Kinki,

I had a section last time (emergency) and have opted for another this time around. They want to book me in for 39 wks which woudl make it 3rd sept but I'm trying to persuade them to do it the week before (mainly because of start of academic year and I'd like to go back to work when dc's are at school full time, but also my dad goes abroad on 1st sept).

Everyone keeps telling me that a planned cs is much better, and I don't think I could bear to go through labour again for it to end the same way.

have you had one before?

xx

Hi great news laska I am so pleased for you. It must be a great weight of your mind.

For those of you with dopplers, do you have heart rate readers? Mines arrived today and I can hear the heart rate but it's at about 106/108 and goes up to around 140 but mainly on 106. Are they not that accurate? just this is 50bpm below my babys normal rate?

kinki · 29/03/2007 20:49

First one was an emergency section. I had had some complications in labour and the decision was made to rush me to theatre. Horrible at the time, but the happy outcome far far far far far far (etc) outweighs all the anxiety and fear at the time (thought I was going to lose him). I had pre-eclampsia with that pregnancy. Second time no pre-eclampsia, but I had gestational diabetes instead (like to keep it varied). They thought it safest to book me in for a planned one that time. And like Fio, it was a wonderful experience, so stress-free and relaxed. Truely the best moment of my life. The docs want me to have a 3rd section cos of the past histories and some respiratory problems I have now. So they've put me in the diary already. Gee, I sound such an old moaner, sorry. Usually I'm fit and healthy, I just get a bit ill when I'm pregnant, that's all. Can't wait until September.

Luxmum · 30/03/2007 08:25

Hello,
Hope you're all doing well today, and have something fun lined up for the weekend. I had an elective CS with my DS, and it (th eoperation) was fab, really quick, didn't feel a thing, I think it was over in about 20 minutes. That said, the recovery was (or so I thought) awful and very painful, and I had a tiny scar which healed very well and I had no complications, I just found it very hard to move much for the first 2 weeks. I was in hospital for 10 days, and was very glad of every day. However I have just read the CS thread in the Childbirth topic thingy, and can't believe there are women giong home after 2 days - I literally was blacking out 5 days later at walking the length of the hospital corridor, so I don't know what they put in UK water, but any woman who leaves after 3-4 days is clearly amazingly brave/fit/desperate-to-leave-hospital.. BUT the operation was great. Sorry, this was meant to be a reassuring message, but it went a bit skewiff.

FlossALump · 30/03/2007 08:27

Hello everyone. Had my 16 week app yesterday, all went well. Heard babies heartbeat loud and clear. Midwife was slightly shocked at how big my womb was more like 18wks instead of 16 - so guess all those cakes haven't been all that detrimental and it is a baby bump!

I'm feeling quite good atm, shopping yesterday and found a dress for two weddings I have this year with the help of my mum! I got a cardi to go with my dress for £5 - buy one get one free in blooming marvellous! Spent a bit more on the dress though, but figured that £30 a wedding wasn't a huge spend? I kind of fell in love with the dress here . There was absolutely bog all to buy elsewhere!

Laska, I'm glad your scan went well. Now try to chill!

My Dp has also said that he would do a 3am trip before. however, he is lying. He thinks he would but really he'd roll over and go back to sleep!

Good news about DH and the scan HIWBB! I'd be gutted if DP couldn't come too.

Pennypops · 30/03/2007 09:24

Ok, has anyones morning sickness come back with a vengeance? I woke up this morning and spent the first 5 mins with my head over the sink, Haven't felt this rough in ages

I really thought my sickness was on its way out. It was vile in first trimester but had eased up in the last couple of weeks. Uuurrrrggghhhhh. Yuck.

PurpleLostPrincess · 30/03/2007 10:47

Yes Pennypops, I really feel for you. I have had/have got HG and it went away for about a week or two but I'm still having really bad days. Its worse when I've not been able to sleep so try to get some rest. I'm nearly 15 weeks now so I'm hoping I'll enter the 'blooming' stage but at the moment I just feel blooming awful!

Hello everybody else! Glad all is well with you FloosALump.

We were watching some funny videos on youtube this morning and I was laughing my head off - baby seems to like me laughing as I definitely felt lots of movement!

PurpleLostPrincess · 30/03/2007 10:47

*FlossALump (sorry!)

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 30/03/2007 11:38

oh yes, was sick at the bus stop wed morning. classy!

Hopeitwontbebig · 30/03/2007 11:39

Morning all!

FlossALump, glad your check up went well yesterday. That dress looks BEAUTIFUL! I've got a big posh 'do' to go to in early May, think I may have to start shopping soon, might even buy that dress!!

It's rubbish for you ladies still having sickness. I occasionally get the odd bout, more than anything the past couple of days I've had 'crazy hunger syndrome', it just creeps up and bites me then I AM SERIOUSLY HUNGRY!!!

I had my 16 week check this morning, albeit a week early, couldn't do next Fri because it's Good Friday. Everything ok, heard heartbeat etc. Midwife was a bit stressed because earlier the receptionist had sent the wrong patient through (a foreign lady who didn;t speak much English) and she was therefore looking at the wrong notes on the screen, she addressed this lady by the wrong name 4 times, and the patient didn't notice. The worst thing was, the notes on the screen were for a lady with lots of complications!! How scary is that, she could have been given an injection or anything. Fortunately, when the patient came through next, the midwife realised the mix up!

Hopeitwontbebig · 30/03/2007 11:51

I've posted on main page, but do you guys know if it's safe to have a pedicure???

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 30/03/2007 12:08

i did last time round - why wouldn't it be safe? i went to a reg chiropodist and he said good idea to have them in pregnancy - keep an eye on swelling etc.

Pennypops · 30/03/2007 14:01

Flossalump - HG must have been a living hell. I wasn't as bad but I remember how miserable I felt. I'm glad its on the up for you even if you are still having the odd off day. I think the fact that I am incredibly tired ((I'm in sales and today is last day of quarter so its been a hell of a week) and the sickness are related. Fingers crossed it will ease over the weekend.

By the way, ECATLM - your post made me laugh. I threw up right in the middle of Paddington station concourse a few weeks ago. We are clearly both classy ladies!!

FlossALump · 31/03/2007 08:43

pennypops - I think you mean purplelostprincess to that first comment? Confused!

HIWBB - thank you! There really does seem to be bugger all else out there. I was really lucky I was unsure whether they would have the dress in stock - I saw one at the back and couldn't believe my luck when it was my size!

Sorry for all those of you who are still feeling sick. The only time I feel sick now is when I brush my tongue, which, TBF has always made me gag. I really hope you feel better soon.

EdieMcredie · 31/03/2007 08:46

I had my 16 weeks check which was OK apart from that fact that when she took bloods for TST my vein opened up again and I could feel bloody trickling down my arm under my sleeve

She says there is some sugar in my urine which may be normal but I have to have a blood glucose test at 26 weeks.

Listened to HB again. Nicki, I think she said it was beating at about 135 bpm.

Baby now moving loads and despite what some people had said about it being too early when I started feeling it at 14 weeks, she said this was the baby I could feel.

Im still sick sometimes now. I feel sorry for anyone else that still has it too!!

PurpleLostPrincess · 31/03/2007 12:09

Glad it all went well Edie, hopefully the sugar in your wee doesn't mean anything...

I'm still being sick too but my GP said I could take my anti-sickness tablets on really bad days so I'm turning to them when I really can't cope. I'm either really sicky or really hungry - anybody else get that? I find I feel more sick if I haven't eaten but then I feel sick after if I've eaten too much...? (I'm Irish, blonde and pg now so it could just be me!lol)

Have a good weekend everybody

laksa · 31/03/2007 17:12

Hi guys,

welcome cathbell!

Holly, I'll be waiting with you and we can whinge together. The others can at least give us tips on what to expect.

kinki, I did think about tasting the ketchup, but only for a min.

Nicki, not sure about the doppler, perhaps you can ask the midwife if heartrates for babies vary at all? I'm sure its fine.

Floss, thats a coincidence, I had saved that dress in my favourites to possibly buy at some point..hopefully we don't go to the same wedding

Hope the sugar in your urine is nothing, edie. I am 14 weeks and can feel nothing that remotely resembles bubbles, flutters or babies yet, I can't wait to feel the baby.

Sorry for all the ladies that are still being/feeling sick.

I am in a very positive mood today as just went to my hypnobirthing class and now feel like I can take on anything

xx

Hopeitwontbebig · 31/03/2007 18:46

Laksa, what do you do during hypnobirthing classes? I've never heard of it before.

Nicki10 · 01/04/2007 11:12

Hi Ladies

Sorry I've been off for a few days I'm at the in-laws. I had another go on Thursday and found the babys heartbeat and it was at 158 which is normal for me so all's good with me.

I know what you mean about the sickness. I am now sick everyday without fail and yesterday it happened in the middle of John Lewis with the in-laws. All very embarassing!.

Hope everyone is well

xxz

laksa · 01/04/2007 13:58

HWBB, I'm not a hippy or anything . Just have heard good things about it and anything is worth a try.It is hypnosis to try and get you in a positive state of mind for the birth. Also incorporates a bit of breathing.

They walk you through a kind of visualisation and teach you how to put yourself in a form of hypnosis so that you remain in some semblence of control when you are in pain. I'll let you know if it works after september . You need to practise it though so that you get used to putting yourself in that state regularly otherwise you won't find it easy on the day.

xx

Hopeitwontbebig · 01/04/2007 19:36

Sounds like a very good idea Laksa. Def worth a try. They always tell you to relax when you're in labour and the pain's getting bad. I always found it incredibly hard and thought the midwives were mad for suggesting it!! If you have the mechanism to do it, then I expect it is a lot easier.

How is everyone? We've had a lovely weekend. Went for a walk by the canal today, weather was great. Also, nesting starting early I assume, but I've been sorting out long overdue storage for cds, now they're all in one place in a big cabinet we bought yesterday . Going to endeavour to sort the rest of the house by the time babe 3 makes an appearance . Feeling very productive, hope it lasts!!

Holly29 · 02/04/2007 09:08

hello everyone! Hope you all had a weekend. I'm embarassed to say that the pg hormones have now kicked in bigtime (not that they had not before). This was my weekend:

  • Saturday am: very happy, telling DH how much I love him etc
  • Saturday pm: grumpy, tired, miserable
  • Sunday am (after bad night's sleep): crying, telling DH how hard this all is, how I probably have hurt the baby after accidentally eating chocolate mousse which had raw eggs in it
  • Sunday pm: sore tummy, generally feeling sorry for myself. Totally washed out.

WTF? I used to be a nice normal persons with no mood swings! Told DH he deserved a prize for being best most understanding DH in the world and he said it was quite all right!
