Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

Actually, since it hasn't been so hot recently the evil chafe is not happening. I'm totally getting some of that silky underwear stuff, just in case summer makes a reappearance.

Percephone I'm eating well, but slightly more than usual to be honest. I'm still swimming 3-4 times a week and walking everywhere, but have gained weight. It's horrible to gain weight, but I don't think now is a good time to try and lose anything.

I'm 26 weeks today and have a glucose test on Wednesday. It seems like yours went well MrsB

Cagliostro · 07/08/2017 11:36

I'm 26 weeks now too and no idea what I weigh! I thought the consultant would be wanting to weigh me (as I was referred to her due to BMI) but everything else has gone swimmingly so far. Baby slightly small but not worryingly so at all. Blood pressure perfect (normally too low). Got a proper bump shape although a very fat bump!

I'm still eating less than what I was last year, I don't feel sick anymore thank goodness and actually I'm hungry loads but I still can't manage to fit much in IYSWIM? So I'm not generally eating as much in one go most of the time. I'm struggling with exercise though as I've had yet another cold and due to having CFS/fibro that has a lasting impact on my energy and pain levels.

Must get my GTT done this week - had to delay it due to lack of the correct lucozade now they've changed the recipe. The hospital were really struggling to get the replacement drink in, it was like some kind of black market situation :o

Hi there
Haven't been on here in ages. Glad to see everyone progressing so well.
I am freaking out a small bit as am 20 weeks now and in the last couple of weeks I have put on almost half a stone. I find this really hard to deal with (worked really hard to lose 4 stone a few years ago). I don't feel like I am eating a monstrous amount compared to normal. I have been referred to the high bmi clinic at the hospital but won't see them again until 28 weeks and the dietitian wasn't there when I was in at 16 weeks. So my question is has anyone been given any guidelines on what we should be trying to do? Stay the same? Gain a stone overall, etc etc. My bmi is 40. I just don't want to be gaining 7 lbs every couple of weeks, I will end up in very dire straits if that is how this goes.
I am thinking of rejoining slimming world as I know they have loads of pregnancy guidance. Just wondered how everyone else is doing.
Thanks

MrsB12345 · 09/08/2017 21:53

@Miami81 I'm 27 weeks and have put on 1stone 8lbs x

OP posts:
WombOfOnesOwn · 10/08/2017 19:37

My BMI is 47, and I gained just two pounds in my entire first pregnancy.

I'm now at 9 weeks with my second, same weight as before (it's been remarkably stable since age 18 or so, and I'm 33 now).

Happy to see everyone here!

AccrualIntentions · 10/08/2017 19:43

Can I join you guys? I'm nearly 25 weeks, BMI about 34. I've got a bump now but it's a big fat squishy bump!

Found out today I failed the glucose tolerance test so have first appointment with the diabetes midwife tomorrow. Really upset even though I was sort of expecting it due to triple whammy of being fat, PCOS and my dad having type 2 diabetes.

Cagliostro · 24/08/2017 18:43

Hi all!

Had a growth scan today. All good, but baby (now confirmed, definitely a girl!) has a big tummy for her size. Not a definitive sign of GD but can be an indicator. I had my GTT the other day so should know soon.

Really trying to eat better and am definitely not as ravenous as I was in previous pregnancies - I feel sick if I finish my plate so I'm pretty certain I'm eating less overall. Going to cut down even more on stuff like fizzy drinks (I was only having them when out, but even that is probably more than I should). Trying to do things like increase oily fish etc. I am not doing well with exercise though, thanks to yet another lingering virus. Trying to walk a bit more but it's really not enough.

I have absolutely no idea how much weight I've put on. I'm surprised they haven't weighed me since my 12 week scan. I'm still in my pre-pregnancy trousers (but I had lost weight before conceiving). I thought they'd be keeping more of an eye on it because I was referred to the consultant because of my BMI?! Weird.

MrsB12345 · 28/08/2017 09:18

Morning everyone. How's things? I've got my first growth scan tomorrow. I think baby will be measuring big. Don't know why. I am loving this part of pregnancy now. Feeling him move is just amazing.💙

JustSaying99 · 28/08/2017 10:40

Hi folks. 34 weeks today. Size 20 pre-pregnancy and have lost 21lbs since falling pregnant. Think it's a mix of eating much healthier, no alcohol and have also been trying to walk at least 5k a day! Actually glad I found this thread as I was so worried when I fell pregnant that my weight was going to be a big issue; literally fell pregnant on first try and never thought that would happen. Have has a great pregnancy so far, no GD, excellent blood pressure, bump is measuring exactly where he should be.... all going well! :) just in case others are early on and think being overweight an pregnant means a difficult/issue filled pregnancy (that's what I thought) just to reassure that it's now always the case!Smile

PrincessaCarrisi · 29/08/2017 08:07

I hope your GTT results came back clear Cagliostro, I was weighed only at booking in and at the 28 week growth scan and like you have been surprised it wasn't more often. I've put on 8kg, which is more than ideal!
JustSaying you have done incredibly well to keep active - you're on the home stretch now!!
Good luck today MrsB! Enjoy seeing baby again on the scan, my not so little wriggler is estimated to be on the 90th centile at 28 weeks Shock

Cagliostro · 29/08/2017 10:18

Hi all :)

Just wow that's brilliant sounds like you're doing really well there! :)

Agree it's totally amazing feeling baby move. I'm sure this one is more wriggly than my other two (the youngest turns 8 tomorrow!!!) but they also say you feel more with subsequent pregnancies anyway due to the womb stretching etc.

I'm not doing well with exercise at all as I'm getting that stitch type pain in my sides quite a lot. That said it's been better than in previous pregnancies (I had it much earlier and worse then) and in terms of the pain/fatigue associated with my conditions (CFS/fibromyalgia) it's actually been better than before pregnancy so I really can't complain!

Soooo blood results, haemoglobin a bit low so have to take iron. And the GTT - well, sugars weren't high enough to diagnose GD but they were just very slightly (0.3!) over the threshold for monitoring. So I'm being referred and MW reckons I'll need to use a testing kit for a couple of weeks. I'll be seeing another consultant/diabetes nurse anyway and they will probably want to do even more scans (fortnightly instead of monthly). Basically gonna camp out at the hospital I think :o

frisbeefreedom · 29/08/2017 12:46

Hi everyone, another newbie here, 22 weeks. I have my first consultant appointment tomorrow, been a bit worried so good to hear some good experiences! GTT not for another month.

Struggling with being in that 'just looking fatter' stage - someone expressed shock this morning when I told them when baby is due, as I'm not showing. I know it's not obvious to anyone other than DH, but struggling not to let the comment get to me (though I know it was entirely innocently meant).

Baby has just started proper kicks though, which is great. Felt the first one externally yesterday, though he must have put his back in to it because I've not felt one as hard since!

JustSaying99 · 30/08/2017 17:29

Thank you @princessa @cagliostro Starting to find it a bit tougher now as back starts to ache, but home stretch as you say! Had growth scan today and very pleased to that bump is bang on 50th percentile and midwife very happy with growth! What are the chances of that changing in last few weeks, could he suddenly have a big growth....really don't fancy a 10lb baby Grin how's everyone else getting on?

Cagliostro · 14/09/2017 07:08

Hate to say it but just my giant (11lb14oz) DS did most of his growing in late pregnancy! Big babies are generally easier to birth though if it helps. :o

Cagliostro · 14/09/2017 07:15

I'm feeling rather deflated. Saw the consultant and she disagreed with what the MW had said about my GTT result - she says that the result was over the threshold and therefore is GD, rather than being just a bit high. She was perfectly lovely about it though.

Getting my testing kit today and trying to figure out how to cut carbs (started a thread on the bootcamp board).

I feel so guilty I let it get to this. I just hope that changing things for the remainder will help.

They said I will likely be induced and I'm terrified, not due to the induction itself as both my others were induced anyway but it's less than 7 weeks away! I am terrified about giving birth again TBH as I am so much less fit than before due to illnesses I developed since DS was born in 2009.

I'm quite intrigued as to whether low carb will affect my weight. I have no idea how much I weigh now (not been weighed since 12 week scan) so I may see if I can find out, I have no scales

Cagliostro · 14/09/2017 07:19

Also feeling a little panicky about DVT because I have a weird pain in my leg and I'm not entirely sure if it's cramp or not - it isn't where I normally get cramp and it's not gone away. I am higher risk due to pregnancy and weight. Plus I get breathlessness/chest pain sometimes anyway due to having POTS so how would I know?! I will see if the pain goes away today once I'm up and about but otherwise I'll see the GP tomorrow as that's what is recommended.

Miami81 · 14/09/2017 20:28

Hi @Cagliostro
I got my GD result yesterday and I am positive too.
So have started my low GI diet today. Focussing on low or good carb, not seeing diabetes nurse until Tuesday so want to try and get into the groove with it before then. I feel awful, but nothing I can do to change it now, just have to get myself sorted soonest.
I am 25+4 so still quite a way to go.
How far in are they saying they will induce?

Miami81 · 14/09/2017 20:30

Sorry just saw your second post about dvt. Hope you are ok.

AccrualIntentions · 14/09/2017 22:27

Cagliostro I was diagnosed with GD at 25 weeks, now nearly 30. I've been doing lower carb rather than what I'd call low carb, and lost 4 kilos quite fast, plus I haven't gained any since then. A few people have commented to me that I look like I've lost weight in my face, collarbones etc so hopefully all my weight is going on the bump.

Cagliostro · 15/09/2017 08:10

I wish I'd had the GTT earlier but can't get the old lucozade for love nor money round here and the hospital took ages to get their supply of the rapilose stuff :( I am worried it's too little too late now :(

Am in a crap mood today because the blood test thing is really hard. I luckily have no problem with needles as I have attempted 3 times this morning and my fingers aren't bleeding! 😡😡😡 Not sure if it's because my blood pressure is too low or something?!

Low carb went quite well yesterday I think (especially breakfast - scrambled egg bacon avocado tomato) but we don't have much food in until later and I am hungry and grumpy (see above) and could totally murder some cereal or toast right now

Cagliostro · 15/09/2017 12:28

I weighed myself. Since booking in appt at 9 weeks (now 32) I have lost 6lb Confused

Cagliostro · 19/09/2017 06:15

Well I'm feeling a bit of a twit. Turns out I misunderstood what the consultant meant about avoiding carbs and she actually meant cut down, which is more along the lines of what the diabetes nurse had said too - halving the pasta rather than not having any, etc. In my defence I am autistic and therefore generally take things literally! Oops.

Getting to grips with the blood testing but I thought my numbers were good, turns out they are a bit low. Doctor was mortified that I had gone so far with it, I had a hypo yesterday and was feeling awful all day and she said at the end of the appt to go and eat something carby for dinner RIGHT NOW before I gave her a heart attack :o so I did.

I'm glad I can do something more balanced now and I'm finding it fascinating to see how different foods affect my body. I feel like I'm learning a lot and hopefully this will be something I can continue after baby arrives.

Now looking at induction at 40 weeks if I can stay diet controlled (38 weeks if I need insulin).

Miami81 · 20/09/2017 13:34

Caglio that's interesting about your levels being too low. It's not easy to get your head around it all is it. I have only been monitoring since yesterday and I too find it fascinating. I had around 2/3 my normal portion of brown pasta with last nights dinner and it seems fine (levels were grand). My consultant appt is next week, but the diabetes nurse will check in with me on Friday in case they want to start the metformin.

Cagliostro · 20/09/2017 13:42

I ended up with another appt today as I had a scan yesterday. Baby is fine, tummy still too big by comparison to her overall size but I did notice that it's dropped 10 centiles so perhaps that indicates things are going well.

I showed the (different) consultant my levels since Monday, when I've been eating a little more carbs (e.g. This morning I added one slice of low carb seed bread to my eggs/avocado etc) and he agreed the levels are really good now. So I feel like I am finding the right balance.

Seriously struggling with fatigue though and had to sit down in Boots for a long time! I don't get why I still feel weird (I did check in case of hypo but I wasn't).

Cagliostro · 20/09/2017 13:43

Nobody's been interested in my food diary though! I'm still keeping it as it's really interesting and at least if I have any dodgy results I can find out why.
