Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

I didn't get a baby bump as such until around 23 weeks and have only had a really noticeable one for about the last 2 weeks (I'm 33 weeks in Friday). Before 23 weeks I definitely just looked fat in general! My bump has smoothed out now instead of being in two separate sections, which is nice.

Hi all Easter Smile

Sorry to jump on in the middle of the thread but hoping I can join :)

I'm 14 weeks today Halo and had unfortunately ballooned from a size 12 pre first pregnancy right up to a size 18 this time. My BMI is also naturally pretty high (is over 25 when I'm at my lightest and not very pudgy) but was shocked to hear that I'd put on over a stone between before this (my second) pregnancy by the time I had my booking appointment. I also have a pear shape to carry most of my weight in my bum and thighs - not much on the tummy.

Luckily my midwife was really lovely at my booking appointment, as I was really worried about both the implications of my weight and the treatment I might receive as and result of it.

I just wanted to say to all of you not to be caught up up brought down by figures and numbers. It is perfectly possible to eat well and get some exercise and just generally have a healthy relaxed pregnancy. I put on loads of weight with my first and even though I was under BMI 30 at booking I was enormous by the end and it honestly wasn't a problem. And it was never mentioned as problem, even though if my booking had been that high I probably would hAve been subject to a lot more hassle about intervention etc (didn't have any even with an epidural last time).

I am a little worried though - I haven't been offered any advice regarding folic acid or aspirin. My blood pressure is really low though - should I worry about the aspirin? And I was upset to find out about the 5mg folic acid recommendation since I didn't find out until my booking and wasn't offered a prescription or anything :(

Cagliostro · 12/05/2017 17:57

Welcome! No I wasn't told about aspirin either. I have low BP naturally though (I have postural hypotension/tachycardia).

MW told me at booking in to ask GP about the high dose folic acid so I did but by the time I got to it was probably a bit pointless TBH. Scans have been good so not too worried but it's the 20 week one where they really investigate the spine apparently.

Nausea much better now but still putting in an appearance sometimes. Had a nice active week compared to normal as was on a holiday site so lots of walking around, and the biggest thing was I managed to go swimming two days in a row! Yay! This is something I avoid a lot as I get worried about dizziness/pain due to my health issues so I'm really pleased, as are my DCs who I can now take swimming without waiting for DH to get a day off.

CherriesInTheSnow · 12/05/2017 18:48

Sorry posted to soon!

I have no problem with healthy eating as most of the good I eat is good home cooked nourishing food courtesy of OH. However I eat way too much since having DD and I do love chocolate, which OH also supplies lots of to treat me Confused I'm not bothered about losing weight while pregnant but I really want to stop gaining after the birth and start slowly losing while breastfeeding (if all goes to plan)

I haven't see an OB yet - does anyone know how far into pregnancy you usually see them? Also, are extra growth scans done like normal ones or separately? I'm actually quite glad to be on consultancy care as hoping I will have a better hospital experience - my birth last time was actually very straightforward but was completely ruined by a very uncaring midwife :(

CherriesInTheSnow · 12/05/2017 18:50

Oh it actually didn't post the first half Envy

I was just waffling on congratulating you on your exercise and hoping I'll keep up my half an hour walk each way to and from work, and intend to start some pregnancy yoga too Easter Smile

MrsB12345 · 13/05/2017 07:06

Morning all. Happy Saturday!

Quick question. I've just weighed myself and I've gained 10lbs since getting pregnant. I'm 15w1d. Is that too much of a gain? I read somewhere that you should only really put on 5lbs in the first trimester and a 1lb there after but not sure how accurate that is x

Cagliostro · 13/05/2017 08:31

No idea about weight gain!

Thank you cherries - pregnancy yoga sounds good too :)

CherriesInTheSnow · 13/05/2017 08:56

Hi MrsB :)

To be honest weight gain can be a bit unpredictable in the first trimester IME, because of morning sickness. I would just try and eat healthily and not worry about cutting back! Do you have another midwife appointment soon?

CherriesInTheSnow · 13/05/2017 08:58

And Cagliostro there are some great videos on YouTube! I highly recommend a yoga ball as well, the Natural Birthing Company do one for around £20 that has no (realistic) weight limit and they are so useful for pregnancy aches and pains and labour - I love mine and it helped me stay at home for 13 hours before going to hospital :)

MrsB12345 · 13/05/2017 09:57

@CherriesInTheSnow my midwife app (16 week app) is next Friday so will check with her then x

Oh I was thinking about a ball thing the other day actually thanks! I expect my kids will steal it in the meantime :o but it does sound useful. :)

Nausea is back with a fucking vengeance. Feel absolutely hideous today.

Will look up yoga videos, was thinking pilates as well. Will also be getting the Davina pre/post natal DVD, as I had it before and loved it.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 15/05/2017 20:14

Hello gang. I lost the thread for ages. How is everyone?

Cagliostro · 15/05/2017 23:55

Hello!

I'm good thanks, other than the nausea being back in full swing. Thought it'd ease up soon (14 weeks). Midwife tomorrow so hoping we can hear heartbeat! When I saw the consultant and she couldn't hear it I wondered if it was because of the fat! Blush (she did a quick u/s instead)

How are you?

Cagliostro · 15/05/2017 23:58

Oooh and I'm going to start getting some maternity things soon I think. Currently ok with all my regular clothes - I had lost some weight before pregnancy so they were a little looser. But I need a new swimming costume as the underwires popped out of my old one Blush and so I am going for a cheap maternity one.

Not sure what to do about actual clothes though. I was a size 16 when I had my last baby so maternity clothes were easy to get. I'm now a 20 in most places. I've had a browse of Yours online and their stuff seems nice, but pricey! What else? Leggings and longer tops I guess? I feel clueless!

Prty · 16/05/2017 07:48

caglio in my trust they no longer routinely check for heartbeat before 20 weeks in clinic because hey weren't finding it (baby position, mums size etc) so it meant they were sending a lot of women to the hospital to be monitored (which is routine if they can't find heartbeat) I think they will try if you ask but if they can't hear it then you will be passed along.
New Look maternity range is pretty good - it only goes to 20 but I normally take 22-24 in there but the maternity stuff has fitted fine

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/05/2017 08:22

Yours stuff is pretty shite - I spent £100 on leggings, jeans and tops and it's falling apart.

I'm ok thanks, just waiting for baby to arrive. I'm so uncomfortable I just want it over now... but then also don't really want to have to look after a baby ConfusedGrin

dddddddddd · 16/05/2017 08:33

Just marking my place!!Grin

7 weeks and a size 22! Just trying to follow SlimmingWorld but DH is a feeder!!

Cagliostro · 16/05/2017 09:15

That's interesting about the heartbeat. Maybe it was just because it was the consultant.

Thanks for the heads up about Yours, come to think of it I've only ever bought one thing in there (I really don't like clothes shopping) and that didn't last well. Will check out new look, I do remember having stuff from there last time

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/05/2017 12:28

I've never had heartbeat listened for until after 16 weeks, think it's just too difficult and stressful for everyone before then.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/05/2017 13:33

(And that's policy for everyone, not just fatties)

Prty · 16/05/2017 15:17

peaceloveandbiscuits 😂😂😂😂
It's standard policy here too Grin
Had my last growth scan today - after ups and down he's now bang on target! Just a waiting game for me now...

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/05/2017 15:49

How many weeks prty? I was supposed to have three growth scans but negotiated it down to one. I'm 37+3 today. Seeing consultant tomorrow but more for mental health stuff.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/05/2017 15:50

DS came at 38+4 so I'll be very cross if this one doesn't come by next Wednesday!

Cagliostro · 16/05/2017 16:22

Must be different policy here then, MW checked heartbeat (I didn't ask). Heard it for the first time :) :)

Prty · 16/05/2017 16:46

peace I'm 36 weeks - scan should have been 37 but there was an anomaly at 34 week so they pulled it forward!
caglio it does vary by location, glad all went well though :)
