@PeachIcedT I have got midwife appointment today as well and she not mention anything about feeding either. It wasn't my usual midwife though, just her annual leave cover.

nursebickypegs · 05/04/2017 15:58

@Teaspoon74 I'm in Nottingham. Weirdly when I got home (still crying!) a friend rang me from Uni and I feel a bit better knowing someone other than poor DH is there!

@PeachIcedT I got given some BF leaflets at my checking in appointment and that was that, nothing mentioned since! I've done some reading and I've got an ante-natal class booked in the next week.

PeachIcedT · 05/04/2017 16:04

Thanks all, sounds like not much I can't read for myself then! I'm not overly impressed with my midwife so hardly surprised she isn't following the suggested schedule but I guess I'm only seeing her a couple more times now.

Fingers crossed for a flip @Teaspoon74 and great to hear about an appointment finally @Autumnsweater

savagehk · 05/04/2017 16:12

Don't think I've had a feeding chat, but then again sometimes the things they list are just mentioned exceptionally briefly in passing so I might have missed it (esp as I had no issues bf last time) - I may have just said 'hoping to bf like last time' and forgot about it! Here we get a booklet in our folder right from the start about bf.
Here too the hospital is quite big on bf so you'll be seen by a midwife before you are discharged, indeed I was still in recovery when the first one asked me how I wanted to feed and then latched him on!

Thanks for the new thread savage. I swear the May thread moves faster than the other antenatal ones.

Good luck teaspoon. Hope she's flipped round. I work just by Still Thomas's so waving from my office window.

Interviews all day tomorrow for my maternity cover. 5 in one day. I'm going to be even more exhausted than normal.

BouncingBlueberry · 05/04/2017 16:23

Would someone like to adopt my varment of a cat? Freshly washed bedding on our bed. I go upstairs and he's been sick all over it, bedding is now in washer and the cat is banished to outside with his cat flap locked.

Whoop whoop we have the second half of my maternity cover and she is starting transition now! I'll be able to hand everything off in plenty of time before I go on maternity leave GrinGrin

Posting again on new thread - very interesting !

MrsJW15 · 05/04/2017 16:45

Lots to catch up on and I've only been away a few hours! Lying still for my MRI wasn't the most comfortable - I was on my back with my head propped and my legs at an angle, but we got there in the end. Baby definitely objected to some of the loud noises! But they got lots of amazing images of the brain and some other parts. Waiting for those to be emailed through. Absolutely fascinating. Baby was head down which is also good. Off to see MW tomorrow.

Rise I always drop food on my bump! My maternity work clothes get so messy! And good news on the mat cover.

So pleased you have a scan Autumn.

Jealous of those relaxing in the sun. Teaspoon hope that baby has flipped!

Afternoon ladies

Had my consultant's appointment this morning which went well. Baby's growth has picked up again, after starting to slow down a bit, so I don't need to see her for another 3 weeks. She Al couldn't see any problem with me having a water birth if baby's growth continues but would prefer if I had baby in delivery suite as opposed to midwifery led unit.

Nursebickypegs - if you still have your audible credits then giovanna fletcher's book is worth a read. I might be biased but I would definitely recommend getting 'the unmummsy mum's guide' on audible. Throughly enjoyed it and must have listened to it at least 4 times already.

yellowismyfavourite · 05/04/2017 17:08

peach I haven't discussed it with mw but HV mentioned it on Monday. She said to not get discharged til I was happy, and then if I felt like I needed more support there is a MLU about 20 miles from here which you can be referred to and just go for the day or stay overnight if you want.
Thanks savage I won't worry yet. teaspoon hope baby has flipped. nurse sorry you are having such a rough time. It's amazing sometimes how friends just know when to call!
I am so excited today... They have just started working on building a new IKEA less than a 5 minute walk from our house! Opens sometime next year... can't wait!

@BouncingBlueberry poor kitty 🙀

Thanks for the new thread!

Sipperskipper · 05/04/2017 17:21

nurse sorry to hear you are having such a rubbish time of it. I've certainly felt similar anxieties, and then accompanying guilt for feeling like it. Must be extra tough with your DM making such odd, hurtful comments. From your posts, you sound like you are going to be an awesome mum, and that little baby is going to be a very lucky boy.

raspberry cleaning the toilet is exhausting, all that bending and stretching! I've been putting that off!

nursebickypegs · 05/04/2017 17:55

@jennymac31 I have a spare one so I'll pick that up now! Hurrah for Gin had me crying with laughter, so I definitely need something to pick me up! I have so many books on audible it's ridiculous.

@yellowismyfavourite I know! I do the same with her, we are very in tune with each other!

@Sipperskipper oh you will make me cry again! I'm not sure why she is saying stuff like this, as it really really hurts. She texted me the other day saying that she felt lonely and that I don't pay her enough attention, and I just felt like screaming! If one positive comes from this, I don't ever want to send any of my children messages like this.

BelleEsme · 05/04/2017 18:53

Hi ladies 😁 Sorry I'm really late to the party but have been lurking from time to time! I'm due 2nd May with my 2nd DC. I have a nearly 6yo DD and expecting a DS this time, although won't fully believe it until I see it 😉 Will have a good read and catch up on the goings on this evening x

Barnes79 · 05/04/2017 19:01

I finished work today! I can't believe it could be 10w until my LO arrives (I'm 32w+2) so have a lot of time to fill. I'm just looking forwards to some lie-ins and relaxing with my fur baby

Back from work, looking after 15 week old puppy, 4 and 7 year old this week. 2 wees and 1 poo on the floor from puppy, makes a change from babies doing it though!! A lot to catch up on!

autumn Thank goodness for that!!! How stressful and on top of a busy work week too.

I've only watched 2 OBEM and am confused as to why everyone seems to be on a bed on their back? Is it really still like that a lot? Do they not have a midwife led birthing unit type place at these hospitals? Or just not used very much? So far in 2 episodes I've seen 3 CS and 2 V births. Yes, very medical savage..... maybe I'm a dodgy hippy but really thought people moved around alot more now, breathing, music etc... Aha, I see I'm not alone!

lullaby I've been given reusables, guess I just pop them in bra?

Yes rocky!!! It's like being part of a special club Smile

I had no idea who she was (g Fletcher) but started listening to her book on audible a couple of weeks ago nurseb. Jenny I think I'll get the unmumsy guide then too :)

bouncing oh that face!! Too cute. Couldn't possibly have done that!! Wink

Welcome and congratulations belle!!

@Badgerbird she's married to the guy from McFly, I only know this from my McFly obsessed friend! I've seen a few people moan about her view on controlled crying but hey, everyone has an opinion on something!

EsmesBees · 05/04/2017 19:19

badger I can only think that the more active the birth the less good telly it makes. Or the less likely the parents are to want to have the birth shown on telly (as more of you is on show). Saying that, I had to give birth on my back on the bed as the midwife wanted to monitor the heartbeat (which I blame for my ongoing upper back problems). I had been active through most of it though.

BelleEsme welcome! Good user name Wink

PeachIcedT · 05/04/2017 19:39

I'm back from my scan - they were confused why I was there at 34 weeks when it's meant to be done at 36, but that's the date they gave me. I was following their instructions! Luckily despite this they were very professional, growth looks on track - weight is 5lb8 currently.

Really got an understanding for all of you commuting today, as I don't take busy trains/buses to work. Got on a packed train and soon a priority seat came free and a woman instantly grabbed it but luckily a man was more aware and offered his. The bus was better. Seriously it's a stressful business and made me feel a bit awkward!

Welcome to the thread @BelleEsme!

Yes OBEM is very much on the back deliveries. They seem to be all CS or inductions and I agree that if they're too active the cameras probably can't get to where they need to be!

teainbed · 05/04/2017 19:39

OBEM is a self selecting group of women who have mostly chosen to give birth in a hospital, so it's going to include women have C-sections and instrumental births.

I'm very suspicious of the editing and also the fact that I bet some people get cold feet about it at the last minute. So I don't think it's that representative of what's really going on out there!

That said when you look at the stats for hospital units, the one I'm going to for instance, only a quarter of women have a vaginal delivery that doesn't involve epidurals or instrumentation.

But I'd also respect someone's right to give birth on their back in bed if they want to, I did with my first and it absolutely felt like the right thing at the time.
