28 week scan all went well. Measurements all within normal range but smaller than the average. Predicted 7lb4 ish.

PowerofThree · 16/02/2017 16:36

Thank you for the book suggestions! I managed to track down some of the high contrast cloth books, a couple of board book and touch type books and some of the classics (tiger who came to tea, hungry caterpillar etc) in traditional format. Sadly I have now burnt through my gift vouchers so may have to be more restrained in the future...

MissMooMoo · 16/02/2017 16:40

rise I asked my midwife if I should fast and she said no. Hmmm
I may do some googling to be sure, and go first thing in the morning next Friday when I have my day off.

FoxMulder · 16/02/2017 16:43

Good news on the scan Adventure! What was the reason for a 28wk scan?

savagehk · 16/02/2017 16:45

I wasn't told to fast for my 28w bloods, but I'm not having a GTT or anything either.

1004Rise · 16/02/2017 16:53

Miss, Savage I think if you needed to she would have told** you because I'm seeing a different midwife so I could go first thing in the morning. I don't think it's a GTT because they never said anything about lucozade or coming back...

It might me a NHS Scotland vs NHS England way of working thing.....

Good news on the 28 week scan adventure 7lb 4 is a good weight Smile

1004Rise · 16/02/2017 16:54

Oooops bold fail Blush

savagehk · 16/02/2017 16:57

www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg62/ifp/chapter/screening-and-tests#blood-tests suggests it's anaemia and (if you're negative) rhesus related. Still no idea on the fasting, do let us know Smile

lucieloos · 16/02/2017 16:57

They test for iron levels at 28 weeks but also double check the Rhesus factor. You don't need to fast unless you are having the gtt.

yellowismyfavourite · 16/02/2017 16:58

cinnamon hope you can get hold of your midwife to ask. I forgot to ask what they were looking for when they did mine... iron levels is one I think

Just had my growth scan. Baby measuring normal... just above 50th centile and current estimated weight of 3 lb 3 oz. We got to see it blinking and have a lovely picture where it looks like it's looking right at us.

yellowismyfavourite · 16/02/2017 17:00

adventure glad your scan went well too

Adventuregame · 16/02/2017 17:09

Fox the extra scan is because I have MS - very mild (I like to say benign) !

RasperryInAMelon · 16/02/2017 17:21

Cinnamon my MW has already told me she'll be doing bloods at my 28week appointment (when I'll actually be 29)...

Unlike Rise I haven't been told it's fasted though.

Why are people having growth scans? Nothing else offered here after 20 weeks unless you have placenta previa

MrsJW15 · 16/02/2017 17:39

I have my 28 week appointment on Monday and I'm pretty sure I haven't been told anything about fasting. So I'm assuming I don't have to!

My hands are still swollen and quite tingly, so I guess I need to pick that up with the midwife. I generally have fairly low blood pressure, so maybe it's just that my office is quite warm.

I've been wearing a new pair of mat tights from JoJo today and they are terrible! They fall from above to the below my bump in the one minute it takes me to walk from my desk to the loo. Angry

jennymac31 · 16/02/2017 17:42

Evening ladies

Feeling knackered after being back at work for the last couple of days following Portugal holiday. Baby boy is wriggling more but I'm starting to experience tightenings, cramps and general uncomfortableness. Am gonna see how things go before deciding whether to ring midwife. I've got my consultant's appointment on Wednesday but don't want to wait until then.

Got my GTT test on Monday and I picked up the glucose drink on prescription yesterday (supposedly my surgery is one of the odd ones where I'm not given the drink on the day so have to order it advance).

Also got my first hydrotherapy session next Thursday, which I am looking forward to.

coxsorangepippin · 16/02/2017 17:53

Hello you chatty lot!
Had my 28 week mw appointment today (but earlier than 28 weeks, whatevs) which went fine, I find it amazing how they can tell what position baby is lying in just by feeling!
Fundal height at least a cm above the top line (90th percentile) so measuring about two weeks ahead but the mw didn't seem worried - she said it was more about how steep the curve is at subsequent measurements.

teainbed · 16/02/2017 17:58

MrsJW are they the 60 or the 100 denier ones? I've got both and the 60 ones stay up the 100 denier ones are useless and fall down really easily. Still, not long to go, won't be in them for long!

Just got home from half term break in the big smoke. I was pleasantly surprised at being offered seats in the tube frequently despite not having the bump on board badge. One woman even apologised when she got off saying she didn't realise I was pregnant! I didn't like the crowds, I don't think when you're wrapped up in winter things it's as obvious clearly. Hope all you commuting ladies haven't got long left for travel.

peasandquiet · 16/02/2017 18:03

Rasberry, the fasted gestational diabetes test is offered if you are at risk for it (family history) or have BMI over 30 and is usually done alongside the 28wk bloods (I guess for convenience?) not sure what else the blood tests are looking for.
Extra scans can be for a whole range of reasons/conditions. Personally it's a hormone issue that is affecting blood flow to my uterus, no problem at the moment but close monitoring incase it becomes an issue for growth of the baby.
Mrs JW i'm still struggling on in standard tights, they are so uncomfortable!! Are all mat tights over the bump? I'm not enjoying the clingyness of over the bump jeans and under fall down!
Has anyone bought a bedside crib other than a next to me or a snuzpod?
I want a snuzpod and am hoping to get one at the baby show but wondered if there were any other co sleepers under £200 worth looking at.

PeachIcedT · 16/02/2017 18:22

I sympathise MrsJW, my tights from mothercare fall down so readily, I am constantly fiddling to pull them up and my vest down whilst apologising for doing so to my colleagues. And that's after initially wasting £15 as I bought my usual size which isn't my maternity size. It's expensive trying to be comfortable!

Cox I agree it's fascinating they can tell the position by feeling (not that I've had that appointment yet) but prior to being pregnant I presumed that was determined by a scan.

EsmesBees · 16/02/2017 18:40

peas we are renting a bednest for £90. Had one the first time, and liked it, plus it's the only crib tall enough for our bed.

coxsorangepippin · 16/02/2017 18:47

peas they do all seem to be over-bump but I have been wearing over-bump ones as under-bump and they don't fall down too much. Leggings even comfier, but no good for work!

peasandquiet · 16/02/2017 18:55

Will have a look esme - thanks. Also a reminder to check the height of our bed before picking one so double thanks.
I'm worried I'll find mat leggings clingy like the fabric part of over the bump jeans. I lasted to full term in normal topshop leggings and a long vest last time but not sure I will this time!

ClaireSunflower · 16/02/2017 19:11

I quite like the mothercare tights I've got, although if anything they are a little on the tight side but definitely don't fall down. I much prefer wearing leggings though, so much more comfortable!

FoxMulder · 16/02/2017 19:48

I had an extra growth scan with DS because my bump was measuring small. Apparently quite common with tall women. Will have to see how it goes with this one

peas we made our own bedside crib out of a regular one last time!

BouncingBlueberry · 16/02/2017 19:56

Topshop 120denier maternity tights are fab. Honestly I can't rave about them enough. Over the bump but stay put and nice and dark too. I may have several pairs.
