Little - I'll forgive you! Sorry that you had a traumatic day with the 'squidge'. Glad all is well. Just think we are going to be living on tenterhooks for at least the next 18 years because of them!!!!!!!

Holly - I had the same 2 years ago, and I'm really sorry but there isn't anything available - well there wasn't then. The info in all of the medication says 'dont use in pregnancy' HOWEVER!! I did use something that I will check up for you - can't for the life of me remember what is was called ... It wasn't necessarily for hayfever but it relieved the symptoms IYSWIM!

I have to get something for myself for when I get back....sounds like it's starting already....

I just had a peak at another antenatal group - couldn't bear myself to join, it looked too 'mumsy'.

I wonder what happened to others that were here at the beginning?

choudru · 23/05/2007 12:56

Apeainapod - how patronizing of your DS's headteacher! Have they always been so bad at dealing with parental conerns?

Littleoldme - sorry to hear about your trauma. And very glad everything was ok in the end. Put it this way - if you're still chucking then that is definitely a good sign that you're pregnancy is chugging along nicely producing lots of nice vomit hormones. hugs

As for hayfever - I used a product called Nasaleze in last pregnancy. It's herbal or something. It did work but have noticed my hayfever is less severe when I'm pregnant. What you are referring to could also be made worse by the fact that pregnant women get nasal congestion due to expanded thingemies in the nose.

I have been looking at antenatal classes as well. Have details of an NCT one local to me (littleoldme - if you are interested then let me know and I will forward the contact details). It's only 5 couples per course so I'm thinking more likely to be able to ask a million questions.

sparklygothkat · 23/05/2007 16:05

hi everyone, nice to know that some of you have little bumps too Was told today that mine looks like a mini football shoved up my top lol.
I have a checkup tomorrow with my midwife, hoping to hear the heartbeat for the first time

littleoldme · 23/05/2007 19:46

Choudru thanks for NCT tip - I've actually registered for some Saturday classes already. Feeling much calmer now. My mum came up and applied maternal wisdom.

Have a nice night everyone. Sparkly - you'll love it when you hear the heartbeat . Sounds like a gallopping horse.

apeainapod · 24/05/2007 10:26

Hello normal people! ie: those of you who seem to be on the same wavelength for the next few months.

Choudru - I thought that you had a medical term for nasal blah blah until I read it about 10 times and realised it wsa thing- emies.

DH and I had a chat about names last night - and the result was - nothing! None of teh girls names seem to jump out at us and say 'pick me'! With DD she was called something else since I was 11 weeks pg. She was about 30 seconds old and we said 'no way - definitely not', and had to come up with something fast. She really IS the name that we chose for her now - definitely!

Have you all decided where you are going to have the baby? I have suddenyl started to think that maybe at home could be quite an interesting thought...... or am I just mad??

Have a good day x

Pixiefish · 24/05/2007 10:31

Had a high risk triple test result yesterday so am in bits today. Having an amnio Tuesday- absolutely cra@@ing myself- scuse language.

I'm 37 so i spose that in itself is a high risk

apeainapod · 24/05/2007 10:33

oh Pixie!

I'm sure all will be well. Will be thinking of you on Tuesday. xxx

purplepants · 24/05/2007 10:49

morning all - hope you're all enjoying the lovely weather

pixiefish - I can only imagine how you must feel. Do remember though that the triple tests only give a potential indication. That's one of the reasons I never went for one. However, at 40 I should probably have gone for it but just knew I couldn't cope with the worry of a poor result and, unlike you, I'm not brave enough to go for an amnio. Sending positive vibes for Tues

apeainapod - names are a nightmare in our house too . DH can't understand why i don't like any of the ones I liked before.

Hoping for a home birth here but my fab MW has just left her job (doesn't like community work apparently!)so I'm to meet the new one later for a check up & chat. I had a consultants appt yesterday & have to go for an early GTT next week to check for diabetes as I had it last pg I'm really not looking forward to it.

SparklyGothKat - hope you enjoy hearing LO today - heard mine yesterday, it was fab

how's everyone else doing?

Pixiefish · 24/05/2007 11:14

Heard mine last week at mw appt

Petrified of amnio, petrified of results but also petrified of what i would do if...

I have dd to consider.
I have known 2 women who had babies with Edward's syndrome, one was born the day before my dd in the same hospital and the little dot lived for a year, the other little girl didn't live as long. Don't know if I could put our family through something like that but don't know how I could cope with anything else either.

Fingers crossed though eh

littleoldme · 24/05/2007 11:36

Pixie - poor old you. I'm keeping everything crossed for you.

Will be off line for a little while as we are going on hols tomorrow (grin)

sparklygothkat · 24/05/2007 12:34

Hi, back from my 16 weeks check. Baby is happy and healthy with a heartrate of 118-120bpm. According to the heartrate thing is it a boy or girl??

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 13:06

Pixie - fingers crossed for you for Tuesday. Will be thinking of you.

Heard my LO on Tuesday when i had my scan and the BPM was about 159. I've heard that a slower BPM indicates a boy, in which case this could mean that i'm carrying a girl. I hope it's wrong!!!

purplepants · 24/05/2007 15:18

RGPargy - mine LO's heartrate was similar to yours but I'm really hoping it is a girl -I always wanted a big brother so I want DS to be one

MrsJetson · 24/05/2007 15:58

LO's heartrate is 150 and they say this one is a girl - so you could be right that a slower beat means a boy. Sorry RG!!!!

geekInPigtails · 24/05/2007 16:52

I'm another one who's just had their 16-week appointment! Quite relieved actually, it's only been 3 weeks since I last heard the baby's heartbeat, but I haven't started to feel movement yet. I KNOW the books say 16 weeks is too early for a first timer to be feeling anything, but it's still a bit nerve-wracking having no evidence that the baby is still in there (except the gradually growing bump!). Anyway, all is well, heart rate was 146, but from the other thread that doesn't sound like strong evidence either way We're fairly sure we're not going to find out the sex when we go for the 20 week scan, so another 5 and a half months to go to find out!

Does anyone else feel like the weeks are speeding up now? 6 - 12 seemed to really drag, but things seem to be moving quicker now.

pixiefish, so sorry about all your worries, really hope they are all groundless! Just hang on to the statistics - I know that the chance of the amnio causing any problems are tiny.

apeainapod - i'm fairly sure (at the moment!) that i'm going to the midwife-led birth centre at our local big hospital. It's got a reasonably good rep, and if there are any problems you just have to get in a lift to go down to the full-on doctors-and-machines-everywhere ward! Sounds like the best plan since it's my first, though who knows, maybe if I'm feeling fab at 36 weeks and the childbirth classes give me loads of confidence, maybe I'll change my mind and go for a home birth!

littleoldme - glad everything was fine after your scare, hope you have a fab holiday and manage to relax loads! Can't wait for mine, it's 2 and a half weeks away, woohoo!

sparklygothkat · 24/05/2007 22:07

everyone is saying that I am having a boy, because my bump is all front, and looks like a mini football shoved up my top, and when people have looked at my scan they are sure that the litle thing near the leg is a willy The heartrate today was very low, and people are also saying its a boy from that... will find out in 5.5 months I suppose lol

Glimmer · 25/05/2007 15:11

Hi Pixie
triple test are known notoriously to have a high false positive rate (i.e., the test says hi risk wothout reason). If you are worried about amnio, could you consider late nuchal (?) or quadruple test? I understand your worries, especially knowing two babies with Edwards (what are the changes of that 1:200 000 or so?). Chances are you will be fine and worry needlessly. Good luck and a lot of strength!

Pixiefish · 25/05/2007 16:31

Thnaks Glimmer. What ar ethe chances of one of the babies with Edwards being born in the same hospital as I had my dd the day before I had my dd eh! You may remmeber him- baby Luke- his mum went to the High Court in London for doctor's to resucitate him as they said they wouldn't. little dot died though.

The other baby's mum used to go to a playgroup that I went to.

Makes me think it could be something to do with where we live- we have a nuclear power station here- pah- I'm being stupid now.

Fingerbobs · 27/05/2007 15:14

(I'm Fingernails, by the way, but have rashly changed my name to Fingerbobs, since I'm feeling less like nails scraping down a blackboard now I'm 14 wks)
Just saying hello, really and everything crossed for Pixie, I'm so sorry you have this awful anxiety.
My 'bump' seems also largely to be cakes and cheese, hmm where is that choc fudge ice-cream... I know I'll regret it later but it is so good....

jetgirl · 27/05/2007 20:43

Hi All,
Now I have reached 16 weeks I am much less superstitious about letting people know about our latest baby and thought I would join you all. This is my second pregnancy and I have started to show much earlier - I think it's food, but my husband very sweetly says it's bump and for once I will take his word for it! Haven't read the whole thread so don't know all the due dates, mine is due on November 11th, but as my first was 11 days late I won't be holding my breath! Take care all xx

RGPargy · 27/05/2007 20:49

hi Jetgirl!! Congrats to you!

MrsJetson · 28/05/2007 10:48

Hi Jetgirl - welcome and congrats.

Who fancies doing a roll call again?

I'll start......

MrsJ - 7 Nov. DS1 4, DS2 3 and DD 21m. Gloucs.

BTW - I am a regular on this thread but changed my name because an organisation traced me through a comment I made about them on here!!

Pixie - fingers - and everything else - crossed for you that everything is OK. xx

Pixiefish · 29/05/2007 08:30

Thanks MrsJetson and Fingerbobs. Off shortly- may not get back on for a few days as the mw has told me complete rest for 2/3 days so dh is in charge of dd for a while

MrsJetson · 29/05/2007 10:29

Pixie - do exactly as MW says. Let DH do EVERYTHING for you and DD. Enjoy it while you can - plus you'll know that you're doing the right thing for the baby. Hoping all goes well for you xx
