slight change from the one i had planned but figured we'll only truly be hard-boiled once we're overdue!

They don´t really ´do´ toast here. was telling dh very jealously about you all having tea and toast here.. told him he´ll have to go home and get our kettle and toaster and make me some!

Most people aren´t even very sure what our kettle is when they first see it... "what´s that?" "but what´s it for?" no one so far has even managed to come up with a spanish word for it for me so we just call it ´calentador de agua´ which just means ´water heater´! Or we have to say kettle which sounds weird stuck in the middle of an otherwise spanish sentence Claricebean - maybe you know what it should be called??

Right, back to the cleaning [waaah]

weeonion · 03/03/2007 09:50

runny - that is all great news. pleased for you!
maveta - when i was small kettle was my fav word so - i had to call the family cat that.
friends wee girl has now suggested that is what this baby should be called!

Eddas - re bra measuring - I have been fitted by Contessa before and found them very helpful

Hiya, Runny, fab news that all is well, and you are now on ML. I am dreading leaving as I know I am going to get emotional.

Octo, glad you too slept well.

Maveta, frozen fruit sounds lovely.

I didn't get a chance to eat anything during labour as my contractions were so close together (we think due to placenta coming away and irritating uterus - but that's another story). Did sip lucozade though with a straw. Sure I had tea and toast once B had arrived but can't remember!!

Off to my parents now and really looking forward to it. They are just back from their 5 week trip to New Zealand.

If I don't get to come on until Sunday pm when back home, hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

BTW, Mammyjo are you ok?

Lots of love

muminabigtumi · 03/03/2007 10:21

Runny - fab re Mat leave and I am sure you must feel really reassured after talking to your bosses wife. Sorry to hear it is raining though!

Maveta - I cannot tell you how jelous I am of the sunshine and roof terrace! Enjoy hun!

SOSPL and Octopussy - hurray for sleep! I did ok last night as well but did have a "cramp" incident. I have been able to ward them off with foot swirling up till now but this one was hideous - I was dancing round the bedroom at 3 am and my leg is still sore now!

Well Phil and James have left me home alone for the day - just going to read the paper and listen to some music and then I'm going to do some cleaning. I actually find it theraputic when I am on my own and have the time to do it properly - may have a little siesta this afternoon - no great plans!

My Mum is just back from visitng relies up in Scotland and brought me back some Tablet and Lee's MAcaroon bars...have just scoffed entire Macaroon bar and have a severe sugar rush!!!!
She also brought me a Haggis so will have that for tea tomorrow - YUM!

Weeonion - lmao at "Baby Kettle" lol....hey if Gwyneth can call hers Apple then why not?

re food in labour - one of my biggest regrets was listening to midwife who told me to eat a Banana before I started pushing top give me energy....the bloody thing gave me indigestion and was repeating on me the whole time....eugh. Also remember Phil being mighty put out as my Mum ate most of the goodies I had packed for him in the labour bag, I think I packed Juice cartons, cereal bars and fruit. Our hospital too had a day room though that my birth partners could nip off for a snooze and tea and toast or cereal if it all got a bit much! lol

Heya 123 - Hi! Welcome - how far on are you? Where are you from etc!?

x

maveta · 03/03/2007 11:14

ok, think I will mostly have juice and maybe some glucose tablets and a couple of cereals bars just in case then. Bananas give me the most awful indigestion, almost from the first bite, it´s becoming quite an aversion.

Weeonion LOL - my friend´s little boy LOVED the Singing Kettle and when I hear the word I have this image of him in his highchair at about 2 years old crying for them to put it on ´Tetuuuuuuuulll´´Tetuuuuuul´ Aaaaawwwwww.

1becomes3 · 03/03/2007 11:34

Morning all, I have been having a fantastic morning so far, DH took DD to work with him this morning so I got to stay in bed till 10am
Then rather than getting up and doing cleaning I had a bath!
Just made my self a massive cup of tea and thought I would see how everyone is doing.

Any news from mammyjo?

Also I have decided to go bra-less today just to see if the hot itching doesn't come back.

maveta · 03/03/2007 11:57

morning ib3. Well after various interruptions involving occasional mumsnet and one particularly long blethery phonecall I have finally finished my cleaning. Now off for a shower and try and make myself presentable for the day.

muminabigtumi · 03/03/2007 13:06

Well thats the bathroom gutted....time for the hall and living room!

don't know where i got this energy from today...

Pesha · 03/03/2007 13:06

Hi all. Dp took laptop away thurs and only just brought it back! Have caught up til 10 o'clock yesterday morning but read er someones post (sorry) about getting things out loft and hospital bag and has reminded me i really need to get on. Dont know why but keep expecting this one to be early, prob wont be but want to get everything sorted asap just in case.

Dd had her ballet show last night in proper theatre. She was only in one dance near the beginning and then the finale so we had to sit through 3 hours of dance for 5 mins of dd, dp was not happy, kept referring to the interval as 'half time' and checkingthe programme after every dance to see how many left!! She was ever so good, was one of the dwarfs in a snow white thing and was def one of the best in her group and not phased at all by the packed auditorium. It was in a proper theatre and there were hundreds of people there. I was fighting back the tears though from the moment i sat down, was all nervous for her and excited and protective and just emotionally overwhelmed!! I blame the hormones completely as im not a crying sort of person! Calmed down once she'd finished her bit though. I would post a pic but we were banned from taking any so have to buy a dvd of the whole thing for nearly 20 quid! Bad enough we had to pay £12 per person for tickets in the first place. Was worth it though and dp was glad to be there to see her bit really. Unfortunately though she is now very emotional today as we didnt get home til nearly 11 and she's used to going to bed at half 6.

Bad news is i have to take her to meet her real dad tomorrow for first time in nearly 3 years since he buggered off as he turned up with wife and new baby couple weeks ago wanting to see her and i dont think i can really stop him so figure if i say yes i can make sure its on my terms. Just hope he's grown up and sorted himself out now. Will explain more another time, cant really be bothered to think about it all at mo. And told him i had a load ofthings i wanted to talk asbout it if we going to do this such as how he refers to dp calls maia calls him daddy and dont want xp undermining that cos only person he'll hurt is maia. And what rules we have and loads of other stuff i cant think of now! Anywayhe wants me to put it in writing which is a good idea but I not got round to it yet and we meant to be meeting tomorrow. I just dont need this at the moment. He was a pain in the arse last time i was pg too although he does seem abit better this time in that i can talk to him without him completely going off on one. My head feels all stressy and tense and tired now

Sorry have waffled on loads and not said anything about anyone else and now got myself in really bad mood and dont want to do anything!

Oh ellie will email you now!

muminabigtumi · 03/03/2007 13:07

oooh yeah forgot about mammyjo's waters thing...Hope she is ok!

muminabigtumi · 03/03/2007 13:11

Oooh Pesha petal what a lot of worry for you.

Sounds like a good plan to get some ground rules sorted out if you can. I really sympathise with you.My brother in law found out that his wife (not yet divorced but she is with new partner) is pregnant again and due in June. He is all worried that Lottie will get pushed out and the unfortunate thing is that the lines of communication are firmly closed on their side so he has very little say in what goes on really - basically he gets Lottie when she tells him. It's awful...so if you can try and keep it amicable or civil it will be for the best I'm sure. As long as you both have Maia's interests at heart I am sure it wil be fine - if a bit tricky.

Right must get on before I lose the motivation!

Just adding to the worst baby items bought, also on mylist would be a:

£35 gro bag, baby absolutely detested it and would not tolerate one bit.

Avent Breast pump - never got to grips with this and also a total waste.

Nipple cream - seemed to make everything worse. Will try this "lansinoh" one this time as per you guys!

Disposable pants - what a joke.

Official bottle warmer when cup of hot water just as good, then micro when older.

The nappy bin was a yellow sangenic one for putting used, disposable ones in, could never really disguise the smell - lovely!

Best and could not have lived without:

Steam steriliser and stacks of bottles.
Good bottle brush.

Good pram, the travel system type that reclines. Sun shade.

Infacol.

Baby bath.

Red and white wine in bucketloads.

DISPOSABLE NAPPIES!!!

Also on the snacks front - I hate being really hungry and considering i was in labour for nearly 48 hours in total last time, with one meal that was puked as soon as the pethidine wore off I was STARVING!!!!by the end. To make things worse I then got to the ward just after tea-time so of course NO FOOD AT ALL and nothing to drink apart from the scabby luke warm water they give you in small plastic cups.

This time i am going to take a whole bag of food anyone get any ideas?? Am playing with the idea of freezing sandwiches and taking them so that at least by the time they have defrosted they will still be kind of edible?
Anyone else? Don't think I can stand surviving on snack bars/fruit/crisps and will feel a bit weird if hubby comes in with a giant takeaway or pizze, come to think of it I don't think they are allowed in hospital anyway????

opinionsrus · 03/03/2007 14:11

Oh and of course this time i am going to take a million laxatives the MINUTE baby pops as last time I have never been in so much pain with constipation that was almost as bad as the birth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring on the fybogel and senokot.

muminabigtumi · 03/03/2007 14:12

or you could put the sarnies in a cool bag?? they should last longer then?

Opinions - Agree with the wine in bucket loads

maybe take some snack size cereal boxes in and I'm sure the hospital could rustle up some milk from somewhere in case you were starving??

God I must be nesting - turned the living room upside down....Phil just text saying I hope you have your feet up - lmaooO!!
x

opinionsrus · 03/03/2007 14:24

My DP is nesting even more than me which is a bit worrying.

So far the loft and garage has been cleaned out...he won't stop cleaning and ironing and planning.????

muminabigtumi · 03/03/2007 14:46

God - you are so lucky - mine is at football.......

mammyjo · 03/03/2007 15:20

Afternoon ladies! Still here! Spoke to midwife this morning as I have now had a show too. Freaked me a bit this morning when I got up to be honest. Never had that with ds, just lots of waters then contractions started. Anyway, spoke to the midwife who said that on a second baby you could actually get quite a few shows over a number of weeks before going into labour so not necessarily meaning anything is going to happen imminently. Having said that she wants to speak to me later to check what is happening. No more leaking today so dont know what to think really. Partly I would love to think things are starting and I could get it over and done with soon, but partly very bloody apprehensive!! Has made me realise I need to get more organised too!

MIABT, was it you who had the macaroon bar. Very of that! I have family in Scotland and my parents went there recently and brought me some back along with some Edinburgh rock. Delicious!

doginsantasgrotto · 03/03/2007 15:34

Hi everyone
Goodness you lot can chat! Only one more week until I finish work and then hopefully I will be able to come on here more.
Beautiful day here too and so far this weekend we have put up the pram (2nd hand Bugaboo but very good condition); tried out the sling-thing using a cuddly toy bought for LO (in place of baby!); packed hospital bags x 3! Feeling v pleased with ourselves. Just the car seat to go which I think is going to be tricky!
Am sorry that MS has come back for some and for anyone else not feeling brilliant.
Am sorry I can't mention anyone else personally but am just unable to recall after reading everyone's posts.
thanks to the 2nd+ timers with their best and worst buys list - very useful.
Where do you buy washable wipes btw?
Also, is anyone else washing all their newborn clothing before putting it on baby or is this not necessary?!
Love to all and have good weekends.

YvieE · 03/03/2007 16:38

Hi - hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.
Have to ditto DISG, best\worst buys have had me crossing some items of my list.
DISG - I've been washing new clothes ready for the baby - I'm sure i read this tip one of our older threads.

Katy44 · 03/03/2007 17:37

Hi everyone,
mammyjo, hope you're OK. Would be very exciting if this is our first April baby!!
We've had a really busy weekend, had my glucose test today, was tidying the house until late last night as we had people coming round today, and now they've gone and we can sit on the sofas I can finally relax! The laptop was packed away in the name of tidiness - think this might be the longest I've been without MN!

Katy44 · 03/03/2007 17:45

I've been tidying up the stats thread .
(I'm either nesting or have been without MN too long)
Have we heard from CornflakeKid recently (or is she a name changer??)
There are a lot of people on that thread that I don't recognise!

Ellieump · 03/03/2007 17:55
