Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

does anyone feel normal again? I can't help by worry as I feel ok. Won't be seeing the midwife for another 3 weeks, I haven't gain any weight but have a tummy. I might get one of those doppler things, just to reassure myself. Am still quite tired though

RGPargy · 01/05/2007 16:52

SGC, yes i am feeling almost normal again now! Hooray!!

If it wasn't for my massive and sore boobs, i'd never think i was pg!

(10 weeks)

Pheebe · 01/05/2007 19:46

Yep, me too, almost back to normal although knackered and brain dead most of the time, but no more sickness yay and my jeans don't fit anymore, double yay.

Given up on the doppler for now, all I can hear is me so I think placenta is gettin in the way. Can hear lots of activity though and darn sure I can feel the occasional wriggle!!!

RGPargy · 01/05/2007 21:49

do you think it's worth hiring a doppler? not sure it's worth it at 10 weeks really is it?

SparklyGothKat · 01/05/2007 23:19

Not sure tbh. I am nearly 13 weeks, and know that some people on this thread have brought or hired one. I just am a worry head because I have had two miscarriages

Pheebe · 02/05/2007 07:46

To be honest RG is can be a bit of a mixed blessing. From experience its easiest to find bub before your uterus pops up out of your pelvis (12-14 weeks) and later on when bub is much bigger (18-20 weeks on) when you'll probably be feeling movements anyway. In between it can be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack so you have to be prepared for that and not panic if you can't find it. Like I said I've given up on mine for the mo (not the easiest thing to do). Maybe just make a weekly appointment with mw and have her try and listen for you

FCH · 02/05/2007 10:09

I have been feeling really pretty normal since about 8 weeks when my boobs stopped feeling so sore so I was really nervous that the scan would be bad news. I was so relieved that it was normal. I am now just trying to relax until I start feeling it move. I am 13+6 so I am hoping I might start to feel it by the end of the month. When did you all start to feel your first ones?

Glimmer · 02/05/2007 11:39

Good morning everybody. May I join in? I am 12+1 today and have been mainly hanging out the 'pregnancy after mc' thread. I had a missed misscarriage with several complications (very traumatic) last year and decided not to join in before my 12 week scan, which I had yesterday.
Things look good. Definitely, a fetus there, two arms, to legs, and it showed off my touching his/her nose. I haven't told anybody yet (besides DH) or seen a doctor or midwife
(but am booked in for next week). The latter, because they have been absolutely incompetent/inexperienced with the mmc and complications, so there was really no point.
Sickness is definitely going down and boobs don't hurt nearly as much anymore, which was very worrying last week, but is delightful now.

LucyK1978 · 02/05/2007 12:14

Hi Glimmer - congratulations on your 12 week scan, fantastic news to hear all was well after your previous difficulties.

I am 11+5 and have got my 12 week scan tomorrow - can't wait!!!! We had a scan at 8 weeks and saw the heartbeat and lots of vague grey-ness, but hopefully this one will be more detailed. Then we are going for a nuchal scan next week - has anyone else had this done, how much different is it from the normal 12 week scan?

My boobs have also started to feel less tender (hoorah!) although have already grown a lot (they weren't small to begin with!) so think new bras will be needed soon!
And I have found the best thing to eat when feeling pukey MS is melon fruit, can't get enough of it!!

Pheebe · 02/05/2007 12:32

Glimmer thats great news, welcome aboard .

Lucy, I can't recommend the nf scan enough, had mine a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely fantastic. I got to watch bub for nearly half and hour, sticking its tongue out and sucking its thumb and wriggling about to get comfy. Got some great pics too. Totally different to the 2 minute NHS dating scan.

Pheebe · 02/05/2007 12:34

Glimmer, I just realised where I recognised your name from. So glad you made it over here and I do hope my posting re conservative management of mmc didn't upset you. It's just something I feel very strongly about.

LucyK1978 · 02/05/2007 12:37

Pheebe - Thanks for the reassuarance. We are having to pay for the nuchal scan, which I really don't mind doing as long as it is worth getting done (if that makes sense?). We are in Germany, so not sure what the 'standard' 12 week scan will be here, presume like the NHS dating scan. But the more scans the better!!

Very excited about tomorrow though.... we get to see the bean!!! (Although maybe we will need to think of a new nickname if it doesn't look like a bean any more!)

GermanGal · 02/05/2007 13:59

Hi LucyK1978, I had the nuchal scan (in Germany) last week, and I will have another one (errrmm) this Saturday My "first" one was exactly like a normal (tummy) scan, where the doctor just measured the neck fold and then combined the result with a few blood tests.... you then get a percentage of the likelihood of something being wrong with the baby. The whole thing lasted 15-20 minutes (he did the blood test 2 days beforehand). I now found out about a much different test though and I will do that on Saturday, which is think is the one Pheebe had. I have no idea if I will get a different result (probably not), but I just cannot resist getting the "proper" pictures.... also I want to be on the safe side.
Anyway, enjoy watching the "bean" - which is definitely not a bean anymore

choudru · 02/05/2007 14:10

Hello yummy mummies,

Welcome to all the newbies - the more the merrier!

Thanks for starting a new rollcall Pheebe. Will add myself in a sec.

Had my scan yesterday - was amazing to see the little munchkin on the screen. Was kind of relieved that there was only one. My mum had been saying gmy extra sickness might have been because of twins

Quite like the idea of twins in theory but would have cost a fortune in childcare once I get back to work.

Anyway they told me I am 2 days more advanced than I thought - a WHOLE 2 days of pregnancy less to endure

Sickness is milder but still hanging on. Not puked for 2 days though

aikigypsy - your life sounds like the plot of a soap!

Glimmer · 02/05/2007 14:43

Thanks for your kind welcome! My scan was a nuchal as well. It took more then 2min, but less than 30min.

Pheebe, thank you very much for your comment on the other thread. I very much appreciated it. I think the best thing about MN is that everybody shares their experience and then you can make up your mind yourself. I'd be be very happy to discuss why I woudn't opt for surgery again, but this deosn't seem to be thr right place.

It's me, the harbinger of doom. I'm now at 12 +3 (which was confirmed by the scan) however, the nucal measurements were in the high risk range (did I mention that I'm a bit of an old maid? -38). Anyway, I cried my heart out for most of monday night and yesterday morning. Today (this evening sometime between 5 and 10) I get the results of the blood test that gives a better indication than the scan alone. We're in a realy horrible place but I'm looking forward to a better indication. All this does highlight my only issue with the NF scan -it deals in probability rather than certainty.

On the positive side, apart from outrageously sore boobs (which my girls seem to somehow tweak everytime they're within arms reach of me), I feel relatively human again.

Pheebe · 02/05/2007 17:39

I think that deserves big hugs {{{{{{{{easywriter}}}}}}}}}}}}

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. Fingers (and everything else crossed the blood test give you a more positive result. I have heard of bubs with large nf measurements who have turned out perfectly healthy so don't give up hope yet.

My blood test result is in the post and should arrive tomorow. they wouldn't tell me over the phone, don't know if thats good or bad

Keep us posted, we're all here for you

easywriter · 02/05/2007 18:19

Thank you so much Pheebe. Don't worry about your bloods as I think that the blood test only improves the quality of the result so if you got a good result from the scan alone then there's nothing to fear.

CRazily (and no doubt making me sound like a total fraud) I am in another place now... a very, very, very, very happy one as Mr Consultant just range and said the bloods have nudged me firmly into the non-high risk range. (Don't ask me how it works) but if you know I'd be happy to listen. I've gone from 1:650 with a scan that picks up 7 out of 10 cases to 1:1778 in the scan and the blood test which together pick up 9 out of 10 cases. Anyone translate how this miracle has happened?

Actually, I'm not sure I care. (Probable)healthy baby = happy easy

nykate · 02/05/2007 18:55

That's great news, easywriter! What a relief

I have a scan next week, which my mw said was a nuchal. I haven't had a dating scan or anything else...do they do both at the same scan sometimes? I'll be 12+4 when I go. Just want to know what to expect as I'm getting a bit nervous. This pg was very unexpected and I'm REALLY ready to find out what's going on in there!

Pheebe · 02/05/2007 19:16

Easy writer thats absolutely fantastic well done! so so pleased for you

Glimmer · 02/05/2007 19:19

Okay. I looked into this a bit.
The scan alone is more reliable (better detection rate of 70%) and has less false positives (i.e. when the result sais you are high risk, although you are not) than the bloods alone. However, if you add the scan and the blood results you can be even more certain
(detection rate of 90%).
I am confused about your post, easyryder, 1:650
is actually considered low-risk (0.15%, i.e.
around a tenth of a percent), but 1:1778 makes you even more low risk. I think this are is phantastic result. I had only the scan so far and am still waiting for the adjustment with the bloods, but if I end up with 1:1778 I would be very, very happy. The official cutoff for high-risk is 1:250 or more which is a risk of considerbly less than 1%.
Nykate - the nuchal scan is a normal dating scan but they measure the thickness of the nuchal fold (which is some fluid in the neck area of the baby) on the screen. I had to pay for mine privately because it is not offered on the NHS here, but whether you get it or not should be optional. That is, if you rather don't know the likelihood and would keep the fetus anyway, you have the option to opt out.

Pheebe · 02/05/2007 19:20

Nykate, whereabouts are you? US? not that it matters that much, the nf scan is exactly the same procedureas a dating scan, they use a probe on your tummy to look at bub, totally non-invasive and painless. The nf scan takes a bit longer than a standard dating scan as they are trying to see a little fold of fluid-filled skin at the back of the neck so there's likely to be lots of rubbing and poking, uncomfortable but not painful. The upside is, it gives you loads it time to look at bub and all its bits. Here they repeat the measurements 2 or 3 times so make sure they've got it right.

Woudl happily go and have mine done all over again
