Due to recent sad news and at the suggestion of others, I have started this new thread. Let's hear everyone's news.......

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Hopeitwontbebig · 16/03/2007 10:12

Morning all. MrsMar it is a bit confusing about 2nd trimester isn't it. I've always understood that 2nd trimester starts at 12 weeks. But you get the odd website that says it starts at 14. I'd def go with 12.

This pregnancy has been the worst one so far in terms of feeling rubbish. But the past week I'd been feeling human again - apart from past couple of days - am feeling better today so fingers crossed. I remember at this stage with DS2 I decided to tile my bathroom - single handed! Couldn't think of a worse thing to do right now!!! Mind you I was only 23 then!! Wrong side of 30 now

Nikki I hope you get something sorted.

I've not bought anything yet. I've had a look at buggies on the net a couple of times. Think we'll probably go for a 3 wheeler. Be good for walks in the woods with the dog etc. Prams look so much easier to use these days and smaller than they were when I had DS1 (10 yrs ago), then it was a nightmare transferring from car seat to pram, don't wake up, don't wake up!! We've got NOTHING left over, didn't think we'd be having any more so gave everything away!!

I remember with DS1 and DS2 my bump was 'squidgy' for a long time, it took quite a while for it to feel solid.

EdieMcredie · 16/03/2007 10:23

I have a dilemma. The pushchair we want is on special offer at M&P, £125 for pushchair, foot muff, change bag and rain covers. (Car seat is sold sperately). The only problem is that the offer is only on for another two weeks. Im only 14 weeks-is it too early to buy before offer ended? I have my heart set on this one...

EdieMcredie · 16/03/2007 10:53

what do you think?

nh101 · 16/03/2007 10:57

Could you buy it then keep it all packaged up and take it back if the worst was the happen (which it won't anyway) - yes, buy it!

EdieMcredie · 16/03/2007 11:03

Yes I guess I could do that. I just really like it despite many people wanting a pram for their first, im very small, my house is quite small and my car is tiny so I need a small pushchair and dislike prams for their largeness!!

honey2theb · 16/03/2007 11:05

ooh its really nice, i like it.
i agree with nh. buy it! you could always send it back (THAT WONT HAPPEN!!)
but i can understand your apprehension too chick.

nh101 · 16/03/2007 11:10

Edie, I am not sure if it is good for a young baby to be sat upright for long periods. Maybe someone else has some knowledge of this? It is better if the baby can lie flat.

honey2theb · 16/03/2007 11:15

oh i thought you could lie the baby down in it? is that not the case then?

EdieMcredie · 16/03/2007 11:21

Yes it lies down flat, suitable from birth onwards

nh101 · 16/03/2007 11:34

Go for it then! Definitely - it sounds like a bargain.

MMooMar · 16/03/2007 11:39

Edie,Seems to good a bargain to miss. If you are a bit apprehensive about having it at your place,Perhaps someone else could keep it at theirs if you decide to buy?

Hopeitwontbebig · 16/03/2007 11:40

Go for it, I love a good bargain!

Hey, watch this space, I suddenly have the urge (and energy) to look in some recipe books and cook 'something different' I must be feeling better!!!

Hopeitwontbebig · 16/03/2007 11:41

Actually I'm really hungry, better eat something before I open those books !!

Holly29 · 16/03/2007 11:50

Hi Edie

Yeah, I'd go for it! It looks great and you can't think something might go wrong: it won't! I don't think that it's tempting fate any more than buying a toy or anything else.

love Holly

nh101 · 16/03/2007 12:03

Hi Laksa, forgot to say yesterday that I agree with you about Best Friend's Guide To Pregnancy - her attitude of "accept all pain relief cos there are no prizes for a difficult labour" and "why bother exercising - you're pregnant" are a bit narrow-minded. I quite enjoyed it, though stopped reading when I got to the bit about labour. I thought at 6 weeks PG I didn't need to know about all that yet!

MrsMar - I am having pains as well similar to the ones you were talking about before your scan. It is so reasuring to know someone has had them too and that everything was OK. You are about a week ahead of me so I think I am getting them a week behind you. So thanks for the reassurance! Also I rolled over and felt like I had pulled something a week or so ago but there were no lasting effects.

Trinity - 14 months . Only kidding, I think that is nice. You'll cope! My DH and his siblings are 18 months apart (all three - how did his mum manage that?) and they are so close it is lovely. I am 15 months older than my little sis and also it is nice.

Honey - I am deffo getting a very firm bump now!!

What's everyone up to this weekend? I think I might have a sneaky trip to Mothercare tomorrow!

MMooMar · 16/03/2007 12:41

nh101,not up to much the weekend really,DP has dug a veggie plot in the garden (a large one at that!)so will be sorting out the planting with that I suppose.Says he will do it all but I know i will end up looking after it all ,doing the watering, feeding and stuff when it all gets going cos I do the gardening anyway(men with their ideas ,kids with pets etc).So in for another exciting weekend .

Mrsmar ,I have done that so many times in bed when I have turned over ,dont half give you a shock as well, but yeah think its just the muscles .

Welcome sparks

Got to just add that the other day i said that I have an alterior plancenta ,meant to say anterior .Hormones have turned my brains to mush.Had to let you know in case anyone thought " whats that nutter on about".

XXXX

LoopyLouLisa · 16/03/2007 12:54

Edie - please check out the argos website as your buggy is also on offer on there and has a free accessories kit (raincover, footmuff, bag) - there are two designs 376/0316 and 375/5266

Lisa xx

nh101 · 16/03/2007 12:56

I'd love a veggie plot! All mine would die though

Chattyhan · 16/03/2007 13:00

just spent the last 30 mins trying to catch up on the thread since i last logged on!

Don't know where to start so just a few things.

pushchair - i've got a graco travel system that i used for ds until he was 15m - finances won't let me buy a new one but if i was i think i'd go for a silver cross S7 or a quinny speedi SX.

My travel system was great because it came with car seat, base, footmuff, changing bag and raincover all for about £200 but i disliked it's size and weight. It takes up the whole boot in my astra so i went on to buy a maclaren volo stroller.

My plan at the mo is to use travel system for about 6 months then buy a new stroller but a model that reclines.

Friends who had the zapp, micralite have all said they wouldn't recommend because of no recline even our 2 year olds still like a nap!

My pushchair tips would be check they fit in the boot!, reclines from flat to upright (lots don't) and comes with essentials like raincover and footmuff.

Otherwise nearly 14 wks and feeling much better apart from occasional pulling pains like a lot of you!

Nettee · 16/03/2007 14:22

Got my Downs risk result from my scan and blood test through the post today - 1:14150.

I stink of chickens because I have been rescuing chicks that hatched in a most inaccessable place this afternoon - there is still one under a pile of logs and if it doesn't come out it will starve. They just don't know when you are trying to help them do they. Mind you it is sensible really because one that did wander about too openly got eaten by our terrier - awful. 6 are happily with mum in the shed though - hopefully will be 7 by this evening.

Don't know what we are going to do with them all mind you - must get rid of the cockrels....... we are out of control!!!

nh101 · 16/03/2007 15:01

Great news on the downs risk Nettee.

Chattyhan, what do you think of the idea of getting a pram for two so that when I have my second baby I won't need to buy a new one?

MMooMar · 16/03/2007 16:01

Great result Nettee.

Nh101,if you are thinking of having them close together you could go for a phil and teds as you can lie a newborn flat in one of those. When bubba 2 comes along you can buy the additional seat which goes at the front so your first can see out in front and bubba 2 lies at the back again. If you are leaving quite a while between the two though you might want to just go for a single job as they tend to get bashed about through doorways etc.Plus with new stuff coming out you will probably want something totally different next time.

HammerHeadShark · 16/03/2007 16:26

Hi Ladies

Glad to hear all is well for those of you who have had scans.

Nicki, sorry you have had a rough time from your work, just what you need at the moment, huh? Hope you get something sorted re: legal advice etc.

We are quite lucky in that we won't have to buy anything really (unless it is triplets this time!) as we have all the stuff left over from the DTs, but I did love buying all the stuff first time around.

One thing I am really looking forward to getting is a single pushchair this time as we were very limited with choice having to get a double when there are so many trendy lightweight singles around now.

Nh101 I would definitely go for a single as doubles are SO big and cumbersome compared to singles and not worth faffing about with unless you have to. Even light side by sides don't go through some doors and are nightmareish for shopping, and tandems are quite long and heavy - I have tried many types! MMooMar's Phil and Ted suggestion is a good one also if you like that as a single, but there are lighter one's around. Depending on when you have no.2 there are buggy board's, attachable toddler seats and buggypod type devices you can attach to a single.

Can you tell I am very excited a the thought of a single pushchair this time (unless its more twins - will find out at my dating scan on Thursday)!

Think I am on the point of thinking about blooming perhaps - tiredness receding slightly, but I have been fooled before.

Keep well

Holly29 · 16/03/2007 16:49

Nettee - that's a fab result, congrats!

Nicki, I'll speak to my sis about the stage management thing. If she needs one, I will definitely put the two of you in touch. I also have a friend who writes plays and will ask him, you never know.

Have a fab weekend everyone! I have to go to Newcastle all next week which includes my birthday ... and I don't know anyone there. But hey. I won't be alone (have the wee one inside now!)

xx

Nicki10 · 16/03/2007 18:34

Evening all

Congrats Nettee great results and chickens!!!.

I have been getting really strong pulling pains today a bit higher up than before and they come in stabbing bouts. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you think it could be bubba moving out of my pelvis?

DP has told his 97 year old nan today about the baby she is over the moon and doesn't mind what we have! Good job really

Hammerheadshark, twins how adorable at my booking in appointment the midwife asked if there was any history in the family and I said unfortunately not!. After 7 scans we are also certain that it's not twins. I would love twins. Are they Identical?

I am down at my folks now for the weekend and I think we are going maternity shopping tomorrow. Have a great weekend all
