Welcome and congratulations claire Smile

Forgot to say (can't remember who asked) the workout DVD I use is Erin O Brien. Thanks for you tube workout recommendation will check that out.

1004Rise · 05/02/2017 14:11

Welcome Claire!

Has anyone been swimming, I need to do some sort of exercise, bike is too hard and walking with the dogs is ok but it's hardly exercise. Quite like the idea of feeling less heavy by swimming.... Feeling strangely confused by swimsuits though - does anyone have suggestions?

PeachIcedT · 05/02/2017 14:31

Hello to Claire!

Yes 1004Rise I went this morning (and still stink of chlorine). I just take it easy and stop after each length. Managed a 1k swim - I bought a maternity swimming costume from mothercare and it still has some expansion room. I think it was £15 in the sale. I forget I'm pregnant once I'm swimming (except for my fitness level but then I've not swam much in the last few years). The other thing is I avoid lane swimming as I don't like feeling pressurised so time it to go when there is casual 'family' swimming sections and just avoid the crowds at the shallow end.

peasandquiet · 05/02/2017 14:32

I went to see a GP this week about my hip pain, I asked about tens and she said it was fine, I was surprised too but she looked at me like I was mad when I asked if it was safe. I'm not using it on my back or tummy it's on my hip/arse so pretty far away from the baby.
What does the GP's amongst us think? It is in the list of treatments for SPD on the NHS website also fwiw.

1004Rise · 05/02/2017 14:42

Peach forgetting you're pregnant sounds like what I need, I also haven't been swimming in ages so will probably be useless. Will try and convince DH to come with me although he was a county swimmer as a teenager and annoyingly seems to be able to just knock out several hundred meters without thinking about it even when he hasn't been in the water for years so maybe less of a good plan Hmm

Will look at mothercare, sale price sounds like a plan Wink

mrspage1985 · 05/02/2017 14:48

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of Egg pushchair range? They seem to be out of stock of most of the colours we like and it would seem they are therefore discontinuing the current colours ready for a new range. We have one of our preferred colours tracked down and reserved which we have to get tomorrow or lose it - it's the last one in that colour in the area. But wondering if there is a new range of colours coming out is it worth holding on for a new range of colours?! Xx

ClaireSunflower · 05/02/2017 14:49

I've thought about swimming too but need a new swimming costume. I dread to think what I'd look like if i squeezed myself into my non maternity one! I've been doing pregnancy yoga at a class nearby every Saturday and I love that, although it's more for relaxation and flexibility than exercise.

yellowismyfavourite · 05/02/2017 15:37

Hope everyone is soon feeling better...
I have a swimsuit from mothercare and it's good. Am finding it really difficult to exercise though because it makes the PGP so bad... have had to stop pregnancy yoga and if I walk any distance without a break even with the band on it really hurts. Swimming was ok but I used my arms more and only did gentle kicking. It's frustrating as I have put on 1.5 stone already... my sister is getting married in September so I want to be back in shape before then!

EsmesBees · 05/02/2017 16:05

Same here yellow my sister is getting married in October and would prefer not to look too whale like. I really struggled to loose weight until I stopped bfeeding last time. But then I did use it as an excuse to stuff my face (it made me incredibly hungry). Need to be more careful this time.

Spam88 · 05/02/2017 16:12

Yellow I've had to stop pregnancy yoga as well, it was definitely making my PGP worse :( thinking I'll get myself a DVD though and I can take it a bit easier at home and skip out any moves that I don't think I should be doing a bit more easily than in a class.

With regard to tens, if I remember correctly, I think the physio said that they can induce labour, so they don't recommend them until you're full term i.e. 37 weeks. They did have them available to hire from the hospital though for a small fee, so those of you who are thinking of getting one it might be an idea to see if they're available from your hospital?

Just got back from my nephew's first birthday party and oh my word I'm exhausted. And pretty much all I did was sit down and eat cake.

I hope all those of you who are feeling poorly feel better soon!

MissMooMoo · 05/02/2017 16:14

I also have a swimming costume from mothercare, a 2 piece one, very comfortable and lots of growing room.

I went to pregnancy pilates yesterday which was great! I felt so relaxed afterwards. Today DH and I went to columbia road flower market and brick lane and now I am in agony. I think I must have used some muscles at pilates that I haven't used in about 25 weeks! Having a hot bath to try and relax and will have an early night.

growcookeat · 05/02/2017 16:28

Newbie I'm like you - have suddenly noticed a huge growth in my bump size, and i thought it was pretty big already! Someone at work this week asked me if I was looking forward to leaving at the end of the month - they were in hysterics when I explained I was only 27 weeks and wouldn't be leaving until April! Blush

1004rise I got a maternity swimsuit from George at Asda which fits really well. They had a good mix of sporty ones (for pool swimming) and beach type ones for holiday. Haven't worn it much so can't comment on how long lasting it will be but might be worth a look.

Rustler74 · 05/02/2017 16:49

Just came home from some food shopping with my OH who is still feeling under the weather and thought 'ah I must ask the ladies this' when I came home to a whole list of new messages on the thread!
I bought my maternity swimsuit from Decathlon and although only used once I thought it felt really nice and the price was reasonable at £14.00
I would need to go again or suspend membership as it's costing me money for not using the gym or pool at all. Frankly I could do with a swim as the weightless feeling would come in handy! I gained nearly 7 kg now which I think is less than I had expected to gain. My sister was really big at 6 months and gained a fair bit more after that. She had PGP as well and needed a special pelvic belt. We are all rather hypermobile, including my mum so I think it's a question of time for me to get it.

Welcome Claire!
Regards to the Tens machines, I'd be very surprised if they could induce labour. I'm not keen to have one, although it could still the pain. I really dislike the feeling of the current through my body.

My question was re prams new versus used (eBay) I've been watching the prams being sold and some have gone for over £300 still, which I find a lot of money for a used item for which I'd still need to buy some replacement items to maintain hygiene (carrycot mattress etc) what are your thoughts? We are not so likely to get a new one as a present although with a bit of luck we may get some JL vouchers. My family is abroad and Ed's family have not been doing gifts for births much at all.
Omg what a rant it looks like again !

vanilla8 · 05/02/2017 17:06

Hi everyone,

Another latecomer here, although I have been watching this thread for a while it's the first time I've managed to download the app and post Smile

Due 24th May and team blue.

Have just managed to secure a cosleeper cot on eBay, it was abit difficult to find one that actually could reach the height of our mattress!

We have decided on the Uppababy Vista pram, however it appears Brexit and the £ value means they have put the price up to £899 now in most places. Hoping to bag a discounted 2015 version around March/April when they release the 2017 version.

I had been suffering really bad heartburn & went to the GP a week ago and prescribed Omeprazole - it has been great - I find I am sleeping better since taking it too!

PeachIcedT · 05/02/2017 19:02

Rustler I have been looking at lots of second hand prams too (though as it is think I will keep my new one for £200). I would say buying off Facebook gets you a better price than eBay generally, might be worth checking that out? I think dependent on all the accessories that come with the pram £300 could be reasonable, if it's a make you really like, but I think some cheaper brands seem to be pretty good too - I have read A LOT of reviews on madeformums.com which I find very balanced. I got overwhelmed by choice and found it helped.

Hi and welcome vanilla, I think good move on getting the discounted version when the new one is out, the older one will still be great.

yellowismyfavourite · 05/02/2017 19:13

Hi vanilla and claire
spam which dvd are you planning to get?
Feeling a bit upset tonight. My DH has been working today so I did the weekly shop as I have the car in the week. He came in from work and said I was lazy because I went to tesco instead of ldl because it's closer. Then I got to cook dinner and now he has gone out leaving me with the washing up! Usually I don't mind especially when he is working but that comment has really upset me. He has since apologised but still!! I don't normally get upset by stuff like this... must be pregnancy hormones and the thought of a stressful week ahead mixed in!

EsmesBees · 05/02/2017 19:33

rustler I've bought a second hand Phil and Ted's which was £75 all in. I've put all the covers through the washing machine, including the newborn cacoon thing. I got it off my local mums FB page, which, as peach says, tends to be cheaper. Some prams have more longevity than others, it's not worth spending £300 on something you'll use for 6 months, but I've used my uppababy Cruz everyday for 23 months so reckon it was worth the expense.

Welcome vanilla, the 2015 version is great. Can't believe how expensive they've got.

Sah1987 · 05/02/2017 20:13

Yellow that sort of thing gets me too, my other half does thus a lot. I asked him to wash & dress my Lg for bed whilst I washed up & made dinner. He washed her hair - got her to dress herself then sent her into me to have nails cut & painted and hair brushed.

I washed up all the dishes from yest & today and made him "Super Bowl" dinner.
I'm now laying with our LG whilst he drinks beer in living room.

Apparently he's got man flu! I do think it's hormones, however he's booked a days holiday tomorrow as he'll be up til 5am, I'm off sick.

I'm a moany moo!!! Sorry ladies x

ginandcake · 05/02/2017 20:28

Have had a quick look and think TENS should be fine unless you have a risk of early delivery, miscarriage etc. If your GP says its fine then you should be ok. I know it was really useful in labour with my first, I broke it an hour in to my second labour by smashing it on the floor! Blush

I took DD2 swimming yesterday, I know that's not really exercise but being weightless was so nice. Do need to get a maternity swimsuit though, was busting out of my prenatal one!

I am exhausted this evening, have spent the whole day stripping woodchip off walls and ceilings. I ache more than was already. And the car is broken so can't go to my Daisy birthing class. Feeling a little fed up this evening! Sad

WishIWasSleeping · 05/02/2017 21:34

I loved swimming in my first pregnancy. I was late to pop with the tummy so found I didn't need a maternity suit (absolutely no chance of fitting in my regular one this time)
Ladies be aware of your reduced lung capacity, and you'll need water by the side of the pool to drink. Take it slow for at least the first couple of times, even if this makes it seem like you're not doing much. Don't be powering out laps unless you've been doing it regularly for the last 10 years! Grin
I enjoy swimming but could never do for long periods. Totally agree with staying out of lane swimming. That's stressful!

MrsJW15 · 05/02/2017 21:39

I've been swimming a few times - it's lovely but definitely had to slow down. I was initially in a swimming costume one size up (to fit my boobs!) but now have a maternity tankini as bump is getting bigger. I've been advised not to do breaststroke legs now so I think my strokes must look quite funny.

PeachIcedT · 05/02/2017 21:53

I'm right there with you mrsJW I've been avoiding breast stroke legs and instead stick both legs together and wiggle like a dolphin fish - I'm sure it looks very odd but it's good exercise!

Makes sense about reduced lung capacity, I definitely found I have to come to the surface for air far more frequently than before.

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 05/02/2017 22:02

Welcome Claire and Vanilla, wishing speedy recoveries to poorly ladies and sending hugs to those of you a bit down in the dumps.

Funnily enough Rise I tried on a swimming costume this morning, an old one I bought when I lived in China years ago so it's fairly reserved in cut and a bit bigger than what I would have bought here. It fit but had gone a bit see through in several places Hmm. My dream is that DPs employers, who have a swimming pool in their house, offer that I can use theirs - imagine a pool all to yourself...

I am one of the people who went for the second hand but still quite a lot of money pram (and Snuzpod) options. I agree Rustler it's a big gamble, we spent nearly £400 including delivery on a Joolz Day but it would have been over £1000 new and neither the pram cot or Snuzpod mattresses have been used. The condition of both items is better than I could have ever hoped too so we have been lucky.

Inspired by pictures of people being super - rasperry! - organised (we are currently replacing bathroom so nursery has to wait) I did get this lot off the spare bed today... The only thing we've bought ourselves is the fox babygrow set you might be able to see in the 3-6 month box! I seem to have been blessed with friends also having boys just before me Wink

Badgerbird · 05/02/2017 22:11

yellow I've got the Tara lee pregnancy yoga DVD, it's nice, no sun salutations though :( Also I would not be impressed if my DH called me lazy tbh! Hope you ok now.

Well done on the wood chip stripping gin!! I've done lots of that and it's a great upper body workout!

My brain is going crazy looking at mountain buggies on eBay. I'll try the Facebook sale pages again I just find you have to scroll through soooooo much stuff to find a buggy. I'm guessing there are buggy only sales pages rather than local General baby sales stuff? Still learning Confused

Rustler74 · 05/02/2017 22:20

Yellow that was so unfair of your husband to say! I'm lucky that OH still does a lot, even now withbeing a tad unwell. I must say he does get up my nerves when he tries to get me going a bit quicker than what I'm moving but hey it could be a lot worse!
Thanks for all the tips! Just had a look on mothercare website and although not great readability on my tablet, the reviews of the own brand prams look rather good. I'm gonna have a look in the one in Harlow tomorrow as the one I've seen was only £299, which is cheaper than some of the second hand ones on eBay.
I'll have a look at the swimming on Tuesday then.
