Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

@Cagliostro we have our 12 week scan next thurs and I will be 12w6d. I think a week or so either side is fine. We've talked about names too - we can't decide on any and we have 28 weeks to go!! X

caglio I'm sure that's fine but depending on your size don't be unprepared for an internal - my scan was booked for exactly 12 weeks but due to my flabby tummy they couldn't see clearly enough so ended up having an internal.
Prams are horrifying in terms of price - they are like designer items! I was 100% against going to Mothercare as I thought they were overpriced but I popped in for a look and ended up buying one! It was their own brand though and the travel system cost less than £200 - cheapest I'd seen for a new one anywhere

Cagliostro · 22/04/2017 11:04

It's ok I had an internal for my dating scan and had a few before that so am used to it now thankfully :) as well as the flab, I also have the issue that my uterus is backwards!!! So the sonographer said it's even harder to see it the normal way.

Cagliostro · 22/04/2017 11:07

I'll check out the mothercare one for sure thanks! I'm not sure what we need really. We don't have a car but would need a car seat anyway for taxis etc I guess. Needs to be easy to use on buses (although thankfully around here the buses are more roomy than they were where I lived when DD was born). House is tiny so I don't really want the carrycot bit. Decisions decisions!

PrtyPsn · 22/04/2017 20:21

On mine the carrycot turns into a parent or world facing seat - much better than having extra seat attachments. It's called Roam, worth a quick peek!

Cagliostro · 22/04/2017 22:37

Fab, thank you! That sounds more like DS' one, the seat sort of folded down and the sides popped up so it could be used as a proper pram type bed.

On DD's buggy it was a separate thing and I think we only used it on the buggy like once :o the rest of the time we actually used it instead of a moses basket (and kept it for DS too) but we will probably get an actual moses basket this time instead as it's cheaper and easier to move around!

Evening everyone. Quick question...

I'm now 12 weeks pregnant and at last count had put around 6lbs on since finding out we were pregnant. I don't think that's too bad and a lot will be down the the huge amount of extra water I am drinking / feeling bloated. However, I am continuously facing constant pressure from my husband and mum to watch what I'm eating and my husband says I should calorie count daily. I appreciate they are worried but this, amongst other things (hubby is selectively supportive), is making me not enjoy my pregnancy. I know I'm obese (size 20) and I know I should have lost weight before getting pregnant but this is who I am. It's just getting me down ConfusedSad

That's really not of them to try and pressure you. You are a grown woman and you know what's good and bad for you.
Medical professionals will hound you enough without family doing it! Midwife told me although I shouldn't try to lose weight while pregnant there's no harm in being cautious - apparently they recommend 2 stone gain for a 'normal' pregnancy but only one stone if you have a high BMI. The result was I spent the first few weeks terrified to eat anything!
I've weighted myself 3 times over my pregnancy with the following results (in order) gained 4lb from conception to 9 weeks, gained 4lb from 9 weeks to 20 weeks, lost 4lb from 20 weeks to 30 weeks. I figure my body is gonna do whatever the hell it wants while pregnant - it knows how to grow and maintain life, I trust it to do so.
p.s through all of those stages hcps were not happy at any point with my weight changes Hmm

Cagliostro · 29/04/2017 17:09

Quiet on here! How's everyone doing?

I agree it's not on to put pressure on you. I'm sure the MW would have said if they wanted you to calorie count. Otherwise I'd just try and make good choices when you can. Which isn't always easy when you're growing a person!

I had no idea about the 2 vs 1 stone weight gain. I know I've lost half a stone since new year (and people have commented I look slimmer) but I'm not sure how much of that was since conceiving - it's mostly due to cutting down massively on fizzy drinks, but it probably 'helped' that for much of the epic nausea phase I was unable to eat much at all. I'm almost sad that I'm able to stomach a bit more now, but I'm trying to make better choices

I've got an appt at a different hospital next week - I'm assuming that might be one of the specialists I'm seeing. That's the day after my 12 week scan (about which I'm terrified!). I also have an appointment for August and I'm wondering if that's the anesthetist, as presumably it'd be a bit pointless while it's so early and we've no idea how much weight I'll gain.

Still feeling sick, but it seems to not be quite so bad now. Which I'm half pleased about and half panicking about because it's quite early still. I am just so anxious this time round. I'm incredibly excited about our little surprise but I'm so worried about everything that I'm not enjoying pregnancy at all.

I'm really pleased though, yesterday I managed to walk a little more than I normally do. It was a route I've avoided for a while because of my health issues but I did it and was really pleased! It wasn't far at all, and that route was nothing before I got ill as I used to do it all the time, but hopefully it's a good sign that I can manage a little more exercise for the moment. I don't feel so achy - partly the weather helps with this (fibromyalgia is really affected by the cold for me), I'm also wondering if I'm starting to feel the effects of the hormone changes causing ligaments to soften a bit? I have no idea!

MrsB12345 · 29/04/2017 18:55

I'm just doing what I think is right. Sometimes I want a treat and I think sod it, I eat enough healthy food on a daily basis and this pregnancy malarkey isn't easy at times. We had our 12 wk scan on Thursday. Baby doesn't like it's photo being taken. It moved around loads but not in one place for long enough for a pic so we got the back of its head and back. Was amazing to see though. Just amazing x

Awww that's fab! How lovely! Nothing like it, seeing the baby wriggling about. :)

Prty · 02/05/2017 19:27

He's turned!!!! After a weekend of getting myself into an assortment of poses and positions today's scan revealed baby is now head down! Huge relief Grin

Cagliostro · 03/05/2017 07:01

Excellent! Well done babyPrty! :)

12 week scan today. Nervous.

Prty · 03/05/2017 07:16

Awww good luck caglio I'm sure there's nothing to panic about but I know how you're feeling - I was an absolute nervous wreck going for mine! Just breathe and lean on whoever you're taking with you x

Cagliostro · 03/05/2017 07:17

Thanks :) it's DH today, he was working when I had my dating scan (mum came with me instead which was lovely) and he's super excited.

Cagliostro · 03/05/2017 10:48

Scan was good! Covered my eyes in a panic until they saw the heartbeat. Didn't need an internal scan this time so that was good although I was prodded a lot to get the baby to turn!

Here's the crazy bit though. I was weighed again and I've lost 1.25 stone in the last month?! I wonder what the consultant will say. I think I'm seeing them tomorrow - at least, I have an appt at the big hospital (the one where I'll give birth, the local one just has antenatal/ultrasound etc not labour ward) so I assume it's the consultant, it doesn't actually say why I'm going Confused. Anyway, I haven't tried to lose weight at all - I think it's just because of having less fizzy drinks (I was 20st when I cut down at new year, now 18st3) and just not wanting to eat as much - I think I'm still eating plenty though TBH.

Kitsandkids · 04/05/2017 00:01

I would assume that as long as baby was a decent size for its age at your scan that they should be pleased with your weight loss. But who knows!

I had a scan yesterday at almost 32 weeks and a diabetes clinic today. Again they tried to push me into taking Metformin and again I refused - I feel absolutely fine and the baby is exactly where it should be growth wise - following the 50th centile. My blood pressure's fine, my urine sample was fine, my home blood sugar tests are ok (a bit high first thing in the morning but not wildly so), I've only put on 3kg all pregnancy, I don't feel affected at all mobility wise. I don't think there's a problem.

Yet they want me to go for another scan in 2 weeks 'because if something happens to baby we'll need to get it out as soon as possible.' I almost feel that they want something to go wrong so they can be proved right!

Cagliostro · 04/05/2017 10:48

That sounds frustrating kits! It sounds like you're on top of it all.

My appt was ok today. It was a doctor who looks after women with other medical conditions (as I have CFS fibromyalgia and POTS) but she's not concerned. She's referring me back to my local hospital (thank goodness - it's a 90min bus ride to the further one and that isn't easy when you need to pee all the time 😂) to see someone due to the BMI, but she was nice about it (really seems like luck of the draw how people treat you re BMI) reassuring me I've had 2 healthy babies before etc. She said well done on the weight loss but basically not to actively try and lose more IYSWIM. Will see what the other consultant says. And I now have to see my actual local midwife again which is nice.

She's added another scan to the list - thought I was just having 2 growth scans (due to DS' big birth weight) but she's requesting 28, 32 and 36 weeks. I'm happy with that as I get so panicky between scans anyhow.

Had a mini scan today, she couldn't hear the heartbeat on the Doppler so she just checked, all good.

Oh the other thing - because the doctor told me (after DS was born so big) that I may have developed GD late in pregnancy last time, this specialist has said I should have the lucozade test at 24 weeks, and they'll repeat it at 28 and possibly later too

AtlantaGinandTonic · 04/05/2017 10:58

I was massive with both my pregnancies and as such was classed as high risk (think size 26 at least). I had textbook pregnancies with both babies though, no blood pressure or blood sugar problems, nothing aside from achy hips. The anaesthetist actually said that he didn't know why I was classed as high risk, that I was fine and he didn't understand why I wasn't allowed to just carry on as normal! DD1 was back to back and needed a forceps delivery but DD2 pretty much delivered herself lol. :)

Cagliostro · 04/05/2017 11:25

The consultant today said similar - carry on as normal, don't medicalise it

MrsB12345 · 10/05/2017 19:03

Hi ladies. I have a little niggle that worries me that I'm not going to have a lovely round baby bump - currently my whole tummy is expanding and I'm on 14 weeks 5 days. I guess in a few weeks I will look more pregnant but at the mo I just feel like I will always just look fat ConfusedSad. Anyone else? If you want to share any pics of baby bumps it would be great x

OP posts:
TreasureInMyTummy · 10/05/2017 19:16

MrsB I worry about that too - would also love some pics and reassurance. Especially interested to know if you get a 'pregnancy bump' as opposed to looking just more fat, when did it happen? ( I'm just over 12 weeks) x

Cagliostro · 10/05/2017 19:29

I'm sure you guys will! I'm the same at the moment, just fat (13wks), but once the baby gets big it will properly stretch you out and be a bump.

My worry is when I'll feel baby move. It's my third pregnancy so should be earlier but I'm so much bigger. Plus I get a lot of random flutters in my belly anyway for the last couple of years (so much that I have actually wrongly suspected pregnancy before a few times) and how will I know it's real? I thought I felt something really low down a couple of times but I have no idea. I'm so anxious this time and want to count kicks etc (was never told to the first times although I was generally aware if they went quiet) but what if I can't feel anything because basically there's too much fat in the way?!

Mind you I'm also in a bit of a tizz because my nausea seems to have vanished in the last few days. I know it's about the right time for it to ease up, as I've just entered the second trimester, but for all my complaining while I felt sick I am now floundering a bit without it TBH - horrible as it was (it really was so much worse than with the others) at least it was reminding me that I really am pregnant!

Prty · 10/05/2017 19:35

If I can locate a big enough mirror then I'll gladly share my bump - not to worry you but I'm 35 weeks and still just look fat... in fact people can't always tell I'm pregnant by looking at me. It's more obvious in maternity clothes but I dont have the traditional round 'D' shape, mine is still two separate stomachs of fat like a 'B' I did hope pregnancy would smooth it out but no such luck :(

Prty · 10/05/2017 19:39

caglio size won't impact on when and how you feel as baby is still kicking against uterus, not body fat. Try not to panic, it can be as late as 22-24 weeks depending on position and placenta. Also, please don't count kicks as in looking for a specific number, it's outdated advice to number them - just get to know baby's pattern and get checked if there's any deviance from what is normal for them
