Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

That's great @Lavellan , good to know 😊

GrandTheftWalrus · 20/05/2019 13:58

My BMI is 29.4 so I imagine they'll say something about me being overweight. I was 24.5 when I got pregnant with dd.

I read the diabetes test is for BMI over 30, is that when you are pregnant or do they keep an eye on you and when it goes over 30 they test you?

TDLO · 21/05/2019 07:32

@GrandTheftWalrus my MW said they only use your starting weight/bmi because after that it will be pregnancy weight too. Not sure if that's the same everywhere. Well done coming in under 30! 👍🏻

Hello this thread has been going on for sometime I haven't read through yet! I made a read and someone told me there's one like it already
This is my problem

Hey guys
Is it possible to loose weight when pregnant
I'm actually very overweight I'm 90kg and I'm expecting. I was wondering if anyone has lost weight while at being pregnant and what they did. I'm only 6 weeks at the moment and it's a big concern for me.
My husband even said to me today that he is worried about my weight it did really make me feel shit and upset.
Any advice would be really helpful.
Thank you x

I'm feeling really worried I would love to loose weight in this pregnancy

TDLO · 23/05/2019 23:10

Hi @saltandvinegar1 first of all congrats xx You are not as overweight as you think. I'm a bit ahead of you and have been told nothing to worry about at the moment (maybe diabetes test later in pregnancy, but cross that bridge when I come to it). I wouldn't recommend losing weight without speaking to your midwife first. Sometimes they will recommend Slimming World but not for weight loss, more for health.

Even if you've not had your appointment yet, you can call and speak to a midwife.

I think, try not to gain to much weight in first trimester and try and eat healthy as possible while pregnant, that gives baby what it needs to grow.

Try not to worry, I know that's easier said than done. Our emotions and hormones are completely all over the place, it's easy to get upset.

I went through two weeks of major guilt over my weight then I seen my MW for first appt a week ago and she was so reassuring. Lots of ladies of all shapes and sizes give birth perfectly healthy, every day. Hang in there and most of all, don't beat yourself up!! It won't do any good.

@saltandvinegar1
I’m 125kg if
That makes you feel any better!
I’m 25+2 and have lost 4lb so far. I didn’t have bad morning sickness and I’m not at the gym everyday. I was obviously very overweight to begin with and have been conscious of eating 8-10 nutritious foods (instead of 5) every day. I’m not depriving myself of other items like crisps, chocolate and cake but by the time I’ve ate enough nutritious foods I don’t want as much of the treat foods as I used to eat.
Hope it helps xxx

saltandvinegar1 · 24/05/2019 07:59

@TDLO ah thank you for your kind words. It has made me feel better. I'm still upset with the husband... like he shouldn't have said that to me. I do know I'm overweight it's not like I don't know and am not aware of it.
Ok that's good to know I'll give them a call. Any idea when is the first time they tend to call you in?x

saltandvinegar1 · 24/05/2019 08:01

@clairemarie2702 ah thank you. It's good to know I'm not alone out there. I do have a sweet tooth! I will do the same make some changes in my diet. So this whole pregnancy you've not put on any weight but lost some?x

Lavellan · 24/05/2019 08:05

@saltandvinegar1 It's not a good idea to focus on losing weight. I think it's not so much the calories- because we have reserves for our babies and they take what they need- but the "dieting" all too often means restricting food groups somewhere, and then potentially missing out important minerals and vitamins. I wouldn't be confident to do it. To me, good bone and teeth health for my lifetime is more important right now than skipping that glass of milk.

But I haven't piled on weight either, and there isn't really any need to. Turn that focus onto health rather than the scales.xx

clairemarie2702 · 24/05/2019 08:40

@saltandvinegar1
Glad you’re feeling a bit better. I have a sweet tooth too but I genuinely have been focusing on eating lots of different nutritious foods and making sure the baby gets everything they need. @lavellan is right now isn’t a time to think about dieting, it’s all about eating food which will give the baby what it needs.
That’s right so far I haven’t gained any weight, I’ve lost 4lb. Midwife is happy with it as I did have a few extra kilo to begin with and baby is growing nicely. There’s no need to gain loads of additional weight if you eat for nutritious benefit 90% of the time.

I’ve also been trying to avoid the Gestational Diabetes we are warned about so am just eating a good balanced diet. I do have treats most days, just not as much as I used to have xxx

McHelenz · 24/05/2019 18:40

I'd love to be 90kg again haha. Im 6+3 and just echo what the others say. I've tried to eat much better and Ive possibly lost a little by only drinking water, not snacking so much, losing apetite and being a bit sick! If the midwife asks me to consider slimming world then I will go, I'm trying to think of the little person and not just me!

saltandvinegar1 · 26/05/2019 01:42

@Lavellan thank you you really have put things into perspective. I think if I eat well
And healthy I should loose some pounds on the way too x

saltandvinegar1 · 26/05/2019 01:43

@McHelenz thank you! I will up my water intake too.

saltandvinegar1 · 26/05/2019 01:44

When did morning sickness start for you guys? I'm officially 6 weeks. X

McHelenz · 27/05/2019 11:21

@saltandvinegar1 as soon as I hit 6+1 the vommiting started.

NewbieMam · 29/05/2019 22:52

Hello! Hoping to join Smile
I'm 7 or 8 weeks were not 100% sure but booked an early scan for 9th June to find out.
Had an early session they do in my area to give you general information, then booking appointment isn't until 20th June (assumed 11 weeks at this point). This is my first pregnancy, BMI 37 (but I'm 5"10 and feel like I carry it ok- though since conceiving more of a belly bulge than normal)
Generally not worried about my weight, though concerned about GD as diabetes (type 1 and 2) are in my close family

Lavellan · 30/05/2019 06:37

Hi newbiemam! Smile

saltandvinegar1 · 30/05/2019 09:28

@McHelenz same for me I started vomiting same time. I went to the gp and got some
Tablets for it

saltandvinegar1 · 30/05/2019 09:30

@NewbieMam hello. Congratulations xx

McHelenz · 30/05/2019 09:30

@saltandvinegar1 yea I have had to as well. I'm off work because I was just being sick all day.

saltandvinegar1 · 30/05/2019 09:32

@McHelenz ah poor you xxx
It's not nice.
Hope this time passes too! Quickly!
I'm going on holiday on the 8th July! Which is near the 12 week mark or just approaching it x
