barnes I get pains like that sometimes too...
raspberry that sounds amazing... maybe something I should look into!
DM came up today and we did loads of shopping... think we are nearly organised now. It's so difficult buying clothes though when you don't know the gender... lots of pink and blue everywhere but not much in between!

Autumnsweater · 15/02/2017 22:50

Rise Grin mission accomplished!

ShiniBerry · 15/02/2017 22:55

Has anyone experienced really painful Braxton Hicks? Last night I had a bit of what felt like period pain when going to bed and then in the middle of the night my whole tummy and back started hurting. It started mild and started getting worse and was increasing and decreasing in intensity. Apparently I was groaning so much it woke DH up. I tried walking around and drinking water and finally lay back down and it subsided in a few hours. I called my midwife who said as the pain had stopped I shouldn't worry, but if it happened again to come in. I've been since reading up about painful BH and am truly worried out they might have been real contractions which just stopped and can apparently change the cervix, and cause baby to come early. I did have a super busy day at work yesterday, lots of being on my feet and going up and down stairs, so I'm hoping it was just that I over did it. Trying not to stress but I'm a bit freaked out :-/

beanandturnip · 15/02/2017 23:05

barnes I have had lots of abdo pain this time round. I mentioned to my midwife and she said it's normal. I also get "fanny daggers" the only way I can explain is as though a dagger is being pushed through my cervix downwards and outwards. They hurt and I've had them with all 3 of my pregnancies 😭 Again it's apparently normal.

I have my GTT test tomorrow. Feeling a little nervous.

I have also had meeting with occ health today following my pneumonia and been told I shouldn't be in work. I have a meeting with my manager tomorrow to see what we do now. I am a workaholic and staying at home doesn't come natural to me.

Ahh all you ladies being super organised, we literally have a pram on order and 4 baby grows. Hoping to get kitted out at baby show in Manchester and then anything left over will be down in April. Last minute.

beanandturnip · 15/02/2017 23:09

shini if you are worried you should call the midwives again.

However, with my second pregnancy I had a bleed and on examination they realised my cervix had opened by 2cm and so decided to stitch them shut (this was at 19wks) ; this time I have had a couple of instances where I have had tightenings (feels like someone is holding your insides)with no pain or very mild period type aches. Gone to be checked at triage as with my second I had no pains at all, luckily so far so good with Spud.

But if you are worried trust your instinct and go get checked. 😊

EsmesBees · 16/02/2017 06:48

I've not had this Shini but agree with Bean, if you are worried about the intensity of the pain then pop in to triarge and get checked out. Sounds horrible for you.

MissMooMoo · 16/02/2017 08:26

Speaking of large babies my sister had her first yesterday.
She was 41 weeks and booked for induction on Friday but a growth scan estimated the baby to be nearing 11 lbs! She had a c section in the end and he was just under 10 but has a huge head and shoulders and was wedged in,they had to use foreceps. She isn't "big" she is 5'7 and her partner 5'11 and she lost nearly 20 lbs throughout her pregnancy so I've no idea how she grew such a large baby that wouldn't fit!!

1004Rise · 16/02/2017 08:38

Miss congratulations to your sister and to you on becoming an auntie! Flowers Do they live close? It will be nice to have cousins so close in age Smile

Gulp at the size and the stuck! Confused

Badgerbird · 16/02/2017 08:39

sah I hope you have a much better day today at work :)

shini I can see why you'd worry, how was last night? Def call triage if worried.

miss congrats on your sis baby!!

rustler sorry didn't get back to your message yet, I use the app on my phone and not sure how to do it!

MissMooMoo · 16/02/2017 08:47

Thanks guys Smile she lives In southeast Canada and I am in London so not closeby at all but hoping to have them meet in October time.

shini if you are at all concerned go to the MAU!

yellowismyfavourite · 16/02/2017 08:47

adventure good luck with your scan today and bean hope the GMT goes ok. Congratulations on your sisters baby miss although the size sounds scary! hope everything settles down shini and that everything is ok.

I have a growth scan this afternoon. Feeling nervous and excited. It's going to be a long day... it's not til 3.30!

yellowismyfavourite · 16/02/2017 08:49

GTT not GMT!

PowerofThree · 16/02/2017 09:07

Good luck to everyone with scans or tests today.

I am hopefully off shopping for the start of a baby and toddler library today (I adore books so this by far the shopping I am most excited about!). However, I've not really had much contact with babies and young children so don't know if there are any books that are particularly good - I don't suppose anyone has any recommendations?

Rustler74 · 16/02/2017 09:23

Wow Miss, that size must have been scary! What size clothes would the baby fit?
Badgerbird don't worry, I use my web browser to look at messages as I don't think they appear on my app either.
Booked trip to see my parents in 3 weeks and looking forward to it! Eurostar was gentle although I wish we'd booked 2 days ago as yesterday the prices had gone up by £20!

Esmes I'd imagine that your busy day had something to do with it, but I wouldn't stay so calm under it. I'd call triage for sure. Still in bed and ready for paracetamol for my back. I'm thinking a swim would do me well, but I'd best save my energy as we're off tonight to see Henning Wehn, the German comedian. So if I go, it'll be a short one and perhaps keep my head above the water so I don't have to style my hair again!

Oh I love all your bump pictures! Don't forget to keep us informed! I may put another one on as I've grown again! Might get one with bathing suit, so you can see the sheer size of bump.

Badgerbird · 16/02/2017 09:25

This is a lovely 15 minute prenatal morning yoga flow sequence for all the yoga fans :)

savagehk · 16/02/2017 10:00

power for babies, having a book that is nigh-on-indestructible is a must. Look at the quality of the cardboard. We have some French books which are 'proper' books but have plastic pages (only way I can think of to describe it!) which are fabulous but I've not seen it in an English book.

A classics is of course The Very Hungry Caterpillar (board one). With holes for sticking fingers into. Babies will like textures, hence the popularity of the 'that's not my' books. Given that reading them is boring as anything we avoided them as far as possible! Spot is another good one and almost everyone I know has a Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell but the flaps are a bit delicate for a book ripper (as your baby will probably be at first)

Slw89 · 16/02/2017 10:21

Powerofthree - black and white contrast books are good for babies like this 1 www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1509807055/ref=pd_aw_sbs_14_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=323XZ5FK5CQDYB9FFJ9N&dpPl=1&dpID=81-livzXCdL&tag=mumsnetforum-21
also my dcs used to (and still do) love 2 books called nosey norman and wendy the wide mouth frog.

EsmesBees · 16/02/2017 12:50

power you can get cloth books for very young babies which have different sounds and textures. They were a hit with mine from when she started grabbing. I remember hanging one off the side of the jumperoo. One of the first proper books I remember her enjoying was Each Peach Pear Plum.

Savage I must be one of the very few toddler owning households that doesn't have a copy of Dear Zoo. I can't bear it, the child gets all these animals through the post and isn't at all grateful!

Rustler74 · 16/02/2017 13:00

EsmesBees I so agree re the Zoo!
The texture books of the series 'That's not my...' are really good.
Get yourself onto Bookstart which is a project via the Surestart centres.
A lot of the time kids like to grab the same book or story over and over again.
I have the Flemish version of 'Guess how much I love you' and that will do well. It will be part of my bilingual upbringing to have Flemish books but I'll start with the texture books for sure.

savagehk · 16/02/2017 13:07

We were given Dear Zoo :)

teainbed · 16/02/2017 13:14

The first Spot the Dog book is really good, essential almost. Think we've been through 2 copies in our house!

CinnamonTwist · 16/02/2017 15:08

Blimey you guys are so chatty, only missed a few days and it's going to take me a while to catch up!

Anyone else had their 28week blood test yet? I had mine earlier this week and just had a call from the doctors to say they need to repeat it in 2 weeks. Receptionist couldn't tell me why though Confused I managed to book it for next Friday (the earliest I was allowed) and I'm going to try to find out a bit more about why it's required from my midwife, otherwise I'm going to be worrying like crazy!

Hope everyone else is ok?

savagehk · 16/02/2017 15:09

I had blood at c. 28w (I'm a bit out with my appts) - I think it was just for iron levels.

MissMooMoo · 16/02/2017 16:07

Mine gave me a paper to have bloods drawn at around 28 weeks.
My 28 week appt is at 29+3 so will go have it done the week before. Its at a walk in clinic.
What do they test for?

1004Rise · 16/02/2017 16:23

My 28 week blood test is part of my midwife appointment, this is the one I've been told to fast for so I'm guessing there's something to do with blood sugar....
