@nursebickypegs I have only leaked once and that was after getting checked for reduced movements at the MLU... guess it was all the nearby babies!!! Otherwise nothing. At NCT classes they said leaking or not doesn't affect the supply once it's born

@RaspberryInAMelon what a horrible experience... sorry you got so upset. I think they can turn at least up to 36 weeks though so even if it is breech it could turn again. Could you ask for next week's appointment to be with your regular mw?

Had my antenatal HV visit this morning... It was mainly data collection and getting the red book... A bit like the mw booking appointment. She was really nice though and I was able to talk a little about my anxiety issues which I have had since a teenager. I have always self managed and most people would never know about it... I haven't discussed it with mw but DH is really worried about PND so I think he will be happy that I am starting to talk about it more.

McBaby · 03/04/2017 13:46

@Raspberry there is still time for the baby to move and they don't get concerned with position until 36 but that doesn't mean they can't move after then.

Dd2 was head down and engaged till 38 weeks till she turned transverse. So I had an ecv and induction the day she was found to be transverse.

35 weeks today with one that flips around every day and is currently sitting transverse!

PeachIcedT · 03/04/2017 13:49

Back to work for me after my week+ off 😩I need strength.

@RasperryInAMelon sorry to hear about the crap appointment- they always seem so rushed, even when I've got nothing to raise. I guess they're trying to cram in as many people as possible in a short time but it's no good if they can't communicate with you effectively. Hopefully next week's appointment will go more smoothly.

@nursebickypegs I'm so impressed your DH made a custom mobile! That's honestly inspired me to at least think about trying to make one - good on him.

I have next NCT class this evening, lady week's one the course facilitator got herself on a bit of a tangent and then we didn't cover big parts of what we were meant to... but hopefully this will be better.

On the subject of food/feeding is anyone planning to bring up baby on a meat free or reduced diet? Me and DH only eat fish but no other meat and I can't really imagine feeding it to my child.

raspberry that's so crappy! You poor thing. I had a mw that stood holding door open as I was trying tell tell her about my worries (in my notes it says about the MMC's and subsequent anxiety etc). She just said "well wait till your 20 week scan..." and almost shoved me out the door. I always ring and check its not her when I have mw appointment! She better not show up at the birth Confused Can you ask to see a different one next time?

peach we are planning on bringing up veggie, no dairy and only eggs from local small farm or allotments.

RedBlu · 03/04/2017 14:08

I cried at one of my recent MW appointments because she told me she was retiring and I would be seeing a different midwife from then on..... I met the new one the other week but I she was with a student midwife and let her take the lead so didn't have much interaction with her. She seems nice enough but I would have preferred to have had the same midwife all the way though!

The last couple of days I have been getting sort of dull cramping when getting up from sitting or going from sitting to standing, not all the time and and they don't last long - are these those BH? I have no idea as this is first baby!!

Spoke to the HV today and she is going to visit us in early May so I will be off so don't have to worry about time off.

Hoping to go back to work in the next couple of days if doctor agrees it's ok. Then I will only have to work until end of April which will be mostly three or four days weeks due to the bank holidays and some extras days I have booked

MrsJW15 · 03/04/2017 14:39

Red that sounds like PGP to me, but might be worth checking.

Nurse I haven't had any leaking, but I have had some crusty/itchy bits (I'm 34 weeks). And if I give a bit of a squeeze I get some flow - a bit of either clear or yellowy liquid comes out. Really no idea if I'm meant to do this, but it does stop the itching!

nursebickypegs · 03/04/2017 15:03

Despite having iron tablets 3 times a day, I still have a stinging/metallic taste in my mouth which I hate. Everything tastes weird.

Just had a sweet experience, nipped into ASDA as it's like our corner shop and one of the store assistants was asking about the baby. I nip in most days... I guess I nip in too much!

@savagehk thank you for that link; DH finds out today if he can take his paternity leave in his new promotion or delay promotion so this is helpful. Also I think you're an oracle as you're always helping me!

@yellowismyfavourite I might go and sit at baby clinic and see what happens!

@McBaby I swear Bub was transverse last week, it was so painful and uncomfortable. He seems to be behaving currently.

@PeachIcedT I nearly bought one from Mamas and Papas which we could play the iPod through but the price was £££, so I think that sparked the idea. We are a pair of geeks, so I think this is introducing Bub early to years of Star Wars!!!

@Badgerbird @RasperryInAMelon I've seen 4 different MWs now!!! I have one "regular" one, but she leaves this week. I'm actually gutted as she really helped me with work troubles, and she came up to me in town for a chat one day to see how I was doing. Also she was lovely to DH and would let us record Bubs heartbeat on our phones, while the other MW didn't have time. The worst MW I met was after we got told about Bubs heart condition; she told me not to worry, took my BP and wondered why it was high. Erm, no shit it's high love!!!

Also Badger I love your plans for diet for Bub. DH is an exceptionally fussy eater and I have to blend vegetables into sauces for him to get some nutrients as he would happily live off bananas, strawberry yogurts, potatoes, chickens and sausages. I desperately want my own chickens, it would be my dream.

@MrsJW15 I've squeezed and no joy! It will be my luck that now that I have come around to the idea of BF, I won't be able to do it!

RasperryInAMelon · 03/04/2017 15:05

@mrspage1985 she did find the heartbeat in the end but was surprised how fast it was despite the fact that she'd been prodding at baby for ages!

Sounds like you could do with some rest after your busy days too!

@nursebickypegs that's be great, I'd love to see!

@yellowismyfavourite @McBaby I know there's still time for her to flip, I guess it's the first time there seems to have been a 'problem' so we've never talked about CS at all.

@PeachIcedT I hope your first day back hasn't been too stressful!

It's awful isn't it @Badgerbird - I know that they have limited time to get through everyone but I almost feel like - then don't ask the question if you don't have the time to listen.

The afternoon hasn't so far turned out as I'd hoped... horrendous lower back aching which resulted in more tears and being bent over the gym ball on the floor for an hour or so... just how I wanted to spend my first day of Mat Leave!

lullaby23 · 03/04/2017 15:13

Sorry to everyone having difficult appointments / difficulty getting appointments. It's scary to realise the NHS is stretched like that. On the flip side I had to get my clinic to send a cost estimation of hospital/doctors fees for my insurance company - $17k or £8.5k ShockShockShock

nurseb geez what a nice present for MIL to bring all the way back for you!

Hopefully 5 days is at the higher end of time to wait for milk to come in, mine took 3.5 days after c-section. Newborn's tummies are tiny so they only need a few ml of colostrum at a time to keep them going to begin with. Hope it comes in quicker this time, boob muscle memory or something!

EsmesBees · 03/04/2017 15:15

Well done for speaking to the HV yellow. It's good to.talk about these things.

Don't worry at all about your boobs nurse. I fed without a problem last time. Just has a squeeze now and nothing.

Get sitting on that gym ball raspberry. Still lots of time for baby to move, plus nothing wrong with a c-section. There is a lot to be said for knowing the date you are having your baby.

Had such a lovely time this morning playing with DD in the sunshine in the garden. I'm still feeling guilty about the impact the new arrival is going to have on her. I really want her to have a sibling close in age, but she's going to miss all the one-on-one time she gets now.

nursebickypegs · 03/04/2017 15:24

@lullaby23 I know!! I've given her instructions of her bringing back anything American baby products that I can't get over here. According to FIL she has really taken this challenge seriously and raided most Walgreens and CVS!!!

@EsmesBees @RasperryInAMelon knowing the date of when Bub is born has been really comforting to me. Well it was in the beginning and now it might change as he's so big!

Okay this sounds ridiculous but I'm watching Moana and Bub is going bonkers every time there is singing. I saw it a few times at the cinema and have the soundtrack so clearly he's a fan... am I right?

1004Rise · 03/04/2017 15:32

Woke up this morning and felt like a normal person, had a really productive morning at work and now I get to 3pm and need an afternoon nap Confused

MrsJW15 · 03/04/2017 15:57

Rise I hate that feeling. My office is really hot which is not helping! And baby seems to have shifted so that a bit of it is pressing into my ribs and it's hurting my back Sad.

newbieho · 03/04/2017 15:59

@PeachIcedT I am losing my patience at work too.

One and a half week until annual /mat leave starts and I am feeling all the stress. I have never sworn so much in my life like I did today (obviously under my nose). Give me patience and strength 😫😤

My work colleague due mid April went into labour this morning and it freaked me out. I don't have my hospital bag packed, all baby clothes are in bags and baby stuff stored in boxes in the loft. If you top it up with irregular dull aches in my bump you will get the full picture of me in panic mode 😲

yellowismyfavourite · 03/04/2017 17:05

@RaspberryInAMelon sorry the first day of maternity leave has been so rubbish. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. The money I spent on the birthing ball has to be some of the best money I have spent recently... although I have to fight DH to use it cos he loves it too!!

WishIWasSleeping · 03/04/2017 17:46

Yellow- I love that your hubby sits on your ball. My DH avoided mine until yesterday when one of my friends was over, as he 'was only sitting down for 2 mins because of dinner' ... then proceeded to lose his balance and fell off in the most spectacular slow motion fashion... (he's 6ft4) Legs and arms everywhere... I was in stitches. I nearly peed my pants. And obviously didn't do anything to help. Grin #BestWifeEver

ClaireSunflower · 03/04/2017 18:06

Sorry to hear about the rubbish appointment raspberry. I've always found my midwife rushes through my appointments like she can't wait to get me out of the door. It's frustrating when you have questions and concerns and you're just fobbed off. Last time I was asking about my hip pain and she just cut me off with 'it's perfectly normal'. I wasn't asking if it was normal I was asking if there's anything I could do about it!!

Peach I am a pescatarian too. DH eats meat but we mostly eat veggie or fish at home so the baby will be mostly pescatarian too I think.

Rustler74 · 03/04/2017 18:20

Took me 45 minutes to catch up! That means scrolling up and down when I didn't get the reference and trying to concentrate! I met up with two ladies from pregnancy club and we had a nice waffle. Literally and figuratively.
Now I have acidic reflux the whole time, including when I went food shopping. At least that kept me focussed to hurry up. When home, a swig of gaviscon was highly recommended.

@RasperryInAMelon what a horrible appointment !
@yellowismyfavourite well done for speaking up to HV.
@Badgerbird I hope you won't get that midwife when you go into labour. I bet you'd scream when she would tell you to give birth faster Confused or hold the door open!

I haven't seen the same Midwife twice but I can't fault any of them, apart from the first one I've seen when I changed hospital care. She knew well that I'm hard of hearing (it's on the front of my green notes!) and kept mumbling and turning her head away Angry...
My care by GP practice and community midwives has been amazing, though and they've supported me well when I had the problems at one of my jobs.

jennymac31 · 03/04/2017 18:22

Evening ladies

After the antics of the weekend I managed to have a lovely relaxing day off with hubby. Had a full body pregnancy massage (was only supposed to be back, shoulders and neck but the young lady got a bit carried - not that I was complaining) followed by a pedicure. Then we went for lunch and chillaxed for a bit before picking up dd.

Back to work tomorrow but manager has agreed that I can work from home this week so it hopefully won't be too strenuous.

Hearing everyone's midwives experiences has been slightly reassuring, as I'll be seeing my third midwife next week so really not sure how it's gonna be. When I was pregnant with dd I saw the same midwife during the whole pregnancy and afterwards so this pregnancy has been quite different.

nursebickypegs · 03/04/2017 18:45

@newbieho a friend of mine had her baby at 34 weeks, and I'm 32. I keep thinking that and getting scared!

In panic of the day, one of the FurBabies was in Bubs room meowing loudly. I went in to tell her off and there were two HUGE WASPS in there. HUGE and stuck behind the netting, so buzzing loudly and angry. I'm allergic and nearly cried. Ladies... I nearly got next door's husband to come and sort it out.

So obviously the sensible option was to keep flapping the curtains at a safe distance so they got the message, while calling them bastards and thinking where did I leave my epi-pen and do I even have one anymore.

I've texted the husband saying if they come back we are moving house.

nursebickypegs · 03/04/2017 18:46

Ps I say husband not in a sexist way, only because I can see his car in the drive!

ClaireSunflower · 03/04/2017 18:56

Has anyone else been clumsily knocking into things bump-first like I have? I think I underestimate how big I am nowadays and keep knocking it! Just now I was getting on the train and trying to squeeze past people to get down the aisle and knocked it on the side of on of the seats! I feel so bad like I've knocked the baby but in reality it's no harder than my midwife would press on my bump in an appointment. Think I need to be more careful!

teainbed · 03/04/2017 19:06

Claire I think you're head doesn't think you're that big and you think you can get through a space. It's like your brain hasn't got used to the difference! Something to do with proprioception no doubt.

jenny glad you had a better day.

FlowersCakeBrew for raspberry and everyone else who's had bad appointments. I suspect the midwives want to spend a lot more time with their patients but are under a lot of pressure too.

First day of maternity leave was spent visiting a sick friend and cleaning. Not feeling the nesting thing but we will be having lots of visitors once the baby is here (not overnight) so I want it to be vaguely clean and organised!

teainbed · 03/04/2017 19:06

*your and insert grammar wherever missing Blush

Autumnsweater · 03/04/2017 19:07

Thanks everyone for the scan support. They rang today at midday to tell me no appointments and they'll try again tomorrow.. my head nurse had to pretend to be me as I was in an emotional consult. Tried ringing the ultrasound department earlier but they said routine appts are full until May now so it's on the day or nothing.

rasperry that's rubbish, she should have been more supportive. Sometimes they ask these things just as a box ticking exercise don't they 🙄. I remember at the booking-in appointment being asked if I was a victim of domestic violence by a midwife in a monotone voice looking away at the computer screen - not sure she would have noticed if I'd said yes!
