Congratulstions Gurtie and Vicki! Gurtie - our house won't be finished by May too but as long as it is liveable I think we're fine.

MrsJW15 · 08/02/2017 21:21

Wow, hard to catch up with you all today. I was measuring 26cm at my 25 week appointment, but I was 25+6 so they said that was fine. I'm worried about having a big baby as my husband is tall and I'm tiny - even average size will be big for me!

Spent the afternoon with a pool to ourselves and in a spa bath in our hotel room. Very relaxing!

MrsJW15 · 08/02/2017 21:33

Also - I have an anterior placenta but baby seems quite busy these days. Definitely gets into my ribs some times - other times my bladder. Feeling baby move is reassuring but also uncomfortable!

Badgerbird · 08/02/2017 21:33

Congrats on new house gurtie!

Does everyone get a GTT??

Thanks teaspoon :) just an interview for another agency though not an actual job yet unfortunately. Hoping they can find me some bits and bobs to tide me over. Nerve wracking Confused

sah love the pjs!

Your afternoon sounds fab jw! Make the most of it :)

CinnamonTwist · 08/02/2017 21:37

Those who have had previous DC, what size hospital bag did you use? I have a small hold-all (like this m.cotswoldoutdoor.com/mountain-equipment-wet-dry-kit-bag-40l-e2314085?id_colour=4557) I am wondering if it is too big? Don't really want to be having to buy another bag specially though when we're a bit stretched financially at the moment anyway, and I'd rather spend it on the house or the baby!

ginandcake · 08/02/2017 21:47

I had two bags - one small hold-all with things for the labour, a couple of nappies and babies first outfit. I then had another bag with the rest of the things for the baby which we left in the car for after delivery. My main bag was bought from Primary, you don't need to spend a fortune on one.

EsmesBees · 08/02/2017 21:59

In retrospect, I took too much stuff, but it was in a medium sized suitcase on wheels. It's tricky as everyone gives you different advice about what you need to bring. My NCT leader recommended photos of home and scented candles!! I shall be going with the bare minimum this time.

MrsJW15 · 08/02/2017 22:08

Photos of home Esmes!!

EsmesBees · 08/02/2017 22:12

Yep! To make you feel more at home whilst in hospital. She also made far more practical suggestions like take your own pillow.

One thing I wouldn't do this time is take my slippers. The last time they got ruined.

beanandturnip · 08/02/2017 22:54

I'm planning a homebirth for this baby so not planning on packing a hospital bag. But I will be packing a box with the essentials in.

I planned a hb for our daughter (baby 2) and ended up in hospital to be induced as baby decided she didn't want to make an appearance. My must have for hospital is 2 towels. When baby is born they wrap in a towel and I wanted them to be wrapped in a towel from home that smelt like home instead of a nhs one. 😊
I also took them home and boil washed them because they get yucky but use them when out on walks etc now.

Sah1987 · 08/02/2017 23:17

Cinnamon I took a huge bag - put loads in it that I didn't need plus didn't separate baby stuff so kept having to repackage it!

My advice take a smaller bag with baby stuff to put inside, and take flip flops for the shower

Though I'm pinching the towel idea!!

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 08/02/2017 23:29

Wow what a lovely long read! Thanks for new thread and witty name you're quite the duo Rasperry and Adventure!

Thanks also for the birth stories, really interesting and uplifting. Going now as have just woken DP up typing and he's knackered as replacing our bathroom this week oooopppps.

RasperryInAMelon · 09/02/2017 01:07

Badger good question... I've not been told I need a GTT - should I??...

Jugoo28 · 09/02/2017 05:06

Everyone has the GTT here, I have to have it two days before my 28 week appointment with my midwife. Also need to book in for my whooping cough vaccination. I hate needles :(

lullaby23 · 09/02/2017 05:32

Lullaby- I didn't even have a sniff of heartburn!
That's why I think some of the wives tales interest me!
The 'wedding ring' test also told me multiple times I was having a boy! Grin

And I'm very disappointed that boohoo only do those unicorn pjs for non-fat people! Grin
May have to browse eBay now!

teainbed · 09/02/2017 06:40

Raspberry only if you had glucose in your urine or raised blood glucose, or you're in a high risk group for diabetes.

Brightsmoke · 09/02/2017 06:42

Planning on packing a hospital bag about 30 weeks, I'd much rather be prepared too early!! I have a list of things to pack, but if anyone fancies adding to it or saying something won't be needed, I'd appreciate it :)

For baby:
Nappies
Baby wipes
Sudacream
Outfits in size new born, 0-1 month and 0-3 months
Car seat
Blankets
Going home outfit

For me:
Hospital notes/birth plan
Dressing gown (gonna buy a cheap one I don't mind getting ruined)
PJs
Slippers/thick slipper socks
Flip flops
Toiletries
Breast pads
Big pants
Maternity pads
Snacks and drinks
Tea bags, milk and biscuits
Tens machine
Phone and charger/book
Going home clothes

lullaby23 · 09/02/2017 06:52

Awesome hair sleeping! I haven't tried the wedding ring test, how does that work? I did the Chinese gender prediction and it said girl which was wrong (total bollocks of course but fun!)

If anyone prefers dinosaurs rather than unicorns

EsmesBees · 09/02/2017 06:59

bright also take a small jug to make the first wee a bit easier. I took the one that came with the iron. Also, one of those soft feeding bras for night time.

EsmesBees · 09/02/2017 07:00

Oh- and something to give birth in. That you don't mind throwing away.

EsmesBees · 09/02/2017 07:01

Lullaby you lie on your back, put your ring on a piece of cotton and hold it over the bump. If it goes in a circle, it's a girl, if a straight line, boy. Apparently.

WishIWasSleeping · 09/02/2017 07:03

Thanks!
Dinosaurs too! My day is complete!
Put your wedding ring (or any ring you wear a lot) on a gold chain wait for it to settle and then hold up with the ring dangling a couple of cm above your tummy. Keep very still! Apparently if the ring moves in circles it's a girl and lines it's a boy. We even tested it over my own and hubbys hearts (they were right!) maybe my rascal princess will be a tomboy! GrinGrin
Bright - I highly doubt you will need slippers and a dressing gown. Hospitals are roasting, and everyone else walks around in pjs so it's kind of normal! Def make sure it's only a very thin one if you take one! x

teainbed · 09/02/2017 07:13

Definitely get some carrier bags or ziplock ones to section some stuff off in your hospital bag. Especially one for the first shower or bath, put clean clothes in, a pad, knickers, mini toiletries so you can just grab it and take to the bathroom. One for night is good too, with nappies, wipes, change of babygro etc.
