Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

I need your help ladies!
I'm 14 weeks and I have crippling lower back pain and nothing I can take. I am meant to be seeing a consultant but still haven't had anything through. Have any of you had simular and could possibly recommend anything?

clairemarie2702 · 10/04/2019 21:45

Has anyone found a good place to buy plus size knickers from?

clairemarie2702 · 10/04/2019 21:48

@Lavellan lovely perspective to have! X

clairemarie2702 · 10/04/2019 21:49

@Whowouldhavethoughtit you can have paracetamol I think? A hot water bottle may help x

Laurajp23 · 11/04/2019 10:22

Hi all!
I'm 9 weeks today and am a size 20/22 (depends on what I'm wearing! 😂)
I wanted to lose weight before getting pregnant, but we actually ended up conceiving in our first month of trying so that out that plan out of the window!

I have been feeling my jeans are tight now and so now I mostly wear leggings... Finding plus size maternity clothes are quite expensive?? So I'm going to try and just get normal clothes but in a bigger size for a while and see how that goes!

I haven't had my booking appointment yet and so dreading what she is going to say about my weight.
So happy to have found a few bread with other people like me! 😁

Glittergirl2 · 06/05/2019 11:50

Hi All,

@Laurajp23 I'm in the same position although it's really early days for my pregnancy. I've lost 3 stone in the last year and half and reading all the things online about how it takes larger ladies longer to conceive I decided to come off the pill whilst I was still dieting. I've fell pregnant straight away and worrying about my first appointment with midwife. I've continued to eat healthy and have a few weeks before I need to even ring the midwife to book in. I'm a size 18 with a BMI of 37
Do any of you lovely ladies have any advice? x

Lavellan · 06/05/2019 13:26

Glittergirl I'm the same size and my midwife did not mention my weight even once. I am on the high risk pathway for extra scans, this seems to be for everyone over either 30 or 35 bmi I'm not sure. I don't know how it might affect delivery yet, hoping not too much.

Oddly I confused the poor guy when I went for my 20 week scan, my ultrasound tech didn't understand why I was on extra scans he thought I must be diabetic or had previous miscarriages... No buddy, just fat.

Lavellan · 06/05/2019 13:38

My tips so far is that exercising in the first trimester can be really tough for various reasons, but you'll get back to it so don't give up completely.

Also, the further on I am the smaller portions I want to eat. This has actually been kind of tricky for me since a big part of weight control was not snacking and eating big meals instead. Get thinking of healthy snacks and get into a water drinking routine.

Laurajp23 · 06/05/2019 14:31

I've actually ended up losing about half a stone in my first trimester, and the midwife said it was totally fine.
All she said was that I would be having appointments with a consultant just to keep an eye on my pregnancy and they might give me some diet plans etc to follow depending on what they think.
My portion sizes have almost more than halved in the last few weeks too, so that'll be helping!

Glittergirl2 · 06/05/2019 16:39

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I'm an active person I've got a horse and I'm up at half 5 every morning mucking out and walk the dog daily etc just always struggled with my weight. Fingers crossed I can carry on losing in the early days too x

TDLO · 09/05/2019 18:28

Hi all, hoping I can join. I'm a size 16/18 bmi is probably around 37 so quite worried after reading this thread but also reassured in a way too. I'm only about 5'4 so don't carry the weight very well.

I'm only 7+6 days just now, so still early days, but seen the heartbeat last week, so very pleased about that.

It's just made me think that whatever I'm eating the baby is eating and I want to make sure I give it the best. I'm very lucky that I'm not puking so I can handle eating healthy etc. Such a worry isn't it on top of everything else. Hope everyone is hanging in there xx

McHelenz · 13/05/2019 16:01

Hi all, can I join? 5 weeks exactly tomorrow, size 18. Was hoping to lose a bit of weight be got pregnant pretty quick!! Hoping to not put too much on...very worried my weight will cause issues!!

TDLO · 13/05/2019 16:16

Hi @McHelenz , welcome!!

I've been very up and down about my weight, anxious in general about this pregnancy. Just trying my best to eat really healthily now so hopefully that is good enough for now.
How are you feeling with things?
Congrats on your pregnancy x

McHelenz · 13/05/2019 16:41

@tdlo I'm the same, I'm anxious about everything but I'm not as bad as I could be. I have had heart burn and lots of cramping but have avoided any spotting.

I think an issue I've had is I'm on annual leave so I'm not distracted. Hopefully once I'm at work it'll be better.

TDLO · 13/05/2019 16:46

Yeah as much as I've wanted to sit in a bubble I've found work very distracting ( I just need to be careful not to get too stressed). I'm 8+ 3. I really do not know how I got here as time dragged in till I got to 6 weeks for my reassurance scan. I found out really early too, 4 days prior to period so feel like I've been waiting since the beginning of time lol. But time does eventually pass.

Got my midwife booking in appt Wednesday, and dreading a telling off about my weight, will let you know how it goes.

Hang in there!! X

McHelenz · 13/05/2019 17:46

@TDLO I've lost all my appetite so im hoping that means I'll lose a little bit. I hope I don't get a lecture - It doesn't make me want to lose weight haha.

We aren't having any early scans, but I feel like I need to stock up on tests just to confirm I am pregnant. It doesn't feel real. My booking in appointment isn't until the 11th June which can't come soon enough.

TDLO · 13/05/2019 18:04

I know. It's a tough place to be in. I've lost a few pounds though completely unintentional as I'm not sure if weight loss is recommended or not (google tells me not, but then I know some midwives do say try for a loss in first trimester)l. But eating healthy and trying to be more active, within the calorie limits has lead to a slight loss.

I only had the scan due to previous loss, trying my best not to go scan crazy as it's early hard to believe there's something in there.

Time will fly once you're back to work. Find something to keep yourself busy. I've recently inherited a sewing machine, so trying to figure that out has been a good distraction 😂

McHelenz · 13/05/2019 18:24

@TDLO I crochet which helps keep me busy :). This is my first pregnancy so I dont know what to feel or expect. I found out 3 days before my period so its so early and Im worried it could end badly - even though there's no reason for it to.

Its strange, im worried, however my intuition doesn't make me feel like theres something wrong (and im a nurse, my intuition is pretty sharp!! haha)

TDLO · 13/05/2019 18:30

It's so hard isn't it just to trust what is happening. It's a good thing that you don't 'feel' that something is wrong. As that's often a tell tale sign.

TDLO · 13/05/2019 18:36

Oh crocheting is next in my list to try. 😊

McHelenz · 13/05/2019 19:07

I have a book called 9 months to crochet :) its got some really nice patterns in!

TDLO · 13/05/2019 19:22

I've just looked the book up, that's so cute! Think I might invest 😊

TDLO · 15/05/2019 18:42

Had booking in appt today. No lectures though bmi is 37 so I do need to be consultant lead. But MW said that just means I might have one appt with consultant and if they're happy I'll see her.

My MW was lovely, I already told her when she done a reminder call to me that I was really nervous about my weight. She asked me if I needed healthy eating advice but told her I've been more healthy than ever now since the positive test so she was happy with all of that.

I was really worried but the appointment e was great and no judgement or worry, just facts so was good.

Lavellan · 15/05/2019 19:06

I just had 24 wk appt and I was a little nervous this would be where they tell me I have to see a consultant. But midwife says they will judge based on my 28 wk scan and blood draw, where they decide if they will test for diabetes. She advised me not to have too much sugar that day, which I actually really appreciate as advice because it means she'd rather I don't have to do the glucose tolerance test. Yay! Decided I really like my midwife now. Grin

McHelenz · 16/05/2019 08:15

That's really good to know guys. 😊. I'm glad they won't be really judgemental.
