slight change from the one i had planned but figured we'll only truly be hard-boiled once we're overdue!

AngeG - Ditto re Mothercare from me

AngeG · 02/03/2007 22:05

I agree MIABT - Special care told me to keep a photo of Jake with me when expressing because it would help.

I am also hoping for skin to skin this time and to start breastfeeding as soon as possible. I only managed 6wks last time and most of that was EBM via nasal gastric tube. I only actually breastfed 'properly' for 2 weeks.

AngeG · 02/03/2007 22:05

Thanks for another vote for Mothercare MIABT

Eddas · 02/03/2007 22:07

I think i need new bras but need to get measured, where should i go?

I went to m&s and the young girl who measured me did it all and said right well that makes you a 36B. Ok well that's the size i'm wearing and it clearly doesn't fit(bulges evrywhere!!!) So i have very little confidence in m&s.

Also is it usual to be measured with your bra on? I would have thought that obviously they'll come up with the same size you've already got on, which is what happened in m&s.

AngeG · 02/03/2007 22:10

Eddas I've only ever been to M & S and they always measure with bra on and never get it right. Always measure me a C cup bring me one and it doesn't fit Mothercare
measure haven't tried there yet but will after the recommendations on here.

AngeG · 02/03/2007 22:12

Also M & S lady told me they measure with existing bra on to save your dignity...so you could ask for without. Although she also said if they were saggy they wouldn't measure right without a bra to lift them up

Eddas · 02/03/2007 22:19

I can see why they measure with it on but surely they'd get a more acurate result if they said take your bra off and leave your t-shirt on, or proivde a vest or something? It baffled me that they would think they'd get an answer of anything but what you are already wearing.

I have only been measured that one time but has filled me with such confidence that i won't be going there again. Only got 4 weeks til my due date so may try to hold out as i did come away that time with bras that fitted, in a 38D, not the suggested 36B so no bulges just not great bras!!!!

eca · 02/03/2007 22:27

have to say the assistants in John Lewis were amazing. They really were helpful and knew what they were talking about and came and checked up on me etc etc. They said you'd need extra cup size for when your milk comes in (suggested having enough room for your fist in the cup would be about right. And they said the rib measurements would probably go down a bit afterwards too, so to buy one that is on the very last hook now so that you can take it in later. The only thing was they only had one style. Blooming Marvellous had the most lovely Elle McPhearson ones, but only go up to a E cup so no good for me. But were lovely and feminine and I would be getting them if i could!! (although were a bit pricey!)

WestCountryLass · 02/03/2007 22:29

I always thought the same about measuring with your bra on

Another one not get to hold prem baby and feed but DD was term and latched on like a leach as soon as she was born, she was literally placed on my chest, scrabbled around and sorted herself out It was amazing to see "how it should have been", nature at its best

hotlipsmummy · 02/03/2007 22:49

Evening ladies. at bra talk - I've had the pleasure (??) of shopping at Rigby and Peller once and they don't measure at all - they sort of feel you and work out the size you should be with trying a few styles on. Nearly everyone who goes there ends up coming out at least 1 if not 2 sizes smaller round the back and several cup sizes bigger. Apparently us ladies have a tendancy to try to hold them up with the shoulder straps rather than supporting from underneath. Anyway I went in a 36d and came out a 34g!!! Was more comfortable though... Not been there for maternity bras so dunno what its like for that.

DH is also now away for the weekend playing golf with his mates. i HATE it, get very insecure being so fat and pregnant (with grounds as he was "naughty" when i was 35 weeks pg with DS on a stag do, B*ard. Did tell me though - the one thing he's not is a liar). So am trying very hard to lose myself in the tv! DH did take today off work though to spend some time with me and boy wonder and we have had a lovely day just hanging out, in the park etc. My mum is coming tomorrow for the weekend to help me out as well - much as I love my son he's not the greatest company in the world for an entire weekend!

Umm been thinking abut my best/worst buys (or borrows!)...

Best:
Totally agree re Lansinoh, was the only thing that actually helped my chapped and bleeding nips! And to give first timers some faith I ended up feeding ds for 9 months.
Grobags from 4 ish months
monitor - still use it
playnest from 4 ish months

Worst - more difficult... glad we didn't buy a moses basket or baby bath as both times we have borrowed them for the first few weeks (and are again this time). Bit of a waste of money new for such a short time. DS was 6lbs 7 and it took a while for bf to get going so he didn't get into 0-3 clothes until 3 months and so on through the various sizes. On the whole he got some good wear from his clothes but some gifts were the wrong season (summer stuff) by the time he was able to wear it (late autumn). I wish I had been organised enough to take the outfits back to the shops and swapped them for smaller sizes, esp as some of it was gorgeous stuff from The Little White Co etc.

Phew - long message, best head off to bed as no DH to bring me a cup of tea in bed or get DS's milk tomorrow morning

Night all

octopussyintummy · 02/03/2007 23:11

I don't like M&S maternity bras either - never tried Mothercare - think emma jane ones are best - and get measured at Blooming Marv in Bath - really good and also check the fit on you and go up/down sizes to get best fit and room for growth.

Looked at nipple cream today but they onlyhad boots own or avent - think Lansinoh seems to be the one to get or doesn't it matter too much?

DH not mentioned car seat for a few hours - phew!

Have my breastfeeding workshop all afternoon tomorrow - hoping there will be other mums their without their hubbies/partners so don;t feel like a complete lemon! Not really sure what to expect - hoping it will be really thorough and informative ... its 2 1/2 hours long - so am mildly baffled as to what we'll be doing Please please no groupwork or writing on A3 sheets of paper! Will take a drink and snacks along!

Nappy bin is only useful for cloth nappies - they serve no other purpose!

octopussyintummy · 02/03/2007 23:11

I haven't bought any newborn clothes at all!

octopussyintummy · 02/03/2007 23:13

and don't mean to go on about it - but my braxton hicks do really hurt!

heya123 · 02/03/2007 23:17

hey just a quick comment to say that yes lansinoh is the best nipple cream to use it was the only thing to heal my cracked nipples and allow me to carry on breast feeding my son, also it has no taste and is totally safe so it doesnt need to be washed off before babys next feed!

heya123 · 02/03/2007 23:19

hey octopussyintummy sorry if u think im being ignorant (im not!) but have only just entered this thread, how far along are you??

octopussyintummy · 02/03/2007 23:22

Collectively due in April - I personally am 34 weeks - if its about the braxton hicks - I know they shouldn't be so painful but do have to breathe through them - only get a couple a day so not too worried

octopussyintummy · 02/03/2007 23:23

OMG forgot to say that I slept all night after my flower waters - off to take todays

Night night

heya123 · 02/03/2007 23:26

night night

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 03/03/2007 08:18

Morning all, had a FAB nights sleep! Slept from 10.30 until 7.30 with 1 wee stop only, and no wees for B!

The sun is shining as well, so all in all feeling pretty good!

Wonder how long it will last!?

How is everyone?

weeonion · 03/03/2007 08:26

morning sopl - glad you got a good nights sleep - when the sun is shining and you feel rested - the day seems better!

just had a sken at the march thread - oh lordy - there is a quite a few of them posting baby pics........

maveta · 03/03/2007 08:51

Morning early birds! Had a great nights sleep too and it´s a beautiful day here so going to strike while the iron´s hot, get my cleaning done and then maybe sit on the roof terrace in the sun for a while. Have all kinds of great plans for that space this summer, we have a couple of old mattresses we´re going to drag out and cover in blankets and cushions and want to buy one of those giant white umbrellas as a sunshade.

Aaah, bet you all imagine the romantic image I have in my head of me reclining on the mattresses with my beautiful (peaceful) newborn beside me. HA. HA. HA. Let me have my dreams, girls, please

Woke up thinking about what to put in my hospital bag - what snacks do they advise? All the lists just put ´snacks´ but like what??

Bought two huge bags of frozen fruit at the weekend and sitting here sipping an orange juice with crushed frozen cranberries in it. mmmmmmm...

weeonion · 03/03/2007 09:12

ok maveta - make me with your frozen fruit smoothie, sun terrace and warmth talk!!

snacks - our hospital allows us to have them but others in glasgow dont. no food / snacks once labour is established even tho people sneak them in! i have packed somebags of dried fruits - pineapple, cranberries etc, some ryvita and rice cakes. the midwife unit gives us toast and cereals in the open lounge area apparently!

runnyhabbit · 03/03/2007 09:16

so much to catch up on

I am now on ML Got quite emotional in work yesterday - boss gave me a HUGE bouquet of flowers and a cuddly toy for baby. His wife rung up to wish me well, and told me that although he might not show it very well, my boss actually thinks a huge amount of me, and will really miss me . He also said that once the baby is here, and I feel up to it, he will take us for a night out to celebrate (we didn't have a Christmas party)

Had pre-birth appt with mw last night and it went really really well. All systems go for a homebirth - yay! And dh is more reassured. Measuring fine for dates, and mw said I'm looking really well Babys head is very low down, presenting 3/5? She did mention that it might be an idea to prepare things now

Took ds to the docs on Thursday and he has a chest/viral infection so have got antibiotics for him. Although he woke up 5 times last night but dh saw to him. Think he must've had a bad tummy because he's done the smelliest, biggest poo this morning, and now seems very happy

sorry I haven't replied to everyone, but I'm still on a high from yesterday...

hope everyone has a lovely weekend (nice sunny day here)

take care
xxxx

runnyhabbit · 03/03/2007 09:16

bugger, its started to rain

octopussyintummy · 03/03/2007 09:26

Morning everyone - think I slept all night - lots of dreaming.

Runny - ML wwwooooohhhhhooooooooooo!

Maveta - I didn't eat anything last time in case needed a section - dh sat there munching through crisps etc! I am planning to take some apple juice cartons - not sure about food yet. They always have toast to hand!

Friends coming for dinner tonight - so need to clean and stuff - but have new copy of Junior Preg & Birth - which obviously takes priority

Have a great day everyone
