Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

I'm a stone heavier too. My diet has been terrible, I just want carbs and sugar!

NauseousNancy · 14/03/2017 22:31

It's difficult isn't it! I've been trying to keep track of calories but I am gaining anyways and hungry so should probably just give it up!

MrsB12345 · 16/03/2017 07:25

How's everyone doing today? We've been on holiday so have eaten pretty badly over the past few days. Not drinking alcohol was the hardest part Hmm

We're telling both sets of parents today and tomorrow. In laws today and mine tomorrow. I'm 6+6 today. Am considering getting an early scan over the next week or two to make sure everything is ok but it's scary in case it's not....Confused

My BMI was 38 as well at booking in January and I've managed to only put on 3.5lbs so far. Joined slimming world on the recommendation of my midwife and family members. It's hard though.

I went off food initially but now all I want to eat is crap!

Catherinebee85 · 16/03/2017 08:30

I'm 18+5 Smile

honeysucklejasmine · 16/03/2017 08:41

Hi all. I am pregnant with #2, and have a BMI of 39. Last time it was 41 at booking.

My pregnancy was V straight forward. Had to have a gtt but didn't get diabetes. I have hypothyroidism so would have been consultant led anyway, so my BMI made very little difference to my pregnancy. I lost weight during pregnancy due to copious amounts of vomit and food aversions.

Have my booking appointment on Monday. I am 10 weeks and so far have gained 1lb.

MrsB12345 · 19/03/2017 14:34

Love to see the positive pregnancy stories ladies. Just because we have a little extra cushioning doesn't mean we can't have a normal pregnancy right?! 😘

I think that's it MrsB - it's nice to hear isn't it!

I have my gestational diabetes test this week...very nervous!

How is everyone?

HopingForALittleOne · 20/03/2017 11:54

Hi Nancy when do they test for gestation diabetes? Good luck xx

I have my booking in appointment with midwife on 18 th April so I will see what she says. My bmi is just over 35.

NauseousNancy · 20/03/2017 12:32

28 weeks for the diabetes test :) I think that's as early as they can as it doesn't always show before then x

MrsB12345 · 20/03/2017 20:05

I'm suffering with the dreaded morning sickness at the mo. Luckily (I guess) it's not actual sickness just nausea but boy it's a killer. Am 7w3d so think I'm in for a few more weeks of this 😩. How's everyone else?

OP posts:
HopingForALittleOne · 20/03/2017 20:20

Poor you mrsb I'm only five weeks so it hasn't started yet. I get odd moments of nausea but some cream crackers seem to help it go away. Hugs to you xx

MrsB12345 · 20/03/2017 20:28

Thanks Hun. I've had it for a week and 2 days. Eating often has helped but I seem to be eating the wrong foods at the mo and worried my lottery pebble is t getting the nutrients they need although I am taking pregnancy vitamins x

The nausea is awful! I was sick and had all day nausea. It passed for me around 17 weeks - if it really continues don't be afraid to go and ask your doctor for help. I did and got some tablets that helped hugely and got me through the last few weeks before it passed.

I'm still sick here and there and feel a bit sick at times but much better than I was.

Keep up eating when you can - it can be a viscous cycle of hunger making you nauseous, so then you don't eat, so you feel more nauseous. I found still lemonade helped a bit - you know the fresh stuff you can get in m&s, the sugar helped!

Teaspoon74 · 21/03/2017 23:32

Congratulations ladies! And thanks for the thread MrsB!

Meow not got HG, but ban bad nausea. Have lost nearly 2 stone over past 4 months!! Am now 32w with a defined bump and still mostly wearing my usual/ pre baby gear (sizes 22-24, depending on fit etc).

Haveacup mostly go for comfort, I've been living in Sainsbury's leggings for months now. Enough stretch to go over bump, which is great!!

Unexpected 1st only pregnancy. Had a BMI of 45 at registration, and am a first timer over 40 so consultant has md on daily injections of Fragmin - anti DVT shots Confused

Still getting the nausea (kicked in at end of 1st tri and can't shake it!). Different strokes for different folks, but I find beef monster munch is one of the few things I can keep down!!

honeysucklejasmine · 23/03/2017 18:00

I am having two gtt - 16 and 28 weeks. The first is because of hypothyroidism, the second because of BMI.

I will also have an appointment with the anaesthetist at 28 weeks so they can check my veins etc. Had it last time too - all V routine, in and out appointments.

If you sickness doesn't go, please do ask for cyclizine. It saved me last time.

Teaspoon74 · 23/03/2017 19:35

Thanks for the tip Honey. I do have some mess from my obs team but tbh I can't keep them down long enough for them to work! And they and my vitamins seem to me make me more nauseous so I've been avoiding on the basis it's more important I eat something and keep it than have yoyo bits (sorry if too graphic!!).

Teaspoon74 · 23/03/2017 19:36

Oops - meds not mess!!

NauseousNancy · 23/03/2017 20:59

Seconded on asking for cyclizine! I was prescribed it too and it made such a difference.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 24/03/2017 21:00

Hi
I'm on my second plus size pregnancy, so very happy to answer any questions anyone might have about what to expect.

BMI is 43 (I'm very short!) but I'm very fit and active, no high blood pressure, no diabetes, no high cholesterol etc. I've had hyperemesis in both pregnancies, and when I gave birth the first time I was two stone lighter than before I conceived!

I've got hypothyroidism and mental health issues, so wouldn't have been allowed in the MLU regardless of BMI. To be honest, I don't find the labour ward bad at my hospital. Last time I was lucky enough to labour in the pool, which was fantastic.

Both pregnancies have been straight forward (so far). I'm 30 weeks so just waiting for results of GTT on Thursday - fingers crossed all ok, because I can't be arsed with any more appointments than I've already got!

Nice to meet you all! Smile

MrsB12345 · 25/03/2017 20:06

Ahhhh @peaceloveandbiscuits not at all. I've been asleep most of today. Fatigue is killing me. I'm 8+1 and have terrible nausea so being asleep isn't a bad thing x

OP posts:
peaceloveandbiscuits · 25/03/2017 20:56

It's rough the first few weeks Flowers
9 weeks was peak nausea time for me (luckily I don't get nausea with HG, just random vomming). Sleep as much as you can.

NauseousNancy · 26/03/2017 20:32

Hello peaceloveandbiscuits! Thank you for the offer of answering any questions!

MrsB it's rough - I was sleeping about 12 hours a night and naps in the day too. Just go with it - your body needs it.

I have been told my results were borderline for gestational diabetes - pretty gutted!!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 26/03/2017 20:52

Nauseous what do they do for borderline results? I was fine last time but had GTT on Thursday last week, so giving them until Tuesday to ring me with any bad news. I'm nervous because I'm keen to avoid induction.
