slight change from the one i had planned but figured we'll only truly be hard-boiled once we're overdue!

AngeG · 02/03/2007 18:10

Mammyjo I'm sure you've made a decision by now, but I would phone the mw if you're concerned. I have had a couple of times like that, have wondered if it could be waters, but because it hasn't carried on have always put it down to crappy pelvic floor muscles

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 02/03/2007 18:40

Evening all. Countdown to B's bath time! Thankfully she is being great and playing nicely without the need for me! Bad mummy. I am in the same room as her so don't feel too bad!!

Nutty, hope you get your Gaviscon hun.

1b3, what an incredible photo that was!

Mammyjo, hope you have resolved things. I think it was Octopussy who had a similar leakage a while back.

How is everyone else? I am knackered and still have a ruddy cold. I would sleep ok if it wasn't for the cold - find myself waking up as so stuffed up with it and with a mouth as dry as the Sahara dessert!

opinionsrus · 02/03/2007 18:49

Hi all. Sorry to intrude but having a last minute panic now, though I think I have got everything covered. Second/third time arounders only please (no offence to anyone of course)......

Can you please tell me your BEST and WORST ever first time around baby buy, just incase I have missed anything.

My worst and most useless ones were too many to mention but from what I can remember:

NAPPY BIN - TOTAL WASTE OF TIME

Ones I missed:

BABY CARRY/CHANGING BAG, REALLY NEEDED THIS!
BABY SWING
INFACOL
WIPES INSTEAD OF COTTON WOOL AND WATER (!)

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 02/03/2007 18:55

Opinionsrus, you are not intruding - you belong here!!

My best were

Steam steriliser
Linden Day and Night Feeder
Grobags

Worst

Cot mobile - no interst and just got in the way

Think that was about it.

Eddas · 02/03/2007 19:14

Opinions, agree with the ones you missed, why use cotton wool and water, what a waste of time!!

Didn't buy a nappy bin i'd imagine it's only needed with real nappies?

Should have bought a sleeping bag straight away, only got 6months+ one.

Would have not bought a baby bath and am intending to buy a bath support this time.

Would buy a pram not a travel system.

Would buy a swinging crib not a moses basket.

Think that's about it

octopussyintummy · 02/03/2007 19:33

Evening all!

Feeling a bit tipsy after 2 glasses of wine

Have been to Marlborough to view photoshoot thing - so many gorgeous photos of boys - so little money! Decided to go with one of ds2 and the freebie - so didn't spend anything - rare for me!

BUT .... went to my local nursery shop on way home and bought a cabriofix car seat with isofix base, cosytoes, doomoo (whatever its called - bf cushion), raincover for carrycot, cotton wool and earplugs! Oooh a good £300 DH not particularly happy - mainly with car seat as we have one already - but it was second hand from a friend and felt really unsettled about it - so just went for it Told him it could be worse - could have bought the whole quinny system - said he would make me take it back if did! He can't really put up much of argument about car safety - no legs to stand on. But is accutely unaware that car seat cost me £175!

1B3 - that photo was amazing - have saved it! I think it is very sad that you don't see your friends now pg with twins - god, if you ever needed help and support - now is the time - maybe give them a call and see if you can get them round for a cup of tea or go out for a meal.

OMG - have just seen Fairyoke wings advert - so glad have boys!

Best buys:

Bath support thingy
Cloth nappies
lambskin
grobag

Worst buys:

Gripe water - how on earth you get in in them I have no idea!
Monitor
Flushable baby wipes

I use washable baby wipes - so have some cotton wool for hosp then will wash wipes with nappies - have a strong dislike of baby wipes and particularly nappy sacks! Flushable baby wipes block my drains.

Things have bought this time which didn't have last time:
Carrycot
Ellaroo sling
Huggababy sling
4 grobags instead of one!
baby gowns
washable breast pads

octopussyintummy · 02/03/2007 19:50

You've all gone to the pub and left me at home - hummmmppphhhh

1becomes3 · 02/03/2007 20:22

I wish that was a picture of my tummy, unfortunatly there are a few hundred strech marks missing off that one, so it couldn't possibly be mine.

Mammyjo-sorry don't have any new adivce for you apart from contact MW.

opinions-dinky nail clippers are a must, I have to buy some more as I lost DD's ones.
I thought that infacol was great, DD had terrible colic and infacol really help her.
Each to their own I suppose.
Can't really think of anything else, I have brought two swaddleing blankets made by the people who make grow bags, not sure if they are going to be any good but thought I would give them a go.

Another bump related question here, the top of my bump under my boobs feels really irritated and hot, may just be because my bra is too tight not sure.

octopussyintummy · 02/03/2007 20:46

Probably just heat - get some air to the area - lift your boobs up - headstand . WOuld get it checked out if continues

Off to have another dh dinner and watch dupree film thingy on sky

Catch up tomorrow xoxoxoxox

WestCountryLass · 02/03/2007 20:52

Best Buys:

Lansinoh nipple cream, heaven in a tube!
Car seat with base, did not have to do the seat belt every time.

Worst Buys:
Moses basket/Cot, ended up co-sleeping
Cot mobile
Baby bath, have bath support for when sharing with DB/DS but usually get in with baby.

muminabigtumi · 02/03/2007 21:17

Eddas - I HATE YOU!!!!

I am so very of the Take That tickets...

Re Darts - I like Barnie better than Taylor, he seems a bit too arrogant at times for my liking!
x

Eddas · 02/03/2007 21:19

That's not nice!!!!

I think Taylor is the best player but Manley makes me chuckle. Not overkeen on Lewis, seems a bit cocky

Eddas · 02/03/2007 21:24

MIABT, they seem to have some still available for some venues/dates on www.ticketline.co.uk so you could give it a go

muminabigtumi · 02/03/2007 21:31

Hi everyone

Another busy day in MIABT land! Lots of soft play shennanigans with my friend and her boys - v tired but nice feeling when you know DS goes to bed v tired and happy!

Erm - just made sure I can text maveta in Spain! so thats sorted....as for good and bad buys last time round....

(WCL - glad re the Lansinoh as I nearly fainted when I paid £10 for a small tube of it today!!)

WORST
Ditto Nappy Bin
Ditto Monitors
Newborn size clothes as they lasted about 2 mins and everybody bought Newborn size when born - tip would be to ask rellies and friends to buy 0-3 and some 6-9 as you get that much at least you will get some wear out of them.
Breastpump - couldn't get the friggin thing to work for love nor money (AventHandheld)

BEST
Grobag
Bottle Warmer and Cool Bag (saved going down to get bottle and heat up in middle of night)

Can't think of anything else!
x

muminabigtumi · 02/03/2007 21:32

Thanks Eddas - I will have a look - I love you really! x

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 02/03/2007 21:36

There is life! I thought I was the only one around. Dh away this weekend so on my own - boo! Tho I am looking forward to having the bed to myself

I would ditto the hand breast pump - bloody useless. I managed about an ounce during the whole of an episode of Eastenders. That's when I turned to the bottle!

There is nothing on telly tonight unless I am missing some gem.

Eddas · 02/03/2007 21:51

1b3, i have the same problem but also have the same feeling on both sides. I tried sleeping on my back last night which really helped ease the itching as it seems to kick in when my sides get warmed up, nice!!

Said to dh this morning, right all i need to do now is find a way to sleep which isn't on my sides(so no itching), not on my tummy(no squashing!!) and not on my back(bump aches and not recommended), easy! He suggest I sleep like batman hanging by my feet from a bar, problem solved

What has eased it is calomine lotion so would recommend that plus trying to keep those bits cool. HTH

MIABT, i know you do, just jealous that i got tickets I should've got the maximum of 6 really and sold them on at face value on here(not on ebay like lots of gits are doing for a huge profit). Fingers crossed you can get some

muminabigtumi · 02/03/2007 21:51

Hi love!

I vividly remember when I managed to express about 1ml of breast milk to take to james in the NICU and that was using some industrial battery powered cow pump...I was never gonna be able to get anything out with a hand held I don't think!
I was so proud of my 1ml! The nurses must have thought Iwas mental but duly put it in a syringe for him lol!!!

Yep - naff all on telly...Phil watching Rugby League...cannot wait for Sky Plus to come on Tuesday as we are putting the old Sky box upstairs so at least I can watch what I want in bed .

I hate it when SH goes away - I never sleep properly as I'm always listening for every noise.

About to hit the hay I think - can barely keep eyes open - just spent the last half hour trying to downoad a bump pic from my camera and it just won't bloody well work - GRRRRRR

WestCountryLass · 02/03/2007 21:54

Lansinoh is expensive but worth it. When your nipples are raw and latching on feels like you've got your boobs in a vice and are exfoliating your nipples with sandpaper, it takes the edge off

Because DS was early and I had to express my milk to get the supply going, I did not buy an expresser first time round. I borrowed a hand held one with DD and the problem is every time you pump you lose contact and the suction/vacuum.

I would deffo recommend hiring an electric pump from NCT/local hospital or similar.

muminabigtumi · 02/03/2007 21:55

Eddas - all gone for Manchester or "Try again later" - boo hoo

Agree re the buggers selling them for mass profit on Ebay - annoying for people who really like them and want to go that that kind of person manages to get through and get the tickets only to sell them on like that. Am hopeful there may be bargains though - had the same when U2 came in 06 and Phil and I desperatley wanted to go - ended up getting really cheap tickets off Ebay alot nearer the time when the "hysteria" had died down a bit so here is hoping!

AngeG · 02/03/2007 21:56

Evening all

I have to say I used the Avent hand pump last time and it was great...having said that my milk leaked out all the time anyway.
Totally agree about grobags though they are fab.

I know this was discussed the other day, but I can't find where. I need some new nursing bras for this time, last time I used the M & S ones, but was told their 2 packs ones weren't really supportive enough for me, by one of their bra fitters

Anyone got any recommendations of which ones to get...I'm about a 34/36 d/dd.

Just thought if the consultant agrees I could have had my babe four weeks today.

34+5 today

WestCountryLass · 02/03/2007 21:58

Glad you said that about M & S bras as was going to go there tomorrow for nursing bras.

Both times before I have had Mothercare ones and they were like scaffolding

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 02/03/2007 21:59

Right, I am off to bed. Knackered!!

Sleep well lovely ladies, and see you in the morning. xx

AngeG · 02/03/2007 22:00

Thanks WCL - will try mothercare.

muminabigtumi · 02/03/2007 22:01

Tell you what was wierd though about expressing...when milk did come in a bit more I found that if I looked at a photo of James (cos he was not with me when I was on the ward expressing) then my milk flowed out alot faster...midwife said it was the emotional feeling I got looking at him which helped me "let down" or something - I thought that was pretty amazing really.

I only manged 6 weeks of breast feeding and I know it is not for everyone but I will NEVER forget the feeling of the first time I got to breastfeed James - I actually sat there crying my heart out with sheer relief and joy that I could finally hold him and do it - it was absolutley priceless (he was 5 days old by then and had been on IV feeds) I really hope I get to have skin to skin contact asap after birth this time and get a good start for breastfeeding.
