join?

A bit late to the party, due 11th November with baby number 2, currently 13+5.

I already have a little one who is 3.5, this pregnancy has been a total roller coaster - a complete surprise with a different partner who unfortunately has taken the news very badly and decided he wants nothing to do with it. So, I'm doing it alone!

I'd love to join the fb group if possible too?

Rufus200 · 11/05/2017 10:35

slipper Hi, just PM me your name and description of your FB pic, make sure your privacy settings are that I can find you and add you as a friend. I can then add you to the group.

Thanks, have done so :)

Mummyagainmaybe · 11/05/2017 22:02

Honey hope I didn't overstep with that. Honestly, would hate to make you worry about a procedure if you had already planned on it as the risk is still pretty low. OH is a betting man and I can tell you how rarely those odds come in.

His Slipper, congratulations and welcome. So rotten that he's gone that way but it may be for the best sooner rather than later as I've had friends have their pregnancies and early motherhood dogged by unsupportive partners only for them to split up and disappear at the end, or worse, custody disputes. Hope you have a good support network x

MrsJB1987 · 11/05/2017 22:35

@lydiangel83 hello Smile we have same due date!!! R u a first timer!? I am impatiently waiting for scan!! Don't even have a date yet!! Only had booking appointment on Monday past! Been the longest 2 months ever!!

lydiangel83 · 11/05/2017 22:56

@MrsJB1987 hello! My due date is 1st Nov following scan, originally midwife estimated at 25th Nov so was a bit of a surprise! This is my first too :) I went for early scan at EPU as was getting abdominal pain that didn't feel good, turns out it was a UTI but thank goodness I had scan because if I had waited until original scan date (17th May) it would have been too late to do screening tests. Congrats to you and good luck with the waiting, I know it can seem forever!

elio · 12/05/2017 20:51

Honey. I'm sorry I've missed this. I just had CVS, uncomfortable but all fine and we got the all clear. I had to have it last time too for my daughter. This hospital 's actual miscarriage rate was 1:1600, I think the 1% quoted is not accurate any more. As it is earlier than amnio more people would miscarry anyway and you wouldn't know if it was the procedure or just something wrong. My results took three days. We were given 1:79 for downs. Personally in your position I would go for CVS as the results are quicker and diagnostic rather than another risk calculation. 1:55 is still a big chance of there being nothing wrong, I have everything crossed for yo. Lots of good advice in the antenatal tests boards and from ARC xx

Mummyagainmaybe · 12/05/2017 21:11

Elio, glad you gave your advice. The NHS website still says 1% -- just goes to show that you have to talk to the professionals themselves. Sorry for my misinformation. Hope I haven’t upset anyone :( x

HoneyWheeler · 13/05/2017 05:23

Hi @Mummyagainmaybe not over stepped at all! Thanks so much for your advice too @elio.

In the end we went with the Harmony. I was more geared towards the CVS but then as has been said, 1/55 is still low odds.

It kind of feels silly to play a numbers game - either the baby has it or it doesn't really! DH is an analyst and went a bit mad with the numbers, but I guess my thought process was to either find out now, or find out a week later (due to my appointment dates and the weekends the Harmony wouldn't take much longer than the CVS). So I've decided, perhaps naively, to pretend the whole thing hasn't happened and go back to enjoying my pregnancy for the next little while.

A tough decision, and I think I was more influenced by DH strong opinions than I thought I'd be! If you knew me in person you'd realize that's ridiculous as basically I'm the most opinionated pain in the rear ever! Trying to stay cheerful until I have reason otherwise.

Thanks for the kind words and wishes, it means a lot!

elio · 13/05/2017 13:03

You have to do what is right for you, as it won't be the same thing that is right for someone else. I partly chose CVS because I felt it was morally wrong for us to be treated differently because we could afford to pay. I think it will be available on the NHS next year so I hope less people will have to go through this. For our first baby our odds were 1:18 based on my blood results and that was such a massive increase in risk from the background I felt we had to do it. We would have terminated if it came back positive (if we'd planned on continuing regardless I wouldn't have chosen CVS) so I just wanted to know asap as I think last time in 2015 the nipt test would have taken two weeks and CVS was 3 days. I went for it again as I knew the score. Actually had the new NHS nipt test as part of a medical trial but we won't ever see the results it's just so they can refine the test.

Your odds are still really good of everything being totally fine and you have done all you can for now, I know that made me feel better too.

Have everything crossed for a good result and hope it's not too long a wait xxx

Mummyagainmaybe · 13/05/2017 14:08

I'm not sure what I would do with a positive result which probably sways my advise. I know so many well functioning people with Downs'. A couple that have been through university. I also know severely disabled people with it. I don't know the other disorders very well though. It's really hard. I completely understand anyone who would choose to terminate.

elio · 13/05/2017 21:37

I know it's a controversial topic, I'm just being honest for the sake of explaining my test choice. My dad had a cousin with it who managed to live independently and was really lovely but sadly had lots of health issues. Personally if there was no test available and my child was just born that way I would love them just as much and try and do the best I could. I feel though as the test is there I have an opportunity to avoid my child having this condition and I feel I have to take it. It would be terrible and break my heart.

This will be totally the wrong choice for other people , there isn't a definitive answer as to what you "should" do in this situation.i hope nipt on the NHS will massively reduce the number of people that have to go through this maze of moral decisions and risk taking, it's going to be unavoidable for some.

Lots of advice on the antenatal test boards and people's stories of going down both paths, which is the reason I joined mumsnet last time because I was terrified and had no idea what to expect. Don't want to put a damper on everyone's scans, I'm excited and hopeful everyone else will sail through with no issues. X

user1489343787 · 14/05/2017 16:08

Hi ladies I'm sorry to say I'm out, had a scan today and no heartbeat was found they kind of jist rushed me out and said that if nothing happenes in the next few days call hospital? Im in shock and still hadent sunk in! hope you all enjoy your pregnancies

Mummyagainmaybe · 14/05/2017 20:24

Oh user1489343787, I'm so sorry. That sounds a terrible way to be treated too. I really hope those around you are being supportive. It's such a difficult thing to go through. Big hugs x

PingusMistress · 14/05/2017 22:33

Very sorry to hear that @user1489343787 . Also I would expect them to have sat you down and talked through your options such as let it happen naturally, surgical or medical management. I'd suggest calling your midwife tomorrow. You shouldn't have been left in limbo like this. Flowers
