mrspage don't panic! It will be warm in May. How many blankets you need will be down to what you intend to have the baby sleep under. If you are using grobags then you wont need any blankets. If you have a pram you'll want a lightweight one in there, but if it's warm then a muslin will be fine.

They have to wear a hat when first born, and then only when you take them out in the cold. So probably just get one 0-3 cotton one.

Brightsmoke · 27/03/2017 09:01

Rasperry, you have a gorgeous room! I'd move the bedside table to put the Moses basket next to the bed (or were you getting a next to bed cot? If you shuffled the chest of drawers down it should fit? Put bedside table next to the other one temporarily?)

Just sorted out all the baby clothes I washed yesterday into size order, I wish I hadn't now because they now all need ironing 😩

Today is my last week day off before maternity leave, 6 working days left, woo!

savagehk · 27/03/2017 09:07

bright they do not need ironing, don't give yourself extra stress! If they're knitted fabric they will look fine as soon as they're on. And if they're not, stop buying clothes that need ironing! Life is too short....

mrspage1985 · 27/03/2017 09:10

Thanks for advice all, will steer on the cooler side then - both hubby and myself are always warm and always have windows open / less layeres than most people so potentially baby will be the same - will soon see!! Xx

ClaireSunflower · 27/03/2017 09:39

Sat in the waiting room at the health visitor clinic and just been told the health visitor has gone to the wrong clinic... think I'll be waiting a while. At first they tried to tell me I'd gone to the wrong clinic and I was like...erm no I am 100% sure this was the address on the letter and turns out I was right. All this for an appointment I don't really want anyway! Hmm

MrsJW15 · 27/03/2017 10:08

Possibly a stupid question but are cellular blankets a particular type of blanket?

Blankets are one of those things that mum keeps telling me not to buy because people will buy them for us. Also I think my grandma is knitting one, and possibly someone else as well.

That spa day looks amazing! It's my birthday in a few weeks. The in laws had suggested some kind of post-baby spa treatments but might see if I can do something pre-baby!

1004Rise · 27/03/2017 10:16

Oh s^*+ didn't even think about washing new baby clothes, Blush we only have new stuff so I thought I had one less job to do. Should probably try to do that this week while the weather is still good!

@mrspage1985 HV told us categorically no hats in the house, only outside. She also said babies use their arms and heads as temperature regulators which is why I guess the sleeping bags are so good.

We bought a gro egg, the one gadget we've allowed ourselves so far because it was really easy for us to work out what the baby should be wearing according to the temperature... it amazed me how little they seem to need!

I can't believe it's Monday again Sad I think I need a 5 day weekend and a 2 day week! Feel knackered this morning for no particular reason... already planning an even earlier bed!

savagehk · 27/03/2017 10:19

mrsjw blankets need to be breathable (mainly) - a knitted one should be fine. Cellular is 'looser knit' to avoid overheating and/or suffocation.

1004 remember not to wash too much in advance, in case your baby is a different size to the clothes you've bought :)

Rockyroad17 · 27/03/2017 10:19

@mrsjw15 they are the holey ones! They are generally 100% cotton so less likely to irritate skin than, say, acrylic / polyester (and more breathable). I think they are also a little lighter. The midwife recommended having one in the hospital bag.

Teaspoon74 · 27/03/2017 10:24

Love the idea of a spa-day but was warned off jacuzzis and hot baths by MW early doors - she said "imagine a boil in the bag ready meal ; you're the bag" which was nice of her!

Claire - grrr! Hope you have music/ a book!!

Savage - I'm with you. Don't iron my own stuff let alone anyone else's Wink. And stuff that gets a low / cool tumble or a blow on the line should be pretty crease free anyway.

Bright & Rasperry - v envious of your impending mat leave. Another 4.5 weeks of work to go here.

Lullaby - funnily enough, I was chatting to a friend about mum and baby cinema on Sat. Is it fun? Think they do it in Greenwich and might be quite a nice way of getting out of the house post bubs.

Rasperry- could you temporarily shift the dressing table to the nursery or elsewhere? Looks like it'd leave a good bedside spot for the basket.

RasperryInAMelon · 27/03/2017 10:37

@Brightsmoke I considered moving the bedside table, but my lamp is on it and there's nowhere to put it otherwise so I wouldn't be able to see in the night as our curtains are blackouts.

The chest of drawers won't move down either as the radiator is on the other side.

The Moses basket will fit but it's just going to be crazy snug and if I want to get up on my own for the loo I'll have to crawl to the bottom of the bed to get past the basket so that may be the only solution.

I've ordered 6 under bed storage boxes so I can sort baby clothes into sizes and get stuff put away. I've done all the washing (except brand new stuff) and intend to iron like a mad woman once I start Leave next week!

I quite enjoy ironing little people things though so it's not stressful. DH works from home so I can set the iron up in the nursery and watch the iPad in there ☺

@Teaspoon74 there's literally no room in the nursery for other furniture and as we plan on trying to do all changes and feeds in there it needs to be a vacant room until she moves in there which will also be fairly quick if it goes to plan

MrsJW15 · 27/03/2017 10:40

Thanks Savage and Rocky. Hopefully the knitted one will materialise soon, but I may do some quick googling/adding to my wish list!

peasandquiet · 27/03/2017 10:43

Rasberry, I'd just rehome your bedside table somewhere even if it's in the way somwhere else and then I think you'll manage. Window sill really handy for storing stuff on so should be ok.

savagehk · 27/03/2017 10:51

rasperry we moved the bedside table and put up narrow shelves, which had my phone/light etc for nighttime access, and shoved the cosleeper up against the shelves. Could that work?

teaspoon mum and baby screenings are fine, but here they seem to only show stupid movies at them. Given babies are under 1 and have no idea what they're seeing, can't understand why they can't show movies the mums want to see. Last time I saw the most dismal Disney film ever (not an animated one, one of the 'real life' ones). Definitely ranks up there with worst movie ever watched (there are about three contenders on my list for that)

1004Rise · 27/03/2017 11:23

Can someone please give me a kick up the arse today I really can't be bothered SadHmm

Good point @savagehk although I've only bought a handful of 0-1 an the rest is in 0-3 so should be ok.

RasperryInAMelon · 27/03/2017 11:28

Good suggestions @peasandquiet and @savagehk - I think I'll just leave the bedside table and make do.

DH would kick my arse if I have to buy new furniture for the sake of what hopefully will be a maximum of 12 weeks until she's in her own room. Sadly there is nothing to our windowsills. I have small a bottle of bio oil precariously balanced on there at the moment!

MrsJW15 · 27/03/2017 11:49

Rise I really can't be bothered either! Sitting at work trying to get motivated, I'm leaving early today for physio as well and I have loads to do!

So we saw the inlaws yesterday, who casually mentioned that they are going to be away for a bit - somewhere in between 1 and 2 weeks but I couldn't quite get my head around it - when I'm about 37-39 weeks pregnant! They seemed surprised that we were surprised... I'm actually kind of furious on behalf of DH. Angry Sad

EsmesBees · 27/03/2017 11:52

Raspberry if you are worried about needing the light for the night feeds, then you probably won't want it on anyway (as it will wake the baby up more). If you need to see for the latch then you'll want to get some sort of dim night light. I moved my bedside table, lamp etc to make room for the crib last time. It's only for 6 months so not a real hardship.

Had to smile at all this talk of ironing baby clothes! Mine have been in the dryer all night and then 'sorted' this morning into boxes by my 2 year old!

Had my last (hopefully) consultant appt this morning. Took ages as she identifed a blood test I should have had last time because of my rhumatoid arthritis. So I had the consultant on the phone to my GP going Through my records taking, and DD getting more and more bored. Good that it was picked up though.

nursebickypegs · 27/03/2017 12:05

Morning ladies! Midwife has ordered me on bedrest for 24hrs; I sneakily snuck out to get some eggs for breakfast and boom! Braxton Hicks. We went to the hospital last night to be monitored and everything is fine, he's just wanting out.

I'll catch up on the thread once I've caught up on my Zzzzz's.

EsmesBees · 27/03/2017 12:08

Take it easy nurse. And listen to your midwife!!!

savagehk · 27/03/2017 12:32

Or how about a light like this (make sure it's sufficiently dim though, or you can angle it so it's not too bright) that you can clamp to the bed? www.litecraft.co.uk/pack-of-2-philips-1-light-led-bendy-task-lamp-white-1?gclid=CjwKEAjw8OLGBRCklJalqKHzjQ0SJACP4BHr_bHgPF8YQsS1-1dwEdFK9aXhB2zvl4PHud5vTSEZUhoCxNPw_wcB

I now have one like that (but attached to the wall); although my Lumie is better as it's properly dimmable.

Rustler74 · 27/03/2017 12:38

@EsmesBees I might do the same re bedside table so I can move the basket towards my head, and I agree with the light. I'll have a little night light plugged in at floor height. I didn't realise you had RA. How has it been behaving since pregnant?

@nursebickypegs I hope you're having a good snooze right now! Good on the midwife for being strict with you. Nurses and other medical people are generally not the best patients so I admire her for being firm and you fir following up!

Barnes79 · 27/03/2017 12:48

Raspberry I'm getting one of these instead of a night-light. I just thought it may mean you didn't need a lamp and that would free up the bedside table so could be moved...

May 2017 #11 Not long to go until the first baby shows!
EsmesBees · 27/03/2017 12:49

It's been good thanks Rustler. Much better than last time. I had a whole collection of autoimmune conditions, all of which have been better in pregnancy.

I had a owl shaped portable night light last time that was on a 30 minute timer. Which was great as I could move it around the bed, but it would always go off just at the wrong time as she needed to swap sides.

teainbed · 27/03/2017 12:52

Also on my last week at work. Smile I cannot wait!

Rise beautiful part of the country. We were a little bit further south of you yesterday but still utterly glorious.

Sympathies to my fellow pelvis pain sufferers. I think it's a bit better today but I've learnt my lesson. Now is not the time to be doing long walks.

nurse stop! Put your feet up.

Did Line Of Duty please everyone last night? Shock
