After hearing a couple of people complain about the lack of it, and then experiencing it myself, I thought I'd follow nomoremagnolia's suggestion and create an ante-natal thread just for us poor scared naive first-timers

Of course I'm not saying we shouldn't also be on the normal ante-natal club threads so we can learn from people with a bit more experience, but a little newbie club might be friendly and reassuring too?

So if this is your first baby and you're due Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec 07, please join me!

Please?!

Hi Geek

So glad you have done this as I was thinking of doing the same myself. Would be lovely to share with some other newbies.

I'm due in October really nervous and until I have my first scan I just don't want to let myself get to excited.

How are things going with you?

geekInPigtails · 08/03/2007 14:00

Hurray! Hello Kittiwake! Thanks for not leaving me on my own

I'm not too bad I guess. Physically fine, which I suppose I should be grateful for. Psychologically though, I really don't know how I'm going to cope with the next few weeks! I only got my BFP a week ago, due early November. I've spoken to my GP surgery, and they say I won't be seen for my first ante-natal appointment until about 12 weeks, which just after Easter... DH and I have agreed not to tell people straight away, but we're visiting both sets of parents over Easter so we're going to make the annoucement then (about 10-11 weeks)... Between now and then, there's just nothing - nothing I can do (apart from eat properly), can't talk to anyone about it except DH, it's like a weird limbo!

Sorry, bit of a rant there Do you know when you're having your scan? Do you know when you'll start telling people?

Hi guys,

what a good idea! I am another nervous newbie Am due Sept 26th and had my booking appointment with midwives today, they were lovely and friendly and have agreed to my request for a homebirth (my doctor was very anti, so I was a little nervous) so I'm in the process of checking out birthing pools on the internet.

Just a quick question, do you find yourself thinking the worst? My MS has largely disappeared and I never had the sore boobs thing everyone talks about...I keep imagining I've had a missed mc and just don't know yet. The only symptom I have of pregnancy at the moment is round ligament pain. I am going crazy waiting for the scan and its not till the 19th March

Nice to 'meet' some other first timers...Our sept thread is very crowded so it can be a little difficult, I think people really did get down to it at christmas

geekInPigtails · 08/03/2007 18:25

hi laksa! know exactly what you mean about thinking the worst - i do it every so often, but so far I've been able to quickly remind myself how quick and bold my BFP was, and that was only a week ago... As I said though, really not sure how I'm going to cope with those thoughts a month from now! eek!

OP posts:
Kittiwake · 08/03/2007 19:49

Hi Laksa and Geek

I have been exactly the same thinking the worst, some days I am totally convinced I have a missed MC too despite the fact I am tired, spotty, greasy hair, hormonal, queasy my scan is booked for the 28th march and Booking in for the 19th March and due date 15th October.

Totally agree about the wierd limbo we haven't told anyone else yet but I am planning on talking to my boss on Monday as she wants me to take on some pieces of work that are quite long term and I just feel I can't spring this on her later. Other than that I think we will keep it to ourselves until the scan.

Great news on the possible Homebirth I am too nervous for that really as I live in a really rural location and the hospital is quite a long drive away! It's good that the midwives were so positive though.

mandler · 08/03/2007 19:55

Hi there. Nice to join a new chat, the other threads are quite packed! I am 8+1, scan due on April 3. Really struggling with work this week - anyone else hit a wall at 3pm?!

PolarMummy · 08/03/2007 20:45

Hi Folks and thanks for starting this Thread. I know exactly what you mean about thinking the worst. My poor DH is rather confused at the moment, I am happy when I am feeling nauseous and down when I am feeling better

We haven't told anyone either and it is quite isolating, can't wait to tell people, my EDD is 4th Oct.

Kittiwake · 08/03/2007 20:53

Polar that's it exactly, I've been really wishing I would actually throw up! I think my DH is pretty confused too but bless him he has been looking after me.

Mandler - I'm fine during the day thank goodness but when it gets to about 6.30 I just totally run out of energy like someone has flicked a switch and I just have to slump on the sofa like some kind of beached whale

PolarMummy · 08/03/2007 21:12

We have decided to go private for this pregnancy as I am really, really squemish and we thought this might help (like if I go to visit someone else in hospital I could faint!) but I am now really confused about what will happen at my appointments, I have been to see my doctor at 8 weeks and I have an appointment on 21st March (12 weeks) but not sure what this appointment is for! The receptionist at the GP surgery who gave me this appointment wasn't very friendly and I didn't like to question her. I am hoping it is for a scan but it could be just an initial appointment! I am useless with this sort of thing. Anyone any experience of this?

FCH · 09/03/2007 08:30

Hi,

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one finding it a bit difficult to believe I am actually pregnant (despite BFP 2 weeks ago). I don't feel sick yet, and other than being a bit tired and having slightly sore boobs I feel completely normal. I realise I should be grateful for this but it is a little disconcerting!

On another note; I have been offered an early vaginal scan (fixed up by a MW friend) has anyone had one of these, and what are they like. I think my DH might find this a bit wierd...

PolarMummy · 09/03/2007 12:20

FCH, I know exactly what you mean, I keep telling myself that I should be grateful I am basically feeling OK. If I could just carry a portable scan unit around with me for comfort I would be fine.

I have had a vaginal scan, not during Pregnancy but for "womens troubles" and it was fine, mind you my husband wasn't there. How would you feel about your husband being there?

geekInPigtails · 12/03/2007 15:58

Hey everyone, how were your weekends?

I had a bit of a 'moment' on Sat - was out at a church do in the evening and started having a horrendous allergic reaction to all the flowers, just couldn't stop sneezing and my head was pounding. So I asked a friend if she had any painkillers, and popped a couple, which helped. Except, I then suddenly realised they were Ibuprofen, and you're not supposed to take Ibuprofen during pregnancy are you?! Oh, such a horrible horrible sinking what-have-I-just-done feeling! I'm pretty sure I was being silly, surely there's no way two little pills could have a significant effect?!

Hi all!

Lovely idea for a little club. I am due Sept 25 and can totally sympathise with all of you re. not believing you are PG! I found out at 5 weeks and was convinced that a PG I found out about so early couldn't possibly come to anything! I am 12 weeks tomorrow and starting to feel more relaxed about it all now.

I am sleeping badly though - waking at 6.30am when normally I go through to 8am no problem! I think it cos I am anxious. I keep waking up with a jolt thinking: Am I still pregnanct??? Duh.

Shall we do a list?

nh101 · 12/03/2007 16:22

PS. we told mostly of our family and close friends straight away but I get the feeling people aren't so excited unless you are 12 weeks gone. It has been nice to tell people in "stages".

Geek - the time goes SO slowly and you just worry constantly. The only advice I have is try not to!

geekInPigtails · 12/03/2007 16:59

LOL thanks nh101 - useless advice (coz I'm doing that already) but I appreciate it anyway!

My scan is tomorrow and I am convinced they are going to tell me that I have just imagined the whole thing... or that I've had a missed miscarriage, even though I'm eating for England! here's the amended list.
