Due to recent sad news and at the suggestion of others, I have started this new thread. Let's hear everyone's news.......

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PurpleLostPrincess · 05/04/2007 10:26

Fiofio, hope your headache is better?

Luxmum, yes I remember everybody being aghast when I was having DS - I ordered Dominoes Pizza and it was gorgeous. The poor delivery bloke was walking around the ward looking for me and everybody was just staring at him. They couldn't believe I had the guts to order in but nobody told me I couldn't lol!

My 20 week scan is on 4th May and we are going to (hopefully) find out the sex of the baby. I would normally prefer to wait until its born but I have a girl and boy from my previous marriage and this is DH's first baby. He is the last in his family with his surname and he is just desperate to find out what its going to be. Being as I've done it before, I really don't mind plus it will save us a bit of dosh if we know whether to buy blue or pink (or purple in our case!). I assumed he really wanted a boy because of the name thing but he secretly wants a girl even though a boy would be nice for the surname to be carried on. Either way, as long as its got 10 fingers and 10 toes and is healthy, we'll be happy!

Have a lovely Easter Weekend everybody!

TeeCee · 05/04/2007 10:31

ohhh Fio - snap with the headache. Mine's gone, for now, but I had it all day Saturday into Sunday evening. We went out Sat night and had people over on Sunday and the whole time my head was killing me, and the bit where my neck meets my hairline at the back was so painful. I took as much Panadol as I dared and used this stuff called 4head that you rub over your forehead and it heats upo , like tiger balm. That really helped.

auschick · 05/04/2007 12:11

Ooohhhhh the headaches! I'd forgotten about those from last time. Speaking of last time - I seem to be getting quite a bit bigger 2nd time around. I really didn't have a bump until around 20 weeks first time around. I think my calorie intake thanks to the ms may have a bit to do with it though
Anyone else bigger 2nd time around?

I think I can feel little kicks every now and then but not sure. Don't think it's wind!

TeeCee · 05/04/2007 12:19

Well this is no 3 and I'm huge this time around. It's cos everythings stretched from the first time and it all just falls back into pregancy shape from the first time around!

Just think we have trapped wind, chronic heartburn, maybe a bit of carpel tunnel, and a really hot summer to get through.

Wohoooooooooooooooo!

auschick · 05/04/2007 12:24

Not to mention a pelvis that feels like it's going to split in half every time you roll over in bed. Can't wait for that again!!

MMooMar · 05/04/2007 12:37

Hi Ladies, what a fantastic day....another dryer free one, national grid will be pleased .

NH101,lovely to hear from you, stay well xxx.

Luxmum, not felt a thing yet, even though its my second.Very tempted to find out the sex,but shall fight it,enjoyed the surprise last time.

Auschick,I am loads bigger this time round than last,Ditto Teecee on things just dropping back into place.I dont expect to be getting in the pre-pregnancy jeans 9 days after birth this time round either.

I am not looking forward to having that feeling when you are lying on your side and it feels like your bump is tearing away from your the other side.Even those body cushions never seemed to help me last time.

LoopyLouLisa · 05/04/2007 12:41

auschick, I am much bigger this time around! I did lose the actual weight quite quickly after ds but still couldn't fit into all of my pre-pg clothes. Now I have to wear maternity clothes and look about ready to drop (I'm 17+3). I think my appetite is bigger this time mainly due to the extreme ms I had last time. Just grateful that I can feel a hard baby bump deep down underneath my flab!

Nh, it was so good to see your message. I am glad you are ok and really admire your positivity.

I am going to try to find out the lo's sex at my scan on 1st may. I did find out with ds and I felt it kinda made him more of a 'person' before he was born. I have had a few funny looks when I admit this and the fact that I am having a planned cs cos people seem to think this pg is a bit too clinical.

Hope you have all got some of this lovely sunshine that we have down here (SW). Sat outside with ds earlier while he toddled around and took a really funny photo as he pinched an empty beer can from the recycling box and pretended to drink it. pmsl.

happy easter all xx

TeeCee · 05/04/2007 12:44

LOL! Despite it all though I absolutely love being pregnant. This is the last time now so I'm going to try and enjoy it as much as I can. Joined up for my active birth classes today. If you haven't signed up for any antenatal yopga I can high reccomment it. Not only is it helpful etc it's such a lovley time to spend on your own with your bump. I loved it with no1 but cherished that time even more when pregnant with no 2.

And I have some good news, for me anyway, sorry! The head of midwifery at my local hospital today said she could guarantee me a home birth!
I quickly put that phone conversation into writing and wrote to her and copies in The Midwives Manager, the Chief Executive at the hospital, The Midwifery Officer at teh Dept of Health and the Chairman of the Midwiffery Committee on the Midwiferey Councuil!

Nettee · 05/04/2007 16:23

Definatly bigger earlier this time too. I am not finding out the sex at my scan on 23rd April but will have to resist the temptation to change my mind on the day. - I know what you mean about making the baby more of a person though - I did find it strange not knowing towards the end of my first pregnancy. Like the idea of a suprise at the end of labour though.

TeeCee - glad to hear the head of midwifery is being supportive to your home birth

good to hear from you NH, glad you are recovering well, enjoy your wine and cheese and good luck for June.

I think 16 week is a standard midwife visit now as the booking has come forward so there would be a huge gap if you waited till 22 weeks

I have just had mine and it was lovely to hear the heart beat - Got to make a decision about antenatal anti-D as I am rhesus negative. Didn't have it last time but don't know if that was the right decision or not......

FlossALump · 05/04/2007 17:44

Just got back from drs and had my screening bloods. Spina bifeda normal apparently, and downs odds of 1 in 1200. Think that is better odds than with DS when I was only 23.

Still driving myself beserk over picking a buggy. Thinking about a M + P pramette now, about the 50th turn around in thinking since I starting thinking about prams... Obsessive? Me? never.

Good news TC about the midwifes. I'm not actually booked in for one as yet - as needed to find out about antibody status. As the midwifes seemed supportive am hoping it will be ok to sort out at my next appointment - long time away though - middle of June!

EdieMcredie · 05/04/2007 18:01

We don't want to know sex but as others have said this is going to be hard to resist!

Im just dreading the scan anyway. I seem to have got it into my head that something will be wrong This morning I was crying about it

Has anyone got their linea nigra? Suppose it's a bit early...

Hopeitwontbebig · 05/04/2007 19:34

nh101 - how lovely to hear from you, have been thinking of you. I'm so glad to hear you are feeling positive. Make sure you enjoy all that wine etc.... good luck for June. Please keep in touch if you can. x x

Welcome Rin23!!

Aw Eddie, big ((((((((hugs)))))))). We've decided, I think not to find out the sex, but like others have said, the temptation maybe too hard to resist when having that scan! I found out with DS2, didn't with DS1 but was convinced he was going to be a boy. I have absolutely no idea at all with this one, so it really will be a surprise.

Yes I'm starting to get my Linea Nigra, what is it with that line, why do we need it, what it's for, whose idea was it anyway?? Hate it, it takes ages and ages to go after giving birth

Floss - congrats on blood results. I know exactly what you mean about buggies. There is SO much choice these days. I've been trying to find good comparison websites without much luck. Maybe we should set up a buggy review thread? I know there was one started a while back about 3 or 4 wheels. Think we're going to go for a 3 wheeler.

Floss and Nettee, so you're rhesus neg too, lots of us! My midwife didn't mention anything to me at '16' week check, I forgot to ask. When do they test for antibodies?

TeeCee - congrats on the home birth! I like your style, writing to everyone to confirm

Fio and TeeCee - snap with the headaches ... again . I use that ForHead stuff too and find it works quite well, I've also found that if I drink lots of water it helps. Seriously getting bored with all the headaches now though.

Purple - PMSL at you ordering Pizza, how brilliant of you, will keep that in mind if I have to stay in! re palpatations, I seem to get these from time to time, glad I'm not the only one.

Luxmum - sorry to hear your DS was ill in hospital, that must have been pretty serious for him to have been in hospital, how awful for you, glad he's home.

MrsMar, I know what you mean about the December thread, I kept looking to see when one would start, it does make you feel quite 'advanced'! Can't wait for the January thread to start, he he.

Hopeitwontbebig · 05/04/2007 19:34

Blimey, that was a long one

Bless you HIWBB - you are very thorough! Reading your post has made me realise all the things I have missed recently on the thread.

I had bloods taken at my booking appt, and the results (well I checked them at work [sneaky emoticon]) were gone through with me at my 16 wk appt. Do you have your maternity notes? Mine are in the results bit. The one which tells you your blood group should have an antibody screen on also.

We will try to find out the sex. Am quite quite convinced I have a DS2. DP wants to know, we found out last time because he wanted to. We only have two bedrooms so a boy would be better!

FlossALump · 05/04/2007 19:44

Oh Fio nice! Any chance of getting more kip this long weekend? When I had my awful headache an afternoon nap and a long sleep that night sorted me out.

toadstool · 05/04/2007 20:04

Hello all, have rushed through the posts. I'm rhesus negative too, and as it's 2nd time round, I'm having the anti-D jab and screening at 28 weeks. It seems worth it, as it's such a simple way to be on the safe side (the MWs all go on about the jab stinging, and it isn't fun, but it's completely bearable). I remember resenting the hysterical attitude of a ward MW when DD was born who turned up practically shouting, "She's positive, she HAS TO HAVE the jab!!!" Silly, silly woman. Funnier note re. these antibodies from the olden days - when my mum (rhes -) had my younger brother (i.e. her 2nd) the obs. clutched her hand through delivery, asking, "Now, you're sure your husband's the father, aren't you?" Just to make sure

emalushka · 05/04/2007 21:33

Hello all,

I'm confused. What is a linea nigra?

Hopeitwontbebig · 05/04/2007 21:42

Hi emalushka, it's a pigment line that runs from pubic area up to belly button. x

chicca · 06/04/2007 08:57

Hi all,

17 weeks on Monday and I've just had my first blood test results back. The horrible doctor (no bedside manner here in Spain) told me I have Anaemia (low iron). Also I seem to have only put on 3-4 kg. In his friendly style he asked what was wrong with me - don't I eat?!
As I happens I am naturally narrow (i.e thin) but have been eating loads. I have a bump but obviously not much weight gain. Scan showed a baby alive and kicking but am now concerned about my lack of weight gain. Mind you, I remember thinking the same thing with DS1 about this stage...

Anyone else with similar probs?

PurpleLostPrincess · 06/04/2007 09:12

I'm rhesus negative too and I got a card through in the post that I have to carry around with me in case I have an accident - did anybody else get this? I'm waiting for an appt at 28 and 32 (I think) weeks for the injections...

lou031205 · 06/04/2007 09:50

Chicca, I was 8st 3lbs (5"8' tall), but dropped to 7st 7lbs two weeks before discovering pregnancy, due to a bad bout of tonsillitis.

I find it hard to gain weight, but gradually gained towards my pre-pregnancy weight. In the last fortnight, I have had two D&V bugs, which have dropped my weight back to 7St 7lbs!

To reassure you, I saw an obstetric consultant on another matter, and he said that research shows that the risks of low-weight mothers in pregnancy towards pregnancy (i.e. prem or IUGR baby) is pretty much resolved as long as you gain 10% of your pre-pregnancy weight by the end of pregnancy.

So I figure that as long as I reach 9st by the end of pregnancy, I don't need to worry too much.

Nettee · 06/04/2007 10:45

RE Anti D. I still don't know. I have found some statistics here and the risk of being sensitised drops from 1.5% to 0.2% if you have the antenatal ante d (assuming the baby is Rh + for which I have a 50% chance). So from pretty low to extremely low which is good but it is still a blood product and I can't help thinking about all the haemophiliacs who contracted HIV before they knew about it from blood transfusions. And I am not planning to have any more children though I know anything could happen and I might change my mind. It would be awful to have a baby die of haemolytic disease of the newborn when it could have been prevented. So many decisions...... Would definately have the anti D if I had a bleed or a trauma and after the birth if the baby was Rh +.

auschick · 06/04/2007 11:37

Don't worry Chicca, the average weight gain (according to my obstetrician) is around 4kgs at 20 weeks.

I'm also Rh neg. Had anti-D with DS at 28 weeks and after he was born. Have had antibodies checked this time (while on holidays back in Oz....still waiting for my first antenatal appt here - my referral keeps getting "lost" apparently). I'll have anti-D again. Am slightly concerned re the blood product risk but - for me - the benefits outweigh the risks.

auschick · 06/04/2007 11:39

....although - I'm with you Nettee. I'd like one more after this child (child that is!) and not sure what I'd do about anti-D next time.
