Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

Slimming World was recommended by midwife, seems focus is more on good nutrition than dieting, you can eat loads on it. It's mainly a very low fat regime but you can have tonnes of pasta so are never going to feel hungry. They have a pregnancy specific version so it's more about keeping an eye on weight gain and trying to eat healthier, or if you're having treats then rationing that a bit.

Seems good to me anyway, always struggle on diets but I've been attempting this one a few days and it's just cutting out my lazy foods like my morning chocolate breakfast bar, tinned soup, too much mayo and dressings on stuff, and making sure meat is lean, using the low fat cooking spray oil. Fairly simple habits to get in to!

I obviously have no idea how my body is going to respond to gaining more weight in pregnancy or if I will have complications. There isn't a lot I can do about that.

My main motivation is I am very unfit and have knee problems since I put on the last 2 stone. So I'm really worried more weight on is going to cripple me.

@Beeseeinya
Welcome lovely! I’m 13+5 and due 3rd Sept. this is my first too and I’m 39 20st BMI of 45. My first consultant appointment was the first one where my weight was seen as an issue hence the joining SW.

I feel your pain with the piles, I have IBS and struggled for years until I found a combo that works for me. Each day I have 2x laxido from the doctor and additional fibre supplements with them morning and evening as well as a high fiber diet. Since then I’ve had only minor issues which quickly resolved. I’ve upped my fiber a little in recent weeks as everything does slow down which is worrying. If you struggle get your doctor to give you a mild softener like Laxido xxx

@Willacybaby19
We’ve all been there with those down moments, it’s a scary but exciting time. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Exciting for your next scan! We have a price one at 16 weeks as I’m too impatient to go more then 4 weeks lol.

@Beeseeinya
SW wasn’t recommended to me but when they were telling me I need to be careful and what I should and shouldn’t be eating I thought it’s probably easier to join a group and I’ve done SW before They did say this isn’t a time to diet but to eat a nutritious diet will help baby and me. Im at my heaviest and have lost 1lb since becoming pregnant but unfortunately the hospital think I’ve gained 3kilo already due to a discrepancy on the original MW scales and the hospital ones. I’m desperate to do all I can to experience proper labour (mad I know).

My only problem with slimming world is it leads you to cut out good but calorie dense things like avocados, nuts, real dairy products, and smoothies; and replace them with sweetener filled cereal bars and chemical tasting yoghurts.

But most of the rules are good and it does a lot to increase your veg intake if you're not always great at that.

Willacybaby19 · 06/03/2019 20:52

Evening Ladies!!

Hope we're all good!

So we had our 20 week scan today, our baby is extremely camera shy, as soon as the Dr needed to check baby's heart it turned away to face my spine so couldn't get a good look but she said there was no cause for concern, everything is growing nicely and at the right stages, she just wants us back in 2 weeks to have a good look at the heart when baby is a fraction bigger!

Oh.. and we're having a boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All our family are like ooh imagine if you have a little girl... Mwahahah, we're thrilled and we totally guessed boy!

How's everyone doing?x

clairemarie2702 · 07/03/2019 01:20

@Lavellan - I’m with you on the low fat processed stuff. My group leader has said SW won’t recommend or promote any weight loss in pregnancy just healthy eating so I’m going to do my own version.
@willacybaby19 - that’s amazing news, congratulations on your little boy! X

Bexy88 · 12/03/2019 09:19

Hi guys!
Just found this plus-size thread. I've been reading your posts and you've been answering lots of my questions.
I'm 5ft 9 with a BMI of 39.7
I wear size 20 but my jeans/trousers have started to get tight in last couple of weeks and so I seem to be living in leggings atm especially for work.
I think I'm 13w today but have my first scan this afternoon so will know more later. Atm predicted dd is Sept. 17th.
We had been trying for 10 months after coming off the depo injection and I had lost 2 stones in weight with SW but I went through a bad patch with my anxiety at the end of 2018 and ended up putting it all back on. I'm now off my antidepressants (due to pregnancy) and feeling even more anxious so just taking a couple of days at a time atm.
I have my first consultant app next week. What should I expect? I'm a bit nervous about it atm.
TIA
xxx

clairemarie2702 · 12/03/2019 21:04

When did everyone first start feeling movements and what do they feel
Like?

@bexy88 - congratulations! There may be some antidepressants suitable for use in pregnancy if you feel they help?
My first consultant appointment was them telling to to watch what I eat and booking me in for 28week scan. Wasquite informal really.
How was the scan?

LJS8987 · 13/03/2019 20:14

Hi!
So glad I fount this thread!
I'm 6 weeks tomorrow- not sure about bmi I'm 5"10 and a size 22.
This is my third pregnancy- first two sadly ended in mc and was told my weight may have increased the risk- I've seen this in a few places but can't seem to find the evidence that backs it up??
How did your scan go @Bexy88??

It feels like sooo long to wait for my first scan!!

PregoBaker · 13/03/2019 21:56

Hi there ladies!
Just found this thread, wish I'd found you's A LOT sooner ☺️
I'm 29w+1 so just entered 3rd Tri 🙌
I've been on my NHS 'watch list' ( that's what I call it ) and I swear I hear the term BMI one more time I may scream. My bmi was over 39 when I was 9 weeks and tbh they haven't weighed me since. All I know is they've prescribed a low dose of aspirin and and sent me on my way. So I have no clue, (this is my first) if because of a bigger bmi, means there's more complications during birth?
To answer one of the questions, when baby starts moving, to me, it's amazing ! Oh and because I'm a bit chunkier I see my little one move a lot more. (Almost like a vibration from your abdomen) but it feels good knowing they're safe.
Sorry for the long post, hope everyone's well! ❤️

clairemarie2702 · 14/03/2019 18:12

@PregoBaker - good to know, what does it feel like when baby moves at first? This is my first so I’m not sure x

PregoBaker · 14/03/2019 22:57

@clairemarie2702
At first, it was a little bit like a butterfly bouncing off my hips (if that makes any sense) tbh I never felt her move till I was at least 21 weeks and even then it was sporadic, I found lying in bad and just concentrating on the feelings helped a lot. Later on when you start seeing everything move ( and I promise you you will see the little one move) tummy or no tummy (that was one of my biggest fears, that I wouldn't be able to see anything because I was too big), it mesmerising. Hope that helps! Maybe not baby brain is in full effect now!😂
But congrats and hope your both doing well ❤️

clairemarie2702 · 15/03/2019 07:59

@PregoBaker thanks, I’m 15+3 so have a while to wait yet then. Hope you’re both doing well xx

clairemarie2702 · 19/03/2019 08:33

Anyone else feel less pregnant in the 2nd trimester? I’m 16 weeks and most of my pregnancy symptoms have practically gone. Got a private scan at the end of the week so that will hopefully give some reassurance xx

Cecilia23 · 24/03/2019 22:34

Hi everyone would love to be a part of this discussion! I’m 11 + 5 with my second pregnancy (second with a high bmi 😬) and I am 23, had my DS at 21. Very much enjoying pregnancy second time round (already feeling movements), but I’m so sick of being treated like a statistic by docs given that I had a healthy pregnancy and delivery last time (though DS was 10 pounds 🙊 was totally healthy). I remember a meeting with a consultant last time that left me in tears, and would love to not have to go through all that again this time. How is everyone else doing?

Lavellan · 26/03/2019 15:29

I'm 17 weeks now and loving it, but no distinct movement yet and I really can't wait to feel it. Sometimes I feel like there's something but it's vague.

I'm surprised to find that a lot of places seem to only do maternity clothes up to a size 16. And it's places with decent plus size ranges, but nothing for plus & maternity together. Also I went to primark to pick up a shed load of black leggings so I can wear more dresses and less trousers, and they didn't have a single pair of size 18s on a whole double rack. Obviously everyone else is after the same size!

clairemarie2702 · 26/03/2019 21:15

Morrisons do nice thick high waisted leggings up to a 24 I think x

Lavellan · 27/03/2019 10:05

I don't think we have a Morrisons with a clothes section but ta. I'll probs just go back another time and hope they've restocked.

clairemarie2702 · 27/03/2019 20:46

You can buy online I think, the ones I get are £8 x

daphine2004 · 09/04/2019 13:31

Hi all, just come across this thread as I was searching for plus size maternity jeans! I’m 20 weeks with my second and have a high BMI which is a concern as I’m 4 stone heavier than I was last time. I could cry!

Anyway, I’ve bought a pair of asda maternity jeans in 22-24, but they fall down and are big everywhere. Looks like I’ve got a saggy arse they hang so low, but my normal jeans are too snug and I need to undo the button for comfort.

I don’t usually shop in Yours or Simply Be, but noticed they have maternity stuff. Can anyone let me know if they found the jeans true to size?

Thanks.

daphine2004 · 09/04/2019 13:32

PS. I also would prefer not to spend a fortune! Thanks.

dreaminofholidays · 09/04/2019 14:25

Have you tried next? I love their maternity jeggings, so comfy and they don't sag and lose shape like other jeans x

daphine2004 · 09/04/2019 15:16

@dreaminofholidays I rarely go into next as find their sizes odd, but will give it a go.

I usually shop ASOS, John Lewis and Asda. I know it’s a bit random!

daphine2004 · 09/04/2019 15:16

Thanks!

Lavellan · 10/04/2019 08:22

You know what, there are so many positive things about already being fat before you are pregnant. I'm seeing so many people who are small struggling with things I don't care about. "losing their body" hah, I never had a flat stomach. Stretch marks? I don't fear them, they fade. "feel too fat to have sex" lol! I've been fat and having sex for years!

I'm an expert at this by now. I'm finding after a lifetime of diets it's actually a lovely change to enjoy my tummy getting bigger. Smile
