Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

@saltandvinegar1 we are going camping in 3 weeks and I'll be 10 weeks then. I hope this gets better then..

saltandvinegar1 · 30/05/2019 09:36

@McHelenz btw I just bought some ginger sweets from the health shop and they're actually really nice. Might be worth giving them a go?
They were called gin gins

I’ve received some decent plus size clothes from Bonprix, reasonably priced too. I was in between size 20-22 before the pregnancy so went for their 22-24 and they’re very roomy but I haven’t yet gained weight during the pregnancy. I’d say fit is a little generous but I like that it gives me some room for my final few months xx

Hi Ladies! Hoping I can join? I'm 15+3 with my first, BMI was 37 at booking app. I didn't quite expect to get pregnant but obviously and glad we did! We had intended on starting to try later this year, but I ended up falling pregnant before - so I wasn't on any folic acid until I found out, and then fromweek 3 I was taking the OTC pregnancy multivitamin with the standard dosage. My MW didn't say anything about that at my booking in app, just told me to keep taking it. But now I see that lots of people got special higher doses prescribed to prevent Spina Bifida and I'm terrified that I've put the baby at risk! Has everyone with a higher BMI had the high dosage?

McHelenz · 16/06/2019 09:35

My midwife mentioned it but then didn't tell me to take it. I've been prescribed aspirin to take from 12 weeks.

pregnantandsuffering · 16/06/2019 09:57

Thanks @McHelenz - what is the aspirin for?

McHelenz · 16/06/2019 09:59

Because my BMI is 35 it's to try and limit the pre ecelampsia risk.

clairemarie2702 · 16/06/2019 10:40

My BMI is over 40 and I was given additional folic acid to take from week 7-12 x

Hi, hope everyone doing well. When did people start feeling their bump form properly? I'm 14 weeks and feel like I can feel a firmness in my lower stomach. When I put a top tight round my belly I can see that the curve of my stomach has moved up and firmed up. But I think it's only me who could notice that just now if that makes sense? I can't wait to have a huge pregnant bump instead of questionable weight/fat etc, so that it's really obvious I'm pregnant. Am I crazy??

McHelenz · 22/06/2019 10:03

@TDLO not at all. I'm almost 11 weeks and feeling very podgy. Lots of people in my mum to be Facebook group have little bumps and I'm just like a whale 🙈

pregnantandsuffering · 22/06/2019 10:26

Oh I'm with you ladies there. Sixteen weeks and I have a bump but it's a combination of bump and podge. I still just look porky to anyone who doesn't know.

Beeseeinya · 24/06/2019 00:21

I'm 25 weeks and have a proper bump, with a wobbly bit at the bottom. I am not sure it's that huge or obvious to others, though it is to me. I am hourglass shaped and don't have a lot of fat around my stomach. But I think the current size of bump in proportion to the rest of me means it goes unnoticed.

clairemarie2702 · 24/06/2019 00:25

I’m 29 weeks and git a proper bump from about week 24, happy that I actually look pregnant and not just more fat lol x

MrsB12345 · 25/06/2019 22:07

Ahhh so nice to see my original post is still going. I now have a 19 month old and we are on our journey for TTC no 2 x

@MrsB12345 congratulations!

Does anyone know where to get decent and affordable plus size maternity bras from? Thanks xx

pregnantandsuffering · 07/07/2019 10:49

@clairemarie2702 I ordered a loaf of bra extended straps from amazon to resolve my bra issues. I had only had very supportive brad prior to falling pregnant and found them quite restrictive, but the extensions have made them all much more comfortable

LJS8987 · 07/07/2019 19:05

@clairemarie2702 it depends what you class as affordable....I've just got a molke really comfy and goes up to something like a 48n they're about £35

clairemarie2702 · 09/07/2019 19:18

@LJS8987 @pregnantandsuffering.
Thanks ladies, just realised I can use existing extenders on the feeding bras I have if they get too tight once my milk comes in. I’ll have a look at Molke also x

pregnantandsuffering · 19/07/2019 22:42

Hey ladies - does anyone have a bump yet? I'm 20 weeks and gutted that I just look fat and completely bump less :( I think it's because I have a bit of a tummy that hangs down a bit, so I'm scared I will never look pregnant :( I was a size 18-20 pre pregnancy and Was losing weight but now my waist is getting thicker and that's really it :(

saltandvinegar1 · 09/08/2019 09:23

@pregnantandsuffering
Me I just look far too I don't look pregnant at all... I'm 17 weeks

pregnantandsuffering · 09/08/2019 21:01

@saltandvinegar1 I have a little bump now but could easily just be mistaken for fat and not bump :( it's an ongoing sadness of mine lol

Lavellan · 18/09/2019 17:13

Nice to have a legacy @MrsB12345 Grin

Just wanted to report I had my beautiful wee girl on 4/9/19 weighing 7lbs 3oz (right on 50th centile). At no point on my journey did my weight play a factor on my pregnancy or delivery. I never saw a consultant. In fact, when I was in labour I heard my handover several times where they reffered to me as "low risk, high risk on notes only because of bmi of 36.5".

Sadly my labour ended in an emergency c-section, but my family is full of them so I think it's just one of those things.

One thing I had NO IDEA about - obesity is a risk factor in slow/low milk production. I knew about c-section risk but after the fact I did some reading and realised I had not one but several risk factors. Something to maybe just have a quick look into if you're planning to bf.xx
