Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

Oh Bumdish I can empathise with those feelings! I worry too about the quality of the scan image and feel the guilt that it is all my fault. I'm 18+2 and having my 20 week scan in a couple of weeks and it's increasingly on my mind.
Did anyone have any issues with their scans, because of their weight?
In slightly better news I managed to find plenty of maternity clothes online, so at least I don't need to worry about walking the streets in rags Wink

Cagliostro · 13/06/2017 10:30

I had to have an internal dating scan because they couldn't see anything with abnormal ultrasound! They did say it's also because my uterus is back to front but obviously weight didn't help.

I also have my 20 week scan soon! Excited but nervous. I'm still not entirely sure if what I've been feeling is baby wriggles or not.

Cagliostro · 13/06/2017 10:34

I feel totally massive at the moment. Not sure if the womb has moved up yet or I've just got fatter again!

Have bought a few bigger summer clothes and one piece of proper maternity clothing, unfortunately I will have to ask my mum to attach poppers on the chest panel - it's a nursing top so I can use it for feeding after, but it keeps slipping and showing off my bra :o

I am so glad I don't feel so sick anymore - but the downside is I am super hungry all the time. I still can't eat much at a time, I feel full quickly, but it's harder to avoid food now

Bumdishcloths · 13/06/2017 19:16

I've had two anomaly scans, one at 20 wks but they couldn't see everything as baby wasn't playing ball and image quality was rubbish, one at 22 wks (still not playing ball, image still a bit crap) and having a third and final attempt on Friday. I've come to the conclusion that this child is camera shy and stubborn! Didn't get a photo at 20 wks which I was unreasonably upset about as I just wanted to be like all my friends and have something to show for my scan but did get one at 22 wks Smile

MrsB12345 · 16/06/2017 21:46

We had our 20 week scan today. Baby didn't want to lie in the right position so we didn't get to find out the sex and need to go back in 2 weeks as they didn't get to see enough of the heart, spine and umbilical chord so we get another scan. Woohoo

Hi all, I'm only 5+4 with number 3 (last one will be almost 7 when this one arrives!)

I'm a size 14-16 but because I'm so short my BMI is 36-37ish. I eat healthily, get my 10k steps in each day etc and am generally in good health but I'm really worried that I might have complications or be considered high risk because of my bmi. Seems ridiculous that I could be classed as clinically or dangerously obese at a size 14. Does anyone have any experience of what I can expect? I had my other babies in my 20s when I was skinny so no idea now.

Bumdishcloths · 17/06/2017 15:04

My BMI is higher than yours I think. Things I have experienced so far:

• been given daily aspirin to take due to risk of thrombosis
• glucose tolerance test booked to test for gestational diabetes at 25 weeks
• scans at 28 and 34 weeks to check foetal growth as measurements by midwife not accurate
• repeated anomaly scans due to poor image quality

Nothing horrific really Smile

Cagliostro · 17/06/2017 17:10

I never had anything about aspirin, I have to have the glucose test at 24 weeks though and they'll keep repeating if it's clear (that's mainly because of my DC2 though)

I'll have a big gap too MrsP - DS will be 8 by the time DC3 arrives! I can't remember a damn thing about having a baby :o

Crunchymum · 23/06/2017 12:28

Hey ladies,

I meant to join this thread a while back.

I am almost 8 weeks with number 3 and this time round I get the joy of being geriatric and obese!!!

I have't had my booking appointment yet and I trying so hard to make sure my BMI isn't over 35 as I don't want to be consultant led (neither of my previous pregnancies have been consultant led!!). Sadly all I seem to be able to face eating at the moment is carbs.

I am currently a good 4st overweight [I am actually 4.5 stone heavier than I was at my booking appointment with DC1] and I am not sure how I got here? Size 8 to size 18 in 5 years is pretty shocking!!

This is an unplanned (unplanned not unwanted!!!!!) pregnancy as well, so I just feel a bit "Meh" about the medical side of it all... I don't want extra appointments! I work, I have kids / school runs etc..

I have white coat syndrome, which I have always been able to manage [BP is always high on first reading but has always gone down] but I suspect this time round it is just going to be high... so if my weight doesn't land me under a consultancy led care then my BP will.

Crunchymum · 23/06/2017 12:31

I had GTT with DC2 (my hospital started to do something called the "glucose challenge" for everyone at their 28w appointment. Basically they check your levels after a Lucozade and if they are slightly raised you get booked in for a full on GTT.

So I expect a GTT this time too, it wasn't too bad!

We found out the gender yesterday......💙💙💙

Eeeek how exciting! Congratulations :o

Welcome Crunchy :)

20 week scan on Tuesday was a bit of a let down. Baby was in a dodgy position so couldn't do half the checks even after I jigged about and walked all over the hospital. Back on Wednesday and hopefully we will find out the sex too!

Cagliostro · 01/07/2017 11:42

I am feeling lots of wriggles though.

BMI consultant on Monday, although not sure how useful it'll be as she won't have all the scan info. However they have the measurements which I think is the main thing. Baby is currently slightly small which is weird as I've never had a small baby! Although tummy is big which I have heard is a sign of GD :(

Crunchymum · 06/07/2017 16:17

Congratulations MrsB. Boys rocks as do girls lol, I have one of each

I think I'm due a bit later than the rest of you ladies? (Early Feb 2018)

I had my booking appt at the weekend and I had a wonderful MW.... wonderful MW's aren't easy to come by at big, urban, teaching hospitals. As expected my stupid BP was sky high but MW was amazing and when she calmed me down and retook it, it was normal.

I didn't get weighed but I'd weighed myself that morning and she took my word, I was completely honest though. BMI is 33 so I've just scraped through being allowed to see community MW's (as opposed to being consultant led). I do have to have one consultant appt due to recurrent miscarriage and I will need a GTT at 28w but all in all I'm over the moon.

Next hurdle is the dating scan on 25/7.

Hope baby plays ball for your next appt Caglio Smile

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 16:22

Thank you crunchy she did! At least we are mostly sure it's a she, still wasn't in the best position but they reckon girl due to not seeing any evidence to suggest otherwise :o but all other checks done and healthy. Starting to feel more real now!

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 16:28

And consultant appt was great, we weren't actually talking about BMI at all really other than to confirm the plan re GTT etc. But I mentioned the dizziness and she has referred me back to cardiology which is great (I was lost in the system and never got the tests I needed)

ColdCottage · 06/07/2017 16:36

I was 14 stone when I fell pregnant. I lost 1/2 stone in the first 3 months and then ended up at 17 stone. I just looked fat until I was 6 months pregnant. I am 5'8".

Trying to lose weight again now to have another baby but seem to be stuck at 13 stone 6lbs.

ColdCottage · 06/07/2017 16:37

P.s my midwife said it was ok to lose some weight whilst pregnant as long as it was done in a healthy way.

rainbowsandsunshine · 10/07/2017 13:25

Hi everyone, can I join?
My bmi is very high at 48 and I am 24 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child (a boy!).
I feel pretty awful atm, but think its because I've overdone it this weekend!

Cagliostro · 15/07/2017 17:35

Welcome! :)

I just saw my first kick. Been feeling wriggles for ages but actually just saw from the outside!

This is getting very real. There's an actual person in there. I have started looking very pregnant the last week or so too - proper bump, surrounded by fat yes but an actual bump shape now.

Cagliostro · 04/08/2017 22:00

How is everyone doing?

Percephone · 04/08/2017 23:48

Weight wise I'm not doing very well Blush
Would be interested to hear from anyone who is successfully maintaining or losing!

MrsB12345 · 05/08/2017 22:46

Hi everyone. I've not been on for ages. We're now at 27 weeks. Baby is moving a lot but not always noticeable on the outside of my tummy. Next scan is at 30 weeks so excited to see our little man again. Had glucose test on Monday and nurser said she'd call within 2 days of test if I had GD and not heard anything so presume I'm ok although have the midwife next Friday so will do winks check with her. So far I've had 3 midwife apps and a different one each time Hmmx
