Are you packing towels/baby towels in hospital bag? Pretty sure they supplied rubbish NHS ones for me but can't remember about the baby. We didn't bath my last two in hospital we did it when we got home. Pretty sure DS got bathed in hospital but that was a while ago I suspect there's been a shift in protocol somewhere along the line.

teainbed · 17/03/2017 14:02

Buggy has arrived. Grin

nursebickypegs · 17/03/2017 14:04

@teainbed we still have towels on wards, and it's more "hygienic" to use theirs as a wet towel isn't hanging about on the ward. I'm going to pack a dark one just in case.

vanilla8 · 17/03/2017 14:07

@dreamofhungarianlanterns what a neat hobby room! What did you get up to in there!?

RasperryInAMelon · 17/03/2017 14:39

@jennymac31 @1004Rise if it makes you feel any better... I haven't made it out of my dressing gown yet... I've got a GP appt at 5 so should probably think about getting in the shower shortly... 🤔

@teainbedI've packed towels for both of us as they don't have them at our hospital apparently and I hear it's good for baby to have towels that smell like home 😊

They provided towels last time for me and wrapped DD in one when she was first born. But we didn't bath her for days after we were home so don't remember needing any other towels for us in hospital.

Had 31 wk appointment earlier. All looking good. Was glad that I 'spoke' to you guys yesterday, I told the midwife about my mum and that I was struggling a bit, and then I cried, and she cried, and then we filled in a referral form for a pre-natal psychology service. She thinks it would be good for me to speak to someone, so I'm willing to give it a go.

coxsorangepippin · 17/03/2017 15:23

esmesbees good for you!

coxsorangepippin · 17/03/2017 15:25

I've just discovered a good app for doing your kegels. I downloaded it yesterday, it's called Squeezy. V simple interface with good visual prompts, apparently designed by NHS physios, and best of all it isn't pink - so if you were doing it on the train no one would be any the wiser!

RasperryInAMelon · 17/03/2017 15:26

@EsmesBees I'm pleased you've spoken to someone and that you're feeling ok about it. That's the most important thing Flowers

I've just had a courier deliver an archiving box from my sister in laws employer with a load of clothes she's getting rid of... this was just the 0-3 stuff I've sorted through! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm rapidly running out of room for clothes!!

Rasperry jealous!! Maybe bring anything you don't want/need to the SE meet up next week? #fingerscrossed ;)

Cox I remember hearing about that. Was told it was free but it's a whole £2.99!! Worth it?

Esmes glad it went well and good luck. Sometimes it's good to just vocalise!

Tea yay on your buggy arriving! Remind what you got?

Dream live your hobby room - looks like it's out of a magazine! What do/did you make in there?

Claire I should fess up - I don't drive. Was in the list to try and fix pre baby but hasn't happened so will have to be post. Wish me luck!!

Teaspoon74 · 17/03/2017 15:56

Question: I recently got food poisoning from a high street chain who sell ready lunches.

They admit they did wrong (crustacean allergy - crustacean contamination in soup - hospital and hives and vom and baby panic). The lunch cost £9.

They originally offered to gift me a spa day to say sorry and now they've offered to buy me "something for the baby" as a good will gesture.

If you were me, what sort of thing / price range would you be asking for??

jennymac31 · 17/03/2017 16:00

It's as though I was doomed not to get any work done today. Just realised I left my adapter in the office and only have 10% battery life left on the laptop! Oh well, will attempt to do final bits and pieces before laptop shuts down.

1004Rise · 17/03/2017 16:16

Esme well done! Glad you were able to talk to your midwife about it all BrewFlowers

Rasperry sorting that out was just another excuse to avoid getting dressed wasn't it Wink That's some stash you're collecting!

Jenny it just wasn't meant to be, I've done 3 of the things I wanted to finish, going to reward myself with a warm bath if I get all 5 done Smile

Tea I remember, that's a hard question. Is there anything left on your essentials list that you need to get?

We "built" our pram the other night to give the dogs a chance to get used to it... cue a disinterested huffffff from the lab and a bit more sniffing from the golden.... total blank. We also played the baby noises that came with the "how to tell your dog you're pregnant" virtually no reaction except to the squeaky toy tracks. We have laid back dogs!

newbieho · 17/03/2017 16:21

Esme that is good news, glad you had a chance to talk to your midwife. Big hug 🌷

EsmesBees · 17/03/2017 16:36

Thanks all. I feel completely wiped now. Only 2.5 hrs to dd's bedtime and I can have a long bath and a rest.

Teaspoon what an offer! I would go in high, they can always say no. If you've already got all the new baby bits, then maybe a nice high chair or a jumperoo for a few months down the line.

MrsJW15 · 17/03/2017 16:42

How do you find out in advance if the hospital provides towels? I wish they gave you lists! I think my sister is trying get rid of some of her boyfriend's old towels, and they are moving in a few weeks, so hopefully that will cover me for hospital/first few weeks mess.

Esmes that sounds tough but helpful, hope the referral comes through quickly.

Also not very productive here. Too tired this afternoon. Hoping to head off soon and swim.

Was v excited to get an email saying my M&P order has been dispatched - but it seems to be just the car seat adaptors, and not the buggy that we ordered with them! I'm still hoping for a Monday delivery.

EsmesBees · 17/03/2017 16:51

They do sometimes give you lists Mrs JW. There is one on our hospital's maternity web pages. But ask your midwife, you should get a longer appointment near the end to go through the logistics of giving birth.

nursebickypegs · 17/03/2017 16:58

@EsmesBees proud of you Esme. The hardest part is admitting you need help. We are all behind you!

nursebickypegs · 17/03/2017 16:58

@Teaspoon74 ooohhh!!! That's a big open ended question! I'd ask for a sleepyhead!

savagehk · 17/03/2017 17:00

Just realised I've not had the 'where I'm giving birth' discussion with a midwife yet and got a bit concerned. Had a flip through my notes and there's a space for them to sign off that they've told you all sorts of things (including what to pack in your bag, which would presumably cover if you need towels or not). I hope they intend to discuss at 34w. Would make sense to give you the info at 34w, and then have you confirm your choices at 38w. Before 38w you'd be pre-term.

nursebickypegs · 17/03/2017 17:04

@savagehk 34 weeks is when I have been told when I'm having my CS. I'm utterly convinced/scared that they will say earlier rather than later because of his size Blush

savagehk · 17/03/2017 17:08

Take it you meant 38w? 34 is early for a scheduled CS.

nursebickypegs · 17/03/2017 17:12

Yes, sorry @savagehk !

Brightsmoke · 17/03/2017 17:42

Well just back from Lidl, and very disappointed!! Rubbish selection.

Anyone else get really painful kicks in the ribs? It literally stops me in my tracks.

Tickyboovicki · 17/03/2017 17:49

bright I've started definitely feeling painful kicks, always the ribs!

Just wondered how peoples classes were going? I had a NHS baby matter class yesterday (just 2 hours) which was all about breastfeeding and first few days/weeks at home, then have my proper NHS day course tomorrow with the other half! Definitely makes it feel way more real which is terrifying but I'm excited anyway
