1004rise I don't think it could be quicker, but the consultant said that if it is as quick then I am at increased risk of bleeding. I need to research.

mightymouse hugs! I feel somewhat the same. But all our babies need is love, food and warmth. All of which can be given with what you have.
I didn't wash bean & turnips clothes before they wore them, and can't imagine me having time to wash spuds. No harm was done so don't worry about it. 🙂

raspberry thank you! I know I am a good mum, I just realised last night that mentally I am not where I was with bean & turnip at this stage. I think because spud doesn't have a space in this house that I can envisage him in. Anyway, after my wobble last night I feel much better now.
How has your cleaning gone today?

newbie I watch OBEM but dislike it. I hate how they air birth ... they make it out to be horrendous and yet I honestly have never had that experience. I feel like superwoman after delivering.

esmes so my 3 minutes is just the pushing stage (second stage) ... 1st stage is active labour, which is when your contractions are regular etc, then when you get to 10cm dilated you can begin to push. Which is the second stage. The third stage is the placenta or afterbirth delivery.

So with bean, my first stage lasted 6hours, 2nd stage 13mins. With turnip my first stage lasted 2.5hours, 2nd stage 3 minutes. My body pushes on its own, I don't have to do anything. It's a bizarre feeling, somewhat like vomiting but downwards. That's the only way I can explain it. Babies heads are born then a second contraction births the body. But with turnip there was only a slight delay between the first & second contraction hence the 3mins.

yellowismyfavourite I never did child proof my house as such. I preferred to teach rather than remove risk. By this I mean no baby gates I taught them how to get up and down the stairs safely .. this was more due to the fact that we visit family often and they don't have the same risk reduces so easier to let baby explore and know the risks. That being said we moved our Medicine cupboard to one high up and out a child lock on the cleaning cupboard. They start moving at around 6months rolling first.

BelleEsme welcome 👋🏼

autumn glad you got sorted 👍🏼

EsmesBees · 05/04/2017 20:35

Wow. Those are quick.labours bean. This may be a silly question but how do.you know how long your labours were? I know mine was quick, and was over four hours after getting to the hospital, but not the details.

Yellow don't worry about toddler proofing yet. It happens very iteratively and you'll know when something needs moving/changing. Plus some toddlers are better at following rules and more cautious than others. One of dd's little friends appears to have some sort of death wish and is always climbing up to the highest available surface.

Had a bit of a minor panic about going into labour at work today. I really don't think I'd have time to get home so think it would be straight to the hospital by work and I've no idea if they'd let me in to the midwife led bit or where anything is. But my rational side has taken over now and I reckon I'd figure it out. Plus, would be pretty cool to give birth right by big Ben.

beanturnipandspud · 05/04/2017 20:40

esmes because I am nosey. They give you a discharge note from the hospital to give to your community midwives. Well mine 'got lost' on the way home, into the memory boxes. Which never caused an issue community midwife just had to request a copy from hospital. But it details the full labour and timings.
However, of you aren't as nosey as me and haven't held on to your notes. You can request a debrief on your
Prior labour and they will go through the hospital notes. They're your notes so you are entitled to see them and be briefed on them 😊

Teaspoon74 · 05/04/2017 20:51

Hi all - back from my 34wk scan and she's turned!!

All looking on target for induction at 38wks. And if it goes to plan, a 6.5-7lb-er. Though she does appear to have a big head (not worryingly so, but OH sees this as a family trait ;).

WishIWasSleeping · 05/04/2017 20:53

Lullaby- I don't fix in my reusable ones. They stay pretty much where you put them from the weight of your boobs in a proper fitted bra. I advise to double check them a few mins after you've put them in for the first couple of times, as they can shift a little. But after a couple of goes you'll know if they tend to move a inch up or down and can adjust putting them in to match. I find them much easier at night as some of the sticky ones make a noise with the backing and my ninja-sensitive ears get annoyed! Grin

Autumn - That's fab news. A real weight off. You must feel much better? I'm glad the midwife you spoke to was actually listening and willing to help. If you have time do complain to everyone. It may benefit you next time!! Shock

Thanks Rise I've been mega busy at work today and haven't had a chance to check in with you lot all day! - Claire - My DD currently (still) has chicken pox, (its like the longest case of chicken pox in the world!Grin and she's even developed a new spot today! - I hope nursery don't refuse her at the door tomorrow!) if you've already had it you should be fine, especially with our late stages of pregnancy, according to my midwife. If you go into labour within a couple of days of coming into contact with it you should make them aware at delivery so they can give baby an extra check. I would recommend not touching any weeping sores if possible, just to be on the safe side, but I def wouldn't change my plans!

Teainbed - totally agree with your reasoning on OBEM... I was in numerous positions during labour, and had just had and air, but I would never have let a camera in there!

I got a warning they were going to take my notes so I got the details page photocopied! I keep it in the back of DD's little red book! I was only going through it on Sunday to see how fast it was, as apparently high BP mothers deliver quite quickly and then quicker again on subsequent births.

Oh - and - I have a question for all you wth DC - do they check baby blood type on delivery? I was looking for DDs the other day but theres nothing in her notes. I was just curious what she was! Might have to ask my MW on Monday.

I'm not convinced we'll have a baby on this thread - we're all too chatty and it's getting close so they'll be lots of questions I think! - unless the twin pregnancy posters come back and update us. I think there were at least 2 of them?

Brew and Cake all around to settle into a new thread. Smile

Brightsmoke · 05/04/2017 20:57

Place marking, thanks for the new thread. Bed time for me so will catch up in the morning

beanturnipandspud · 05/04/2017 21:03

wish my babies' cord blood was tested but only because I am o neg so have to be tested for anti d. As it turns out they're both o neg too. I don't think they test every baby though, I think only babies with rhesus negative mums.

EsmesBees · 05/04/2017 21:12

teaspoon that's great! Wow, four weeks to go.

Bean I see! I had no idea the hospital were going to keep my notes so it didn't occur to me to look at them first.

Wish same as bean, DD had a blood test at birth as I'm O negative. Had to wait around for ages to get the results.

Teaspoon74 · 05/04/2017 21:16

Catching up on another busy day of chatter!

Bean - you need to figure out how you achieved those times and give classes!!!

Peach - my scan was today at 34wks. I do have a consultant appt at 36 wks to go through birthplan, but scanner told me they'd only scan at that later stage if they needed to.

Enjoy the mat leave R&R Barnes, am v jealous!!

Welcome BelleEsme!

Nurse sending you hugs for the comments you're summering from DM!! & Sipper is right - you'll be a great mum! Not least because you are clearly sensitive to others feelings, self aware, and able to be patient on the face of insufferable thoughtlessness. All of which I'm guessing are pretty essential mummy qualities!!

Jenny great news on the improved growth scan - must be a big relief!!
*
100Rise* I'm interviewing all day tomorrow to backfill my TPd press manager who'll act up in my absence. Second time around as we did 't get a match first time so really hope we find someone and that they don't have a big notice period as I do want to be part of their induction - which gives us 3 weeks from interview day to appoint, do paperwork, and them to start!

BouncingBlueberry feel your pain re the furball... have you checked they aren't still poorly? I know the cleaning is horrid, but I'm such a sucker for my fur babies I'd be fussing them to make sure they were ok!

Tea impressive amount done by the sounds of it! Though it sounds like you need to sort the cleaner out smarting. Honestly - life is too short!

NortherneXile - also avoiding the bag packing but think that is a job for Easter weekend. Maybe Smile

& thanks for good thoughts re flipping, Yellow, MrsJW, Peach & Esmes.... I think it might've been the waves and crossed fingers that did it Grin

coxsorangepippin · 05/04/2017 21:31

Hello all - now so many of you are on mat leave I bet this thread will be used up in just days!

I'm feeling rather sorry for myself at the thought of 6-8 weeks more of being pregnant... Pelvic pain/SPD getting worse despite physio, and a ginormous bump weighing down my 5ft1 skeleton! Sad the physio says short women tend to have a worse diastasis (mine is already quite noticeable) which adds strain.

On the plus side the gorgeous spring weather is making me really look forward to a summer at home with baby!

Still hoping to work to 38 weeks if I can, with all four-day weeks after this one and quite a few days working from home... let's see how it goes! My replacement has been appointed now and I really want to stay long enough for a proper handover Smile

BouncingBlueberry · 05/04/2017 21:56

@Teaspoon74 he's fine, he just ate his biscuits too quickly. He's had his tea and kept it down. He's currently curled up on his bed purring away to himself. From time to time he does this as he's too greedy for his own good.

newbieho · 05/04/2017 22:07

@Teaspoon74 great news on baby moving!

Hello @BelleEsme 👋

@Barnes79 What a beauty 🐕

1004Rise · 05/04/2017 22:17

@BouncingBlueberry we used to have one that did that, except he'd go round to other people's houses and gobble the food they gave him then come home to be sick and complain that no one ever fed him Hmm Then you'd get the butter wouldn't melt face Grin

@Teaspoon74 Yeay on the turning!! GrinGrin

@coxsorangepippin I'm with you, 6/8 weeks seems so long and yet so short at the same time. I'm still wearing my very attractive giant tubigrip which (surprisingly) has helped with my back/abs pain, more than the bump support band I bought did. I didn't know that about being shorter making it worse.Confused

I did get new heartburn medicine from the GP yesterday which meant I haven't had to have any Gaviscon today... still feel like I'm eating for Scotland though!

@beanturnipandspud Since we're in a nosey mood, why would a quick second stage mean more at risk from bleeding? I would have thought that there would be less risk....Confused(Still blown away by the 3 minute second stage)

Oh and we have another viewing tomorrow, less frantic tidying up this time!! Grin

Teaspoon74 · 05/04/2017 22:28

BouncingBlueberry in which case absolutely spot on - sent sympathy!!! Gorgeous fella though. Looks like a combination of my two - colour of one and pattern of another.

Thanks Newbie & 100Rise. Am delighted Grin

Just back from NCT - such a lovely group we have. We had a good discussion about different delivery types and CS recovery etc. Got split into male and female groups to look at what was important with an 8 week old baby. Couldn't believe how high up the list the guys put sex, to put into contrast they said it was as important as walking the dog!

@nursebickypegs sometimes a good cry is what's needed. I hope you're feeling a bit better this evening? 💐

@1004Rise I ended up having a whole cupcake in the end 🙈 was trying to restrain myself!

@Tickyboovicki hope you didn't spend too much. I'm holding out a few days so I have time to return things if I don't end up wearing something to the wedding / it doesn't fit by the time of the wedding...

@EsmesBees yup! I don't think I've seen this many threads for other groups. We're just too chatty! 😋

@BouncingBlueberry but look at that face!!! 🐱

@Sipperskipper @beanturnipandspud I guess I assumed the toilet would be the easiest as its the smallest room... dreading the next time it needs doing! Dreading doing the rest of the house!

@Barnes79 yay! Welcome to the Mat Leave club!

@Teaspoon74 there appears to be a fox just chilling out in your garden... 😲🦊

Rustler74 · 05/04/2017 22:36

Yay @Teaspoon74 fabulous that she has turned.
@BouncingBlueberry feeling sorry for the fur baby really! Cats will mostly have my sympathy Grin

Now a TMI alert:
Has any of you had trouble with going to the loo? I'm normally a 3-4 times a DAY person but feeling massively obstructed at the moment, and that has been going on since week 26-27! I do go but it's always very small amounts.
I'm not sure what more I can do than just drink more water (I can't take medicine for everything!)
Pushing can't be good either so maybe I'm not giving it enough time?

Growth scan in the morning for me, and OH has been allowed to come along even if this is already the 5th scan. His work has been very lenient.

Landlord check up a week tomorrow (before renewing contract) and we are planning to take all the obvious baby stuff away as we are worried they'll turn on us... I'm not keen to move house at this stage or with a tiny baby, so I'm quietly hoping that they can't turn us out... is that a bit of an irrational thing to be worried about?

1004Rise · 05/04/2017 22:37

@RasperryInAMelon well done, you deserved it after the cleaning Wink

coxsorangepippin · 05/04/2017 22:41

rise misery loves company... it's nice at least that I'm not alone, though of course I would prefer you felt better! Physio gave me tubigrip too which felt amaaaazing for 20 minutes then really painful after 2hrs - too much squishing! Think it will be good after birth though.

teaspoon you have a pet fox??

nursebickypegs · 05/04/2017 22:52

@Rustler74 are you on any iron tablets? You could up your fibre intake or ask your MW lactose laxative. I have to have steel oat porridge everyday, plus a swig of lactose and I kinda go without straining. If you don't want to take medicine, drink plenty, fruit and veg and all bran! I have a friend who swears by the Ella's kitchen Prunes pouch in porridge. I'm one of the bowel care link nurses at work and I think it's all down to diet in my opinion!

Does it say in your contract about having babies in the house? Sounds weird but in one of our rented properties the landlord wanted to know if we were going to have a baby. What business is it of theirs! Bugger off.

@Teaspoon74 A FOX?!? I would actually shit myself. We keep having boy cats in our garden and it winds me up! When we first moved in however we didn't have a fence and next doors dog and toddler would just run through garden!

@RasperryInAMelon SEX?! Good lord! DH & I had a very frank discussion about this the other day, purely as I feel very unattractive and I can't imagine that I'll feel instantly sexy with a huge scar on my tummy either. He was really understanding but obviously we will see! I have urges too, which is what got us in this mess Grin

I have cried on and off all day, and how I have a big headache like I always do after a sad day!

Teaspoon74 · 05/04/2017 22:53

Oh yeah - Foxy. Not a pet, but comes to visit most days. Gets on with the cats and they often just chill in the garden together. If I have leftovers I will put them outside but that is maybe 2-3 times a week. Rest of the time I think he just likes the company ;)

I love him - MIL hates him. I keep telling OH it's good for my oxytocin levels (and therefore for the bump) to have foxy and the squirrels come and visit. Getting away with it at the moment ;)

Squirrel pic attached ;). Foxy likes the squirrels too!

Rasperry glad that NCT went well. I really like my bunch too!

Rustler thanks! It is a relief! And yes - me too. Had put it down to squished insides from baby growth and also not really keeping stuff down.

Cox more of a pal than a pet. Wild but chooses to come and hang out!

WishIWasSleeping · 05/04/2017 22:59

@Rustler74 - I'm the same this time around. With DD I had bran flakes every morning and possibly a better diet than I do now! I was daily regular and felt better about going into labour knowing I was running smoothly if you know what I mean!
Now it takes days and I get about 3 mins notice from my body about needing to go. It's very inconvenient. I still eat bran flakes every day but it just isn't cutting it! Confused
I have a slightly irrational thought that's it's all going to empty during labour and I'm not sure I could deal with that!

coxsorangepippin · 05/04/2017 22:59

teaspoon the best kind! Like in The Little Prince

Teaspoon74 · 05/04/2017 23:05

Nurse I think the fact we have 2 boy cats and a friendly fix keeps most other things out of our garden, though we do have a visiting black tomcat that has managed to sneak through the microchip cat flap (!) a couple of times to spray the living room .... which is lovely, obvs!

Honestly though, I think foxes ( particularly urban ones) get an unnecessarily bad rep on the. Asia of folk lore etc. There's a very good book all about the history of foxes in Britain and beyond - https://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qsproductttbp?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100&productId=665675&cmmmc=Google%20AdwordssPLALAFoxes+Unearthed--FOXS&gclid=CKmO1ISpjtMCFQrjGwodg7ALg.

Maybe a ML read if anyone's interested? In fact - we've done DVDs and audiobooks, and book recommendations?

WishIWasSleeping · 05/04/2017 23:59

Thanks Bean & Esme.
I donate so know what I am, hubby is a wimp so has no idea what he is so I was curious! I didn't think they checked, but didn't want to miss it if it was there somewhere! xx

lullaby23 · 06/04/2017 03:14

Thanks for the new thread! Not convinced we will get a birth though as it moves so quickly, I'm going to say #13 lucky for some?

wish thanks for the pad info, I have a few packets of disposables left over to use up but may get some washable ones after that.

teaspoon great news on baby flipping!

rustler I second lactulose it's not too hardcore, I used it after birth last time. I am loving the Ella's prune pouch idea though! Did anyone see the mint flavour April Fool's joke? Had me going for a minute.

I managed to see a physio at the weekend about my back and as suspected it looks like PGP. I have a scoliosis so am wonky to begin with so pregnancy hormones send it even more haywire! She strapped me up with tape so I felt like an elite athlete rather than an egg on legs Smile Soaked it off in the bath last night but now I have sticky plaster bits left Sad
